Os metais pesados são elementos químicos que podem ser definidos por sua alta capacidade de reagirem com outras substâncias químicas e também por não poderem ser modificados ou destruídos, portanto são definidos como bio-acumulativos. Na tabela periódica, os metais pesados estão situados entre o Cobre (Cu) e o Chumbo (Pb). Esses metais são utilizados pelas indústrias navais, indústrias de baterias e pilhas, na siderurgia, na metalúrgica e até em alguns inseticidas que, por sua vez são utilizados de maneira irregular por muitos agricultores. Cabe destacar, que por conta de suas propriedades, os metais pesados não são encontrados em sua forma pura na natureza, os mesmos são encontrados associados à pequenas quantidades de outros elementos químicos. É importante salientar, que a contaminação por metais pesados ocorre principalmente devido ao descarte incorreto de resíduos contendo esses metais, tanto por parte das indústrias quanto por parte do lixo urbano com o descarte inadequado de pilhas, baterias de celular ou carro, materiais eletrônicos e lâmpadas, o que é um grande problema uma vez que esses metais são tóxicos e perigosos à saúde humana e também à outros organismos vivos. Com a contaminação de rios e solos, os organismos presentes nestes recursos naturais também são contaminados, incluindo os peixes dos quais nos alimentamos. Além disso, o uso de fertilizantes e agrotóxicos ilegais ou o uso de agrotóxicos ultrapassando o limite tolerável estipulado pela legislação nas produções agrícolas, são grandes responsáveis pela contaminação dos alimentos que chegam às nossas mesas e também do solo e do ar já que possuem metais pesados em suas composições, tais como Arsênio (As), Cádmio (Cd), Mercúrio (Hg) e Chumbo (Pb). No organismo humano, a contaminação por metais pesados causam graves efeitos. O Cádmio, por exemplo, além de atingir órgãos vitais como os rins e pulmões, é cancerígeno, assim como o Arsênio e o Cromo que também causa bronquite (asma). O Mercúrio por sua vez atinge o sistema digestivo, reprodutor e neurológico, além de causar corrosão na pele e outros sintomas gravíssimos e irreversíveis em alguns casos. O Chumbo pode causar lesões renal e cerebral, náuseas, tremores e fraquezas. The guys are back for another episode of the Steve and Kyle Podcast!  On this week's episode, Steve and Kyle discuss the extensive plans that are underway for the new APS.  Sure, that's still another 42 episodes away, but planning early is always beneficial!  While talking about that, Steve revealed that Annette revealed her true feelings on the big podcast. The guys reviewed Steve's latest stint as a bartender at Pulaski Days, and all of the sights and sounds he experienced while slingin' liquor.  Speaking of sights and sounds, Kyle gave a Captain Bowling update, revealing the latest awkward encounter with this mythical creature. The guys also covered the second Presidential Debate lightly, focussing more on Ken Bone and Kyle's most hated internet memes.  The episode closed with a quick round of rapid-fire word association. Recording this week's episode of the Steve and Kyle Podcast started a bit later than usual because Kyle had lots of adult things to do today.  He had to cut the grass, wait for a repairman to come to the house and then spent way too long on the phone with customer service from his cable company.  This led to some discussion about some awful customer service experiences, including one that Steve experienced just hours ago.  Even though the employees were trying to help, both Steve and Kyle were beyond irritated with them.   The guys discussed their encounter with “Captain Bowling” last week…a guy who was really “in your face” and dropped a crazy revelation to Steve during normal conversation.   Steve and Kyle attempted to make plans to go golfing soon, but it may not happen because of busy schedules, including Steve's 8-hour-long volunteer gig this weekend at Pulaski Days in Grand Rapids. Kyle revealed that back in third grade, he had high career aspirations.  Did he want to be a football player?  An astronaut?  Maybe a race car driver?  Nope.  His goals were a bit more…realistic.  And sad. The guys closed the episode by checking out the new Nike self-lacing shoes, inspired by the shoes that Marty wore in Back to the Future Part 2.
