Stadia? Governance? Socks and undies for Christmas. I'm done. 6 months until the zombie of Auckland venues rises again and staggers around the place before eating its own brain and who knows how long before NZ Rugby essentially does the same thing. I'm going to let the undead do their lie in a hole and focus on what is very much alive in rugby, Super Rugby Pacific. This comp, contrary to popular opinion at the start, has provided. Not only has the rugby been of top quality (for the most part), but the fans have also started to come back, and the last round is serving up a fascinating series of games for punters to feast on. Takeaways so far for this sport hack... The Blues and the Hurricanes are playing must-watch footy. The competition is a lot more engaging when the Crusaders soil the bedsheets. The Chiefs have learned the value of not peaking too early. Pacifica rugby is bringing a new layer of exuberance to proceedings. Bonus points have made a silk purse out of some pig-eared teams. 8 teams qualifying for the finals isn't as bad as we thought. Booting 2 clauses out of law 10.7 has worked. That's the kick tennis tweak. The Rebel's demise has a positive. No more Super Round. I also think that the energy behind new All-Black coach Crazy Razor Ray Robertson and the retirement of some key players has left all Super players believing anything is possible now the decks have been cleared. They're playing with urgency, excitement, and an overwhelming sense of ‘pick me'! No, it's not perfect, but it's a whole lot more entertaining than boardroom zombies ripping their arms off and beating each other with the wet end. That'll do. Super Round is here, such a cool concept and an awesome weekend for any rugby fan to get along to or park up on the couch and get some exciting games of Super Rugby in. Interesting round this week with the first cross over games so it'll be good to see where the Aussie form stacks up against the Kiwi teams. So to help Searley and I this week and stop us from being too biased we're joined by the man who knows more about Aussie rugby than anyone on the planet, Mitch Evans from rugby fixation. We preview all the games and highlight the players to look out for and to finish this week we even try to predict what the final table will look like as we approach the quarter finals. Very good insight in this one from a couple of code heads, look out for the What a Lad power plays coming out this weekend and if you enjoy the episode please give it a share.
The Super Rugby competition becomes truly Pacific this weekend, with the New Zealand teams heading to Australia as the championship reaches its halfway point. The five Kiwi sides will face their Australian and Fijian counterparts in what's being dubbed a "Super Round" in Melbourne. Moana Pasifika will have to wait to get some non-New Zealand competition, with their game against the Western Force being postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Perth-based side .Rugby reporter Joe Porter takes a look at whether the matches will be any closer than last year.
The not-so super topic of red cards continues to be a talking point as Super Rugby prepares for its so-called "Super Round" in Melbourne this weekend. Three more players have been suspended this week - meaning at least one player in each of the last four rounds has copped a ban for making dangerous contact to the head. Sports reporter Clay Wilson joins me now to discuss.
