In October of 2025, I had the opportunity to join Matt Wolfe and his crew at Pymatuning Lake. Matt is a biologist with the ODNR and has taken part in fish surveys for 20 years. On that day, he and his crew were conducting a panfish survey. We visited several netting sites around the lake, recording each fish captured. The fall of that year, standardized fish surveys were taking place across the state. Scientific findings and public input aid in managing a fishery. Matt goes into detail on how Ohio does it . If you love to fish, this podcast is for you

This approach creates shared identity and purpose among teams while improving external messaging, leading to better alignment between departments and stronger organizational culture overall. TAKEAWAYS StoryBrand positions businesses as guides helping customer heroes solve problems, not as heroes themselves. Shared brand stories create internal alignment and unified team identity beyond just marketing benefits. Hey everyone! Joe Fier here, in this episode, we talked with Matt Wolfe about his content strategy and how he navigates different platforms like Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok. Matt shared his content release schedule and offered insights on the effectiveness of long-form videos versus shorts for growing subscribers and revenue. We also touched on AI's role in the future of jobs and businesses, and how Matt has been leveraging AI in his projects.Matt Wolfe's Content StrategyMatt's content strategy spans across multiple platforms, including Twitter, YouTube (both long-form videos and shorts), TikTok, and Instagram. His release schedule is something to aspire to, with:Live streams every Monday.Random YouTube videos every Wednesday.News breakdowns every Friday.Shorts released daily, mainly clipped from longer content or live streams. This consistent schedule helps keep his audience engaged and coming back for more.Effectiveness of Shorts vs Long-Form VideosWe talked about how shorts can boost subscriber growth but may not be as effective for generating revenue. For instance, one of Matt's shorts received 3 million views, brought in 12,000 subscribers, but only earned about $400. In contrast, a long-form video with 1.2 million views gained 19,000 subscribers and made $13,500 over nearly a year. This clearly shows how shorts can reel in viewers while long-form content can provide better monetization.Live Streams and Community EngagementLive streams play a crucial role in Matt's content strategy. He pointed out that while live streams yield modest revenue ($1,900 in our example), they are vital for building a strong community. Live streams allow Matt to engage directly with his audience through Q&A sessions and super chats, where viewers can pay to highlight their comments.Matt emphasized, "Live streams are not just about making money; they are about interacting with people and fostering a sense of community."The Importance of Human Connection in ContentOne key takeaway from our conversation was the value of human connection in content creation. Matt highlighted the trend of faceless AI-generated videos on YouTube and noted that channels featuring real humans tend to perform better and maintain viewership. We both agree that being respectful and personable online goes a long way, even with the prevalent negativity in digital spaces. The Impact of AI on Jobs and BusinessesAI's rapid adoption is a hot topic, and we discussed its potential impact on jobs. Matt believes AI might replace jobs that people are generally unhappy with, offering a new opportunity to pursue more fulfilling work. He encourages everyone to leverage available technological tools to build side projects or careers, emphasizing that it's easier than ever to start a business or create content.Personal Insights and ExperiencesThroughout our chat, Matt shared personal anecdotes and experiences in digital marketing and content creation. He's been involved in this field for nearly 20 years, with a unique skill set in digital marketing, video production, and AI. He encouraged our audience to check out a case study he posted, showcasing his successful strategies on the platform.Other fun bits included discussing unusual AI implementations like AI toilets, AI e-bikes with chat capabilities, and even AI-assisted barbecues. Matt also gave some practical tips for navigating the CES in Las Vegas, sharing insights on the best ways to get around the crowded event.External ResourcesOpenAI's Whisper APIAnthropic'sZapier
Hey friends, welcome to a special "Best of 2025" re-release of an insightful conversation with Matt Wolfe. This episode is one you won't want to miss again—Matt and I chat about how his strategies and extensive experiences in digital marketing and content creation and how it's built him a media empire. We delve into diverse subjects like the intricacies of music licensing, maintaining consistent content production, dealing with internet trolls, and exploring the exciting potential of AI tools. Matt walks us through his journey, emphasizing the critical role of video thumbnails, the art of managing teams, optimizing old content, and his shift from direct response to brand marketing.. So, let's dive back in!Challenges in Consistent Content CreationCreating content consistently while handling sponsorship obligations poses a significant challenge. Matt uses systems and teams to help manage this workload. He notes the struggle of meeting old sponsorship agreements as his audience grows, often facing backlash and negativity from viewers who dislike too many ads. Balancing quality content and sponsor requirements remains a critical focus.Managing and Optimizing ContentMatt shares that when it comes to managing content, it's crucial to have strong systems in place. Assigning team members specific roles helps in maintaining a smooth workflow. He notes the importance of continuously optimizing old videos. For example, he adjusted a video's thumbnail and title, which led to a massive boost in views. Click-through rates (CTR) are important, and Matt emphasizes testing different thumbnails and titles for better results.Dealing with Trolls and NegativityHandling trolls and negative comments is part of being a content creator. Matt talks about developing a thicker skin and understanding that not every viewer will appreciate the content. He explains that he now focuses more on engagement through Discord and X, where more constructive feedback happens. However, he still has team members review YouTube comments for useful feedback.Transitioning Email Marketing StrategiesMatt's transition from direct response marketing to brand marketing in emails reflects the changing landscape of digital marketing. He prioritizes providing valuable content directly within emails to achieve high open rates. He targets about 35-40% open rates, with the most important news at the top followed by sponsor content.
