About tattoos, great books, and the dark side of the subjunctive. Phuc Tran is the author of "Sigh, Gone: A Misfit's Memoir of Great Books, Punk Rock, and the Fight to Fit In," published by Flatiron Books in 2020. "Sigh, Gone" received the New England Book Award and the Maine Literary Award, and it was also named a Best Book of the Year by Amazon. Phuc received a bachelor's degree from Bard College and a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and he spent more than 20 years as a high school Latin teacher. In addition to his work as a classicist, writer, teacher, and tattoo artist, Phuc is known for his popular TEDx presentation entitled “Grammar, Identity, and the Dark Side of the Subjunctive.” A resident of Portland, Maine, he is also an occasional contributor to Maine Public Radio. Recorded in November of 2023.
