The biggest money question we have is usually: How do I enjoy my life now and plan for enjoying it later? If we go too far in either direction, we're sacrificing the quality of our lives at one point or another. So does the “perfect” save rate exist that optimizes for both now and the future? And if so, what is the ideal percentage of our income to save that would work for most people, most of the time? Here's the number I landed at, and why. Leading Less is More Like it in Lubbock (Part Two) has just been promoted to manager but they don't actually want to lead or manage anyone. They're now “leading” a team of seven people. Their philosophy has always been that the leader is less important than the doer and that the people should just do their job well without interference from a manager. How can they get their new team to think more like them and at the same time not lead them down the path to do so?Eye on the Prize in Toronto has been identified as a “high potential” in their company and was selected for an elite internal leadership program. The program runs for two years and consists of spending 4 to 6 months in different divisions. The problem? Not every division is very welcoming—in fact, some of them are downright hostile. Is there a way to change these sour attitudes and carve a better path for the “future leaders” who will follow them? Not So Happy One Hour Later in St. Louis is a manager who may have made a serious faux pas. After a long week of late nights working on a client deliverable, they treated their team to an extended happy hour. After one too many drinks, Not So Happy said a few negative things about the client and their boss. Neither of those individuals was present, but the rest of the team was there. Is there a difference between being a manager and a leader? We tend to use them synonymously, but they're not the same! Managers tend to be in the work and leaders are more of the work. But great managers must be leaders and great leaders need to have management skills, too.In this episode, Mary and Chris help listeners learn how to beef up their managerial and leadership skills!El Hefe La Chica en Chicago is a first-generation Mexican American female and the first in her family to graduate from college. She has just been promoted to manager at a popular casual dining chain. She wants to do everything in her power to come off as a strong leader and make a great first impression. How can she do that? What should she do when she meets her new team to start off on the right foot?Management One, Leadership Zero in Zion works for a great manager but a lousy leader. They work with him daily and he's clear, thorough, thoughtful, and organized. He does everything a good manager should do…so, what's the problem? He doesn't have a strong leadership presence. When he speaks at big meetings, he's soft-spoken, clearly nervous, and he sounds anything but confident and decisive. Can they help him be perceived as a better leader or is that not their problem? According to an APA 2022 Stress in America Survey, 87% of respondents listed inflation as a source of significant stress—and the researchers say no other issue has caused this much stress since the survey's launch. Money anxiety or "financial fear" is common, and to an extent, it can be healthy. If fear about inflation and running out of money prevents you from blowing every dollar on fast casual dining, and instead urges you to save and invest for the future, that fear directly benefits Future You. But if fear prevents you from investing in the stock market because it feels too risky, well…now we're letting misplaced, data-refuted concerns interfere with our ability to build wealth over time. Understanding your own deeply held beliefs and fears about money can help unlock your next-best step, and it's not one-size-fits-all. We're joined by Mariel Beasley, Principal at the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University and Co-Founder of the Common Cents Lab (https://advanced-hindsight.com/commoncents-lab/) to discuss financial psychology and what behaviors we can unlearn (or double down on) when it comes to money anxiety. — Mentioned in the Episode Download the free Money Management Routine resource: https://education.morningbrew.com/budget Farnoosh Torabi's So Money: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1348-how-fear-can-drive-financial-excellence-with/id955939085?i=1000558577525 The importance of an abundance mindset: https://moneywithkatie.com/blog/shifting-your-money-mindset-from-scarcity-to-abundance "Risk is what you don't plan for": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM-s_HxLzNY ChooseFI: https://www.choosefi.com/listen/choose-fi-podcast/ Why Hitting "Half FI" is More Like 75%: https://moneywithkatie.com/blog/why-hitting-half-fi-is-more-like-75 Financial resources mentioned: LISC, Digit, Qapital — Follow Along - Listen to Money with Katie here: https://www.podpage.com/money-with-katie-show/ - Read Money with Katie: https://moneywithkatie.com/ Follow Money with Katie! - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/moneywithkatie/ - Twitter: https://twitter.com/moneywithkatie - TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@moneywithkatie Subscribe to Morning Brew - Sign up for free today: https://bit.ly/morningbrewyt Follow The Brew! - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/morningbrew/ - Twitter: https://twitter.com/MorningBrew - TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@morningbrew

Power Rangers TTRPG from Renegade Games Studios Episode Introduction Brandon pretty much goes full nerd in this one. He doesn't get a ton of opportunities to talk about Power Rangers and Super Sentai, though, so give him a break. This week he and Josh review Renegade Games Studios' new "Power Rangers Roleplaying Game" which, if you needed a hint, is based on the classic Power Rangers franchise, specifically the first six seasons from the 1990s. It originally was supposed to use the Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition system, but the developers made a late change and created their own system instead, but it still feels a lot like 5e. There are ups (relatively simple to get started) and downs (sloppy production) to this game, but it's worth checking out if you're a fan of Power Rangers. Do you own it? Have you run a game yet? Welcome to Season 3 of the Sisterhood Works podcast. Now, if you aren’t one of the millions of people who has watched American model Ashley Graham’s TED talk ‘Plus Size? More Like my Size’, then make sure you watch it. Her words – spoken 6 years ago – are as relevant now as they were then. Ashley Graham is many things. Yes, she’s a supermodel – my gosh is she a supermodel - but she’s also a powerful role model for all women. According to the fashion industry, she’s also plus size (and just so we’re clear – the outstated and frankly insulting label of plus size refers to any woman who is a size US 8 to 16). She’s a businesswoman. She’s a mother to son Isaac. The new face of inclusive Australian fashion label Commonry, which dresses women from AU size 10 to 22 in fit-driven, fashion-forward clothes. And has one of the best laughs we’ve ever heard. Ashley is like a best friend to her 12m plus followers on Instagram. She’s 100% authentic, which is one of the reasons she’s so likeable. At Allbright, we back women who champion change. We back women who aren’t afraid to speak their minds. Through her campaigning for more body positivity, inclusivity, and diversity in the beauty and fashion industry, Ashley has changed the lives of millions of women around the world (her mother predicted she’d do this as you’ll discover in this episode). In today’s conversation we talk about it all – sisterhood, of course, because that’s at the heart of everything AllBright stands for. We talk about how Gen Z is taking over the world, how to tackle the ‘nos’ in our lives, why the size of our bodies doesn’t dictate our worth, and so much more. Let’s meet our girl crush. Dan and I start the show as we typically would, sending fire straight into your ear holes. Be careful. We touched on the Celtics and their epic collapse in Games 3 and 4 that now have them deadlocked at 2-2 with the Raptors. Then we went into the hot-take environment that has reached new levels in the NBA bubble after every single game. Finally, we wrapped with a new segment on new nicknames for Giannis. Currently he's down 3-1 to the Heat and his team looks like they've got one foot out the door. Soooo…"Greek Freak?” MORE LIKE….well, you'll see Then we got our man Sean Collard @SCollard23 (43,000 Instagram followers, no big deal) on to talk all things MJ and Air Jordan collecting. Sean shared some hilarious memories about growing up in Montreal and how sneaker culture has changed over the years. He also told a great story about how he fell in love with the Air Jordan II specifically and how Grandma Collard helped him copped his first pair of shoes. Then we asked him - are Canadians much less hostile waiting in shoe release lines than shitty Americans are? We also delved into what he wore on court and how dedicated he was to getting each year's release. Shawn is also part of a very popular podcast himself, one which is in direct competition with us. Fortunately we are very nice and would highly suggest you go check them out/subscribe/rate/review - or else. We talked about how he got involved with the show, and about one of their recent episodes that touched on topics from The Last Dance: - Reggie Miller wearing Air Jordans (current guys wearing their opponents' shoes) - Marquee players in today's era wearing different color ways every night in contrast with Jordan wearing 2/3 colors at most - Random obscure players having Player Exclusives compared to the old days when only the best players had shoe deals - The Bulls team feeling like mysterious, mythical rockstars while the modern era is hopping on Instagram Live when they're taking a shit - Dennis Rodman being dragged across the street in his pajamas to get to Bulls practice (hypothetically, but not that far off from reality) We wrapped with some questions about MJ as a stinky team owner, a terrible dresser, and 90s fashion both on and off court. Today I’m talking to several moms with a common thread – questions that don’t really have black and white. Let’s talk about learning to listen to the Lord and what that means from day to day. More Like this From The Busy Mom Three Traits of a Wise Believer – The Bible tells us that there is absolute truth and that it is not relative. Walking that out in faith in our culture today requires much wisdom, but thankfully we know the One who gives generously! Listen in today as we talk about three traits of a wise believer. Knowledge vs. Wisdom (blog post) – As parents, we should be interested in teaching wisdom first, because knowledge without wisdom leads to pride. A listener is asking about my accidental homeschooling status, and it turns out, I’m not the only one ’round these parts! Yvette Hampton is joining me today and we’re talking about why we decided to homeschool and SchoolHouse Rocked, a documentary you won’t want to miss! Yvette Hampton has been married to her awesome husband, Garritt, for 23 years and is beyond blessed to be mom to her two sweet girls. She is the producer and host of the upcoming documentary, Schoolhouse Rocked: The Homeschool Revolution. In the fall of 2016, she and her family sold their home and most of their possessions, loaded up in an RV, and began traveling the country to film Schoolhouse Rocked. They have a passion for the homeschool community and are humbled and honored that the Lord has called them to tell the story of the millions of families who have been impacted by the homeschool revolution. The movie is intended to dispel the many misconceptions and negative stereotypes of homeschooling as well as to encourage and equip parents to take charge of their child’s heart and education. They plan to release Schoolhouse Rocked in theaters in the summer of 2019! To see the movie trailer and find out more visit schoolhouserocked.com. A fascinating paper about sex differences in the human brain was published last week in the scientific journal Cerebral Cortex. It’s the largest single-sample study of structural and functional sex differences in the human brain ever undertaken, involving over 5,000 participants (2,466 male and 2,750 female). The study has been attracting attention for more than a year (see this preview in Science, for instance), but only now has it been published in a peer-reviewed journal. For those who believe that gender is a social construct, and there are no differences between men and women’s brains, this paper is something of a reality check. The team of researchers from Edinburgh University, led by Stuart Ritchie, author of Intelligence: All That Matters, found that men’s brains are generally larger in volume and surface area, while women’s brains, on average, have thicker cortices. ‘The differences were substantial: in some cases, such as total brain volume, more than a standard deviation,’ they write. Many pastors have begun exchanging the truth of God’s Word for the easy “truth” of the world in an effort to be “loving,” except that denying the truth of God is never loving. I have to wonder if those pastors who will not stand on the authority of Scripture care more about winning a popularity contest than they do about speaking the truth. momstronginternational.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/heidistjohn/support

There is only one source of true wisdom, and knowing it will change your life. The only way to be a MomStrong Mom is to know the root of true wisdom! We either believe that Romans 8:28 is true or we don’t believe it. We choose to believe God works all things together for good for those that love Him – or we don’t – and what we choose to believe frames how we see and handle hardships when they come. So listen today and let’s talk through this. Where’s God when it hurts? Every single person, at least once in their life, should climb a mountain. As we quickly approach mountain climbing season out here in Colorado, my inner mountain geek is beginning to get antsy. To appease my own restlessness, I decided to put together a podcast that essentially could be the "intro to climbing a mountain." Specifically a 14er, the biggest mountains in Colorado (though the info could be applied to any mountain I suppose). In essence, if you have never before stepped foot on a mountain, what are the basics that you absolutely should know in order to have a safe, fun experience? If you think summiting a big peak is an absolute impossible task, you are wrong. There are plenty of easier "beginner" peaks that, while still requiring hard work to get up, lack exposure (cliffs) and technical skills (using your hands and actually...climbing). Though easier and less dangerous, there still are plenty of things you should understand going into these hikes as you are above treeline and still in remote wilderness. So I brought in two guests. First up is Scott Stark, last year at this time Scott had only summited one 14er. In the midst of a crazy summer, he spent an insane amount of time above treeline and has now finished over 50 mountains (and 20 some 14ers) ranging from easy (Mt. Elbert) to some of the more difficult (Pyramid Peak). Next is Sean Furlong. Recently Sean has moved from Chicago where he jokingly claimed that he "didn't step foot on grass for 8 years". In this podcast, he's our "newbie". He's excited to take on some big hikes and get up into the mountains this summer, and we put Mt of the Holy Cross on the schedule for July. So we basically fill Sean in on some of the basic information he needs to know in order to have a fun and amazing BUT SAFE experience. In this episode we cover "above treeline concerns", good beginner mountains, what unexpected challenges may arise (aka crappy trailhead roads), how to train and prepare, and a bunch more. NOTE: Take this for what it is…a guide. Scott and I are nowhere near “experts” and are simply sharing our knowledge for what has worked (and not worked) for us in the past. We, of course, are still in the pursuit of knowledge and experience when it comes to big time mountains. NOTE 2: Also, I wanted to record outside because it was a super nice day....and I didn't realize that the wind was hitting the mic every so often. It doesn't screw up the audio too much but you will probably notice it every so often...you live and you learn! Hope you guys enjoy and I really hope this episode inspires some of you to go out and conquer some mountains this summer! "All profound things are preceded and attended by Silence." - Herman Melville This week on the podcast we are honored to bring you wilderness survival expert Alan Kay. Alan was the season one winner of Alone on the History Channel, which is probably the best (aka least reality showish) demonstration of wilderness survival on TV. Ten people were dropped off in separate locations on northern Vancouver Island with minimal supplies, they could quit whenever they wanted, and whoever outlasted the rest was the winner. After 56 days of remote survival; foraging for food, filtering water, building shelter and creating fire in one of more soggy and untamed wildernesses in North America, Alan was declared the winner. More impressive than the physical aspect, he also managed to stave off loneliness as he faced what is a rarity for most of society these days, complete and utter isolation. In this episode, Alan shares how to prioritize your needs in a survival situation, what his mindset was going into the challenge and how focusing only on what he could control led to his success. We also spend a lot of time diving deep into the mindset of isolation. This was a fascinating topic because most of us will never experience complete solitude, especially not for the length of time Alan did. Alan is an educator in wilderness survival, so this podcast also covers various topics such as shelter construction for warmth, how to stay safe in mountain lion country, skills you should learn from previous generations and strategies to stay dry and warm in the wilderness. I really want to thank Alan for chatting with me. It was a fascinating conversation that I'm excited to share with you guys. Also just wanted to give him props for being so open and raw about his experience. How to contact Alan: If you want to book Alan for a survival clinic you can reach him at his website http://alankaysurvival.com or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/alankaysurvival/. He teaches everyone from beginners to more advanced wilderness folks. I truly believe that the skills he promotes are essential skills every single person should have at least a basic understanding of. Booking a class is something I am definitely interested in pursuing in the future.
