On June 18, 2021, Lauri Detherage was found shot dead in her home in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Her ex-husband, Robert McCloud had the key to her house. They had remained friends since their divorce years ago. However, her new remarriage sent ol' Bob over the edge. He sent flash drives with confession videos to his family, entered Lauri's home and shot her, then proceeded to have a 10-hour standoff with law enforcement before being taken into custody.Join the CrimeJuicy gang as we sit down with award-winning romance novelist Marjorie Jones Cooke, and friend of Lauri Detherage to learn about the woman behind the headlines, the double-life they shared at romance conventions, and the dark secret of domestic violence to which they both returned when the weekend was done. This week on CrimeJuicy, the gang explores the question: just how far would you go for true, divine love? Would you join an online cult(?) and fork over thousands of dollars to learn how to attune yourself to harmonious union with THE ONE? Would you never give up your pursuit, even if it means getting arrested for stalking and harassment? Would you take rejection after rejection, change your diet, and dive headlong into self-abuse disguised as self reflection? We're talking the Twin Flames Universe and loneliness and vulnerability in the age of internet cults.Support the show

Since the 1990s a rash of mostly white, college-going males who were in very specific majors and involved in athletics were last seen leaving bars and later found floating in nearby rivers. Face up. With signs of lividity and other telltale signs that drowning was not the cause of death, and their bodies had not been in the water for the days to months during which they were missing. The causes of death were labeled accidental drownings...but that doesn't explain the ligature marks. Three retired detectives and a criminology professor have taken notice, and they think there is organized crime afoot. Are the Smiley Face Killers real? And if not, just who is killing all these jocks? This episode was produced with support from:M. In 2011, the FBI classified Juggalos - dedicated fans of horror rap group Insane Clown Posse - as a gang. This led to Juggalos being profiled, harassed, and charged by law enforcement, and shows being canceled. The band and several Juggalos teamed up with the ACLU to sue the FBI and the justice department. This week, the CrimeJuicy gang picks this all the way apart - from human rights, freedom of speech, and freedom of assembly, to our favorite ICP songs and Faygo flavors, to insight into the mysterious and widely misunderstood subculture of the Juggalos.BIG thank you to Psychopathic Records for your correspondence and encouragement. The gang explores the insanity defense and the biochemistry of psychopathy as observed through functional brain scans. We look at mental illness in several notable serial killers who are near and dear to our twisted little hearts to get down to the root of it - did their brains make them do it? At what point does one bear responsibility for their own actions, and how can that be litigated in terms of the death penalty?
Sweet Baby Jesus - Meet Vissarion, the Jesus of Siberia who had been living peacefully in his remote home with 4,000 followers completely off the grid. His recent arrest caught the attention of the gang and led us down a deep rabbit hole of people throughout history who have claimed to be Jesus...with mixed results.
NatureBoy - He's Not Wrong? The only cult leader to admit he's a jerk before he recruits you! The gang discusses this controversial culty figure and his devoted followers as they get kicked out of country after country. We look at NatureBoy's compelling message, insightful teachings, and the narcissistic personality overshadowing the situation.
Cannibalism is a persistent taboo for humans throughout history...a taboo that ALWAYS gets broken. Lured in by Russia's cannibal couple, Dmitri and Natalia Bakseev who confessed to killing and eating at least 30 people over the course of two decades, the gang covers contemporary cannibals, cannibals throughout human history, and even fossilized human feces found composed entirely of...other humans. Sorry, not sorry.
