On this week's show, Rebecca Onion and Jenny Zhang fill in for Stephen. First, the panel tackles HBO's Industry. The show is in its third season and has seen a huge increase in viewership. But is it a show worth of the coveted Sunday night timeslot? Then, they explore Alien: Romulus, a new addition to Xenomorph lore, with a controversial cameo. Finally, the panel talks about Sephora, beauty culture and tweens in a conversation inspired by Jia Tolentino's new essay What Tweens Get from Sephora and What They Get From Us. On this week's exclusive Slate Plus bonus episode, the panel talks about watching horror movies as a critic. Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Endorsements: REBECCA: Two endorsements: First, Health and Safety: A Breakdown by Emily Witt. This memoir from a New Yorker writer is a fascinating look at “changing perceptions of life.” Second, pistachio milk. It's tasty. Our oracle Krista did it. She connected with Megan Marty, daughter of the Bully killers Lisa Connelly and Marty Puccio on TikTok. Megan agreed to talk to us and while she was on the line Marty called from prison to give us his very first voice interview. Somehow, we weren't speechless.Marty Puccio had been savagely bullied by Bobby Kent for years including physical, psychological, and sexual abuse. While the two appeared to be best friends, there was a deep dark side, one in which Marty was held hostage to this friendship that few saw...until Marty's girlfriend Lisa Connelly and her best friend Allie Willis learned the hard way. After abuse, rape, death threats, and more from Bobby, the three and their accomplices decided he had to die, and he did. The young and traumatized Marty Puccio was sentenced to death and spent two years on death row, before his sentence was commuted to life in prison with the opportunity for parole. While he and Lisa were in prison, their daughter, Megan was born. When she was five shortly before the film "Bully" came out, she learned the truth about her life and her parents.Join the CrimeJuicy Gang for our interview with the resilient, accomplished, and hilarious Megan Marty and her father, Marty Puccio, from prison.Join us on Patreon at www.patreon.com/crimejuicygang for ad-free episodes! This episode was produced with support from:M. Since the 1990s a rash of mostly white, college-going males who were in very specific majors and involved in athletics were last seen leaving bars and later found floating in nearby rivers. Face up. With signs of lividity and other telltale signs that drowning was not the cause of death, and their bodies had not been in the water for the days to months during which they were missing. The causes of death were labeled accidental drownings...but that doesn't explain the ligature marks. Three retired detectives and a criminology professor have taken notice, and they think there is organized crime afoot. Are the Smiley Face Killers real? In 2011, the FBI classified Juggalos - dedicated fans of horror rap group Insane Clown Posse - as a gang. This led to Juggalos being profiled, harassed, and charged by law enforcement, and shows being canceled. The band and several Juggalos teamed up with the ACLU to sue the FBI and the justice department. This week, the CrimeJuicy gang picks this all the way apart - from human rights, freedom of speech, and freedom of assembly, to our favorite ICP songs and Faygo flavors, to insight into the mysterious and widely misunderstood subculture of the Juggalos.BIG thank you to Psychopathic Records for your correspondence and encouragement.
