2009 action-adventure game
POPULARITY
Batman: Arkham Asylum is a 2009 action adventure game where you play as the Dark Knight on what the developers describe as "the worst night of his life". Trapped on an island with literally all the villains, Batman must survive the night as well as putting a stop to Jokers evil scheme to poison Gotham. Between kicking and punching, climbing, gadget-ing and detectiving, it's safe to say Bats is a busy boy. Click here for the list! I always preferred Batman: Arkham Asylum to Batman: Arkham City, but the gap this time was much larger and I have to assume it's at least partially due to the time gap between playthroughs being so small this time around; I just think playing these games back to back does Arkham City no favors. That said, and regardless of how time affected my feelings, I still think Arkham City is a worse game in almost every way, going for quantity over quality (except when it comes to the main storyline, which is actually shorter than Arkham Asylum's). It is by no means bad, man, but unlike its older brother, it's no "greatest game of all time" contender.
It's been a while since I've replayed a game, since I put out an episode of Second Runs, but when I decided it was finally time to play Batman: Arkham Knight, I knew what needed to be done first: replay every Arkham game that came before (and play the ones I never played for the first time). That brings us here, with me revisiting Batman: Arkham Asylum for not the second time, but the third time--which I only learned after booting up the remastered version and seeing a 72% completion save in front of me. Long story short: Arkham Asylum is not only a great Batman game, but one of the greatest games of all time, and if you want the long story long, check out this episode and enjoy.

Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 07/08/2024 *It's National Video Game Day so why not discuss one of the biggest things happening to the medium and that's the surplus of adaptations. Sean and Marc rank their Top 5 Most Wanted Video Game Adaptations, which can include unreleased TV shows or movies that are known to be in development, or we can delve into our bag of hopefuls and put in some video games that have never seen the big or small screen outside of its native format. Marc's been playing more of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance and also more of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC as well. Sean continues to have to focus on other things, but the video game drought will be ending very soon. Plus, more on adaptations as the Horizon Netflix show and Batman: Arkham Asylum are no longer moving forward. Paramount is now controlled by Skydance in an $8 Billion dollar deal. Ghost of Tsushima wins the month of May in the USA. Nicky and Eric are both Batman as they celebrate their favorite extra super hero in an episode all about Batman: Arkham Asylum. Arkham Asylum is a 2009 action-adventure game developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Eidos Interactive for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. A Mac OS X version was released later in 2011. In the game's main storyline, Batman battles his archenemy, the Joker, who instigates an elaborate plot to seize control of Arkham Asylum, trap Batman inside with many of his incarcerated foes, and threaten Gotham City with hidden bombs. Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?) BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. We try to cover all types of video games including: Retro and New video games Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, and PC games Any and all genres including RPG, Simulation, Beat em up, platforming, mystery, first person shooter, sandbox, puzzle, action adventure, etc. Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressanybutton_podcast Credits: Nicky Smith Eric Luedtke Music by Mark Spurlock References: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Arkham_Asylum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eidos_Interactive https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkham_Asylum:_A_Serious_House_on_Serious_Earth http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2009/08/the-rest-of-the-story-batman-arkham-asylum/1#.UV9IM5NthNJ https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/6126146/Batman-Arkham-Asylum-interview-with-Paul-Dini.html https://www.cbr.com/unused-arkham-asylum-art/ https://gamerant.com/batman-arkham-asylum-combat-stealth-radar-detective-mode/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1282022/trivia/ https://www.ign.com/articles/2013/04/29/eight-of-the-most-hilarious-anti-piracy-measures-in-video-games https://arkhamcity.fandom.com/wiki/Luke_Oliver https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_Squad:_Kill_the_Justice_League https://www.ign.com/articles/wb-games-says-it-plans-to-double-down-on-live-service-despite-suicide-squad-failing-to-meet-expectations

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Batman: Arkham Asylum is such an important video game. It's not just one of the greatest games ever made, but it really kicked off the modern era of superhero games, and I'd argue that it influenced the action genre as a whole. It's about damned time we showed it some love on RTG. Arkham Asylum absolutely dominated our PS3/Xbox 360 poll in November, and I've spent a couple weeks repaying it for the first time in well over ten years. It might feel a litttttttle basic, combat wise, by today's standards, but holy balls does it hold up. Still looks great, plays awesome, and that voice acting? Forget about it. My guest this week is the Robin to my Batman, my buddy Tyler, and we stayed up late Friday night talking about what an incredible game Arkham Asylum is, and what kind of impact it had on the industry moving forward. And before we visit the Batcave that was built under a prion with nobody noticing which makes absolutely no fucking sense, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I have a method to my madness as far as what console I play multi-console games on these days. Would a new Ecco the Dolphin game work in 2024? And if I could pick one game to be a launch title for Nintendo's next console, what would it be? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 retro Batman games: Batman (NES), The Adventures of Batman & Robin, and Batman Forever! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Matt and Jay are back and looking at what they missed out on in 2023. First off, they catch up and talk some college sports. They quick hit Steven Yuen leaving the Thunderbolts, 3D printing, No Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad, Rebel Moon thoughts, Skybound's GI Joe/Transformers crossover, the Rey Star Wars movie, Aquaman 3rd party thoughts, Steamboat Willie in the public domain, a promising update on Spawn, and some details on the new Batman cartoon. They then deep dive into what movies they didn't see in 2023 and how they think that will impact their upcoming best of list. Inspired by the recent-ish release of Detective Pikachu Returns, the topic of this week's Best Games Ever show is: what's the best Detective Game? And it's a doozy of a topic, because there's so many to choose from. Investigative gameplay crops up in so many things. Even the recent Assassin's Creed games could arguably qualify, if you're happy to define “detective work” as “pressing a special button to highlight environmental clues”. We'll just get it out of the way right now: nobody picked Disco Elysium, so that's the pseud's favourite out, and nobody picked the smart-arse Batman Arkham Asylum option either. I was as shocked as you are. It just goes to show, though, how broad and open a topic it is. It's unsurprising, really, given how solving mysteries is probably the most prevalent way of interacting with virtual worlds aside from doing violence. Hunting for clues and hidden objects, following threads until you reach a conclusion, making informed decisions based on a combination of hard evidence and your own gut instinct. There are lots of games out there that feature detective work, but no actual detectives. Likewise, there are plenty that star detectives, but contain no actual detective work. It's perhaps an historical oddity that, of all the Pokemon games to get a big Hollywood live-action adaptation, Detective Pikachu was the one that made it to the silver screen. Until the success of the movie, in the west at least, it was a relatively obscure spin-off for proper enthusiasts: an imported curio with a cult following, but nothing like the reach of a mainline Pokemon game. It's also an oddity in that it's Ryan Reynolds' only decent film in a career of absolute toilet, but it's also a role that everyone wanted Danny Devito to play, so Ryan Reynolds isn't even that much of an asset to the thing. Anyway. What on earth was I saying. Oh yeah, detective games. So, which of these bewildering number of games is the best one, according to our esteemed panel? Well, in order to fine out, you'll have to watch or listen to this here podcast, which you can do via several approved methods below. Cor, aren't we good to you. A Video Game Time Capsule: The Complete History of Video Games, presented by MRIXRT @reallycool
Between 2009 and 2010, the video game industry underwent monumental shifts. In 2009, as the world grappled with a recession, gaming conventions proliferated, transforming gaming from niche pastime to mainstream phenomenon. The rise of casual gaming, exemplified by the Wii's overwhelming success, signaled a demographic shift, pushing companies to reevaluate their design and marketing strategies. Yet, alongside triumphs came challenges, as evidenced by the Xbox 360's hardware issues. Controversies also emerged, like EA's "Project Ten Dollar" which aimed to curb used game sales but sparked debates about game value. Meanwhile, 2010 marked the indie game scene's further ascent, with initiatives like Humble Bundle and platforms like Kickstarter supporting indie developers. New gaming horizons were also unlocked with motion controls like Kinect and PlayStation Move. This period encapsulated the gaming world's rapid transformation, from the rudimentary games of the early 2000s to the technologically advanced, socially integrated, and diverse landscape of 2010. The industry faced both the excitement of evolution and the challenges of addressing the varied desires of an expanding gamer demographic.Featured Games:Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Demon's Souls, Street Fighter IV, Red Dead REdemption, Mass Effect 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, StarCraft II: WIngs of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ (00:00) - Episode 9 (00:06) - 2009 (29:01) - 2010 Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme

During the mid-to-late 2000s, film fans were breaking down the doors of cinemas all over the world in order to see how new life had been given to the Batman. We're going back to 2009 in order to look at the action-adventure game that became the measuring stick for future comic book games. We're talking Batman: Arkham Asylum. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we look at how a young English developer named Rocksteady Studios was tasked with bringing the story of Batman writer Paul Dini to life. We also discuss how getting the cape right was so important to Brian and all his colleagues, as well as how a singer almost owned Eidos Interactive. In our review, you'll hear some chat on the sameyness of (most) Predator rooms – but also gargoyles with dynamite on them, how Detective Mode is OP, What's The Time Mr. Scarecrow, the rhythmic flow of punching and kicking baddies, the superhero launching himself at said baddies, glove-fixing, combo breakers, learning inverted takedowns on the job, Batman's gadgets that he left in the boot of his car, Metroidvania-ness in an open (space) world, setting up a crime scene without jurisdiction and scanning for Old Country tobacco, awful boss fights and a mohawked Joker, the beauty in the awful of Arkham Island, comic book characters in a comic book world, Christopher Nolan, Mark Hamill's menace and joy, the opening ten minutes, breaking the fourth wall, interview tapes, stellar easter eggs, and Commissioner Jim Gordon's COG-like physique. After all that, the lads take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then they give their final verdicts on whether Batman: Arkham Asylum is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Forbidden Siren on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
