It's all sorts of fun, although because it was recorded so long ago and Sean's memory is not so awesome, the contents of each of the three parts will be a surprise! Oooooh. Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Durant, and other players with less search enging value than those guys will surely come up. In Episode 1228, Sean Woodley and Freddie Rivas (Confederacy of Dunks) look back at the Toronto Raptors Game 1 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 Eastern Conference Semi Finals. Sean and Freddie look back at the anticipation ahead of that series, and all the reasons why it seemed like the Raptors had to juice to pull off a long-awaited series win against LeBron James, as that Cavs team simply wasn't all that good, and had just barely scraped by the Pacers in the first round in seven games. They also talk about how Game 1 irreparably broke the team, the Game 3 buzzer beater by LeBron to all but end the series, and the fallout from the series loss. Lastly, they ask the question: do the Raptors win the 2019 championship if the Raptors go on to beat the Cavs? The answer might leave you feeling a little less sad about one of the most upsetting games in Raptors history. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In Episode 1227, Sean Woodley and Amit Mann (Yahoo! Sports Canada) reflect on the Toronto Raptors' Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics back in 2020 Disney Bubble. They break down how incredible the 2019-20 team was, and what a shame it was that what seemed like a team of destiny had their year derailed by the COVID lockdown and league shutdown. They also dig into the elements of Game 7 that stand out most in their minds, including Norman Powell's many final-minute miscues, the Jayson Tatum offensive rebound that should never have been, Kyle Lowry fouling out in the last minute, and Fred VanVleet's doomed final possession that lead to a three that came up way short. Lastly, Sean and Ami consider what might have happened had the Raptors won that series. Would they have beaten Jimmy Butler and the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals? And if so, would they have been served up for yet another loss to LeBron James, this time in the NBA Finals? Or would they have avenged the many pre-championship shortcomings against The King? In Episode 1225, Sean Woodley is joined by Jamar Hinds (Raptors Republic) to discuss their biggest concerns about the Toronto Raptors heading into the 2022-23 NBA season. Off the top, they chat about the complicated dynamics at play on a team with six core pieces, five of whom are going to be on the search for plenty of offensive touches, and whether the challenge of dispersing those touches in a way that keeps everyone happy could be a risk to the overall vibes of the team. In particular, how might Gary Trent Jr. and OG Anunoby cope with being the fourth and fifth options? And is there a pathway to keeping everyone happy this season, perhaps beginning with Fred VanVleey adapting his role to become more of a table-setter than shot-taker? Next, Sean and Jamar dig into the issue of minutes management. Will Nick Nurse be able to keep Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes from being near the top of the league in workload again with some newfound depth? And will the Raptors approach to the regular season change from the balls-to-the-wall approach they look to 2021-22? Lastly, they discuss the issue of three-point shooting, how much improvement the team can count on, and whether the half court offense as a whole can tick up from its 26th-ranked status last year. If so, will the defense get a little more conservative? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. In Episode 1224, Sean Woodley goes solo to react to the signing of Juancho Hernangomez aka Bo Cruz to power rank the 20 players the Raptors are now projected to bring to training camp in September. Off the top, Sean ranks the six core players on the team: Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Gary Trent Jr. Next, Sean digs into the surefire bench rotation pieces that should round out a very sound nine-man rotation: Chris Boucher, Otto Porter Jr. and Thad Young. Will that trio be the key to Nick Nurse being a little more conservative with the minutes totals for his star players? Next, Sean assesses where the guys on the fringes of the rotation -- Khem Birch, Justin Champagnie, Dalano Banton and Malachi Flynn -- sit in the franchise hierarchy, before rounding out the show with a look at the guys who will likely spend a good chunk of time with Raptors 905 in the G-League, and sizing up the battle for what will likely be one roster spot between four players. Off the top, Freddie digs into why he's so thrilled to watch the Raptors core pieces finally play together for more than just short bursts of time, after the starting five managed to play just 21 games together over the whole of 2021-22. Meanwhile, Sean is excited to watch another season of Scottie Barnes, point blank, period. Next, Freddie digs into the joy of watching the Raptors play gimmicky basketball, as the two discuss the ways in which the Raptors might layer more differing gameplans and play styles into their day-to-day now that the team is a little deeper and loaded with some more complementary skills. Sean, also talks about why he's excited to watch the Raptors go toe-to-toe with the East's heavy hitters, as they've done quite admirably in recent years. Lastly, Freddie details why he's getting Bench Mob-adjacent vibes from this team, while Sean looks at the Raptors performance in crunch time last season, and wonders if it could be a sign of things to come in close games once again in 2022-23. In Episode 1222, Sean Woodley is joined by Amit Mann (Yahoo! Sports Canada) to discuss the Toronto Raptors offseason to date and whether they'd deem it a success, even if they don't pull off a trade for Kevin Durant. Off the top they dig into why the addition of Otto Porter Jr. was such a perfect move for this team considering their playing style and need for shooting. Next, they dig into the Fred VanVleet extension situation, how the lack of an extension despite previous reporting is probably caught up in the Kevin Durant saga, and whether it would be a failure for the Raptors to not have him inked to a new deal before the summer concludes. Plus, should the Raptors have an internal walkaway date from the Kevin Durant trade negotiations in the interest of heading into the season without too much uncertainty hanging over the team? Lastly, Sean and Amit discuss whether there are other things they'd like to see the Raptors address, whether internal development is actually the most likely avenue for them to address team needs, and talk about whether it's disapppointing that a seemingly quiet offseason has turned dramatic ever since the KD trade demand. Off the top, Sean and Big V give their final assessments of a 4-1 Summer League run for the Raptors, which they don't think changed the big picture of the Raptors all that much. Christian Koloko looked as stout defensive as he looked raw offensively, just as was expected; Dalano Banton expanded his game in an interesting way, and Jeff Dowtin might compete for a two-way deal and a camp invite after a strong showing -- but there's very little that happened that changes the Raptors' day one plans, which will heavily feature a tough-to-break-into nine-man rotation of established guys, health provided. Next, Sean and Vivek react to Malachi Flynn putting up 73 in a game at Jamal Crawford's Pro-Am event out in Washington State, and whether it changes anything about his role with the team going into next season. In Episode 1214, Sean Woodley goes solo to talk about what a Deandre Ayton deal with the Indiana Pacers would mean for the Toronto Raptors pursuit of a Kevin Durant trade, and why would it be a good development for those hoping the Raptors can land the former MVP. Sean digs into why it would leave the Raptors in a clear position of power in the Durant sweepstakes, taking away one of the prime avenues by which the Suns could land Durant, and leaving Toronto with the best offer likely to be on the table for KD -- without having to even include Scottie Barnes in a deal. Next, Sean takes a look at the Raptors' outlook for 2022-23 in the event they do not land KD, and why he's bullish on the Raptors being in the hunt for a top-four seed with a much deeper roster that should see a lot of internal development from year-to-year as well. Lastly, Sean examines the incoming rule changes for the NBA, including the death of the take foul (which should benefit a transition-heavy team like the Raptors more than most), the permanent institution of the play-in tournament, and the potential in-season tournament reportedly on the horizon for 2023-24. Sean Woodley from Locked On Raptors joins Adam Armbrecht to discuss the state of the each franchise and if Toronto is truly desperate for Kevin Durant's services. Blockbuster trades are never easy to pull off, and in the case of Toronto they have the recent track record to comfortably refute any package that feels to steep. They guys discuss how winning buys you time, why the Raptors have trust in their roster building, and if the Nets should feel desperate to make a move any time soon. It is a great look at an outside perspective as the offseason moves along for two franchises at seemingly different points, but also joined at the hip. Learn more about your ad choices. Locked On Raptors - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Raptors

In Episode 1212, Sean Woodley goes solo to answer a bucket full of a mailbag questions about Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant and the Toronto Raptors' reported pursuit if the two-time Finals MVP. Off the top, Sean digs into the potential concerns about Durant looking to ask out of Toronto before the 4 years on his contract are up, and whether a verbal commitment from KD to stick around for the life of his contract would change the calculus on what the Raptors should be willing to part with. Next, Sean answers a question about the emotional toll that may or not be exacted on the players rumoured to be sent out for Kevin Durant in a deal, as well as the potential for the Raptors to be invovled in the KD sweepstakes as a third team that lands Deandre Ayton from the Phoenix Suns -- something that becomes a little less likely as the Indiana Pacers reported Ayton interest ratchets up. Lastly, Sean discusses who the 5th starter would be in the event Precious Achiuwa, OG anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. are the price of landing KD, whether the Raptors would load manage the 34-year-old, and what his favourite preparations of Kraft Dinner are. In Episode 1211, Sean Woodley is joined by Adam Armbrecht (Locked On Nets) for a Locked On crossover episode to discuss the state of the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets franchises as they theoretically dive into Kevin Durant trade talks. Off the top, Adam grills Sean on where the Raptors are positioned in a KD negotiation, and whether there is any world in which the Raptors would part with Scottie Barnes to get a KD deal done. Unforunately for Nets fans, that seems super unlikely at the moment. Next, Sean picks Adam's brain on whether the Nets are in a position of power seeing as they currently have a Top-5 player on the trade block and can demand an exorbident asking price, or if they're actually in a bind because of the low number of realistic landing spots for the former MVP. Will the Nets have to settle for a deal below their stated asking price? Could they even bring Durant and Kyrie Irving back next season if they don't get the deal they want? Lastly, Sean and Adam go back and forth in a mock trade negotiation to see if there is any common ground to be reached. It's a tough one to iron out, but they try their darndest! In Episode 1210, Sean Woodley is joined by William Lou (The Raptors Show, Sportsnet 590 The Fan) to talk about the case for the Toronto Raptors ponying up and going all-in to acquire Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, even if it costs Scottie Barnes or Pascal Siakam. Off the top, they dig into how far they'd go in negotiations to land KD, with the one inescapable fact of it all being that... it's Kevin Durant. Is it worth giving up Scottie Barnes and all the potential he has? Or is the sure thing that is Durant worth the gamble -- especially if he can moved later in his contract for at least some form of return if things don't work out in the early days of his contract. Next, Sean and Will talk about the idea of including Precious Achiuwa in an OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr. and draft picks package, and whether it would be a dealbreaker to trade three valuable pieces for one. Counterpoint: it's Kevin Durant. Lastly, Sean picks Will's brain on the Raptors' off-season moves, and why keeping Thad Young and Chris Boucher while adding Otto Porter Jr. sets the Raptors up to hit the ground running the event the team they have today is the one they roll out on opening night. Somehow that segment spirals into a Kevin Durant conversation as well, because these are the times we live in. It's Kevin Durant, man. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In Episode 1209, Sean Woodley is joined by Katie Heindl (DIME, Basketball Feelings) to discuss the potential downsides of the Toronto Raptors trading for disgruntled Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, before taking a look at the Raptors' Summer League roster. Off the top, Sean and Katie talk about the risks involved with a Durant trade, and why any comparisons to the plunge Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster took in acquiring Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs simply don't compute. Next, they talk about whether the Raptors should be wary of becoming known as the franchise that will quickly ship off beloved franchise icons in the interest of superstar acquisitions. Doing it once with DeMar DeRozan made some sense and led to a championship -- but is it worth gaining that reputation even further for a KD deal, especially if it comes at the cost of one of Scottie Barnes or Pascal Siakam? Lastly, Sean and Katie take a look at the Vegas Summer League roster the Raptors announced on Monday, which includes some fun names like Dalano Banton, Justin Champagnie, DJ Wilson and CEBL standout Christian Vital, but also includes Rodions Kurucs, whose history of domestic violence combined with his very clear lack of NBA-level talent is a puzzling and disappointing inclusion on the team. Be sure to read Katie's piece making the case against a KD trade for the Raptors here: https://uproxx.com/dimemag/toronto-raptors-kevin-durant-nba-trade-rumors/ And because the Kurucs inclusion on the Summer League roster unfortunately makes it timely again, read Katie's piece in response to the Miles Bridges case from Basketball Feelings last week: https://basketballfeelings.substack.com/p/by-the-numbers Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In Episode 1208, Sean Woodley and Vivek Jacob (Raptors.com) discuss the ongoing Kevin Durant saga and some possible iterations of a deal in which the Toronto Raptors could land the Brooklyn Nets' star, perhaps without parting with either of Scottie Barnes or Pascal Siakam. Off the top, they discuss the position of strength the Raptors find themselves in, with no pressure to pull off a deal unless they can get the exact right deal that keeps both a short-term title window and long-term sustainability on the table. Next, they discuss which theorized trade framework would leave behind the best team for the Raptors to compete with for a title in the immediate future -- a deal centered around Scottie Barnes and likely Gary Trent Jr., a deal with Pascal Siakam as the main outgoing piece, or a deal based on the duo of OG Anunoby and Trent? Lastly, Sean and Vivek examine the possibility of the Raptors jumping in as the third team in a Nets / Phoenix Suns trade for Durant, in which they include some pieces and receive Deandre Ayton, who is clearly talented, but is the fit right? Off the top, Sean talks about the Boucher and Young deals, which weren't terribly surprising but great to see nonetheless, as they should have been the front office's top priorities coming into the off-season. Next, Sean talks about the Otto Porter Jr. addition as he jumps shit from the Golden State Warriors, and why if he is the final addition to next season's roster, that is a perfectly fine place for the still growing Raptors to be. Lastly, Sean talks about the Kevin Durant trade demand, why he would not part with Scottie Barnes to get KD in the door, and whether Deandre Ayton could still be a stealthy possibility for the Raptors to land if the market bares out in a favourable way. Next, they talk about San Antonio spurs guard Lonnie Walker IV and whether he could be a sound option for the Raptors with their mid-level exception, assuming the Spurs are open to moving on from him. Off the top, Sean digs into the report from Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer suggesting the Raptors could be closing in on a 4-year / $110 million extension, and details why that is a no-brainer move for the Raptors to make -- in fact you're a fool if you disagree! Next, Sean talks about Fischer's report that Thad Young and the Raptors could come to terms on a deal in the 2-year / $10 million range, which would be perfectly reasonable while also putting to bed any debate over whether the Raptors won or loss the Thad deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Plus, some thoughts on Chris Boucher and whether the radio silence on his free agent status is good or bad news, Nerlens Noel, who was a rumoured Raptors target before he was dealt to Detroit, and Mo Bamba, who will not be returning to Orlando and could be a interesting piece for the Raptors to add if they simply feel they must add another center, even if they should probably devote their mid-level exception to guards or wings. In Episode 1199, Sean Woodley goes solo to answer a whole bunch of listener questions about the Toronto Raptors with the 2022 NBA Draft and free agency quickly on the way. Off the top, Sean addresses a question about Malachi Flynn, and whether the Raptors might be able to package him with the 33rd pick in the draft to move up into the first round. Couple problems with that idea -- does Flynn have much in terms of trade value around the league at all? And are the Raptors really compelled to spend more assets to move back into the range of the draft they already trade out of in the Thad Young deal? Plus, Sean digs into questions about what type of player the Raptors could target with their second-rounder, be it a project player with sky-high upside OR a player with a bit more of a role player projection, considering they already have the star quotient of the team seemingly filled by Scottie Barnes and Pascal Siakam. Other questions include: Could Caleb Houstan be a fit for the Raptors at 33? What's the best way to sift through the noise and get the best insight on prospects going into the draft? And most importantly: is it OK to tweet about Pascal Siakam on your wedding day? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In Episode 1198, Sean Woodley is joined by Vivek Jacob (Raptors.com) to conduct a five-round fantasy draft of all the best draft picks the Toronto Raptors have made throughout their history. There are some no-brainers of course, like Pascal Siakam, 27th-overall in 2016 whose gone on to win all sorts of hardware, and Antawn Jamison, who was dealt for Vince Carter on Draft Day. Plus, who doesn't love Scottie Barnes or Chris Bosh? But the thing that happens when you go down the list of Raptors draft picks is that you run out of no-doubter good ones pretty quickly! Does Morris Peterson, 21st-overall in 2000 stack up enough to make the list? How high does Charlie Villanuea, 7th-overall in 2005 deserve to get selected after playing just one very successful season in Toronto? Could there even be a surprise Bruno Caboclo appearance? We talk about why or why not the Toronto Raptors might look to trade Anunoby, potential reasons for the Raptors to make a move now and why Portland is motivated to get the 24-year-old wing. And then we talk packages. Is the No. 7 pick and Josh Hart enough to get Anunoby from the Raptors? What else might Toronto covet? What else can Portland offer? Plus we touch on a whole bunch of other issues surrounding a potential OG to Portland deal. Is Anfernee Simons off the table? Would the Raptors want Jusuf Nurkic? Could Nassir Little be involved? In Episode 1197, Sean Woodley is joined by Mike Richman (Locked On Blazers) for a crossover episode about OG Anunoby, the trade rumours tying him to the Portland Trail Blazers as they look to retool around Damian Lillard, and why it's unlikely that the Toronto Raptors would look to move the forward, even for a package involving the 7th-overall pick and Josh Hart. Off the top, they detail what makes OG such a good player, and why the Raptors would or would not be compelled to move him this off-season. Next, they attempt to piece together a package that mightm make sense for both sides. Josh Hart and #7 doesn't quite move the needle for Toronto in all likelihood, but what if Nassir Little were thrown in? And at that point does it become a little to rich for Portland to pull the trigger? Could something involving Anfernee Simons at all be on the table? Or is he valued to highly by the Blazers? Or perhaps Jusuf Nurkic makes sense for a Raptors team that doesn't have a traditional center? (He doesn't). Ultimately, if you're a Blazers fan eager to see OG in Portland, this is probably going to leave you feeling kind of sad. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! In Episode 1196, Sean Woodley is joined by Katie Heindl to discuss Fred VanVleet, his potential contract extension that could be handed out this summer, and what makes him so essential to what the Raptors are building. Off the top, they dig into the possibility of him receiving either a 3-year / $89 million OR a 4-year / $114 million extension this summer, and why it would be a no-brainer for the Raptors to lock him up for the long haul. Next, they examine some of the fringe criticisms of VanVleet's game and why they really don't hold much water when you take a look at his track record, and also factor in who he learned the ropes of the NBA from -- Kyle Lowry, the most adaptable, team-first dude Toronto's ever seen. Lastly, they chat about whether they'd consider moving VanVleet in the event a star like Donovan Mitchell were the return, and why the idea of moving Fred is more complex than just looking to improve upon his on-court ability -- he's pretty darn essential to the culture and locker room as well. Off the top, Sean examines what the Raptors might be able to do to grease the wheels of their half court offense next season, from unlocking Precious Achiuwa as a vertical role threat, to simply running a little more pick-and-roll, and banking on some internal developement both from Toronto's playmakers and shooters. Next, Sean digs into the question of who will be the #2 player in usage on next year's team behind Pascal Siakam. Will Scottie Barnes be turned loose as a scorer and creator? Or will Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr. or OG Anunoby end up being the team's second-most used offensive player? Plus, Sean offers some quick thoughts on Raptors 905 losing head coach Patrick Mutumbo to the Phoenix Suns. Lastly, Sean talks about whether the Raptors could find themselves in any sort of salary cap peril in the coming years, and why he typically feels pretty comfortable with Bobby Webster and Masai Ujiri's ability to wriggle out of cap trouble. Off the top, Sean and Vivek discuss how any notion that the Raptors won because of good injury luck was dumb at the time, but has evolved to look even dumber in the intervening years as the Lakers and Bucks have both won titles that required plenty of good injury luck, the way most titles do. They also examine how the Raptors defense from 2019 will surely hold up as one of the greatest playoff defenses of all time. Next, they take a look back at the roster that won the championship, which was freaking loaded! Any team that can earn north of $700 million in contracts combined since winning the title had a lot of talent on hand. Off the top, Sean chats briefly with Rafael about Scottie Barnes' rookie season, and whether Rafael was surprised by how advanced Barnes was so early in his career (spoiler: pretty surprised!), before talking about the amorphous nature of the middle part of this year's draft class, where a bunch of guys could go anywhere between 15th and 35th and it wouldn't be all that stunning. Next, they dig into some specific guys who might be there at 33 and their various levels of fit in Toronto, from the raw and unseasoned Canadian Leonard Miller, who looked out of place at the NBA Draft combine, but clearly has physical tools to build on, to Ohio State's EJ Liddell, whose beefy measurables belie his big time athleticism. Plus, they chat about Wendell Moore Jr. and Trevor Keels of the Duke Blue Devils, and Dalen Terry and Christian Koloko of Arizona. Off the top they dig into the current set of uniforms, why they leave them both wanting more, and whether the Tampa season will forever make this current set of jersey designs tied to bad and cursed feelings. Next, they talk about the elements they'd like to see be front facing in a new element. Both Sean and Katie agree purple is due for a big time comeback -- and not in the muted, disappointed fashion we saw in 2020-21 -- while chevrons need to br thrown out for good. Off the top, they talk about the philosophy of cashing in your chips for a team in the Raptors position, and whether the ability and fit of Gobert or Mitchell are good enough to move on from important core pieces to land. Plus, who is even the more preferable option between the two? Next, Sean and Vivek examine the potential fit of Mitchell, who makes less money than Gobert and thus is a little easier to come up with a package for that is legal under the rules of the salary cap. But is he enough of a game-changer for the Raptors to pull the plug on Vision 6'9 after just one season? Plus, how much should locker room concerns be factored into the conversation? Frankly, if you don't want McGee on the Raptors, you should be the one on Shaqtin' a Fool. The next name from the hat is Mo Bamba, who offers much more youth than McGee, as well as a fledgling three-point stroke, but how do you separate a guy like Bamba from the stink of the Orlando Magic?
