It's our first "Short Rant," where we'll relate current events to history! These are videos posted on our YouTube and TIkTok accounts and the audio will be available here within a day.President Trump announced "Liberation Day" on April 2, 2025 with broad and sweeping tariffs that are causing stock market panic and layoffs even in the earliest days. His case for high tariffs are good policy are based on his admiration for the 25th President, William McKinley. But Trump is either ignorant of or lying about the truth about American tariff policies in the late 19th century. If history is any predictor of future events, bad things are in store both for the economy and to Republicans' future electoral chances.

Second Rodeo is back... as a book club? Join us each week as we recap one chapter at a time of one of Callie's all-time favorite books, C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorce. This week we're joined by Jillian Howell, who helped with the creation of this season's theme and who is no stranger to Lewis (or as his friends called him, Jack). Together, Jillian and Callie introduce listeners to C.S. Lewis's life and writings, and then dive into the preface of the book. For new episode updates, follow Second Rodeo on Instagram @second_rodeo_podcast and like the Facebook page. Happy listening, and more importantly, happy trails! -- Full text of the poem read by Jillian: Master, they say that when I seemTo be in speech with you,Since you make no replies, it's all a dream— One talker aping two. They are half right, but not as theyImagine; rather, ISeek in myself the things I meant to say,And lo! the wells are dry. Then, seeing me empty, you forsakeThe Listener's role, and throughMy dead lips breathe and into utterance wakeThe thoughts I never knew. And thus you neither need replyNor can; thus, while we seemTwo talking, thou art One forever, and INo dreamer, but thy dream. "Prayer" - C.S. Lewis

This week Josh and Paula have been travelling through the same Rusty Lake game, while exploring other strange worlds and stretching their brains into recursive logic and world-wide disease manipulation. It's been a bit of a week. However, all that is nothing compared to HLTB meeting an impressive milestone and prompting a discussion about how our hosts came to the site and how they use it. Finally there's an absolute classic on the table for the guessing game… but is Josh's brain still working well enough to figure it out? There's only one way to know!
