Shoot us a Text.Episode #1186: Dealerships are investing big in mobile service as customer demand and capacity challenges make on-the-go repairs a serious growth opportunity. France launches the world's first live EV-charging highway, while new data shows holiday shoppers are blending online convenience with a strong return to in-store experiences.Show Notes with links:As consumers crave convenience and service bays become scarce, dealerships are rethinking what “fixed ops” means. Bozard Ford-Lincoln's Ed Roberts has shown what success looks like: 46 mobile units, 43 techs, and $10 million in annual revenue. “Everything you can do in a shop without a lift can be done in the field,” Roberts said. The mobile repair segment grew 15% in 2024—nearly twice the growth of the overall “do-it-for-me” market—according to the Lang Aftermarket Report.Industry analysts predict mobile service will soon be an OEM standard, driven by capacity shortages, customer demand, and the undeniable appeal of “winning driveways.”Apple Tree Honda and Acura in North Carolina now run three Ford Transit vans daily, tackling maintenance and light repairs for customers who'd rather not come in.Fixed Ops Director Richard Lupo built the program from the ground up, using Urban Science data to pinpoint customers they weren't reaching—and consultants like Spiffy to scale operations efficiently. In a world first, France has flipped the switch on a stretch of highway that wirelessly charges EVs as they drive. The A10 motorway near Paris now delivers real-time power to vehicles in motion—potentially redefining how we think about range and charging altogether.VINCI Autoroutes and Electreon embedded coils beneath 1.5 km of roadway for the “Charge as You Drive” project. The inductive system hits peak power above 300 kW, verified by independent labs.Vehicles including a truck, van, bus, and car are already charging while cruising in live traffic.Even in an age of scrolling and swiping, shoppers still want to see, touch, and feel the holidays. Two new studies—from NIQ and Quad/Harris Poll—show consumers are going omnichannel, but physical retail and print are far from dead.66% of shoppers plan to browse online, but 64% will visit stores—and nearly 3 in 4 say in-store shopping gets them into the holiday spirit.76% of Americans see visiting stores as a holiday ritual, and 66% say their favorite gifts came from unexpected in-store finds.0:00 Intro with Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier0:52 Edge Webinar this Wednesday1:25 Early Adopters Are Pushing Mobile Service Forward2:43 Richard Lupo of Apple Tree Honda and Acura joins the show9:39 France Launches Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/
Imagine a mild-mannered white guy who takes on a non-white identity to fight crime. Wouldn't 1939 radio producers do an amazing job with that? Listen to find out!Passage to the Orient, episode 140 of This Gun in My Hand, was smuggled into your ears by Rob Northrup. This episode and all others are available on Youtube with automatically-generated closed captions of dialog. Visit http://ThisGuninMyHand.blogspot.com for credits, show notes, archives, and to buy my books, such as Sisyphus, Eat Your Heart Out, available in paperback and ebook from Amazon. What martial art is even more deadly than ninyutsu? This Gun in My Hand!Show Notes:1. “Castello” means castle in Italian, “Lupo” means wolf, and “roccia” means “rock.” In German it would be something like “Wolfenstein.”2. Raymond Tokutaro Muramoto, the voice actor who originated Kato on the Green Hornet radio show, was a Japanese immigrant. In real life, he was sent to an internment camp during World War II. Here's a short bio I wrote about him:https://archive.org/details/the-first-katohttp://dayjobspodcast.blogspot.com/2022/03/the-first-kato.html 3. Read more about the young political firebrand Nguyễn Ái Quốc after whom Harlan plans to name his radio hero:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho_Chi_Minh4. As always, listeners should be skeptical of any claims made by characters in the show, especially if they're trying to define a term like “code-switching” that hadn't been coined and wasn't in use in 1939. The opinions of these clowns do not necessarily reflect my own so I'm off the hook for any lies or mistakes they make.5. This episode was inspired by Straight Arrow, a radio show broadcast from 1948-1951. An Apache orphan raised by a white couple maintains the identity of “Steve Adams” until it's time to fight crime as Apache warrior “Straight Arrow.” Elements were ripped off from The Lone Ranger, like the cavern full of gold that funds his crime-fighting. Only his trusted friend “Packy” the crusty miner who sounds like Gabby Hayes knows the truth. Lots of talk about his innate Apache abilities, his keen Indian eyesight, and Straight Arrow drops his voice and speaks haltingly, although not quite in broken English like Tonto. https://www.radioechoes.com/?page=series&genre=OTR-Western&series=Straight%20ArrowCredits:The opening music clip was from The Sun Sets at Dawn (1950), and the closing music was from Killer Bait (1949), both films in the public domain. In the foreground is a white boat with red cabin. The sail on a single mast is lowered and furled. A man lounges in a wooden chair, tipped back behind the ship's wheel, his feet propped on the rail of the boat with a fan in his hand. Judging by the small smokestack over the cabin, it has an engine, or maybe it's a vent for a stove. Close to the front of the boat, we can see the aft and steering oar of a Chinese junk. Both vessels appear to be moored to the pier. A bay with distant strips of land stretches toward the horizon with two junks a short distance away, their sails yellow and green and red. Massive white clouds take up almost half of the view.

Last week, we shared Part 1 of Joseph “Joe Lupo” Rulli's story. You learned about his rise in the boxing world at a young age, his battle with Polio that tragically ended his career too soon, and Joe's eventual rise within the mafia. For a while, things were looking good for Joe, but by April of 1971, a mafia turf war was raging. Several of Joe's associates, including his partner, had been murdered. Joe was warned that he was next. He was a marked man.In the weeks leading up to his disappearance, Joe had a tense encounter at his doorstep. FBI agents, along with his older brother, Dennis, an investigator for the New Jersey State Police, offered Joe a way out: become an informant and receive protection. But Joe refused. He wasn't a rat.Not long after, Joe hosted a going-away dinner for one of his higher-ups. This event was supposed to mark a new chapter for him. But before the party even started, Joe stepped out for what he claimed was a quick errand, and he never returned. His wife, Cynthia, arrived at the party only to find her husband missing. A wave of panic washed over her. Cynthia had been at home when the FBI had approached Joe, offering him protection. She understood the gravity of the situation and the danger her husband was in.In the days that followed, Cynthia reported Joe missing. His car was later found riddled with bullets and soaked in blood. It looked like a textbook mafia hit. When Joe's brother, Dennis, arrived on the scene, he assumed he would find Joe's body in the trunk, but all he found were Easter baskets filled with melted candy. There was no body. And the blood? It wasn't Joe's. It was animal blood. This discovery turned the case on its head. It was no longer a simple mafia hit. The possibility emerged that Joe had orchestrated his own escape. Had he secretly taken the FBI's offer to start a new life? Did a family member help him slip away undetected while everyone else partied? Or had Joe been murdered, and someone staged the scene with animal blood? These questions have haunted Joe's son for decades. By bringing his father's story to light, he hopes someone with answers will finally step forward and help solve this decades-old mystery. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Joseph "Joe Lupo" Rulli, please contact the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit at (609) 882-2000 ext. 2554 or email missingpinformation@njsp.gov. On April 20, 1971, 39-year-old Joseph Rulli, also known as Joe Lupo, mysteriously disappeared from Closter, New Jersey. That day, Joe was hosting a party when he stepped out briefly for an errand but never returned, prompting his wife to report him missing. Days later, Joe's car was discovered in Jersey City, riddled with bullet holes and stained with blood. Initially, investigators assumed Joe had been murdered. However, testing revealed a shocking twist: the blood inside the vehicle wasn't human; it was animal blood. This revelation only deepened the mystery: Had Joe staged his own death and disappeared, intentionally leaving behind a gruesome scene to mislead investigators? Or had someone else murdered him?Joe Lupo had once been a promising boxer, a local hero with a bright future, but an illness altered the course of his life. When he vanished, he left behind a wife and a young son, also named Joe, who has spent decades determined to uncover the truth about his father's disappearance. As he grew up, he combed through the memories of family members who were adults at the time, sifted through old newspaper articles, and meticulously examined archival materials in search of any clues that might finally shed light on what happened to his father that fateful day in April 1971.If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Joseph "Joe Lupo" Rulli, please contact the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit at (609) 882-2000 ext. 2554 or email missingpinformation@njsp.gov. First up, Joe hit the ground running with yesterday's big news: Trump announced that today, March 18, 2025, the JFK files—nearly 80,000 pages of classified info—are finally hitting the public. It's about damn time, but skepticism's in the air. Will this be a genuine reveal, or another Epstein-esque dud? Are we getting the goods, or just more stalling from this administration? Joe's on it, and we'll have answers by this afternoon. Keep your eyes peeled. Then, Canncon joined the show to unpack the cesspool that is Judge James Boasberg. This guy's a corruption magnet—from his role in Trump surveillance to his daughter's gig helping gang members skirt deportation. The Boasberg family tree is rotten to the core, and Canncon didn't mince words exposing just how deep it goes. Is there a limit to this guy's grime? Doubtful. After Canncon bounced, Joe and Apollo turned their attention to Tina Peters and the government's infuriating inaction. They dug into the ongoing election integrity mess, with Joe spotlighting Dominion and the relentless heat he's still taking years later—people demanding he name his sources like it's a game of chicken. He's standing firm, but it's wild how that fire just won't die down. From there, they zoomed out to the bigger picture: a government that's asleep at the wheel, leaving us all hanging.
