It was Paul Hawksbee and Andy Jacobs for this Friday's show. They were joined in studio by Joe Joyce's mum, Marvel Opara! Kieran Maguire joined the show to give us insight to Wrexham's finances and Todd Macklin was in his usual slot to tell us all from across the pond. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast.

“East Side Sessions” is the Project Grand Slam album that I released in January 2020, just a few months before the pandemic caused a worldwide lockdown. The album features 12 of my new songs - all vocals for the first time. Our singer was the incomparable Marilyn Castillo. The reviewers were effusive in their praise and called it “Album Of The Year!”, “Impeccable!”, “Another Winner!” and “A Sonic Tour de Force!”But the album got lost in the Covid shuffle. So this episode gives the album the sendoff it should have received. It features excerpts from a number of the songs, including several that I wrote for my grandchildren, which made the album particularly personal for me.I hope you like it. Coach Bianca Smith is our esteemed guest for Mixtape Talk 016. She also happens to be the second person on our 2023 Podcast Dream Guest List to join the Mixtape. Coach Smith made history in 2021 when she was hired as a coach by the Boston Red Sox organization. The hire made her the first Black woman ever to serve as a professional baseball coach. While Coach Smith may have burst on many people's radars with her historic hire, she has a journey made for Hollywood. She played softball and club baseball at Dartmouth. She earned two post-graduate degrees (one in law), interned in MLB front offices, and served as a volunteer coach at the college level. She applied for job after job after job, rarely hearing back from D1 programs and pro clubs. She worked seven paying jobs simultaneously, along with a volunteer coaching position. She earned her stripes to make history. Our free-flowing conversation is fun and authentic. We touch on Coach Smith's coaching style and philosophy, analytics versus the eye test, and how players respond to her instruction. We also discuss how life has changed for her since her hire. It's a fantastic talk. Coach Smith is genuine, passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and even a bit funny; in her own way. It was indeed an honor to have her on the Mixtape. I hope you enjoy this conversation. Please subscribe, share, and rate the Black Baseball Mixtape. We really need your support to expand the mission. On the ninth episode of The Cinematic Odyssey Tristen, Max, and special guest Mackenzie take on the gargantuan task of trying to analyze the deeply nuanced and genius film of TÁR. On the episode they discuss the themes in detail and try to wrap their minds around the extremely flawed character of Lydia Tár, played by Cate Blanchett, going into the stark contrast of her musical genius and the sinister and ugly side of her character. The relevant discussion of separating the art from the artist takes center stage in this fictional biopic and the clinical observant direction of Todd Field adds such a refreshing take on the age old discussion. TÁR offers far more than what is deciphered on the surface and proves, without a shadow of a doubt, to be a genuine masterwork in filmmaking and will most likely go down as the best film of 2022 and one of the best films of the decade.

“I don't care if it rains, I don't care if it's hot, I don't care if it's cold. It does not matter. I will push myself for that because I guarantee any person – 9/11 till today – who lost their life in the line of duty will give an hour, a minute, a second, to be on that ride.” – Lieutenant TomFour days. 280 miles. Commitment. Compassion. Endurance. When the towers fell in 2001, NYPD Detective Robert De Paolis was compelled to do something to honor the lost – a feeling all too familiar to those who stood helpless that day. In 2002, Detective De Paolis, seven members of the NYPD, and a friend in the district attorney's office cycled from the Pentagon in Arlington, VA to Ground Zero in New York City, and the Tour de Force was born. Join former firefighter/paramedic and host Phil Klein whose guests, Lieutenant Josh and Lieutenant Tom, share both emotional and entertaining experiences from the Tour. This self-proclaimed “traveling circus” lives up to its name, as the two recount some of their funnier moments with 300 other riders – mostly first responders. While they don't take themselves too seriously, every cyclist knows the gravity of the reason why they ride. Please join us in donating to Lieutenant Tom and Lieutenant Josh as they once again saddle up for 280 miles of open road in the Tour de Force to support families who have lost an officer in the line of duty.Thriving Thru MenopauseGive yourself the ability to thrive in menopause.
