Because one show is not enough, the Boulder Punch duo brings you BOULDER PUNCH WATCHPARTY! Tune in as Alec and Brian commentate over various movies and TV shows, whether they love them, hate them, or feel generally okay about them!
YOU'LL BELIEVE A MAN CAN FLY! We are five weeks out from the next iteration of the man of tomorrow, which means it's time to go back to where it all began -- not only for him, but for comic book movies as a whole! This classic that introduced Christopher Reeve to the world changed the landscape of blockbuster filmmaking forever, but does it still hold up? Join Brian and Alec to find out as they begin the Supermanathon with the film that defined the character -- Richard Donner's SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE!
LIVE AND LEARN! After the massive success of Sonic 2 -- and with the promise of Shadow in the next one -- fans were eagerly awaiting to see what Fowler and co. would cook up next. The answer was a banger. Yeah, that's it. What, you want another long rambling backstory on the film? Shut up and join Brian and Alec as they revisit what might be the best Sonic film yet -- SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3!
LET'S. GET. BRICKED. For the past fifteen years, Minecraft has risen to being and has remained as one of the most popular games in the world. As Hollywood does, a film adaptation was soon commissioned, and was passed around between different directors before finally landing at the feet of Jared Hess -- director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. You'd think this would allow him to flex his comedic prowess. You'd think this would ensure the movie being decent. You would be wrong. So, come join Brian, Alec, and special guests Darby (@gwenstacying) and Trey (@HeyGuysItSpidey) as they take a look at the first movie requiring brainrot to be enjoyed -- A MINECRAFT MOVIE!
THE END OF THE IMPOSSIBLE! As we gear up for the (supposed) end of this saga, thus do we reach the end of our marathon. After Fallout, Cruise and McQuarrie sought to top the double whammy they previously released with an all-new one -- a two-parter to close out the nearly-thirty-year franchise. However, a worldwide pandemic, numerous delays, a whole lot of money over the initial budget, and a bad release window kept things from rocketing off immediately. Nearly two years later, how does the beginning of the end still fare? Come join Brian and Alec before you see THE FINAL RECKONING to find out as they finish Marathon: Impossible with what used to be called a Part One -- MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING!
"WHAT'S DONE IS DONE, WHEN WE SAY IT'S DONE." After the success of Rogue Nation proved that the franchise had long enough legs to keep going, Christopher McQuarrie signed on to direct the next film -- a first for the franchise. What resulted was what many consider to be not only the best Mission: Impossible film, but one of the best action films in recent memory overall. Time to lock in. Come join Brian and Alec as they continue Marathon: Impossible with the (as-of-now) peak of the franchise -- MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT!
"DESPERATE TIMES, DESPERATE MEASURES." After the massive success of Ghost Protocol, Tom Cruise and the world regained their love for impossible missions, and a sequel was greenlit not long after. However, many were skeptical as it turned out that Brad Bird wouldn't be returning -- and that the director's chair would be taken by Christopher McQuarrie. Nobody could've seen it coming that not only would McQuarrie meet expectations, but launch his own tetralogy as the only director to stick around with the franchise. So, after nearly ten years, how does his first outing hold up? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they continue Marathon: Impossible with the beginning of the series' second half -- MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION!
THUS BEGIN THE CRUISE DEATH WISHES! Despite M:I3 feeling like a pretty definitive end, Tom Cruise and co. decided to go ahead with a fourth film over five years later. Going into it, no one expected really much of anything -- especially when sequels after an initial trilogy rarely ever succeeded. What followed was a pop cultural milestone that not only revitalized the franchise, but Cruise's place in it as well. So, how does it hold up? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they continue Marathon: Impossible with the unforgettable MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL!
NOW THE FRANCHISE BEGINS. The first two films in the Mission: Impossible franchise felt like polar opposites when it came to tone, style, and so on. While many people like to accredit the franchise's flourishing with the fourth entry, it was the third that truly set the stage for the series, not only in terms of the above factors, but in terms of Ethan Hunt as a character. This is arguably the most underrated entry aside from the first, and we're here to tell you why it's worth revisiting. So, come join Brian and Alec as they continue Marathon: Impossible with J.J. Abrams' directorial debut -- MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III!
SPY KIDS IF IT WAS BAD. After the first film reveled in its high-tension spy-thriller identity, one would assume Tom Cruise's next impossible mission would delve further into that. Instead, he created the most Divorced Dad movie to ever exist. Oh boy. Come join Brian and Alec as they continue Marathon: Impossible with the surprisingly bad and even more surprisingly boring MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II!
WELCOME TO MARATHON: IMPOSSIBLE! We've had a good stretch of time these past several months without an extensive marathon, so it was high time to dive into a new one. The Mission: Impossible franchise has been a favorite among moviegoers for the past thirty years, with its final entry set for later next month. And with seven films to go through, it's time for us to look back and see how this franchise reached the heights it ascended to today. So, come join Brian and Alec as they take a look back at all of Tom Cruise's craziest death wish productions -- starting with the very first MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE!
WILDCATS, GETCHA HEAD IN THE GAME! It is our last track before we hunker down into a few marathons from now until the end of July, and we're going out in a big way. Any kid who grew up at any age in the mid-late 00's vividly remembers the three Disney Channel films that made a big splash in pop culture, launched the careers of several newcomers, and sought to teach a new generation to not embrace the status quo and branch out into new passions. And maybe they tell that story the exact same way three times, but who cares, right? So, nearly twenty years after the first film, how does this trilogy still fare? Come join Brian, Alec, and special guest Darby (@gwenstacying) to find out as they revisit a few beloved childhood classics -- the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL trilogy!
THIS IS (NOT) THE END. We were hoping to do this one right before the release of Saw XI. Unfortunately, numerous obstacles have made it appear to be game over for one of our favorite horror franchise (though recent reports say otherwise), thus we decided to record this The Saw franchise has had its ups and downs, with the low points being more recent and arguably more plentiful, but the tenth film in the franchise shot new life and appreciation into John Kramer's arm. Is it as good as we remember? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they revisit one of their favorite recent horror films -- SAW X!
"OH, JARNATHAN!" Twenty-five years ago, the first attempt at a Dungeons & Dragons movie was released. Unfortunately, not even Jeremy Irons' funny little dragon call could save it. Twenty-three years later, the second attempt was released -- one that succeeded and was lauded for its senses of fun, heart, and love for the game. Unfortunately, it got released right after another big franchise's seemingly-final entry hit theaters -- thus, not attracting as many audiences as it should've. We're here to tell you, we should've had three of these by now. So, come join Brian and Alec as they take a look at one of 2023's most underrated films -- DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES!
"MEMORIES BRING BACK, MEMORIES BRING BACK YOU." We thought that Kraven was the last Sony Marvel movie we had to watch. We were wrong. Though we may have covered it in an episode of the main show back when it first released, we have yet to tackle the third live action Eddie Brock adventure for this one until now. Is it truly as bad as we remember? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they bid good riddance to Sony's Marvel universe with VENOM: THE LAST DANCE!
"I'M GOING TO GET SICK." Long before the days of Blade, X-Men, and Spider-Man, Marvel films were borderline nonexistent. Only a handful got made, and none on the theatrical level of endeavors such as Superman: The Movie or Batman 1989. One such endeavor was the Yugoslavian-produced venture based on Marvel's Star Spangled Man with a Plan. The film has become subject to jest and ridicule over the years, and it's time to kick the dead horse yet again. So, come join Brian, Alec, Trey, and Darby as they take a look at Albert Pyun's CAPTAIN AMERICA!
WHAT'S THE POINT OF BEING ALIVE? While Joker was one of 2019's most successful films, it was also one of its most divisive. While many clamored for a sequel, others believed this version told its story and needed no further exploration, and anything more would only show how shallow that film was. Turns out, Todd Phillips is in the camp of the latter as he made a whole movie about that very fact. The sequel, ironically, was one of 2024's worst-performing tentpole films, as well as one of the most maligned sequels in recent memory. The reasons for the hatred vary between whether or not you liked the first, and we have a whole lot to say as the camp who didn't. So, come join Brian and Alec as they put themselves through another two hours of suffering with Todd Phillips' JOKER: FOLIE À DEUX!
WE GOT NOTHING. For all intents and purposes, the Sony Marvel Universe is finally dead and buried. No new projects on the horizon, and rumors about Spider-Man 4 being a big crossover between the two franchises seem to be in doubt. So, because we have to, it's time to take a look at the final nail in the coffin. Come join Brian, Alec, and special guest Darby (@gwenstacying) as they take a look what very well may be Sony's worst Marvel movie -- KRAVEN THE HUNTER!
"THAT'S MY LINE." Well over a hundred commentary tracks since we first started this show in 2022, and we have yet to do a full-blown musical (the Persona 5 stage show doesn't count, shut up). That is, until now! One of the most popular musicals of all time -- if not THE most popular -- has finally made its way to the big screen. Well, halfway, that is. With its second and final act premiering later this year, the boys and friends have decided to dive into its monumental first theatrical half. So, come join Brian, Alec, and special guests Darby (@gwenstacying) and Trey (@HeyGuysItSpidey) as they take a look at the first film adaptation of the musical that's had the world in a vice grip for nearly 22 years -- WICKED!
"THERE'S SO MANY F#&*ING RULES." Amongst the abyss of Hollywood live action anime adaptations that have languished in development hell for the past twenty-five years, one that was expedited was a new take on one of the most popular and highly-acclaimed manga and anime of all time -- Death Note. What resulted from this was a film that got dropped from its theatrical distributor, picked up by Netflix, and completely warped everything that made the original work. Tale as old as time. So, come join Brian, Alec, and special guest Darby (@gwenstacying) as they take a look at one of the most hated live action anime/manga adaptations of all time -- Adam Wingard's DEATH NOTE!
SAY THE LINE, SAM! Now that they're in the new year, and with many weeks to go before their next marathon, the boys have decided to take a look at random films they've been itching to commentate over, both old and new. One such film is a genuine marvel as to how it got made, and could very well be considered the original meme movie. Come join Brian and Alec as they revisit all the good, bad, and ugly of the 2000's with SNAKES ON A PLANE!
"GET THE CROWN, SAVE THE TOWN, AND MR. KRABS!" Happy 2025! To kick off the year, the boys figured it was high time to watch a film they forgot to watch two years ago! Like many people their age, SpongeBob was an enormous staple of their childhoods, made even bigger due to its classic theatrically-released film. So, to celebrate the movie's (belated) twentieth anniversary, come join Brian and Alec as they revisit one of their favorite childhood films -- THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE!
HARRISON FORD WAS RIGHT. There are many things about Star Wars that live in infamy. The Phantom Menace, The Rise of Skywalker, the Ewok movies, the fanbase, the list goes on. However, one might reign supreme above them all... except for the fanbase, there's no topping that. While the writing process was full-steam ahead for The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas and co. decided to produce a holiday special to tide over audiences and keep the franchise fresh in their minds. What resulted was a piece of media so bad that even George Lucas himself is ashamed of it. How bad could it truly be? Come celebrate the holidays with Brian and Alec to find out as they take a look at the accursed STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL!
WHY IS THIS ACTUALLY GOOD? Despite everything going against it, the first Sonic movie ended up being a big hit with fans and audiences. Going forward, there were two paths the filmmakers could've walked in response to it: venturing further away from the material, or embracing it even harder. Thankfully, Fowler and co. did the latter, as the sequel that arrived two short years later brought about so much more for fans to adore -- while also being surprisingly wholeheartedly good. How did this happen? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they prepare for the third installment by diving into SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2!
"THAT WAS AN ILLEGAL LEFT, BY THE WAY." While it is the holiday season, an even more important festivity is on the horizon that we must prepare for. Sonic has had a checkered history across the board, with a loud and often-unsatisfied fanbase and projects that are seemingly cursed to be divisive or written off altogether. One such project was the live action movie, its first trailer living in infamy for its out-of-date style and historically off-the-mark design for its titular character -- so much so that they delayed the movie to fix it. The final design was warmly accepted, but is the movie itself any god outside of that? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they gear up for Sonic 3 by revisiting where it all started with Jeff Fowler's SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!
"THIS IS JUST LIKE GUILTY CROWN" - ROGER EBERT Happy Holidays everyone! 2024 is finally winding down, and it's time to spread some of that cheer! We've all had our favorite and least favorite films to watch during the most wonderful time of the year, but what happens when revisiting a classic reveals its true terrifying uncanniness? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they take a magical and unnerving ride on Robert Zemeckis's THE POLAR EXPRESS!
HE JUST LIKE US FR! With a lot of films pushed back due to the 2023 strikes, the coveted month of May saw an unusual dry spell of big blockbusters, one that hadn't been seen since the pandemic. However, one movie managed to nab the first weekend slot that Disney had the monopoly on for four years -- David Leitch's The Fall Guy. This film didn't receive a whole lot of commercial buzz around the time in spite of its release date, but what exactly were people missing out on? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they dive into a tribute to the unsung heroes who take the hard hits on sets -- THE FALL GUY!
"REMEMBER: YOU ARE ONE." One of Alec's most anticipated movies he saw at the film fest has been sweeping the globe, with critics and audiences raving about its performances, commentary, and grotesque horror. It ended up being his favorite film of the year, and now that it's out on digital, there's only one thing left to do. So, come join Alec as he introduces Brian to one of 2024's best films -- THE SUBSTANCE!
SANG-HWA THE GOAT! We're finally back from our hiatus, and things are pretty dire right now, all things considered. So, time to crack into our not-Halloween special to distract from it all! Zombie movies have been seen as passé for a while, but something about this film seemed to strike such a chord that more and more started popping up in recent years. So, how did they do it? Come join Brian to find out as he introduces Alec to a world of horror, raw power, and endless pain in TRAIN TO BUSAN!
"KNOCK KNOCK, LET THE DEVIL IN!" After many years of trying and failing, and despite just having started a working relationship with Marvel via a new take on Spider-Man, Sony's (let's be honest, Avi Arad's) dream of making a solo film of Eddie Brock's darker half finally came true in 2018. Despite being critically panned to hell and back and being an absolute mess that didn't exactly know what it wanted to be, the movie was a box office success and gained something of a cult following via the one thing that resonated with people -- the romcom angle of Eddie and the symbiote. With the supposed final chapter just around the corner, is there a chance that two resident Sony haters missed something all those years ago? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they revisit the divisive film adaptation of VENOM!
"WHAT, YOU'VE NEVER BEEN SHOT IN QUEENS?" In preparation for Venom: The Last Dance next week, the boys realized it was time to take a look at the two SPUMC movies that they have yet to watch on the show. First up on the chopping block: somehow still in contention for one of the worst movies of the year. Everyone collectively laughed when the Madame Web movie was announced in 2019, and it was even more of a shock that it actually got made. Sony defenders insist these movies have a place in being a throwback to 2000's shlock, but is it truly worth it? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they brave a storm of bad acting, writing, CGI, and ADR with MADAME WEB!
WE'RE NOT DONE YET... The Tomorrowthon may be over, but we still have one overdue bad DC animated movie to conquer before we can see the light of day. Last year, we watched one of the most bizarre crossovers culminate in a boring, confusing, and straight up weird Part One, and now it's time to see how this rotten cookie crumbled. So, come join Brian, Alec, and special guest Darby (@gwenstacying on Twitter) as they venture into the poorly-rendered realm of DC and Rooster Teeth's JUSTICE LEAGUE x RWBY: SUPER HEROES AND HUNTSMEN - PART TWO!
IT'S OVER... The boys have finally reached the end of another marathon. They are exhausted. They have lived. They have died. They will never be the same again. Come join Brian and Alec as they finish off the TOMORROWTHON by suffering through the unbearable JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS TRILOGY!
IT'S ALMOST OVER... With five movies left to go and only two slots left to watch them in, we're pulling double duty once again. This time, the Tomorrowverse is bringing two different team-up movies, and both are boring and bad in their own unique ways! You all know the drill, it's time to lose our sanity. Come join Brian and Alec as they continue the TOMORROWTHON with two of the most bizarre projects yet, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES and JUSTICE LEAGUE: WARWORLD!
LET ME OUT OF HERE! We are now halfway through the Tomorrowthon, and this ordeal is not getting any easier. Next up on the docket, a movie about John Stewart. This HAS to be hard to make bad, right? We're gonna be back on the upswing with this one, right? Right? Oh, god. Come join Brian and Alec as they suffer through the other bad Green Lantern movie -- GREEN LANTERN: BEWARE MY POWER!
BATMAN SAYS "NO GIRLS ALLOWED!" The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale is considered to be one of the best Batman stories of all-time, with many citing how it not only streamlined the origin of villains like Two-Face, but told a perfect story of the fall of the mob and the rise of the supervillains in Gotham. Making an animated film (or in this case, films) adapting it in full seemed like a no-brainer, especially in regards to streamlining certain aspects. However, this is the Tomorrowverse, so there is no way it's going to go well. Come join Brian and Alec as they continue the TOMORROWTHON with the one-step-forward-two-steps-back adaptation of the bunch, BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN PART I & II!
FEATURING DEATH BELLS LOUD ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU TINNITUS! After the relative success of Man of Tomorrow, the new DC Animated Universe continued with its next project: a period piece about the Justice Society. Unfortunately, between an out-of-place character, bizarre plot twists, a nameless villain, and a complete tonal 180, this might not have been the go-to. Come join Brian and Alec as they continue the TOMORROWTHON with the painfully bizarre JUSTICE SOCIETY: WORLD WAR II!
THE TOMORROWTHON BEGINS... A few months ago, Alec and Brian made a deal. If Brian managed to watch all of Future Diary for an episode of the main show, Alec would agree to doing a marathon of DC's maligned Tomorrowverse of animated films, ending with the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. Brian held up his end of the bargain, and now Alec must pay the piper. The introduction to this weird little universe was seen as a much-needed improvement compared to its predecessor, but does that still ring true? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they begin the TOMORROWTHON with 2020's SUPERMAN: MAN OF TOMORROW!
"THERE ARE NO SIDES." After the uphill battle toward success proved fruitful, Denis Villeneuve and co. announced that the second half of Dune was on the way, alleviating the fears of many moviegoers. Despite delays due to Hollywood refusing to pay actors and writers, the film finally made it to the silver screen this past March. So, after all the set-up of the first film, how does the rest of the story land? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they saddle up on Shai-Hulud and dive into DUNE: PART TWO!
"MY DESERT. MY ARRAKIS. MY DUNE."Onto the next hundred tracks, and what better way to start off than a two-parter? Frank Herbert's Dune is considered to not only be one of the best sci-fi novels of all time, but one of the most influential pieces of storytelling, influencing the likes of Star Wars and countless others. For many years, Hollywood has tried and failed to bring this deconstruction of the hero's journey to the big screen, until Denis Villeneuve took a gamble in adapting the first half before going on to the rest. The first chapter of his take on the classic novel hit theaters to mass acclaim and success, but does the film still hold up -- both on its own and now with its second half? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they journey into Arrakis with DUNE: PART ONE!
HAPPY 100th TRACK EVERYONE!Hard to believe we've already reached our one-hundredth commentary track on the show. The past two years have been a crazy journey, and we thank you all for sticking with us. To celebrate, it's time to cover a movie we've been waiting eight months to dive into. The latest outing of the King of the Monsters from Toho has been one of their most widely acclaimed and successful, even taking home the Oscar for Best VFX. Does this harrowing tale of survivor's guilt in the form of a giant lizard still hold up? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they celebrate one-hundred commentary tracks with one of the best films of 2023, GODZILLA MINUS ONE!
EVERYONE'S FAVORITE TOXIC YAOI RETURNS! After the release of Godzilla vs. Kong managed to exceed the tempered expectations of a pandemic release back in 2021, many wondered when -- or if -- we'd see the MonsterVerse return. After a dry spell of news, the masses finally heard that Godzilla and Kong would indeed return to team up against new foes in a brand new entry. So, after three years of waiting, how did this monumental return to the world of the Titans fare? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they take a look at GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE!
DUBSTEP NEVER DIES! After the monumental success of the first film, a Deadpool sequel was quickly put in development. Set to be bigger, bolder, and louder, this film marks the first live-action appearances of characters such as Cable and Domino, as well as a shift toward the "Sad Clown" aspect of Wade's character in the comics. While the film still did well critically and commercially, people had a notion for years that it was a step down from its predecessor, but is that truly the case? Before you go see DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, come join Brian and Alec to find out as they wrap up the X-MENATHON with the second chapter of the Merc with a Mouth's trilogy -- DEADPOOL 2!
MAXIMUM EFFORT After the failure of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and five years of development hell, test footage for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool film leaked online in 2014. Unable to ignore the overwhelmingly positive reception, the film was finally given the greenlight, with all the bells and whistles it asked for - a bloody R-rated comedy more faithful to the comics. Upon release, it was a monumental success and changed the game for what could be done in CBMs, as more studios recognized the R-rating as something that can still be profitable. But that was then, and this is now, so how do the film's specific comedic stylings hold up nowadays? Come join Alec and Brian to find out as they continue the X-MENATHON with the beginning of a new trilogy -- DEADPOOL!
NEVER ASK A WOMAN HER AGE, A MAN HIS SALARY, OR JOSH BOONE WHAT HE THINKS OF MINORITIES. As they started winding down on mainline X-Men films, as well as noticing the success of spin-offs such as Deadpool and Logan, Fox decided the next era to pivot towards would feature none other than the ragtag team of superpowered youths, the New Mutants. What seemed like an easy slam dunk turned far more interesting as the initial trailer promised something very different in the modern CBM landscape: a full-on superhero horror film. Unfortunately, it was the reception to it that spurred the studio to delay the film by two and a half years over time with the promise of reshooting to further emphasize the horror tone.... despite those reshoots never happening. The movie, after finally being sent out to die as a pandemic theater release, has been lambasted by critics and fans alike, and now it's our turn to beat the dead horse. So, come join Brian and Alec as they continue the X-MENATHON with Josh Boone's dull, half-baked, and bizarrely racist adaptation of THE NEW MUTANTS!
HE HAD A CHANGE OF HEART! Despite Apocalypse positioning itself as the end of the mainline X-Men films, closing the loop and establishing the team in full, certain people were keen on scratching a certain itch to perform one last magic trick -- rectifying The Last Stand and making an accurate adaptation of The Phoenix Saga. Amidst year-and-a-half long road to Disney buying out Fox, futures being up in the air, producers stepping in to make the movie themselves, what resulted is not only the (as-of-now) last X-Men movie... but possibly the absolute worst overall. As we wind down in the final month of the X-MENATHON, come join Brian and Alec as they suffer through one of the blandest films they've ever sat through for the show -- X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX!
"DON'T BE WHAT THEY MADE YOU." In 2015, Hugh Jackman announced that the third Wolverine movie would be his last ride as the mutant (obviously this particular comment hasn't aged well). Many didn't know what to expect, but excitement grew as it came out that not only would it be loosely based on the Old Man Logan comic -- but that it would finally go all-out brutal with an R-rating. While the movie itself ended up starkly different from the comic, it has become widely-regarded as the best thing the Fox-Verse has ever put out. So, does that still ring true? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they continue the X-MENATHON by revisiting the finale of the Wolverine trilogy and what was supposed to be Hugh Jackman's last bearing of the claws -- James Mangold's LOGAN!
"CHECK OUT THOSE SUITS-- AAAND THEY'RE GONE." Months before Days of Future Past released, the third film in the trilogy was set for May 2016 -- and confirmed to center around Apocalypse, the oldest and most powerful mutant. After DOFP's massive success, reports that this would be the biggest and most destructive X-Men movie yet, a whole new slate of spin-off films on the horizon, and beloved characters finally getting time to shine, how could this go wrong? The answer is, of course, a lot of ways -- but is it truly as bad as people have insisted it is? Join Brian and Alec to find out as they continue the X-MENATHON by revisiting the pot-and-kettle of the prequel trilogy -- X-MEN: APOCALYPSE!
"WE NEED YOU TO HOPE AGAIN." After the success of First Class, Matthew Vaughn and Fox reached an impasse in regards to adapting one of the most iconic X-Men stories of all time: Days of Future Past. While he wanted to wait and do it in the third movie, Fox wanted to fast-track it for the second, resulting in him walking. Sure enough, as they wanted, the movie got made -- to mass acclaim and success. This movie was arguably Endgame before Endgame, a culmination of two eras that many -- to this day -- argue should've been the end of Fox's run of X-Men films. Well, ten whole years later (god, I hate saying that), how does it hold up? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they continue the X-MENATHON by revisiting what many consider to be the Children of the Atom's best film -- X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST!
AKA "X-MEN ORIGINS: WEABOO." Despite the historical failure of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 20th Century Fox had a plan in their back pocket -- taking what was supposed to be the original film and producing it as a sequel. This film had its own developmental hell, for a while it was going to be helmed by auteur Darren Aronofsky, while still being yet another prequel. However, once the ball got rolling with director James Mangold, the movie finally got made -- as a continuation of The Last Stand. And while this movie had so much more going for it, the third act unfortunately fell victim to the bad case of "Exec throws a bowling ball onto the chess table during the endgame" its predecessor did. Despite all of this, how does the movie hold up eleven years later? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they revisit the less-talked about and highly-underrated middle child of Logan's trilogy -- THE WOLVERINE!
"PEACE WAS NEVER AN OPTION." After the colossal failure of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fox was stumped as to what to do with their next project in the XMO pipeline that centered around Magneto. Since the original script heavily featured Xavier, as well as the fallout between the two former friends, the studio decided to scrap the subseries entirely and begin a new trilogy of prequels -- starting with much of the same stuff from the original Magneto script. This film has been hailed as the best top-to-bottom X-Men movie to this day, but how does it hold up after thirteen years? Come watch with Brian and Alec to find out as they continue the X-MENATHON with the beginning of a new (or old) era -- X-MEN: FIRST CLASS!
ONE OF THE MOST INFAMOUS CBMs OF ALL TIME! After the original trilogy puttered out with the disappointment of The Last Stand, Fox decided the best course of action was to start a new series of solo films about significant X-Men characters, and who better to kick them off than the ever-popular Wolverine? Well, with the original Japan-based project getting scrapped, the decision to extend the Weapon X origin to an entire film, and one of the most notorious cases of production troubles and studio meddling, you get a recipe for a disaster even bigger than its predecessor. So, come watch with Brian and Alec as they revisit one of the biggest misfires to come from the past 20 years of CBMs -- X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE!
