In this episode Gino, Pete, and Em are joined by former co-host Billy to celebrate 10 years of Deep Listens! We take some listener emails and questions for a while before turning our attention to the game of the week... Duke Nukem Forever. I don't want to spoil too much, but we did not care for this game. Not one bit. Thanks to all of our listeners for 10 years of support! Here's to 10 more! And thanks to PirateScurvy for the art for this episode! While @GameAgentET (OGiH) and The Six-Button Samurai have been patiently awaiting the much-ballyhooed Nintendo Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2nd, in typical Nintendo fashion, they zigged when everyone awaited a zag and dropped a final (?) original Switch-focused Direct the week before. They went about announcing some new titles (including a very real and Duke Nukem Forever-level overdue) Metroid Prime 4, and definitely some surprises one normally associates with PlayStation, such as Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots and Patapon 1 & 2. Is this the beginning of the end for console wars? Not likely, but there's a lot to pick apart on the latest OH GOD IT Hz! https://www.teepublic.com/user/ruminationsradionetworkhttps://linktr.ee/ohgodithzwww.RuminationsRadioNetwork.comwww.instagram.com/RuminationsRadioNetworkTwitter: RuminationsRadioNetwork@RuminationsNMusic and Production by Mitch Proctor for Area 42 Studios and SoundAudio Engineered by Dean Delp for Area 42 Studios and Sound https://twitter.com/DeanDelpVOhttps://www.patreon.com/RuminationsRadio ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Une émission préparée et enregistrée par Mathieu, Winston et Babar. Montage de Mathieu et générique par le magnifique TMDJC. Pour ne rien louper de nos podcasts. Hail to the King ?
In this week's Gaming Fun Fact we explore one of the first public cases of development hell by analyzing a game that took a whole 14 years to release! Duke Nukem Forever went through two development teams, two engines, and some terrible reviews before all was said and done. This goes to show us that video game development isn't easy, and even if a project should only take a couple years - it can easily spin out of control. GameStop has pivoted once again, this time to focus on retro gaming. GameStop Retro locations are stores that will stock physical consoles, discs, and cartridges from classic Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Sega platforms. As the hobby of video game collecting seems to be heating up online, is this a good move for the aging (and struggling) retailer? With the recent masterpiece that is the Borderlands movie (this is a joke), why wouldn't we want more video game TV and movie content? This time some Remedy franchises, namely Control and Alan Wake, are taking to the big and small screens as we just recently learned that some TV and movie projects are being worked on! Furthermore, "other audiovisual formats" based on these franchises were also confirmed - I bet it's a podcast or two!
Tonight's questions: - Would a Marvel vs Capcom game with anime characters sell? - Will Dragon Ball Z Sparking be more popular than Tenkaichi? - Will we finally get Capcom vs SNK 3? - Is Sony going to continue making service games? - Why doesn't Sony contract folks from the emulation community? - Why is The Coalition removing Gears of War videos from YouTube? - How come more games don't have destructible environments? - Will Elder Scrolls 6 take as long to release as Duke Nukem Forever? - Can Nintendo get away with releasing one hit every three years? - Can the Elden Ring DLC win Game of the Year? - Why do Western game executives earn more than Japanese CEOs? A Video Game Time Capsule: The Complete History of Video Games, presented by MRIXRT @reallycool
From 1997 to 1999, the gaming industry underwent a series of significant transformations that redefined its landscape. In 1997, as 3D gaming continued to revolutionize the industry, Sony's PlayStation emerged dominant, but it wasn't without challenges, as both Nintendo and Sega grappled with changing dynamics. A notable highlight was the intriguing saga of "Duke Nukem Forever" and its impact on the perception of game development. By 1998, the gaming world celebrated a milestone as it was recognized as a bona fide art form, with awards honoring its creative achievements. This was juxtaposed with controversies surrounding violent game content, even as Sega's Dreamcast ushered in the sixth console generation with its cutting-edge features. The year 1999 witnessed the meteoric rise of indie developers and the massive success of Pokemon, a phenomenon that transcended the gaming sphere. Additionally, Hollywood's foray into gaming, exemplified by Stephen Spielberg's "Medal of Honor", signaled a major shift, while legal battles like Sony Corporation v. Bleem LLC emphasized the importance of intellectual property and sparked debates on emulation.Featured Games:Final Fantasy VII, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, GoldenEye 007, The Curse of Monkey Island, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Age of Empires, Ultima Online, Sonic Jam, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Half-Life, Unreal, Pokemon Red and Blue, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Super Smash Bros, StarCraft, System Shock 2, Age of Empires II, and RollerCoaster Tycoon. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ (00:00) - Episode 5 (00:06) - 1997 (30:19) - 1998 (46:55) - 1999 Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme

Duke Nukem 3D took the world by storm in 1996, pushing first-person shooter video games to a new frontier. The sequel, Duke Nukem Forever, was planned for release before the end of 1998, but remained stuck in development hell for over 14 years. Hosted by Corbin Davenport, guest starring Katie Janzen. We walk through boring gray hallways for the entirety of this episode. We kind of stop explaining it, so if you're ever wondering what's happening while we talk about toilet humour in JoJo for the nth time just remember everything is gray and boring and this game sucks and is bad. The Orange Juice thing is from 4PlayerPodcast and the songs I played were Spiral Mountain by Banjo-Kazooie and my dad Grant Kirkhope, Stuck in the Middle With You by Stealers Wheel who probably wrote more than just that song but the jury's out, the X-Men Animated Series intro, the song by Beck from Odelay that has a synonym for 'butt' in the title that I don't want a Google robot to read and blacklist me for foul language, In A Jar by Dinosaur Jr., All Your Kayfabe Friends by Los Campesinos!, which is unfortunate that I had two bands with punctuation in their names because now those commas look weird, and Toilet of Venus by Me Rex. Also this is for no one but me, but I think the electricity sounds right around the one hour mark are the exact same as Storm Spirit's zip in Dota 2. Neat.
It's a week of strained relationships between media companies and their audiences, with Wizards of the Coast dropping the dice under the table while trying to install a few legal trapdoors with a new Open Gaming License, Ubisoft cancelling games left and right while delaying Skull and Bones yet again...anybody ever heard of a long-delayed disaster called Duke Nukem Forever, by the way? No reason. Elsewhere, Gina Carano enjoys her post-Star Wars free speech lifestyle to the tune of a whopping $13,000 at the box office. Awesome. Speaking of Star Wars, Marvel is celebrating Black History Month with ten cover variants featuring Black characters from a galaxy far, far away. HBO Max has a double-edged sword of a week between The Last of Us getting rave reviews and Velma being almost universally despised. And Paramount announces--at just the right time--that a Dungeons & Dragons television show is on its way. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/media-sandwich/support

Join us this week as we discuss some of the biggest gaming and homebrew related news in the past week, month or whatever time it's been since the last episode. Starting off, we talk about the new hopefully-not-to-be-DMCA'd-soon homebrew project called Metroid 64 by mexican developer Luto Akino, following up with the new fiscal report for Nintendo's FY. After which, we talk about a newly discovered build of Duke Nukem Forever - with the source code out on the web somewhere, compilable and playable. Square Enix has decided to sell off it's western IPs, we argue whether or not this is good or bad for franchises such as Deus Ex and Tomb Raider (no we don't lol, but we should've).

Mickey Avalon's life story plays out like an episode of VH1′s ‘Behind The Music,” marred by personal tragedy, triumphs and immense pain. Avalon's back-story begins on the streets of Hollywood, California. Raised by his heroin-addicted father, he began selling pot at a young age, a trade he acquired from his mother. In an attempt to clean up his act, Mickey converted to Orthodox Judaism in his late teens, an effort that didn't last due to constant family tragedy, such as his father's death in a tragic drunk driving accident. By his early 20s, Mickey had married, had a daughter, and moved out of California, relocating to Portland, Oregon. The serine surroundings of the Pacific Northwest couldn't hide Mickey from his past for long, as his drug addled Hollywood lifestyle caught up with him in the form of an uncontrollable heroin addiction. As his life neared rock bottom, Mickey found himself broke, divorced, and turning to prostitution, just to support his smack habit. With a desire to once again get his life back on track, Avalon moved in with his sister, and the pair set out on the road to recovery. Tragedy struck again when his sister relapsed, and died from a heroin overdose. After the deaths of both his father and sister, Mickey decided that he wanted more out of life, moved back to Los Angeles, and chose to make one final attempt to clean up his act. Shortly after his return, Mickey was befriended by ex-MTV VJ Simon Rex (aka Dirt Nasty), who encouraged Avalon to pursue his passion of hip-hop and even collaborated with him on some tracks. At the time, Avalon was staying in a sober living facility and had a strict curfew, so Dirt Nasty began passing out Mickey's demo at Hollywood clubs, which helped Mickey develop a following among fans of the Los Angeles nightclub scene. As Mickey's popularity grew, he began to sell out clubs throughout California with his legendary live show. Soon after Interscope Records took notice of the guerilla promotions tactics and signed Avalon to the label in 2005. Through Interscope, Avalon released his now classic self-titled debut album, which showcased his unique rhyming style and indulgent lyrics. Inspired by his experiences on the streets with drugs and prostitution, the raw honesty of his songs immediately resonated with audiences. Fan favorites “Jane Fonda,” “Mr. Right” and “My Dick” quickly spread across the internet and mainstream radio, turning Mickey Avalon into a household name. Avalon quickly took to the road and was performing sold-out shows alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Travis Barker and DJ AM, Snoop Dogg, Stephen Marley and Slightly Stoopid. Mickey's contagious demeanor and unique writing style has made him a hot commodity in the music industry as hip-hop artist Young Jeezy and producer Jermaine Dupri jumped at the chance to collaborate with him for a Boost Mobile commercial. Avalon then joined forces with rock acts the Happy Mondays, and Unwritten Law, with whom he co-wrote the radio hit “Shoulda Known Better”. His music has been featured in countless movies and television series including the HBO's series Hung, the animated series American Dad, the Duke Nukem Forever video game, Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay and most recently in the trailers for the Cameron Diaz film “Bad Teacher.” --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dadcastco/support
