Ed Goddard is the kind of guy who draws cherry blossoms on his Asics prototype shoes (I know because he showed me on our Zoom call). At 26, the Australian distance runner with a mullet and love of rock and roll has been on the rising star list for a while now. In this conversation we talk about Ed's triangle of fun – running, swimming and music (in no particular order), the importance of relishing the little things in life (sandwiches), and how to keep running fun (even when it's your job). We also speak about broken bones, the stress of hunting Olympic qualifiers, and Ed's experience with relative energy deficiency in sport. Ed Goddard is from Mossman, New South Wales. He has a 10,000m PB of 28:23 and a half marathon PB of 62:16, and has his sights set on bringing those times down so he can convert to a faster marathon (current PB of 2:12:52). Ed loves music from bygone eras and has about 800 vinyl records in his collection. If he's not running with his phone in his hand blasting tunes, he'll be swimming at the beach or watching the Chicago Cubs. Ed spent a brief stint running for Iona College in New York and has degrees in Property Economics and Sports Communication. -- Ed's Instagram: @edgoddard3k Ed's Strava: https://www.strava.com/pros/26943045 Ed's Spotify playlist: Songs to crash your car to Run With It Instagram: @runwithit.pod Intro/outro music by Dan Beacom Graphic design by Kate Scheer

An Amazon MGM Studios production is coming to Aotearoa, with Auckland announced as the primary shooting location for the star-studded project. The Wrecking Crew will be directed by award-winning film-maker Ángel Manuel Soto and feature an impressive cast including Aquaman's Jason Momoa, Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista, and New Zealand's own Temuera Morrison and Frankie Adams. Philippa Mossman, Head of International Attraction and Marketing for the NZ Film Commission, told Mike Hosking the Commission does everything they can to incentivise filming in New Zealand. She said the productions offer significant benefits in the short periods of time they film, including the huge injection of foreign money into the country, region, or community, that's spent on workers or businesses. In this episode I'm chatting with Deanna Depetro. She is the co-owner and creative director of Mossman - a women's fashion brand she's been a part of for more than 12 years now. What makes this journey a little different is that Deanna didn't found Mossman, she actually bought the business back in 2016 with a work colleague (and now business partner) Ben De Rango. I chat to Deanna about how she entered the fashion space and her 20 years of experience in the industry so far. We chat about why she chose to buy a brand rather than start her own, and what surprised her about being a business owner. She talks about what it looks like running a clothing brand in such a competitive space; the best business decisions she's ever made; and how to grow as a fashion brand in Australia and in the U.S. Deanna also touches on making it as a fashion brand through covid; how she maintains a strong and positive team; how she puts herself out there as the brand's designer and her strategy when it comes to personal branding. – Find The Founder Tapes on Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn – Find Deanna Depetro: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deannadepetro/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@deannadepetro LinkedIn: in/deanna-depetro – Find Mossman: Mossman: Website and LinkedIn – Thank you for listening! Writer and filmmaker Sara Mossman grew up in Baltimore in the midst of a family dynamic that consisted of "a lot of dysfunction, a lot of chaos, a lot of people in the mix" (Sara is one of SIX children!). All of this led to her becoming emancipated from her family just before she turned fourteen...riiiiiight on the heels of also figuring out that she was gay. Suffice to say that Sara did not have an easy adolescence, but the saving grace came when she was accepted into a predominantly-female, VERY queer arts school for her high school years! Sara shares how generational trauma has shaped her journey, but hasn't prevented her from having a great deal of empathy for her mother (whose own mother was a child bride from the Philippines). Also, the wild tale of how Sara was assisted in her hardest coming out by none other than Mister Rogers! Talk about "It's a beautiful day in the GAYborhood!!!" (Sorry; I had to.) Check out Sara's website (saramossman.com) and YouTube channel (youtube.com/c/underaneonsky), and follow her on Twitter at @SMossman. You can also purchase her novel, "The Tree of Life," at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGX5HGPL, and check out her BFF's charity that she mentioned at unmatchedathlete.org!

This week's guest is a teacher of voice, movement, and wholistic expression. Jeremy Ryan Mossman is the founder of Body-Based Voice Ped and has presented at global events for the likes of The Voice Foundation, Voice Study Centre, and the Musical Theater Educators Alliance and has spoken about many topics, including fascia-based techniques. Jeremy is a contributing author, a 500-hour certified yoga teacher, and a Feldenkrais Practitioner in training. Jeremy is here to discuss why we would benefit from considering the whole self during singing and teaching singing, and what that even means. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fascia is a pre-tensioned continua in our body, tensioning everything into place. It is the architecture for everything in our body. It surrounds and is throughout each muscle. Fascia is non-Newtonian - it stiffens with force, and is fluidic and compliant without it. Muscles are fast-acting contractile proteins that push & pull on the fascia within and around them. Muscle tissues themselves aren't actually very strong, but the fascia that muscles live within has the tensile strength of steel. Muscle and fascia work in a unified myofascial system. High performers have a tendency to confuse their performance results with their identity. Labeling yourself can be catastrophic as you try and figure out who you are as a person. If you play the labeling game – you are going to lose. Ken Mossman knows this well. As the head of Cirrus Leadership, Ken has been coaching men who have lost sight of their personal identity to help them realign and, as he puts it, get their mojo back. In this episode, Dan and Ken talk about the game and the journey of trying to accomplish a major career milestone, and how to identify the voices that cause doubt, stress, and setbacks.

Today in conversation with actor, director and writer John Mossman about his new #film Good Guy with a Gun. We discuss the controversial #guncontrol and #gunviolence in the US. The film is an intense drama/thriller and provokes the question "what side of the aisle does the film land on?" A rural noir thriller following a boy and his mother's arrival into a small town where their fractured relationship is widened by his deepening journey into gun culture. Amidst the increasingly dangerous path he finds himself on, he and his mother struggle to repair their fractured family. But at what cost? John is a well-known Chicago-based actor/director who connection to the Chicago theater community runs deeps - so there are many familiar faces in this film. Producer Kevin Cooper is a military veteran, served active duty as an army interrogator. As an executive in Hollywood, he helped make other movies about the military: Men of Honor, Thin Red Line, Armageddon. He has other films in development that revolve around the military and Veteran issues. He has written and directed numerous award-winning films, including the acclaimed Feature Into The Wake, winner of the Industry Choice Award at Dances With Films. His work has screened at the DGA, the Egyptian Theater as part of the American Cinematheque Series, and has won top awards at fests worldwide. His groundbreaking documentary on teen mental illness, There's No Such Thing As Crazy, received Telly and Voice awards. John Mossman is a hunter (aka “responsible gun-owner”) and an ardent Democrat. Enclosed is John's director's statement, which I think says a lot about how he's tackled this subject: “Families have always had their challenges. Teenagers will rebel. Parents will split. Loved ones will die. Together we worked through the problems and the grief. But the new political landscape has driven a steel wedge between loved ones and the issues that families have dealt with for decades are now magnified by politicians and a media eager to profit – the result being an inability to connect with some of the most important people in our lives. A type of jet fuel being added to this fire is the emotionally charged issue of guns, which combined with stoked elements of masculinity, fear and frustration, has created an explosive new cocktail pouring through the veins of our nation; one that unfortunately shows no sign of abating as we witness the continued radicalization of young men and the polarizing nature of the gun debate. Despite the blowback they might face, many responsible gun owners are ready to acknowledge the sickness of gun worship and the fallacy of the apocalyptic "Good guy with a gun" world-view that has gained so much traction of late. With this film I hope to explore the danger and at times the appeal of going down this path, and the extraordinary difficulty of turning back - and ultimately the enduring power of family to see us through dark times.” AMAROK PRODUCTIONS (Kevin Cooper & DeAnna Cooper) is pleased to announce the world premiere of A John Mossman Film GOOD GUY WITH A GUN at the Dances With Films Festival (DWF). Mossman is a DWF alum having won the Industry Choice Award for INTO THE WAKE. " GOOD GUY WITH A GUN will play on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 9:30 pm as part of the festival at Regal Union Square (850 Broadway, NYC 10003).
