It's that most wonderful time of the year and if that wonderful time of the year's special month happens to have it's 13th day fall upon a Friday and that means we might be living in an apocalypse. It also means that it's time to finish up what we started on last September's 13th and talk about the last 6 films, to date, of the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise. Yes, we do call them “films”. Yes, they're mostly horrible. So let's go wrap up Jason's journey which takes him from Crystal Lake to Manhattan, Hell, Dreamworld and outer space 400 years from now. Our six pack episodes tend to pad out our D & F tiers and this one is no exception. I believe Bob states that one of the worst movies discussed yet is in this block. It never gets better with these things. Strap in because we're talking seven minutes at a time about such cult slasher classics as the brutal “FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD” from 1988, the ridiculous “FRIDAY THE PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN” from 1989, the insanity of “JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY” from 1993, the cheesy “JASON X” from 2001, the enjoyable “FREDDY VS. JASON” from 2003 and the surprisingly ok (is it reboot or remake?) “FRIDAY THE 13TH” from 2009 by Marc NIspel. You can hardly imagine how many people Jason has killed over the course of these movies. The online estimation clears 150 total. Rest in Peace, Jason Voorhees. We liked you and your mom but after you've had Pumpkinhead in your life it's just hard to think of any other slasher. Matt and Eric get in the title fight mood for the braw to settle it all - FREDDY VS. JASON! Two horror icons collide in this goofy, fun as heck movie that certainly delivers on its title. Plus, MCU news about another big star returning to the fold for AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and some silly voice casting news re: THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU.
FREDDY VS. JASON brings together two titans of '80s horror: Freddy Kreuger (Robert Englund) and Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger). In a bid to regain his strength through surging fear through the souls of Elm Street, Freddy manipulates Jason to doing some killing on his behalf. However, when Jason starts taking the credit and hacking through more of the available body count, Freddy grows jealous and petty. The fight is on, with a group of teenagers caught in the middle. This movie underwent 17 years of development hell before arriving in theaters. That's 17 years of studios losing and gaining rights to the franchises, installments developed on both sides in lieu of a team-up, a carousel of writers and directors pitching their ideas and ditching the project, and a replacement of one of the most iconic actors to ever don a horror villain's mask. Kane Hodder, you deserve the world. With all this being said, should FREDDY VS. JASON be regarded as a hallmark of the genre? No. It serves best as a sampler of what both franchises have to offer: Freddy's surrealism & sarcasm and Jason's massacring lumbering boogeyman. The CGI effects, emblematic of the time, don't always work. They often elicit a laugh. But given that FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V and FREDDY'S DEAD exist? We could've gotten much worse. The fact this exists in this form is a mini-miracle.A massive thanks to Dakota (To quote Tarantino, he's "a buddy who's more than a brother and a little less than a wife.") for requesting this episode. Get ready for a spine-tingling dive into 1988's cult horror classic Night of the Demons on the latest episode of Parallax Views w/ J.G. Michael! Kicking off the Halloween “spooky season” series, J.G. welcomes Chris MacGibbon of the Spooky Picture Show, a die-hard fan and researcher of Night of the Demons. Chris has delved deep into the film's eerie legacy, speaking with the cast, unearthing behind-the-scenes stories, and contributing to the Blu-ray releases of Night of the Demons and its sequels. Together, they discuss what makes this iconic film—and its sequels and remakes—so unforgettable in horror history. Tune in as they explore everything from the haunting atmosphere and cult following to the demon-filled, blood-curdling thrills that keep fans returning to this Halloween favorite year after year. Among the topics covered: - The making of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988), which was filmed on a low-budget over a few weeks with some of the shooting taking place in gangland territory - The on-set romance between special effects artist Steve Johnson and scream queen Linnea Quigley (who plays Suzanne in the film) after Johnson had to create a mold of Linnea's breasts - Australian director Brian Trenchard-Smith's NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2; although the first movie had comedic elements, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 dove into full-on horror farce territory - The strange and troubled history of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 3 in Canada and its connections to the children's horror TV shows Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps - The rather disliked 2009 remake/reimagining of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS starring American Pie's Shannon Elizabeth, Freddy Vs. Jason's Monica Keena, and Terminator 2's Edward Furlong - How NIGHT OF THE DEMONS director Kevin S. Tenney ended up working on the film after making the cult classic Witchboard - Republic Pictures and the unexpected success of Night of the Demons on the home video market - Amelia Kinkade, the actress who plays the goth-girl-turned-demon-possessed-villain-of-the-series Angela, and her other life as a pet psychic; also discussion of her awesome dance scenes in Night of the Demons and Night of the Demons 2 where she dances to the gothic post-punk band Bauhaus and the death metal band Morbid Angel! - And more!

Here on The Blind Rage Podcast, FRIDAY THE 13TH month comes to an end. Join us as we wrap things up with 2003's FREDDY Vs. JASON, a movie fans of both franchises had been clamoring for. Sadly, what we received wasn't at all worth the wait. FREDDY Vs. JASON is a mishmash of plot holes, weak performances, bad dialogue, and some of the worst one-liners from everyone's favorite charred villain. There are better quips and retorts in FREDDY'S DEAD. Hell, there were better quips on FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES, for God's sake. Though the movie is deeply flawed, to say the least, its biggest sins were filling the shoes of Jason with someone other than Kane Hodder, and having one of Freddy's victims call him what is probably the most offensive of all gay slurs moments before coming face-to-face with her grisly demise. Eesh. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message

Happy Tuesday Christmas fanatics! Apologies again that this episode is dropping a day late, but as you know - life gets in the way at times! Which is also the reason why Thom is absent from this episode and we had to reshuffle our schedule a bit! So while we were originally planning our return to Halloweentown this week, instead, Julia and Anthony continue the show's sojourn through Spooky Season by traveling to Elm Street and Camp Crystal Lake to cover the 2003 Slash of the Titans, "Freddy vs. Jason"! Not only has Julia never seen this movie before, but she's never seen any movie featuring Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees before! Which, of course, makes her the perfect elf to host tonight's show! What does she think of it? Well, you can probably guess - but that doesn't make this episode any less entertaining! Especially since she finds herself at odds with Anthony who unabashedly loves this film! Listen as your two hosts walk you through the plot beat-by-nonsensical-beat, critique the horrific acting, and fill in key pieces of context and history from the two iconic slashers individual franchises as needed! Also discussed: Mike Flanagan's various horror shows; Amazon Prime's new film, "Totally Killer"; the teased "Seinfeld" revival; the Halloween plans of Julia's children; and the end of Anthony's hunt for Hallmark's popular Betty White/Rose Nylund "The Golden Girls" ornament! This is one fun episode you want to be sure not to miss! (As is the bonus episode we dropped in your feeds this past Sunday, so make sure you give that one a download and listen as well!) So settle back with your Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, put your feet up, and enjoy! And, as always, thanks for your love and support y'all! ❤️

Today on Soundtracker--on a Friday the 13th, no less--I'm talking about Jason Voorhees (and Freddy Krueger) as I continue the Halloween theme with FREDDY VS. JASON. And I'm joined once again by Brett Gallman (@brettgallmam, an expert on the film) of Fangoria, Daily Grindhouse, and Oh, The Horror to talk about it. In this episode, we talk about the incredibly long and complicated road to getting this movie made, talk about our favorite rejected screenplays, explain why we're either Team Freddy or Team Jason, the Kane Hodder controversy, the infamous Kelly Rowland ad-libbed line, and the EXTREMELY 2003 nu-metal soundtrack. Check out Brett's stuff on Fangoria here: http://www.fangoria.com/authors/brett-gallman/Check out Oh, The Horror here: http://www.oh-the-horror.com/index.phpCheck out Brett's excellent article on FvJ over on Daily Grindhouse here: http://dailygrindhouse.com/thewire/end-of-an-era-20-years-of-freddy-vs-jason-2003/And if you're a horror fan, contact Brett over on Twitter and pitch some ideas for articles you may have for Daily Grindhouse.Support the show on Patreon! Even though the film was in production hell for well past these franchise's experation dates, the excitement for a Freddy v Jason movie was through the roof. The frenzied anticipation was too much for even these icons of cinema and fair or not, the film fell flat with the fans. Keenly aware that I'm quickly running out of alliterations, we'll simply say this; Freddy v Jason isn't as good as it could have been but it's really not as bad as it's been called. For heavens sake, it's a supernatural slasher, don't take it so damn seriously, bitch. But to make sure we had all our bases covered we invited the hosts of CinemaSlab, Anna, Hannah, and Hunter to come on and give their opinions as well!
The guys open up with a discussion about Moosehead Beer and how Justin had his first sip as a toddler, plus we celebrate Happy the dog's birthday by feeding him endless Greenies treats. Christian tells an embarrassing story about how he thought his tankless water heater was broken until a repairman charged him $200 to turn on a switch. We read a letter from Kayleen from San Diego about how the show helped her finally find a therapist (thanks, Better Help!). Finally, we hear a voicemail from a stoned listener named Maddie who asks whether the guys would rather fight Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
One of the hazards of the job as a horror movie podcast is that sometimes you're forced to discuss especially divisive films featuring beloved slasher icons doing really dumb stuff. No matter what you say, you're going to upset a large swath of horror fans. With that said, we're probably going to upset everybody this week since we're talking FREDDY VS. JASON (2003). It looks every bit of early 00s and much of the dialogue has aged like milk, so hold your nose for this one! If you like the show, be sure to Rate, Review & Subscribe!
