We return after a week spent in darkness with Dave yet again failing to keep any of his alloted charges in check and on-topic. This week we discuss The Persona Games, Harold Camping and the Mysterious Missing Rapture, LA Noire, Dwarves in yet more peril, Ally's vast list of played games, casual racism and Unicum. We also get nitty and/or gritty with The Large Hadron Collider, Stu's love of tiny RPG's, Bitchy Fem-Shep and Dawn of War II: Retribution. Cast: Dave Rose, Stewart Loudon, Ally Hay, Sean McCarter, Darren Fotheringham
Bill Abner and Dan Stapleton arrive to help Rob sort out the long-delayed Dawn of War II: Retribution episode. Rob isn't wild about the campaign for a few reasons, and eventually he starts to figure out why. Bill dislikes Chaos Marines wailing on electric guitars, and he thinks that's indicative of the direction the 40K universe has gone. Everything goes brilliantly until the show ends and Dan asks, "Wait, was I supposed to be recording?" Then Rob executes him, inspiring everyone to greater feats of podcasting next week. Bill's Retribution review
After a few retro episodes, it’s all about the games of today this week. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Gifford talk through the highs and lows of Torchlight, Dawn of War II: Retribution, Hard Corps: Uprising, Bulletstorm and say goodbye to a 360 soldier. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow It’s time to get caught up on all of the games we’ve been playing the last month. Before we do that though, we can skip over our Threesomes of the Week where Justin continues his battle against literacy. Then, our On the Spot question gets all topical to ask, “What will it take to get you to buy a Nintendo 3DS?” and it looks like Nintendo has an uphill battle with Gifford and Ethan who wouldn’t take the new handheld if it was given to them for free. Everyone selects two major games to talk about this week and we give a run down of a few others that we’ve spent time with in March. We discuss Torchlight, Bulletstorm, Mortal Kombat, Hard Corps: Uprising, among others, but only one game has the “hot key action” we’ve all been craving. The website is gearing up for our 1st anniversary so be on the look out for a few subtle changes to the site in the near future. Before the crew takes off for the night, we do a final count of how many Xbox 360’s we have lost as a group and salute Gifford’s fallen comrade. It’s time to get ready to shoot some friends so Justin, Cole, Ethan, Gifford, and Christina revisit their multiplayer gaming history. From Atari to Xbox Live, Breakout to Worms, Gears of War to Double Dribble, we define our favorite era of multiplayer. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Our competitive blood is boiling in preparation for the 1st Horrible All Nighter this week. Before we can get to that though, Christina and Gifford fight over the true identity of Michael Caine. Our on the Spot question asks which video game protaganist has had the roughest life where Isaac Clarke and Animal Crossing can finally go head-to-head. Our Memorable Multiplayer discussion takes the Cursed on another time travelling adventure to the days of having only one Atari controller, hard fought Tecmo Bowl victories, and learning the arcade art of spine ripping. Justin is forced to relive his Goldeneye nightmares and still isn’t able to convince anyone new to play Smash Bros while Cole eventually gives way to admit he still enjoys Modern Warfare. Join us this Thursday at 8pm EST on Xbox Live for our Gears of War 2 Horrible All Nighter. Put us in our place and we’re sure to talk trash about you in a future episode. As we head out, Christina asks for a death certificate from Square Enix and Cole is tries to talk himself out of PlayStation Plus.
How committed we are to reviewing the monthly video game industry headlines? We got iced in and patiently waited for the internet to be restored just for this podcast. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Christina reconnect to bring you the headlines of Jan 2011. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Some thought it would never happen and some relationships were ruined in its creation, but we happy to bring you a cabin fever ridden edition of The Horrible Show. Cole has finally beaten Mass Effect 2, just in time for Ethan to start, so we may never actually be done talking about this game. Were you ever scared of telepathic gnomes? After this week’s On the Spot question you won’t be either. In ongoing quest to determine which headlines matter at all we set our sights on the new handheld gaming systems, actually compliment Activision, and come up with a much better way to screen the Heavy Rain movie. Finally, we say goodbye to Christina, who not only defied our advice, but her own psychical created advice warning her to stay away from the worst newest MMORPG not involving superheroes on the market. Ok, now we are ready to talk 2011. Justin and Ethan welcome back Cole, Christina and for the first time, GiffTor. The crew previews the games of 2011 including: Batman: Arkham City, Gears of War 3, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 3, and Uncharted 3. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Cole returns safely to the podcast and to the midwest, just in time to welcome another Justin to the show when GiffTor shows up for our preview of the games of 2011. With 5 Threesomes of the Week to get through we still manage to make houses and the ocean sound halfway interesting. The On the Spot question laughs at our mounting pile of games yet to be played to finds out what games we still have left from 2009, and Cole reveals he only wants to play with Cole. Our 2011 Preview takes us to the end of some trilogies (Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3), makes sure sure-fire predictions about the upcoming year, and proves time and time again that Christina is wrong (or outnumbered). Horrible Night wants to hear from you, our favorite listener/reader, as we plan out the future of the site. Reach out via our contact form to let us know what you’d like to see more or less of. Because we wouldn’t want to end up like, Kotaku, the victim of Justin’s latest industry shout-out.
