The Pacers pulled off one of the great comebacks in recent sports history last night. That had us wondering – what are some of the best comebacks in Pittsburgh sports history? Some of our favorites included the 2002 Wild Card game between the Steelers & Browns, the Brian Giles walk-off against the Astros in 2001, and the Penguins' comeback against the Flyers in the 2009 playoffs. Callers chimed in with their favorite PGH sports comebacks. Donny Football Debrief – Some of the chat between Donny and Mike North, the VP of NFL Broadcast Planning, last night.
Did Bob know the Steelers would play the Jets Week 1? It's a great opener we are thrilled for. Does Joe have Mullsia? Joe thinks about his golf life. Mike Tomlin thinks it's an honor for the Steelers to play in Ireland and represent the NFL. Steelers-Dolphins in PGH on Monday Night Football in Week 15 might be bad.

Reproductive physiologists are always trying to improve conception rates for the dairy herd. Double ovsync is one of the best tools in our toolbox to submit cows to first insemination. However, as estrus detection technology becomes more affordable and we learn more about physiology, perhaps combining the expression of estrus at insemination may improve fertility through optimizing ovulation timing. Dr. Julio Giordano and Ana Laplacette worked with their Cornell reproduction team to investigate this theory on over 4600 cows in 2 commercial herds. “We are trying to take advantage of the power of sync of ovulation and the power of estrus” Giordano explains. “To get the best of both, synergize the two.” The only change to the well-known Double ovsync protocol includes a delay in the final administration of GnRh before breeding. The goal, allowing the cows more time to show estrus. Take a moment to listen in to better understand the physiology of this synchronization program and how to improve your herd's reproductive management. It's the Friday news roundup! We're looking at both national political conventions to see how Pennsylvanians talked about local issues and celebrating the golden anniversary of an iconic Pittsburgh landmark. Plus, Covid cases are on the rise, and Giant Eagle is dropping GetGo — but another bird is swooping in. We always cite our sources: Giant Eagle is dropping GetGo but the new owners, Couche-Tard, will keep the myPerks loyalty program. Covid cases are on the rise in Pgh and elsewhere, and the new vaccine isn't ready yet. The CDC tracks Covid levels in wastewater, and so does the state, which has a county by county dashboard. Only about a quarter of Allegheny County residents got the last Covid vaccine. The stakes are especially high for Allegheny County because respiratory illnesses don't play well with poor air quality. A bunch of PA and Pgh folks spoke at their respective party conventions, including organizer Erin Koper and Senate candidate Dave McCormick at the RNC and Lt. Gov. Austin Davis and Gov. Josh Shapiro at the DNC. At the RNC, Koper talked about Pittsburgh police staffing levels, which are rising, and homicides, which have fallen since the year she cited on stage. Homicides rose in 2022 all over the nation. The Democratic roll call doubled as a dance party, featuring both “Motownphilly” and “Black and Yellow” for Pennsylvania. Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker, who welcomed VP candidate Tim Walz to talk to the Quips football team last week, gave the first remarks. Point State Park and our enormous fountain are celebrating their combined 50th birthdays. We talk about some of their most fun facts in this week's news quiz. City Paper has a great deep dive into its history, too. Nurses at West Penn Hospital authorized a labor strike this week, and striking workers at the Post-Gazette are nearing two years off the job. The PSO is on its European tour. They'll be back in Pittsburgh to open their new season in September. Besides baton diplomacy, there's a lot of other ways we foster connections with other countries. If you've been listening to my show for awhile then you've likely heard me speak about my experience of being bullied as a teen and young adult. It's a matter which is near and dear to my heart and one that I try to bring awareness to any chance I get. Which is why I was so excited when my dear friend and previous guest on the show, Amy Adams, shared that her cousin literally wrote and created a play which addresses bullying head on. Mary Ann Mangini is a performer, writer, teacher, musician, and all around hugely talented Woman. She wrote the music and script for an original, anti-bullying musical called You Are Worth It which is the focus for our episode together. On this guest episode, Mary Ann joins me in a collaborative exploration of the nature of bullying; what it's like to experience bulling, how to understand bullying, and ways to overcome bullying. Mary Ann shares about the path that led her to creating this incredible gift of a musical which addresses the growing bullying epidemic, provides solutions for working to eradicate bullying, takes a serious topic and infuses some humor to lighten the mood, and is performed by the very youth and teens who often endure this abuse. Working with young actors on this show allows for a lot of open discussion regarding the topic. Mary Ann explains how everyone can identify with bullying because It's everywhere, and not just among our young population. She wrote the show because she was bullied as an adult at her first job. After earning her Bachelor's degree in music education at Grove City College, Mary Ann pursued her passion for teaching choir, music, drama, and private vocal lessons at Shenango High School in New Castle. She also taught high school choir and elementary music in the Riverview School District in Oakmont. In April 2013, Mary Ann released her debut jazz album, Release Me, comprised of popular jazz standards and several original works. She currently tours the Pittsburgh area as lead vocalist for the high-energy disco band, Dancing Queen. She has performed at venues all over the Pittsburgh region, including Jergel's Rhythm Grille, multiple Atria's locations, the Rivers Casino, the Meadows Casino, the Rivers Club, Eddie V's, Cioppino, Fresco's, the Oaks Theater, the Parlay Lounge, the New Hazlett Theater, and Kennywood.
