Three more nominees have been added to the Trump cabinet. Brooke Rollins has been confirmed as Secretary of Agriculture, Tulsi Gabbard was confirmed as Director of National Intelligence and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Trump and his administration are already moving at lightning fast speed and these additions will only add to the dynamic, powerful team the president has assembled. Democrats are delaying Kash Patel but we wait in eager anticipation for his confirmation next week. President Trump is naming names, the president promised to release names of individuals that are responsible for wasting hundreds of million and even billions of dollars of taxpayer money. This comes as Elon confirms the magnitude of fraud in federal entitlements, places like Social Security, Medicare, Mediaid, Welfare etc... is larger than the combined sum of every private scam ever heard of! Democrats are looking and acting like they've been hit by lightning as they lack any substantive response and have resorted to name calling. Further proving President Trump's point about a feckless and ineffective federal workforce, a group of federal employees was able to take the day off to go sing songs about DOGE in the park. If their work was anything like their singing, they should be fired. It was another week of the Trump administration steamrolling its way through Washington and our panel brings you the winners and losers of the week! Today Alex and Lisa chat to William Porter, author of Alcohol Explained and Alcohol Explained 2. William started drinking and smoking when he was around 14 years old. In his late teens, in an attempt to stop smoking, he read Allen Carr's Easyway. He was fascinated by his pragmatic and practical approach to what was a confusing and complicated subject. Over the years his drinking steadily increased but he continued to take a common sense analysis of what it was doing to him, coupled with a technical analysis of the chemical, physiological and psychological factors at play. This continued for over a quarter of a century, during which he joined the 4th (Reserve) Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, served a 6 month tour of Iraq, qualified as a lawyer, started a career in the Financial Services sector of the City of London, got married, and had children. His drinking continued to increase until, in February 2014, he finally stopped for good. He now lives with his wife and two children in West London, and continues to work as a lawyer. Today Alex and Lisa chat to Sophie Aghdami, a certified and accredited recovery coach working with people to strengthen and maintain their long term recovery by helping them to feed their ‘good wolf'. Sophie is in recovery from alcohol addiction and now helping others maintain longterm recovery as a coach. She spent a long dark decade (plus some) in the depths of addiction. Successful on the outside in exciting jobs, she was on her deathbed emotionally, spiritually and physically. After waking up one morning during a trip in Indonesia at yet another rock bottom (there were many), she looked in the mirror and didn't recognise herself. A big, puffy, sad moon face stared back at her and her body was physically exhausted from the almighty relapse. She called a family member and was scooped up and ‘poured' into a safehouse. That was the beginning of her recovery journey, which came with its inevitable ups and hard downs, but was also the start of a new life full of joy, meaning and purpose, free from past damaging patterns and behaviours. She believes that the success of maintaining longterm recovery lies in our daily behaviours and mindset, and attributes her recovery to a variety of methods, including a holistic yoga practice, 12 step, self-compassion and forgiveness to release shame, routine, goal setting and forward thinking, and finding my ‘kokorozashi' - personal life purpose and mission. It's a lifelong, courageous practice that she is proud to be committed to. Having grown up in Switzerland and the UK, Sophie now lives in Australia with her husky, Echo. She works as a brand strategist and, separately, as a recovery coach, both of which she loves. On today's episode we speak to our Amy Guerrero. Amy believes “When we stay curious together, we can experience unimaginable freedom.” On a journey to heal her trauma Amy stumbled (pun intended) into a conscious sober lifestyle and my deeper purpose to support people. Today, she supports sober people to heal past traumas to feel more freedom, pleasure & purpose in create healthy relationships & thrive. Amy was confident no single approach to healing and living a conscious sober life would work for her so why would it work for anyone else? She got busy educating herself, training and working with people in somatic experiencing, attachment theory and other trauma-informed modalities and relating it to living a conscious sober lifestyle. What Amy discovers is missing for my clients, who include all adults ready to create healthier relationships, is when we unravel the root causes of the addictive escape such as grief, trauma and painful events from the past, they discover the safety to live with purpose and thrive in all of their relationships. Outside of running her coaching business, Thrive in Recovery, you can find her practicing what she teaches; cooking healthy, delicious food, practicing yoga, playing outdoors and strengthening her connection to herself to serve others. On today's episode we speak to our Bee Sober Cornwall Ambassador, Claire Hatwell. Claire has been sober since September 2016. It took her a long time to get sober, mainly because ‘people like her' didn't have drinking problems. Every night without fail she'd put away two to three bottles of wine by herself, but she kidded myself she was all right, because everyone enjoys a drink, don't they? She could always think of an excuse to make sure she didn't ‘miss out'! Claire says “I didn't think I drank for a particular reason; it seemed a habit, but once I'd stopped, what I found is that alcohol was masking severe anxiety, and instead of just feeling mildly panicky all the time, I began to have panic attacks for no apparent reason. It was awful, but I eventually came out the other side. I've learned that being sober is a great way to live. I'm not missing out, but instead experiencing everything without a filter, and it's great! I guess what I'd say is that I couldn't envisage a life without alcohol, but I am living, breathing proof that it is possible and that it's good. Join us on our season finale where today, Alex and Lisa chat with our Bee Sober Ambassador for men, Oliver Hunter about our new Bee Sober Men's group and his reasons for wanting the space to be available to men in the online community. Oliver came to drinking late. He was very small and often got asked for ID, the embarrassment of this kept him out of pubs until he was 21. After this there was no stopping him. At 27, he was hospitalised and told this was the beginning of organ failure. He is now 16 years sober and enjoys helping others and passing on knowledge and most importantly support. Alcoholism is such a lonely journey, your recovery or comeback or whatever you want to call it doesn't need to be. In fact, the new people you meet will become stronger friends than you've ever known. All of the above has become true for Oliver as well as breaking a family cycle and raising children in a sober happy home is his greatest achievement. Today, Alex and Lisa chat with Laurie McAllister, a life and empowerment coach for sober and sober curious women, yoga teacher and writer of many things. In 2016, she stopped drinking and turned her life around - she now supports other women to do the same through coaching, writing and marketing support for sober businesses. Relocating from London to Norfolk to Cambodia and back to Norfolk, Laurie believes we are all far more capable than we have been led to believe and we are all allowed to change our stories whenever we choose. Behind the scenes she spends more time than she'd like to admit in her pyjamas and likes nothing more than a hot bath and a nice cup of mint tea. This conversation is definitely one you do not want to miss. Whether lighting up the big screen or calling the shots behind the scene, actor, director, producer, and writer Brianne Davis is one of the most electric talents to storm Hollywood by force. She recently wrapped two seasons as series regular in History Channel's "Six" as well as a role in the upcoming season of Netflix's "Lucifer." Originally from Atlanta, Brianne moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Her first lead role came in 2005 with the blockbuster hit Jarhead, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. Her credits include recurring roles on Hulu's "Casual," TNT's "Murder In The First," HBO's "True Blood," as well as FX's "Nip/Tuck," "NCIS: Los Angeles," CBS' "CSI: Miami," ABC's "Desperate Housewives," and HBO's "True Blood." Not only an actor, Brianne is also an accomplished director and producer. Thriving behind the camera, as much as in front, she has produced three films with her production company "Give & Take Productions." She has directed two features: "The Night Visitor 2: Heather's Story" and "Deadly Signal," which premiered at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain. Brianne has over a decade of recovery as a Sex and Love Addict. She currently hosts and produces the popular mental health podcast Secret Life. Brianne is the creator of two female-driven TV Series, "Take Back The Night" and “Secret Life." She's currently pitching them to networks with her producing partner/husband, Mark Gantt. A year into her sober journey, in July 2019 she says she “found the amazing Bee Sober!” It literally changed her journey big time, she had a few sober friends already but they couldn’t always connect when she needed it. Bee Sober became Kath’s tribe. She would go to Manchester for days out, brunch, meals. It was ace! She became an ambassador in August 2020 and really wants others to have the same chance she had! Connection is the opposite of addiction! Kath has recently been diagnosed with ADHD and talks openly about how this has impacted her life and her sobriety. Today, Alex and Lisa chat CiCi Reagan about her addiction to alcohol and how it has impacted her life, her journey to sobriety and how she uses this to helps others through her writing. TRIGGER WARNING: This conversation contains emotional and difficult topics regarding abuse, grief and domestic violence. Cici believes that getting sober is just not drinking. Recovering is another animal. Cici realised that her drinking was a symptom of grieving for her mother and for masking the pain from systematic abuse she’d endured for 7 years. She started to release this pain through writing poetry, short stories, and journal entries during therapy. She wrote during panic attacks, for her 12 step program, for her therapist. She shared what she was going through. CiCi published a poetry anthology and started a community for people like her and has been sharing her story publicly since 2012. Cici believes if she can use her experiences and talents to help others, in a way, that makes what she’s been through worth it. Today, Alex and Lisa chat to one of the Bee Sober Bolton Ambassadors, Irene Wignall about her journey to sobriety, her devastating loss of her son, Dusty, at 27 weeks pregnant and her books. TRIGGER WARNING: This conversation contains emotional and difficult topics regarding miscarriage, stillbirth and grief. Irene started her sober journey December 31st 2018 at 10pm. She had thought about it for months if not years. Alcohol took up too much headspace, was she drinking too much, should she drink this last shot? Once she decided she’d had enough, she severed her unhappy relationship with alcohol, and in doing so her life has changed in so many ways for the better. Today, Alex and Lisa chat to Laura Cook Boldt and Tom Boldt about their book, Unravelled, and their amazing joint journeys as a Mother and Son in recovery. LAURA COOK BOLDT was born and reared in St. Louis, Missouri, and is the daughter of the late Mary Margaret Blair and Howard Winston Cook, both from Jefferson City, Missouri. Married to Tom for thirty-plus years, mother of four grown boys, and sister to a mix of five siblings all currently living in the US, she graduated from Colorado College with a BA in English and continued on to Parsons School of Design in NYC. Laura has also completed courses at Pratt Institute and Washington University. Currently a retired designer, Laura continues to travel, spending most of her time in the mountains of Colorado and with her family. Unraveled, a memoir, is her first book, and she has begun writing another nonfiction book, Bastard by Dawn. THOMAS HENRY BOLDT was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the son of Laura and Tom Boldt and the eldest of his three brothers. He has traveled extensively across many continents for racing, surfing, and exploring. Tom remains close with his brothers and extended family. His current interests include travel, hiking, and snowboarding wherever he can, and he loves anything involving recreation on the water. He is currently living in Orange County, California, and owns and operates a small company nearby. Unraveled is Tom’s first book. WITH INTENSE COURAGE AND CANDOR, mother and son share their raw journey into alcohol and drug addiction and the grueling work it takes to get sober and remain sober. The Boldt family’s love and compassion is palpable as they work their way through deep fear, sleepless nights, and crushing setbacks. This is a riveting portrayal of the agonies of addiction and how one family faced their issues and found a stronger, more sustainable path forward. Many readers will undoubtedly see themselves in these stories and will come away with an abiding sense of hope—not just for Tommy and Laura, but for themselves, too. Brilliant, fresh, and clever, this tandem narrative is a compelling testimony of the bravery and honesty that charts a family’s slow climb out of the abyss of pain and into the full power of faith, redemption, and healing. What are the odds of this? Today, Alex and Lisa chat to Nick Craze about his gambling addiction and his journey to recovery and find surprising similarities between gambling and alcohol addiction. As a ‘rite of passage’, Nick wanted to have a bet for the first time, now that he was able to gamble legally in the UK. The bet paid off and the seeds of his addiction had been sown. After years of destructive gambling and an addiction that Nick describes as “uniquely dangerous” he finally won the battle against his addiction. Nick now raises awareness of gambling addiction across social media, with the aim and intent of reaching both those suffering from, and at risk of, gambling related harm. Nick has embraced the positivity and opportunity of recovery from addiction and is passionate about helping others to do the same. Please check out our website https://www.beesoberofficial.com. Today, Alex and Lisa chat to Bee Sober Ambassador, Laura Henry about life as a single mum, how she stopped drinking and the benefits of sobriety with our usual laughs along the way. Laura joined Bee Sober as an Ambassador back in August 2020. Early in her sobriety she realised she needed a circle of sober friends and reached out to set up Bee Sober Bolton as one half of the team. Laura chose to stop drinking alcohol as it was having a huge effect on her mental health, her relationships, and who she actually wanted to be. Since stopping, her life has changed in every single way for the better. Please check out our new website https://www.beesoberofficial.com. Today, Alex and Lisa chat to Bee Sober Ambassador, Shaena Jasmat about her painful journey to sobriety as a woman of Indian heritage and her amazing transformation. TRIGGER WARNING: Discussions of suicide and abortion. Shaena joined Bee Sober as an Ambassador back in August 2020. She was 6 months in to her new sober lifestyle and wanted to get involved in the sober community and make some sober friends. Shaena’s drinking history is a fairly traumatic and turbulent one as it was closely linked to her poor mental health. Coupled with some difficult life events she found herself hitting rock bottom on more than one occasion. In February 2020 she knew that if she wanted things to change it was down to her to make those changes. So, she said goodbye to the booze, worked very hard on her mindset and quite literally started her life over. She now is a mindset coach helping other women who face similar challenges recognise their self-worth and make the necessary changes to live a happier life just as she’s doing. Today Alex and Lisa speak to Emma Cambell, Aka Limitless Em about her incredible journey of recovery from breast cancer and how she coped living with someone who was alcohol dependent on is own amazing journey to recovery. Em is an author, columnist, speaker and long term cancer thriver. She is known on social media as @limitless_em – a handle she adopted following her third cancer diagnosis in 2019 to serve as a daily reminder to myself that we are all ‘limitless’ and capable of so much more than we often realise. She is passionate about showing that it’s possible to live a big, bold and expansive life despite living with a chronic illness. Her memoir, ‘All That Followed – A Story Of Cancer, Kids And The Fear Of Leaving Too Soon’ was published in August 2018 and charts the story from the birth of her triplets to dealing with breast cancer as a single mum of four and how the anxiety and fear of recurrence impacted so heavily on her life until she began to find a way to look at her circumstances through a different lens. Along with consciously practicing gratitude and being mindful that the thoughts and words we use in every day life have an energy behind them, running has also become one of the wellbeing ‘resources’ she draws on. Alongside the obvious physical benefits, the improvement to her mental and emotional health has been enormous. Em writes a regular column for Women’s Running Magazine , is a proud member of the ‘Celebrate You’ team for the Vitality 10K and recently completed the 2020 40th London Marathon. Today, Alex and Lisa chat to Emily Syphas about sober socialising, and sober sex with lots more juicy bits in between. Emily founded Sober & Social in 2018. Sober & Social is a brand and community that supports those wanting to explore and lead a teetotal lifestyle. Their core ethos is to empower, encourage and celebrate living your healthiest and happiest life. The community was founded on the basis that going alcohol free shouldn’t mean missing out or having to compromise on your social life. Emily is passionate about changing the way society perceives the way we should drink. She thinks if less people drink alcohol we would have better mental health, less crime, more hospital beds, less days off work, feel more motivated, sleep better, make better food choices and overall, we would be kinder to each other and love each other more. Today Alex and Lisa speak to Dawn Comolly, Aka Sober Fish about her sober story, how we think without a voice in our heads, walking, and people who see words as colours (a type of synesthesia). Here is Dawn’s story: “After a sobriety article popped up in my newsfeed in the summer of 2016, I decided to take a year off alcohol in 2017 and blog about my journey. However, after an incredible 6 months off the sauce which transformed my life completely, I decided never to drink alcohol again. I now manage my blog, 2 membership groups and a greeting card and clothing range, as well as running sober challenges to support people in their quest for an alcohol-free life”.
