Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark reacted to the Steelers signing Donald Parham to a one-year deal, so now they have a pair of colossal tight ends. Mark doesn't think the Steelers will have a solution for anyone calming down George Pickens, no matter who they sign. With the amount of TEs at their disposal, how much do they get work in the pass game? Mark told the guys that his dad was a baker for 30+ years. The guys found their way to talking about people taking bathroom breaks at work. More w/ Mark – The guys were still caught up on Mark's dad being a baker and what he would bring home after work. There was a report that there were some Steelers coaches hoping that Russell Wilson got benched by the end of last season, but it never happened. More w/ Mark – What does Mark think of the comments from Ben Roethlisberger since the season has ended? Mark talked about the fight that took place between Antonio Brown and Ike Taylor about 10 years ago. Poni told the story about being stabbed at a concert. Mark talked about a trip to Ocean City when he put a sumo outfit on. We got into a little chat with Mark about wrestling.
Pittsburgh Steelers legends Hines Ward and James Harrison were not among the finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2025 class. "Bleav in Steelers" host Mark Bergin makes the case for both of them. THE VIDEO: [After THE JUMP: People in yellow puffy jackets.] --------------------- 1. Things We're Watching and Offensive Recruits Starts at the top PEOPLE OF INTEREST: Jayden Sanders will sign tomorrow; that's just when his school does that. Olesh might get caught up in Oregon's big day, since he's their final target. Good that he's held out, Michigan's working the phones. Lean? Who knows. Derek Meadows: sounds like Alabama came in with a bigger NIL offer. Ty Haywood: 5-star, as long as he makes it up to campus we're in good shape. QB BRYCE UNDERWOOD: The cackling segment. Been a five-year recruitment—there was a Bryce Underwood recruitment paragraph on every QB target since Dante Moore was on their radar; shows M is serious. Steve's comp is Trevor Lawrence, but runs like Vince Young. Ivins thinks the distance between #1 overall the the #2 and #3 guys in the class is massive. RB JASPER PARKER: So underrated he can't be called underrated anymore. Not fast but is Hart-But-Big. RB DONOVAN JOHNSON: Freaks list, early 5-star because IMG, big injury drop and other schools dropped out, but made Freaks list after recovery. WR ANDREW MARSH: Elite WR. How? Bellamy did work. Seth comps to Cornelius Johnson, because elite double-moves and intellectual family. WR JACOB WASHINGTON: Never wavered even though big Sr season and had Washington come calling. Bellamy's HS, his HC is still the HC. Adrian Arrington/Marquise Walker tall possession type, but needs a redshirt. WR JAMAR BROWDER: Might be 6'5"—flipped from NC State and big riser, contested baller. NC State thought they had a dude. Common pick for class sleeper. Nico? Nico was a unicorn because of his speed. Bellamy recruiter of the year? West Bloomfield legend, Louisiana legend, and owns North Carolina since brother-in-law Biakabutuka lives out there. FB ELI OWENS: Wants to be Max Bredeson!!!! LT ANDREW BABALOLA: Comps to Stanford guys don't work; Jake Long in that he's a bit raw, basketball, length. OG AVERY GACH: Yay Groves, Yay Seth's Temple. Zinter/Sainristil of the OL who led Groves to the greatest season in school history (along with Barry Sanders's son). Why hasn't been bumped up? Nobody was at his games. C KADEN STRAYHORN: Funniest commit; dad is the color guy on MSU radio, but MSU was out a long time ago, won over OSU. IMG center, might be a little small. 2. Defensive Line and Linebacker Starts at 43:25 DE/DT NATE MARSHALL: Most surprising commit x2. Big win out of Chicago. Steve sees him growing into a DT but has the athleticism to stay outside. WDE JULIUS HOLLY: Injury meant nobody got to see him after a killer start to his Sr year but great measurables, guy Michigan sees as next Dom Nichols. DT BOBBY KANKA: Matt Godin. SDE BENNY PATTERSON: Might be the Wormley of the class. Build-a-bear rose late, should have been a 4-star. Edge for sure. PSU and USC were also trying to flip off senior tape. DT TRAVIS MOTEN: Wrestlers have the stamina as well as the leverage. His Hudl looks like Chris Hinton. Might be 280 already. Seth comp: Rayshaun Benny. MLB NATHANIEL OWUSU-BOATENG: Another early highly ranked IMG kid, injury hid him as a senior, probably much much larger than his listed 6'0"/200. More of a MIKE to Michigan. WLB CHASE TAYLOR: The Sullivan-esque super long athlete, outside linebacker with crazy athleticism and length, finally rose late. 3. Secondary and Class Wrap Starts at 1:00:40 CB JAYDEN SANDERS: Legit 6'3" and long. Ceiling is insane. Amorion Walker but this time he's starting as a CB. Freakish ability to move—if you can play cornerback at that size… CB SHAMARI EARLS: Will Johnson Memorial Hey Elite Cornerbacks Are Good. Sam Webb all over this recruitment. Expect the 5-star cornerback track. ATH ELIJAH DOTSON: Pat Narduzzi complains about Michigan throwing around money. Freaky athlete, late riser, CB-WR-S freaky athlete type. Might be best as a CB (think Jeremy Clark). FS JORDAN YOUNG: Clemson decommit because "their recruiting class wasn't that good." Michigan operating in the real world. Flipped him after we lost Ike Taylor, similar ceiling, similar profile (think Zeke Berry) but he's right that he needs some development. NK KAINOA WINSTON: Reminds Brian of Quinten Johnson. Reminds Seth of Rod Moore and Mike Sainristil in that Winston is a football savant. Also a sprinter. THE CLASS AS IT STANDS: Talent parity with Ohio State! What happens when Michigan isn't disadvantaged by rules they follow and their competition doesn't? Look at 1990s: they had a LOT of talent on those teams. Now they just need to get an OC who isn't going to run 80% of the time when he has Tom Brady. Class put together in adverse circumstances: Yes a natty run but also Will Harbaugh Go to the NFL? Their slow walk to taking NIL seriously. Their rough 2024 before winning The Game. OFFENSE Pos Player State Stars In a nutshell QB Bryce Underwood MI 5.0 Drew Henson 2.0, basically. Finding that 14-foot pick-and-roll and Wisconsin has no answer. Defense is also this team's calling card, because Wolf can stay in front of a 6'5" guy. Rebounding? Maybe they didn't focus on it because everyone is still playing icebreakers to get to know each other, maybe they didn't practice it because Wisconsin and Gayle used to guard PGs. Things Discussed: Sam's squirrel problem. He wants a cat. Craig wants him to import mongooses. Seth suggests he put up a Michigan State flag and offer them all scholarships. Recruiting: back on track! Lost 2 guys they wanted, got 2 guys they really wanted, actually doing a little better than Harbaugh usual because they used to lose the Isaac Nautas and top-50 safeties to Notre Dame. Got themselves a Rod Moore comp in Ike Taylor. Seth: Michigan's free safety is a nickel—they want the SS to be a Paige so he can defend tight ends and when they motion a slot across the FS and Nickel swap jobs so FS needs to cover slots in space. Holly: See him as a Jaylen Harrell who's responsible and athletic. Craig thinks he'll be Brandon Graham and we call him insane. Babalola: Would be the #1 OT recruit in recorded M history. Recruiting strategy: stagger guys? Right now it's free transfers so you want guys who aren't going to leave. In the future when you can sign them to contracts Ohio State's going to be in great shape. You always take best available, but your board isn't the national board, and shouldn't be. Example: I wasn't too high on the Smith twins and they might have missed out on Edokpayi and Devon Baxter whom I like a lot. FSU and Clemson not talking to SEC/B10 anymore? Best guess if that's true it's because SEC/B10 don't want to be involved in the lawsuit. What's the future of this? There's no rationality to it so there's no stability to it, so I can't care about it. Right now it's just grabbing schools. Eventually there has to be some reckoning, a separation of divisions, dropping some schools. The things USF cares about are not the things that Michigan cares about, and having them competing for the same national championship isn't good for either of them. Brian: "Wait I would like to disparage, denigrate, and downgrade certain Big Ten members." Seth: You can dream about dropping schools all you want but you'd have to basically dissolve the Big Ten to get rid of Rutgers. The Pacific Conference did this once and reformed as the Pac-8 without Idaho.

Reacting to the Steelers loss in Buffalo yesterday in the Wild Card Round, Gene Steratore, and Ike Taylor.
"Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers' NFL Wild Card matchup against the Buffalo Bills. The Steelers are a 9.5-point underdog, according to BetOnline.ag. Mason Rudolph has led the Steelers to three straight wins to finish the 2023 regular season. Rudolph will likely start again against the Bills. Najee Harris has had back-to-back 100-yard games for the first time in his Steelers' career. The guys also discuss the contributions of the Steelers' rookies: Broderick Jones, Joey Porter Jr., Keeanu Benton, Darnell Washington and Nick Herbig. Meanwhile, the Bills have won five consecutive games. Josh Allen's 18 interceptions were the second-most in the NFL during the regular season. The Steelers will be without star edge T.J. Watt who is out with a grade two MCL sprain in his knee. Rookie Nick Herbig and Markus Golden will fill the void along with Alex Highsmith. Safety Damontae Kazee is expected back for the Steelers after a suspension. The Steelers could also get Minkah Fitzpatrick back from a knee injury. Last, the guys talk about Mike Tomlin's 17-year tenure with the Steelers in which he hasn't had a season where the team finishes below .500. Tomlin's Steelers haven't won a playoff game since January 2017, but the team finished the 2023 season with a 10-7 record. The Steelers' offense has struggled in the last several years too. "Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to start Mason Rudolph in Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. The question now is who backs up Rudolph between Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky? Pickett is coming off tightrope ankle surgery. The guys discuss how Rudolph stepped up in the Week 16 win by getting the ball to wide receiver George Pickens. Also, the guys discuss how T.J. Watt deserves more consideration for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Watt has better statistics than other contenders Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons. However, both of those players play for teams with better records than the Steelers. The Steelers signed linebacker Jaylon Smith to the practice squad. It will help the Steelers add depth with linebacker Elandon Roberts out against the Seahawks. Linebackers Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander are out with season-ending injuries. Minkah Fitzpatrick will also miss the game against the Seahawks with a knee injury. James Harrison and Hines Ward were not among the 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Ike mentions how many Steelers who are deserving get left out given the success of the organization. The guys share stories of HOF finalists Julius Peppers and Devin Hester. Also, the guys discuss how the Denver Broncos plan to cut quarterback Russell Wilson. Mark doesn't think the Steelers will be among the teams vying for Wilson. The guys also share why they think Alabama will win the College Football Playoff. "Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers' struggling offense as the team faces the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday. Mason Rudolph is expected to start for the Steelers if Kenny Pickett can't play due to an ankle injury. Rudolph will replace Mitch Trubisky. The Steelers are on a three-game losing streak and will need help to make the playoffs. The Steelers have failed to score at least 19 points in the past five games. It's the longest such streak since they went six games in a row in 1969 without scoring at least 19 points. That was Chuck Noll's first season. Ike and Mark discuss how both Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee) and Ja'Marr Chase (shoulder) will miss Saturday's game. The NFL also suspended Steelers safety Damontae Kazee without pay for the remainder of the 2023 season. Kazee will appeal his suspension. Last, the guys discuss George Pickens' lack of effort in two plays against the Indianapolis Colts: One play was when he didn't block his man on a Jaylen Warren run. The other was when Trubisky threw an interception and he didn't chase after the defender. Ike explains why he thinks Pickens needs to emerge as a leader in the Steelers locker room. Pat Freiermuth had a career day with nine catches and 120 yards. Najee Harris had 99 yards and a touchdown. Ike shares when Porter used to come to the Steelers' locker room as a kid, and practice against Antonio Brown. The guys also give praise to T.J. "Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss the emergence of the Pittsburgh Steelers' running game in back-to-back weeks. The Steelers ran for a season-high 205 yards during Sunday's win against the Green Bay Packers. Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren each had a touchdown too. Harris had 96 total yards and Warren had 110 total yards. Sunday also marked the second time the Steelers won time of possession. Bergin defends second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett from the criticism he's received. He asks which other quarterback the Steelers could have acquired that would have been an upgrade over Pickett after Ben Roethlisberger retired. Pickett has the NFL's longest active streak without throwing an interception. Also, the Steelers are tied for first in the NFL in turnover ratio (+10) and tied for first in the NFL in defensive takeaways (18). The Steelers have won close games by protecting the ball and taking the ball away. While Pickett's play hasn't been what you'd expect from a first-round pick, he's still playing on a rookie contract and should continue to improve. The guys also discuss the bend-but-don't-break defense. It included Keanu Neal's interception off a tipped pass by Patrick Peterson. On Sunday, Peterson also blocked an extra point, which forced the Packers to try for a touchdown instead of a game-tying field goal. Damontae Kazee had the clinching interception thanks to Minkah Fitzpatrick voicing which coverage the Steelers should run. The guys discuss the Steelers' Week 11 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns starting offensive tackles are injured. It includes Jedrick Wills Jr., Jack Conklin and Dawand Jones. The injuries provide an advantage to the Steelers' edge rushers led by T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Deshaun Watson rebounded after a 6 for 20 start in the first half to complete all 14 of his passes in the Browns' comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens. Last, Ike talks about his trip to the University of Wisconsin-Madison with his son, Ivan. Also, Mark discusses running the City of Oaks Marathon in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tomlin said "it's easy" to coach Pickens through adversity, saying "it's a pebble in my shoe." Also, the guys discuss Tomlin's support of Kenny Pickett's fourth-quarter performances despite having a lower passer rating in the first three quarters of games. Heading into Week 10, Pickett has a passer rating of 75.3 from quarters one through three but a 108.2 passer rating in the final 15 minutes of games. The guys discuss rookies Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. starting for the team. Ike explains the mentality elite cornerbacks must have in the NFL. Also, the guys discuss how the Steelers need to slow down Green Bay Packers running backs Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. Pickett must know where Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander is at all times too. "Bleav in Steelers" hosts Ike Taylor and Mark Bergin discuss how the Pittsburgh Steelers are leading the AFC North division through the first five weeks of the season. The guys share their observations from the Steelers' 17-10 win against the Baltimore Ravens. Bergin credits Rodney Williams who stood out on special teams in the Steelers' win. Taylor and Bergin discuss whether the Steelers should start rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr., whose interception helped propel the Steelers to a comeback win. Also, the guys talk about the impact Diontae Johnson should have on the team's offense. Johnson is due to return on Oct. 22 against the Los Angeles Rams. Taylor and Bergin also discuss the performance of running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. Bergin also questions why John Harbaugh went for it on fourth down late in the second quarter instead of kicking a field goal to try to go up 10 points. Bergin also wonders why the Steelers only had 10 players on the field during an illegal formation penalty late in the fourth quarter. The penalty gave Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense the ball back with 49 seconds left instead of about 10. The guys also share why T.J. Watt is the NFL's best defensive player. Through the first five weeks of the season, Watt leads the NFL in sacks with eight. Last, the guys discuss the legacy of James Harrison, who says he does not deserve to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
