This week on the program, Alex from Portland talks about his Pavement Origin story with jD before they gab about song 34!Transcript: Track 1[1:00] It's Half a Canyon. Ryan, from Soundtrack Your Life, what are your initial thoughts about this song? It's a great song. I really like this song. For some reason, for a long time, I thought this was the last song on Wowie Zowie. It kind of has that epic, you know? Yeah, it has that epic finale, you know, with how it ends and just this big jam of chaos.Hey, this is Westy from the Rock.Track 3[1:33] Roll Band, Pavement, and you're listening to The Countdown.Hey, it's JD here, back for another episode of our Top 50 Countdown for SeminoleIndie Rock Band, Pavement.Week over week, we're going to countdown the 50 essential pavement tracks thatyou selected with your very own Top 20 ballads.I then tabulated the results using an abacus and a pool cue I broke over my knee in a moment of rage. How will your favorite song fare in the ranking? You'll need to tune in to find out. So there's that. This week we're joined by Pavement superfan Alex from Portland.Alex, how you doing, motherfucker? Fucking great, JD. How are you?Oh, man, I am stellar right now. I am feeling good. Yeah. How about you? Feeling good myself. I apologize if my vocal cords crack.I decided to sing karaoke last night. Oh, nice.Yeah. What'd you sing?Rocks Off by the Rolling Stones.Oh, wow. I went really, really hard in my Jagger mode, too.So if I sound like a mid-pubescent boy, that's why.Track 3[2:50] That's great. Well, what do you say we talk about pavement? I'm so ready. All right. Hit me with your pavement origin story. It goes like this. So I am a millennial. I was born in 1990.So when they were doing their initial, when they were an active band recordingmusic and touring originally, I was way too young to be a part of it or even know about it.But how I came to Pavement is, I was 15. This would have been 2005.We had a local coffee shop where I'm from, a small town in Indiana. And you would walk down there on a given night, and there would be live music. It was usually acoustic bands. And we were there, me and a couple friends of mine. And we're watching this like i don'tknow kind of like weird sort of indieband they were acoustic but they were still kind of like doingheavier stuff and they were catchy and interesting and weirdand the lyrics didn't really make any sense and iwas fascinated like at 15 years old the shit was blowing my mind and i was likehell yeah dude this band's great and i look over and we see Matt the cool kidand Matt's like this mysterious kind of you know all the boys want to be himall the girls want to be with him he's shout out to Matt that kid was just the coolest kid in our town.Track 3[4:17] And I remember going up to Matt after the show andsaying like man that band we just watched was reallycool and he he takes like you know a probably afive second drag of a cigarette just goes they're justripping off pavement man oh wowand i uh i had never i didn't knowwho that was but of course i'm trying to be cool for cool matt soi'm like yeah dude totally totally ripping offpavement yeah they're they're way better so ii rushed home i open up lime wireof course yeah i've been pavement intothe search bar and and by the way i did want touh i wanted to reiterate something i wrote intoyou when you were doing your old show uh in2005 if you opened up you knowa peer-to-peer illegal downloading appuh and you typed in pavement harness yourhopes was by far the top thingthat would come up really even on limewire even back then it wasn't even closelike it was harness your hopes with however many thousands or hundreds of thousandsof downloads And then I think cut your hair was like number two,but it was down by quite a margin. That's wild. So harness your hopes has been the fan favorite for a lot longerthan people have noticed.Track 3[5:37] I wonder if that's because people were looking, you know, if they're lookingfor pavement, like the idea of a B-side is so savory, you know, and B-sides weren't always easy to get.Yeah it's it might just be theirlike you know undisputed best song and everyonejust knows it or something i don't know but i heardit and i just i walked away with two thoughts after listening to that whichis one this doesn't actually sound anything like that band i just heard at thecoffee shop and number two this is definitely my new favorite band the the wordblew my mind the The guitars were kind of jangly, but also kind of grungy, which like jangle pop and grunge are pretty much my whole wheelhouse. And they sort of combined them seamlessly into one thing. And I'm like, yeah, dude, I'm all in.And from then on, they've, you know, my favorite bands shift, but they've been in the top five ever since. Wow.Track 3[6:36] So when you when you finally decided to jump away from LimeWire and purchaseyour first record, what was the CD or cassette? What was it? What did you end up with out of the shoot? dude?Oh, wowie zowie. That was the one that I was just like, my favorite, you know, my favorite record is definitely wowie zowie. So when I had the chance to purchase it, I had the vinyl.I used to have a picture, but I was wearing, I was wearing a shirt of a band that's now canceled. So I deleted the picture off social media, but I had a picture of me holdingup the smooth blank fourth side of that record yes if you know that record isuh it's it's two and a half side wow.Track 3[7:23] Or three sides yeah yeah yeah you knowwhat i'm saying it's it's a record and a half yeah absolutelyit's yeah yeah i wasso fascinated by that and uh yeah i i'm i'm now a completist i've got all thei've got all the reissues i've got all the you know lux and redux and and allthat basically everything that i could get my hands on and yeah i'm the samei'm the same every Every time I come up with something new,it's like, man, and we're recording this, you know, uh, in February right now.So we've heard of this seven inch box set coming out, but we don't know whatit is, uh, and what it will entail.I'm very curious about it, if it's going to be a must purchase or not.I mean, it's going to be just because I'm a completist. Even if it's not myfavorite or whatever, Terror of Twilight is my least favorite pavement album, but you better believe I bought that thing when it came out a couple of years ago.Yeah. Well, we waited so goddamn long for that.Track 3[8:31] So they really over-delivered, I thought. I thought we waited a long time forit, but it was completely worth the wait once I put the records on my turntable. And so, you know what else I waited a long time for and finally got in,I think it was September of 2022, was I got to see them live for the first time.Oh, I was just going to ask you about shows. September 2022.So where was the venue? In Portland. Well, in Troutdale, which is like northeastof Portland, but they have a venue out there that was big enough to kind ofsuit the size of the show.Gorilla Toss opened for them. I'm a pretty big fan of them. We're in their like hyper pop era, which is really fun.I think I saw them on the road with Gorilla Toss as well.I think I'll have to ask Tim from Portland because he's got a way better memorythan me, but we saw them in Toronto.Track 3[9:29] And I'm pretty sure Gorilla Toss was one of the opening bands and I enjoyed it.Yeah, yeah, I had a blast at that show. Also, one little funny tidbit, when they played Rangelife,Malkma found a way to work in All Cops Are Bastards into the Run From the Pigs, the Fuzz, the Cops, the Heat.He somehow worked that lyric into there, and the crowd went absolutely apeshit. That was the most excited the crowd got on it. He definitely knew he was playingto a Portland crowd. It was really neat. That is cool. Cool. Well, I mean, he's a transplant now, right? He's part Portlander at this point. He's been here a lot longer than I have. Yeah. Also, I wanted to mention another cool thing that happened much more recently, about a month ago on my birthday, actually.Dinosaur Jr. played Portland at the Revolution Hall. All and what i don't know if you've been following their tour or not or if you'reeven a fan um i didn't catch the band sorry dinosaur jr oh okay yeah dinosauryeah yeah yeah so they've been like.Track 3[10:48] And they've been getting like a local musician from whatever city they're playingin to like join them for a song on stage their whole tour. And like, I think it was I think when they were in Philly, they got Kurt Vileto go up with them, stuff like that. And when they were in Portland, you know, guess who the special guest was thatcame out and sang a song with them.I fucking saw that. I saw some video. Yeah. How spoiled were you that night? It was amazing. It was like two of my favorite 90s bands getting up there andjamming out together on one of their best songs. And it was just a lot of fun, and I enjoyed it.To see J and SM dueling guitars would be fucking so cool. They're both so different, but so good, you know?Oh, yeah. With the guitar.Track 3[11:45] Yeah, it was phenomenal. phenomenal also they're they'redoing uh where you've been in its entirety and that'smy favorite dinosaur album so and itwas my birthday and i was like yeah the the universe kindof gave me this as a present like you know gotto see malchmus get up there so it was a lot of fundude that does sound like fun god damn it that's fun well what do you thinkshould we get into to track 34 i think i'm ready to get into it then let's dothis we'll be back on the other side with track 34 hey this is bob nastanovichfrom pavement uh thanks for listening.Track 1[12:23] And now on with a countdown 34.Track 3[15:23] Okay, we are back. You heard it here first. The first song from the original version of Slanted and Enchanted to appearon the countdown, Loretta Scars.Alex from Portland, how are you feeling about Loretta Scars? It's a great song. I've got all kinds of thoughts on it, but,you know, it's on Slanted and Enchanted, which is a great album. It's slanted and enchanted is the least uh varied album in my opinion like, most of the songs on it are kind of of one vibe and this is definitely no exceptionum i think it's a great vibe i i enjoy it but uh yeah um i guess if i can start.Track 3[16:14] Out the gate with With my only really negative take on it. Sure.It kind of feels like. Like the meme of like. Hey mom can we stop for summerbabe. No we have summer babe at home. And it's this.Track 3[16:30] They're different chords. But they're played in the exact same structure. And the drum beats the same. It's that classic Gary Young. Boom boom. You know. Kind of thing. But it's still a great song. I'm definitely not shittingon it at all, and I'm ready to say all good things from here on out.I just figured I would get that out first.Well, hit me. Hit me with some good stuff. Hit me with your best shot, Pat Benatar. So, when you... Okay, how do I put this? When you're listening to the bulk of the lyrics are just, how can I,how can I, how can I make my body shed for you? you body shed around your little scars. If you're listening to the how can I, how can I part, it sounds like he's likedrunk or something, like he's slurring it, like he's not keeping up with the rhythm.Yeah. So just earlier today as a fun little exercise, what I tried to do wassing it myself in a way that would fit the meter and it's impossible.Really? Yeah, you can't do it. There's no way. I don't know if it's becauseHow Can I is three beats and the song's in 4-4, but for whatever reason, you can't really make it go with the beat. And yet, when it gets to...Track 3[17:52] Make my body when he comes in on body it'salways perfectly on beat again even though he like every time he does it itgets a little bit slower and more drawn out kind of drunker sounding uh he nailsit every time so i i really respect the way that the words are delivered from a standpoint oflike this shouldn't work but itdoes right yeah ican i can see that it's very sparse lyrically verysparse lyrically it's funny because uhlike one of the things i love about malchmus andit's the same thing i loved about david berman same thingi love about bob dylan dan behar sometimes neilyoung and joni mitchell is like you'll be listening toa song and you're so like emotionally invested andyou feel the power of it and it's sucha great song and then you're singing along and you stop and you're likei don't know what the fuck i'm singing about right now at all and that that'smost if not all malchus lyrics but yeah i would agree with that but this onei'm like you know and i i even did the thing where i went to genius just to see what they would have.Track 3[19:08] To say and uh you know it'sjust i think it's one paragraph that someonewrote in that just says like the narrator clearly doesn't know how to help theperson named loretta and it's like okay thanks for the information yeah that'sreally gets us nowhere but that but that's all you're gonna get you're gonnaget nowhere if you like i gave up a long time ago trying to like.Track 3[19:33] Grab any serious meaning from a lot of Pavement's catalog, if not all of it.Maybe Grounded is like, you know, doctors are these rich assholes that don'tgive a shit about people. You can grab that from Grounded, but most Pavement songs don't really...I don't think they have a meaning. I don't think that's the point.Track 3[19:56] Yeah, I think there's bits and phrases that you can glean something from, you know, thematically in a song. But few and far between is there like a narrative, which was so different whenhe released his first solo record. And all those songs had like total narratives, like protagonist, beginning, middle, end.And like, there's so many songs on SM's debut that showcase that he's not justsomebody who's just throwing phrases at a wall, but he's really got it.So I don't know, you know, like he told me when I spoke to him that he can compartmentalizePavement and his solo stuff.Track 3[20:40] But there's, to me, there's a little bit of bleed. There's a little bit of bleed on some songs. And I, of course I don't have them in top of my mind right now, but, uh, I tend to agree with you, but I think that there are some that, you know, yeah, no, for sure. And, and I'm, I'm just, of course I'm overgeneralizing, but like,so you're thinking about Loretta scars though.Like that's the, that's the song we're talking about right now. And I mean, I,I, I don't have, I don't know what your thoughts areon what the lyrics could possibly mean but i've gotten nothing yeah well whatis the deal with metal scars at one point he says metal scars how can i shedaround your metal scars like is this a robot is this like what the fuck manwell if it's a robot it's probably not loretta lynn.Track 3[21:32] Oh right yeah only only loretta i know of so yeah it's a not a common name.Track 3[21:39] Or cleveland's ex-wife from family guyi never watched family guy so you'reyou're better you're much better off for itwhat elsehave you got on loretta scars i anything muchelse i mean it's a tough this is a tough ask itthere's literally six lines youknow and then they're repeated it i like how you broke downthe music though there's about three chordsfor most of it there's the gary drum beatthat he does on summer babe um we couldtalk about gary's drumming though for a minute because i i understand me tooi don't i like and this has been said a million times by a million people includingpeople on your podcast um but you know westy is probably the more like.Track 3[22:33] Technically proficient and varied drummerbut gary's got this likecertain style of playing thisswag this kind of like vibe that he creates withthe way he hits the drums and it doesn'tsound like anyone else and i really appreciate thatfor what it is and you can tell gary's song rightaway yeah you're right you can tell a gary song right away ohyeah and this this is a great it likethis would be a good song to demonstrate that point if i was going to play asong for someone and be like this is gary young drumming you know yeah thiswould be the one you would choose it would be it would it would be close i meanlike i said there it's the same drums on summer babe and then you've got uh.Track 3[23:22] What's the, what's the song after a flamethrower where it's only one like linethat he says over and over again?I can't remember the name of the song. Yeah, me neither. But that song is basically the same drum pattern. So whoever's going to be listening to your podcast is going to scream at thephone, whatever the name of that is.And good for them. I do that too. But, uh, yeah, no, it's, it's a good. It's a good example of that Gary Young drum sound, and I'm not a musician,so I can't explain it in technical terms, but because I am like a diehard musicobsessive, I know when I hear it and I know when I don't.Gotcha. And you like it. I love it. Yeah.I love it. Really cool origin story.Track 3[26:30] Well, that's what I've got, so I'm not sure if there's anything else you wantto say or if there's anything you want to plug.Track 3[26:39] Well, premature plug, but I don't know when you're releasing this,so maybe it will be out by then.I am starting my own podcast. It's going to be a music-obsessive deep dive, and I'm going to attempt to connect a bunch of dots between bands.Track 3[26:58] Themes, record labels, the culture around it, tracing back from 60s stuff until.Track 3[27:05] Now, 90s, everything in between.Uh it's gonna be sort oflike the charlie day meme where he's gotyou know the he's in like the post office basement he'sgoing through his whole conspiracy with that's right all thestring and shit it's it's gonna be like a musicversion of that so if you'reyeah if you're a music obsessivelike me and you think i'm funnyor crazy or interesting then yeah uh i'll havejd plug this when it's readyto go cool awesome if you don't mind of course i just volunteered you to plugmy show at some point absolutely well alex totally all right brother well that'swhat i've got and that's what alex from portland has so we thank you for tuningin and wash your goddamn hands.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/meeting-malkmus-a-pavement-podcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
The Rolling Stones were at a transitional point in their career. The band had abandoned Psychedelic music and returned to the blues rock influence that fueled their early style. Keith Ricards came up with inventive guitar riffs and Mick Jagger found a more passionate vocal style that could be sneering, angry and resigned. The Stones entered a new phase in their careers. They would be known as The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in The world. Please have a look at these special interest sites. If you would, please make a donation of love and hope to St. Jude Children's HospitalMake an impact on the lives of St. Jude kids - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org)Get your Vegan Collagen Gummies from Earth & Elle, available thru Amazon at this link.Amazon.com: Earth & Elle Vegan Collagen Gummies - Non-GMO Biotin Gummies, Vitamin A, E, C - Plant Based Collagen Supplements for Healthier Hair, Skin, Nails - 60 Chews of Orange Flavored Gummies, Made in USA : Health & HouseholdKathy Bushnell Website for Emily Muff bandHome | Kathy Bushnell | Em & MooListen to previous shows at the main webpage at:https://www.buzzsprout.com/1329053Pamela Des Barres Home page for books, autographs, clothing and online writing classes.Pamela Des Barres | The Official Website of the Legendary Groupie and Author (pameladesbarresofficial.com)Listen to more music by Laurie Larson at:Home | Shashké Music and Art (laurielarson.net)View the most amazing paintings by Marijke Koger-Dunham (Formally of the 1960's artists collective, "The Fool").Psychedelic, Visionary and Fantasy Art by Marijke Koger (marijkekogerart.com)For unique Candles have a look at Stardust Lady's Etsy shopWhere art and armor become one where gods are by TwistedByStardust (etsy.com)For your astrological chart reading, contact Astrologer Tisch Aitken at:https://www.facebook.com/AstrologerTisch/For booking Children's parties and character parties in the Los Angeles area contact Kalinda Gray at:https://www.facebook.com/wishingwellparties/I'm listed in Feedspot's "Top 10 Psychedelic Podcasts You Must Follow". https://blog.feedspot.com/psychedelic_podcasts/Please feel free to donate or Tip Jar the show at sonictyme@yahoo.com
I'm joined for this episode by Mary McGlory and Sylvia Saunders to talk about their book 'The Liverbirds - Our Life in Britain's First Rock n Roll Band'. Despite some disparaging words from a certain John Lennon, Mary and Sylvia, along with Val and Pam form The Liverbirds, and become a thrilling live act, garnering huge success particularly in Germany - they share their story, including their many Beatle related encounters, with me for this episode.
Nigel Holland is a founder of the world class band Evil Woman “The American ELO.” The Electric Light Orchestra, known around the world as the “Premier Orchestral Rock & Roll Band," pumped out many great hits in the 1970's like Can't Get It Out of My Head, Strange Magic & Evil Woman. There was no other band quite like them. They combined the beat of disco thumpers, outlandish space-age iconography, triumphant classical orchestral arrangements, and gentle, intricate harmonies influenced by the Beatles. In this podcast, Nigel discusses: Why they are called the American ELO What should we expect at an ELO concert What attracted him most to the Electric Light Orchestra music Who were his musical influences What Success principals he feels contribute to his success What makes Evil different than other bands in your same genre Why they chose to go with the name Evil Woman and what does that iconic ELO song mean to him
The Rezzonators are a band out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin who at first glance you might think is simply your basic rock & roll band, but that's where you'd be wrong. All you have to do is give a listen to their album Dream River & Other Tales of Adventure to get the bigger picture. Each member of the band brings something unique to the mix and makes them much more than what you might expect. Yes, they can rock out and when they do, you wanna crank it. But as you listen, the depth of their skills and talents is revealed in both songwriting and performance and you'll find yourself going back for listen after listen. „Undercover (of the night)“ (1983) wirkte kühl, „Dirty Work“ (1986) gilt als missraten, wenn man vom Hit „Harlem Shuffle“ einmal absieht. The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band. Vilken är Per drömsättning bland alla medlemmar som passerat genom åren? Går det att hålla sams om man är två bröder i samma band? Högst tveksamt om du frågar bråkstakarna Chris och Rich Robinson. Not all that long ago in a galaxy not all that far away… A band the likes of which the universe had never seen was formed for one purpose — to create an unstoppable musical “force” known as GALACTIC EMPIRE. By reinterpreting classic selections from legendary composer JOHN WILLIAMS' iconic scores from the STAR WARS SAGA into guitar-driven heavy metal, GALACTIC EMPIRE has created a musical juggernaut feared in many systems. Comprised of some of the most infamous and feared villains in the galaxy — lead guitarist Dark Vader, drummer Boba Sett, guitarists Red Guard and Shadow Ranger, and bassist Bass Commander — GALACTIC EMPIRE's commitment to their mission is unparalleled. From a foreboding rendition of ‘The Imperial March' to the sweeping guitars of ‘Duel of the Fates', the band's faithful translations of WILLIAMS' classic scores has created a new “force” where fandom and music overlap. If this is exciting for you, check them out, and check out our interview with them. @galacticempireofficial https://galacticempireband.com/ https://www.facebook.com/galacticempireofficial Learn more about your ad choices. A música faz parte do LP "Live At The Panacea Hilton", de 1975. PROLETÁRIOS DE TODOS OS PAÍSES, UNI-VOS! -- Discord do colectivo ESPECTRO: https://discord.gg/am9krwxj

The Rolling Stones' 1972 US tour wasn't merely the biggest musical event of the year; it redefined the modern rock tour as we know it, both in spectacle and debauchery… and risk. This was the band's first trip to the States since the deadly disaster at Altamont in '69. The bruise left by that show put a target on the bands' back—particularly Mick Jagger—who became the pariah not only for conservative America, but the Hell's Angels as well. As the World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band swept across the country in limos and private jets, the question loomed large on everyone's mind: Would someone try to assassinate Mick Jagger?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

*In a remote village in the Ahl Srif tribal area of Northern Morocco, dwell a collective of Sufi musicians. They play a form of trance music which is used for healing. Timothy Leary called them The 4,000-year-old Rock'N'Roll band - rather superficial hyperbole perhaps - though it is true that what The Master Musicians of Joujouka play is thousands of years old - and shares something in common with the wildest and most inspired of rock music. Record producer, film-maker and Beat historian Frank Rynne, who co-organises their annual festival, came to the Bureau to tell the strange and wonderful story of the musicians of Joujouka, their culture and their interaction with the counterculture of the 50s and 60s We hear about Tangier at the time - and the life there of Beat artists Bryon Gysin and William Burroughs with digressions into the dark side of bohemia - along with the story of doomed Rolling Stone Brian Jones who came to record the Master Musicians shortly before his death. By the time they released The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, their second studio album, The Black Crowes were already a popular band. This album would continue their dominance, achieving a record four album rock number one hits, and debuted at the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart as well. The Black Crowes were originally an Atlanta band during a time when hair bands were on the way down and grunge was on its way up. Their Southern rock and blues rock style seemed to hit a sweet spot with fans. The name of the album is taken from the title of an 1835 shape note hymnal compiled by Baptist song leader William Walker.Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson were joined in the band by Johnny Colt on bass, Steve Gorman on drums, and newcomer Marc Ford on guitar who replaced Jeff Cease. Keyboardist Eddie Harsch was also added at this time and would later be named as a full band member. The Black Crowes have sold more than 30 million albums, and Melody Maker magazine calls them “The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World.” Though only Chris and Rich Robinson remain from the original band, the Black Crowes continue to tour and record as of 2023.Lynch takes us on a journey down this blues rock album path. Sting MeThe opening track on the album was also the second commercial single released. It has a female vocal backing that hearkens back to southern gospel choirs. The lyrics are about a girl that keeps breaking the singer's heart, or it could also be about heroin use. The Black Crowes were vocal proponents of legalization for recreational drugs.Black Moon CreepingFuzzy guitar distortion and harmonica drive this deep cut. The lyrics are about people keeping secrets, and it has a little darker, funky edge. “What you got buried in your back yard? What secret do you sleep with when the black moon come?”RemedyThis is the big hit from the album, which reached number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Billboard album rock tracks chart. It is about freedom, and was written in response to the war on drugs. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme song from the late night variety show “The Tonight Show” Johnny Carson would take a final bow this month on his iconic late night show, to be replaced by Jay Leno. STAFF PICKS:The Wild Life by Slaughter Rob leads off the staff picks with a hair metal anthem. This is from Slaughter's second album of the same name. The band gets its name from its founder and front man Mark Slaughter. The album debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200 Album Charts. Slaughter had five studio albums and three live albums.Temple of Love by The Sisters of MercyWayne rocks out with a song re-released in 1992, and originally performed in 1983. The Sisters of Mercy are from the UK underground scene, and this is their biggest hit, though it did not do well in the States. The name of the group comes from a Leonard Cohen song. The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC British post punk band XTC dropped this song on their 12th studio album, Nonsuch. It went to number 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. XTC founter Andy Partridge was inspired to write this song after watching a carved jack o'-lantern that he had put on his fence post decay over time. The Crash Test Dummies would cover this song in 1994's comedy film “Dumb and Dumber.”Cats in the Cradle by Ugly Kid JoeLynch features a cover of a song originally done by Harry Chapin in 1974. The Ugly Kid Joe version made it to number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is about a father who doesn't make time for his son as he grows up, and reaps what he sews when the son doesn't have time for the father as an adult. NOVELTYTRACK:Summer Song by Joe SatrianiGuitar virtuoso Joe Satriani had a huge hit with this instrumental from his "Extremist" album.

Few bands have come from as little and made as much of themselves as Oasis. Along the way they were wildly entertaining — unlike anything England or the United States had ever seen — and fully committed to the life of the rock star and to making the greatest rock ‘n' roll music the world had ever heard. Through it all they famously fought, with fans, with police and with each other. They drank excessively and did copious amounts of drugs and didn't care who knew about it. They were England's new rock ‘n' roll saviors and they were stacked with Beatlesesque hooks and Sex Pistols-inspired attitude and seemingly, always, on the verge of breaking up. Andie K has been singing since she was a toddler. Originally from Orlando, she's performed for Disney and Universal. Marie has been playing guitar since her arms were long enough to go around one. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST "Amplifying Wisconsin Musicians" Season 3 Episode 84 Danny Langton (Songwriter/Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) Danny was born and raised in London, England. His father was a solo artist and guitar teacher and introduced him to bands like The Beatles and The Kinks at a very young age. In his late teens and early twenties he became a massive Oasis fan and that love for Brit rock is what inspires his songwriting. He has said one of the highlights of his life was meeting Paul Weller from The Jam and The Style Council at a gig in Washington DC. To Danny, rock 'n' roll is about way more than music – it is fashion, mindset and a way of life. https://open.spotify.com/artist/1EBDqXhEebmaWnEMiwrC9T?si=FFjJc3_zS5O07xL3G-qVfQ https://music.apple.com/us/artist/drl-band/1607158957 DRLBandLive@gmail.com DRLBand.com Facebook.com/DRLBand Twitter.com/DRLBand YouTube.com/DRLBand https://www.reverbnation.com/drlband3 https://soundcloud.com/user-330813313
State of the Arts Episode 90 just released! The Moonshine Runners are a Queens-based rock band that brings an edgy new sound to the world of rock while channeling echoes of Nirvana, the Foo Fighters and other classic legends. State of the Arts welcomes the entire band this week as we speak of their new single "Tough Love," their favorite performance ever, future projects and many other topics. Their next concert is scheduled for September 17th 2022 at Brooklyn Music Kitchen at 8:00pm. In a previous episode I interviewed Jeff Free, the Moonshine Runners' talented guitarist. In this milestone episode I am joined by the whole band including drummer Noe, bassist Erik and guitarist Aaron! This talented group of guys have made their mark all over the Tri-State area as a groove-filled, intense, alternative rock quartet. These versatile performers have a magnetic dynamic when they play together as a powerful rhythmic force of sound. I gladly welcome these gifted, fun-loving and dedicated musicians onto my podcast this week for a compelling new episode of State of the Arts! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Rock journalist Susan Masino is the author of "Famous Wisconsin Musicians" and "Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy: My Life and Times With AC/DC, Van Halen and Kiss", “AC/DC FAQ – All That's Left to Know About the World's True Rock ‘N' Roll Band”, “The Story Of AC/DC – Let There Be Rock” among others. She published her own music newspaper "Rock Central" for six years and has written for WI Music News, a monthly music news column, since 1991. She created a radio show for 94.1 WJJO in Madison, WI, which she produced and hosted from 1997-2004.I first interviewed Susan for the Van Halen News Desk back in October of 2020 shortly after the passing of Eddie Van Halen. This time Susan talks about her career, all of the bands and artists she met along the way. I also had something personal I wanted to share with Susan, who is also a psychic empath. My father Jim Senich passed on July 21st and it really hit me hard. I'm still recovering from it and will for a while. I had a great relationship with him. But there were a few interesting things that happened since his passing that I wanted to tell Susan about and see what she thought. Interestingly enough, I scheduled this interview before my Dad passed. It's a story I not only wanted to share with Susan but you as well. The listeners have been so great with sending condolences on the Booked On Rock Facebook page. So I hope, if you have lost someone close, this story gives you the peace it has given me. To commemorate the anniversary of the release of The Rolling Stones' single, Angie, Rich and Dan focus on the years 1968-1975, which in their opinion (or at least Rich's) was their best era.
The Key of F was formed in 2019 by Andie K and Marie Pettit. Their opposite personalities and diverse musical tastes have led them to create music thats uniquely rock and roll. From punk rock to rockabilly, the duo have honed their sound into a powerful swamp rock with gritty vocals and lush harmonies. In 2020 they made Music Connections Hot 100 Unsigned Bands and Artists List and plan to release their debut EP in 2022. http://www.Thekeyoff.com Insta: https://www.instagram.com/thekeyof_f/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/band.thekeyof.F
The World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band. That phrase keeps coming back to haunt the Rolling Stones. Many people see the Rolling Stones as the greatest of all rock ‘n' roll bands. Pop bands like ABBA were great in their way but they were no rock and roll! From a business and religious perspective the Rolling Stones made their own distinct contribution. What makes The Rolling Stones "The World's Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band"? (aka "Why are we doing this podcast?") In this episode, we talk about some of the various reasons why The Stones are the greatest rock-n-roll band of all time, and touch on some of the topics we'll go into on this show. We talk about the iconic members and their archetypal roles within the band (the master showman lead singer, the genre-defining outlaw guitar players, the unparalleled rhythm section), their legendary music, and how they created (and continue to set) the template for what a great rock-n-roll band should and can be. Welcome everyone to another episode of Hawaii's #1 podcast, The Kasanova Podcast. In today's episode I had the honor & privilege of interviewing the hottest new rock band on the block, Somerset!! I got to chat it up with Nick, David, Bobby, Jake, Connor, & Sean of Somerset and talk about their debut album that drops September 24th on all streaming outlets. Band Members: • Nick Aikens: Lead Vocals • David Apostolides: Keyboards, Organs & Piano • Bobby Borenstein: Guitar • Jake Damphousse: Drums, Additional Guitar • Connor Milligan: Bass, Vocals • Sean Silva: Guitar Hailing from Boston Massachusetts, Somerset is a group of guys with a passion for rock and roll. From their originals infused with an essence of 70's and 80's prog, and 2000's alternative, to their covers ranging from the Allman Brothers to the Black Keys, they're a sure bet to get everyone rocking. Somerset is comprised of Connor Milligan (bass & backing vocals), David Apostolides (keyboards), Sean Silva (guitars), Nick Aikens (lead vocals), Jake Damphousse (drums) and Bobby Borenstein (guitars). The name Somerset is an homage to a street in Boston where a Suffolk University dorm stands where David, Jake and Connor met their freshman year. After meeting in their early college days, Jake, David, Connor, and later Sean comprised a majority of The Common, the house band of Suffolk University. Upon graduating and the addition of Nick and Bobby to the group, Somerset was born. It was a wild summer in 1976 in London. Rick Cassman and his band Straight Eight formed and would soon sign to Pete Townshend's Label 'Eel Pie Records.' Meanwhile, a younger rebellious punk crowd including Mick Jones and Sid Vicious was starting to transform Rock-n-Roll for the ages. Rick and the Straight Eight were in the thick of it all. They geared up for an upcoming tour in support of The Who, and then Keith Moon died. Rick was actually with Pete Townshend the day the news broke, and he shares the story on this show. Straight Eight would later go on tour in support of Queen in 1981, eventually disbanding and parting ways a few years later. Today, Straight Eight is defying all odds. They have reunited for a new album and tour, and most importantly- to finish what they started. Highly entertaining and inspirational, Rick Cassman takes us back to the 70s and spills it all, including his experiences at the Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd shows at the Royal Albert Hall. 'You are going to get knocked down. Everyone gets knocked down- That is life. Always bid yourself up and be confident and believe in what you do.'
