*The music in this video is copyrighted and all rights reserved to the respective copyright holders* In this nostalgia-packed third episode of The Audio Files, Brad Zerbo and Jaytriot are joined by special guest Abbey Blue Eyes for a spirited dive into music, memories, and mayhem. The trio kicks things off with throwback tracks from Louis Prima and New Order, spinning stories of 1950s Vegas lounge acts and synth-heavy 1980s dance festivals. Abbey shares her passion for electronic music with a haunting track from Delta Heavy, while the crew reflects on the evolution of music accessibility and the fading art of album discovery. Things take a rowdy turn with a crash course in mosh pit culture, complete with Slayer war stories, wall-of-death chaos, and comedy relief from Jim Breuer's legendary metal bit. The episode also features heartfelt dedications to veterans, a spotlight on the late, great Eric Carmen as the inaugural “Based Artist of the Week,” and listener-submitted tracks including a fiery live performance from Stevie Ray Vaughan. With laughs, live memories, and lots of musical love, this episode blends pop culture deep dives, metal mayhem, and red-pilled reflections into a truly unique listening experience. Label: Arista 0200Year: 1976Condition: M-Last Price: $15.00. Not currently available for sale. This is simply one of Carmen's very best singles outside of his work with the Raspberries: So tuneful, with such a propulsive beat it's gotta rate 2 stars! The only fault I can find is that the song should have been a much bigger hit than it was. And don't neglect the B side... it's another melt-in-your-mouth rocker from Carmen's debut album you must make part of your Carmen/Raspberries collection. By the way, the A side is an edited version of the 5:21 album track. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Arista Records factory sleeve. It has Near Mint labels and vinyl, and pritine Mint audio.

First up this week is an extraordinary 1992 interview with Lindsey Buckingham. Lindsey recently turned 75 and is still creating music, but it's so interesting to hear him more than 30 years ago. Although the interview was ostensibly to promote his solo work, Lindsey talks a lot about Fleetwood Mac – from the early days all the way through to Tango In The Night. And we even have a bonus clip of Stevie Nicks talking about her frustration with Lindsey when he spent two years working on the Tusk album. We also have the incredible story of the making of a hit. In this case, the hit is “Beth” by KISS – The story is incredible because the star is an eleven year old girl – and even though she's a little older now, her tale of how she helped make Beth a hit is very entertaining. Plus, we talk about one of the most influential women in music. She not only had a couple of hits herself, she's also responsible for three of the most important and influential hip hop singles ever made. Her name is Sylvia Robinson, and we'll hear a classic clip from her and we'll discuss her legacy! And finally, we close out the show with an interview with Eric Carmen, who passed away in May of this year. Eric was the lead singer of the Raspberries and then had a very successful solo career. Eric was very strongly opinionated – and you can hear his drive and determination in the clips that we found. "A Few Good Moments" So: how much of a legend is the Winnipeg-born Burton Cummings? Well, let's just start with these few facts and we'll work our way backwards. He's been inducted into both the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. He's been named as an officer of the Order of Canada and both the Burton Cummings Theatre and the Burton Cummings Community Centre in Winnipeg are named after him. I mean, should we even keep going? We will, but there's no need. Legend status full cemented. But here's more: Cummings joined The Guess Who as a young lad of 18 and within a few years the band was an international sensation. They're the first Canadian act to land an American Number One with American Woman, and they had a wildly successful run of albums including Wheatfield Soul and Share The Land. After the band dissolved in 1975, Cummings launched a solo career that was decidedly huge. His first effort yielded the massive single Stand Tall, which sold over a million copies in the United States alone. He's put out close to ten albums, snagged six Juno awards, put out a book of poetry, sang background vocals for Eric Carmen, got a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame, did some acting and toured the world. He's got a new album on the way and we chat about that plus a whole lot more. The fact is, he has one of the most powerful voices in music history--it's a brilliant balance of muscle and soul and his vocal precision is practically peerless. I want to say this before we begin--Burton Cummings may be a legend, but his kindness is as legendary as his achievements--he's one of the nicest guys ever, www.burtoncummings.com www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com
Tawny and Lisa talk about a recent article in The Washington Post, "Why Loneliness is Associated with Food Cravings in Some Women." It reports on a new study that suggests that alterations in the lonely brain may be why some women are more susceptible to unhealthy food choices. And why they often crave sweet, calorie-rich foods, in particular. They also talk about the article's note that it's the quality, not quantity of relationships that can keep loneliness at bay. (4:15) They discuss other talk that happened regarding women, breasts, breastfeeding, formula feeding, etc. There are various cultural aspects regarding them as well. This started in the 1960s and progressed. The pendulum swings back and forth over the decades regarding the topic of breastfeeding vs formula feeding. Vinnie emphasizes that there are situations where women can't breastfeed, such as producing little to no milk, which is a medical issue. Women should not feel bad about it. There was a time when formula feeding was encouraged over breastfeeding. Gina brings up some of the gadgets her friends use. (12:00) Vinnie wants to know the ingredients of a brand of powdered baby formula. (15:00) Seed oils and powdered corn syrup were the first four ingredients. Thou Shalt Not Laugh. With predictable grimness, the Puritanical Left has decided President Trump's remarkably gifted sense of humor is actually a form of authoritarianism. Real Stalin kind of stuff, we are told. Or so sayeth Michael Kruse, in Politico. So naturally we have a field day with this one. Leftist fanatics do not like being mocked, nor do they apparently find humor appropriate in the Gulags of their political discourse. Which is really too bad — for them. Synthetic lives, disfigured minds. Meanwhile, talking the Lara Trump takeover of the RNC. Good tidings, key pieces falling into place for 2024. An ongoing, systematic, almost algorithmic effort to insult the traditional wellsprings of our patriotism? Meanwhile, talking Haitian Cannibalism. Picture this: the year is 1980, and the air is buzzing with the electric sounds of Starship and the soft hum of a Donna Summer ballad. As Scott McLean, Mark Smith and Lou Colicchio, sit down to reminisce about those glory days, we're not just talking about the music that had our toes tapping - we're sharing the personal side of things too, like the heart-pounding adventures of my daughter Amanda's spring break that had me, as a father, holding my breath. Join us for a trip down memory lane that's not just about nostalgia; it's about the stories behind the tunes and the movies that defined an era. Now, let's shift gears to the heartbeat of the year's music scene - from the raw metal riffs of Iron Maiden's debut to Bob Marley's historic performance in Zimbabwe. We're tipping our hats to the artists we've lost, like Eric Carmen and TM Stevens, and debating over one-hit wonders that still have us humming decades later. Stick around for a deep dive into the bands that emerged in 1980, like Depeche Mode and The Church, and discover how their unique sounds left an indelible mark on the music industry.Lastly, as we gear up for St. Patrick's Day, we're tapping into the rich tapestry of Irish culture. From culinary showdowns (corned beef versus shepherd's pie, anyone?) to the legacy of bands like The Cranberries, we're celebrating the spirit of the Emerald Isle. And because we love a good brew as much as the next person, we'll even settle the great beer debate: Guinness or Harp? So, grab your favorite drink, settle in, and let us regale you with tales, tunes, and a dash of cultural flair that's sure to entertain.
