How do you find peace from within, when your inner child is being difficult? There are many ways your inner child acts out to get you to pay attention. In this special weekend episode, I talk about the importance of minding our words, especially when words can hurt others or dehumanize them. Words can heal, but words can also hurt. And in light of the insurrection at the US Capitol building on Wednesday January 6, 2021, and the resulting call to come together to strengthen our democracy, I felt a strong pull to sharing the reflections in this episode, to talk about the state of our democracy in the US, and more importantly, the state of us, as a community and as a humanity. The way we, as a society choose to use our words is a powerful tool at our disposal, and the words we say matter; or even those words we don't say but need to say also matter. In this special episode, I want us to explore the recent news of a COVID-19 vaccine, and what it means to some communities of color, particularly the African American community. In the last couple of weeks, two biotechnology companies came forward with news of a COVID-19 vaccine, saying that it is more than 90% effective. As many states are beginning to work on how to distribute COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available, it's also important to acknowledge the public trust or lack of trust, when it comes to vaccination, and particularly with regards to vaccinating African Americans' experiences.
