MOST UNDERRATED JAMES CAMERON FILM?! The Abyss Full Movie Reaction Watch Along: https://www.patreon.com/thereelrejects The Abyss Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review for the Science Fiction movie from James Cameron - the director behind Terminator 2 Judgment Day, The Terminator, Avatar, Avatar The Way Of Water, & Titanic. It's about this underwater crew who are on a mission to recover a lost nuclear submarine. But, you know, it's not just a simple search and rescue mission because they encounter some extraterrestrial aquatic beings. So, the crew consists of Bud Brigman (played by Ed Harris), his estranged wife Lindsey (played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), and a bunch of other characters. They're all working together to find this lost submarine, but things get complicated when they discover these alien creatures living in the deep sea. There's a lot of tension between Bud and Lindsey, and they have to work through their issues while dealing with the aliens. The aliens are pretty cool, by the way. They can manipulate water and even create these water tentacles that can mimic human faces. The climax of the movie involves a big decision for Bud. He has to choose between saving himself or sacrificing himself to prevent a nuclear war. Of course, he chooses the heroic option and dives into the abyss to stop a nuclear warhead from detonating. In the end, Bud survives and the aliens help him return to the surface. The movie ends with a message of hope and the idea that we can all work together to overcome our differences. The movie cast consists of Ed Harris as Virgil 'Bud' Brigman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Lindsey Brigman Michael Biehn as Lieutenant Hiram Coffey, Leo Burmester as Catton 'Catfish' De Vries, Todd Graff as Alan 'Hippy' Carnes, John Bedford Lloyd as Jammer Willis, Kimberly Scott as Lisa 'One Night' Standing, J.C. Quinn as Arliss 'Sonny' Dawson. "Avatar: The Way Of Water" has become one of the biggest films of all time, but it was not always guaranteed that it would live up to the first film. Similarly, in the aftermath of composer James Horner's tragic death, composer Simon Franglen had big shoes to fill as he stepped in to compose the world of James Cameron's "Avatar." Carrying on Horner's legacy and musical themes, the composer was kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with us about his work on the film, which you can listen to down below. First, Christian Bale, star of The Pale Blue Eye, talks to Chris Hewitt about being mistaken for Gareth Bale, and his experiences working with directors on multiple occasions, including Adam McKay, Scott Cooper, and Terrence Malick. Then Hugh Jackman, Golden Globe-nominated star of The Son (which opens here in February), talks to Amon Warmann about his experiences on that movie, working with Anthony Hopkins for a day, and why he's about to play Wolverine again in Deadpool 3. Then, Kate Hudson and Jessica Henwick, neither of whom were in The Prestige, more than make up for it by having a freewheeling and very funny chat with Chris about their new movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, life with an assistant, British sitcoms, and John Carpenter and Kurt Russell. And if that weren't enough, Chris is then joined in the podbooth by James Dyer and Helen O'Hara (who's not in the podbooth, which is why there's some slight distortion on her mic this week. Hopefully it won't spoil your listening experience.) for a fun episode in which they discuss their Christmas movie traditions, who would win between John McClane and Kevin McCallister; talk about the week's movie news, including Avatar: The Way Of Water's box office, the Barbie trailer, and the sad passing of Mike Hodges; and review Corsage, Glass Onion, and The Pale Blue Eye. We're taking a little break but are back on January 13, folks, so have a great Christmas if you celebrate, a fantastic holiday season if you don't, and an amazing start to 2023. Thanks so much for listening and supporting our nonsense throughout the year. Here's to more!

Welcome to our AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER movie review with FULL SPOILERS!!! We are joined by Joe Stark (StarkCast) and Paul Hart (Cinedudes) as we rate and review the 2nd entry in James Cameron's science fiction fantasy. Did Avatar 2 blow us away with the story or was it just another attempt at wowing us with visual effects? We also have theories for future installments of the franchise. Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet. In prep for AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, listen to Richard and Brian discuss their thoughts on the OG one and how it holds up after more than a decade!
Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. James Cameron has finally returned to the director's chair after more than a decade away, with Avatar: The Way Of Water, the sequel to the biggest film of all time. And when he came to London recently, we were delighted to stage a special Cameron-centric event, via the Empire VIP Club. First up, the Empire Podcast team of Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara and James Dyer hold court in front of a packed audience of Empire VIP Club members, waxing lyrical about all things Cameron (James, not Diaz or David). Then, in the second half of the show, Chris is joined on stage by Cameron himself for a one-hour deep dive into the career of one of the most successful directors of all time, and the path that has finally led him back to Pandora. If you're interested in becoming a member of the Empire VIP Club and being first in the queue (real and virtual) for events like this, go to empireonline.com/vip for more information and to sign up.

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Amy Smith, Cody Dericks, Daniel Howat & Brendan Hodges. This week we're reviewing what can only be described as the biggest film of the year, "Avatar: The Way Of Water," starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang & Kate Winslet. The film has been 13 years in the making since the original film, "Avatar," shattered box office records to become the highest-grossing film of all time. With a high frame rate, 3D, IMAX formats, and technological advances in CGI and motion capture performance, Cameron is pushing the limits of what's possible in filmmaking once again. What did we think of it? How does it hold up to the first film? How did we feel about the characters, story, and action set pieces? Plus, what does Cameron have planned for the other sequels in the epic sci-fi franchise? We discuss all of this and the film's Oscar prospects in our review below. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Christmas is coming, and the goose isn't the only thing that's getting fat. The Empire Podcast is bursting at the seams with incredible guests yet again, as we welcome a trio of top directors this week. First up, you get a brief excerpt from Chris Hewitt's live Q&A with James Cameron as he returns to cinemas with Avatar: The Way Of Water (the full show will be up soon, should you wish to listen to the rest; and you should!). Then, Amon Warmann has a nice in-depth chat with Alejandro G. Inarritu about his most personal film yet, Bardo: False Chronicle Of A Handful Of Truths, and then Chris talks to Spirited director Sean Anders about turning Dickens into a musical. Oh, and Chris gushes about one of Anders' films. No, not Daddy's Home 2. Although it is a Christmas movie. Then, in the virtual podbooth this week, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer to talk about the movie-themed Christmas presents they'd like, the film they've bought the most; to discuss the week's movie news, including Henry Cavill's on-off-on-off-again relationship with Superman; and review Bardo, The Amazing Maurice and that water film. Enjoy.

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 13 For this week's episode, Team Deakins sits down for a great conversation with the fabulous producer David Valdes (UNFORGIVEN, THE GREEN MILE, AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER). David tells us how he got his career started by sneaking onto a film shoot as a teenager. Eventually he found himself working on the Universal lot as a fireman, a position that doesn't even exist anymore and has little to do with putting out actual fires. Before long, our discussion turned to David's decades long relation with Clint Eastwood, who he made 18 films with. Listen in to hear our wide ranging conversation with one of the great producers in the business!
Gabrielle Union shares how she spent Thanksgiving this year and explains why she continues to be a truth teller in Hollywood. Plus, she's joined by director Elegance Bratton, who is the director of “The Inspection,” and they share about the making of the true story based on his life. Then, “Avatar: The Way Of Water” actor Sam Worthington discusses the challenges behind making the film and how he measured up to co-star Sigourney Weaver when it came to holding your breath underwater. In Hot Topics, the co-hosts react to the Senate passing the Same-Sex Marriage Bill, and more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
