Keisha Greaves, the founder of Girls Chronically Rock, has always been passionate about fashion. At age 24, she was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, and her life changed. But far from being bogged down by it, Keisha decided not only to embrace it but to celebrate Muscular Dystrophy and other chronic illnesses, giving life to her dream of starting a fashion line. In this episode, Keisha shares how denial and grief became her burnout. Then she started sharing her thoughts and in typing out a blog post, she told the world about her diagnosis and people rallied. She started making connections with others who have the same disability. Learning to live with Muscular Dystrophy and having relationships with peers who understand it. Her recovery most definitely began at the point of admitting the truth about what her body is going through. In today's recovery moment, we're going to practice our smiling. When Keisha Greaves was diagnosed with a chronic illness at the height of her college studies, she found herself immersed in a journey of self-acceptance. Little did she know she would soon create a brand that would not only uplift her spirits but create a movement for those across the world experiencing the same. In this episode, Founder and CEO of Girls Chronically Rock, Keisha talks about coming to terms with her chronic illness, continuing her dreams of pursuing fashion, and being an activist for black disabled lives. Keisha Geaves, Founder and CEO of Girls Chronically Rock Gems from this convo: Changes in your personal life don’t have to affect your career and business goals. Find a way to adapt. Create for people like you. If you need a product, someone else does too. Create it. Sell it. Build a community around it. Use your story about your business, the cause, and your purpose to empower someone who may be going through the same struggles. Make choices that are good for all consumers, not just the ones you immediately think of. Adaptive fashion is a great example of how friendly fashion is good for all consumers not just some. Confidence is a muscle. Flex it in whatever ways you need to feel a boost. Seek and find the mental health resources you need to be a healthy business owner. Owning a business is a lot, especially if you’re doing it alone. Talk to someone. Find and support entrepreneurs on a similar path as you. When someone wins. We all win. Plan for the Future with Keisha Greaves Keisha Greaves was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy at just 24 years old, a condition that causes muscles to deteriorate. She first started noticing her body was responding abnormally when she was in graduate school. Keisha would repeatedly fall from her legs giving out or find herself unable to lift objects in the kitchen. After numerous tests, her chronic illness was identified. Keisha felt uncertain about the future, but she relied on her family and therapy and learned to see the beauty in taking each day as it comes. In this podcast episode, I am discussing raising funds for an Accessible Vehicle. Even as little as $5 dollars would really make a difference in donating towards my goal. Accessible vehicles are totally expensive, which is ridiculous for the disability community. We want to live independently and live our best lives and go out with family and friends.  Did you know that most disabled Americans have faced - the outright overpriced mobility van market?  The issue is that people face very few funding resources in the USA to cover conversions.  New mobility vans can cost over $70,000. Imagine not leaving your home because you cannot afford transportation.  This is the reality for many disabled Americans. My goal is to purchase this vehicle before my 35th birthday, which is September 5th! If you would like to donate toward my gofundme, you can do that here at https://www.gofundme.com/f/handicap-accessible-vehcile?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cp%20share-sheet&fbclid=IwAR3oKdfS5AW7JbFQZgdeqI9Jb45RiUIphmUMNXBu2toUyt9b54GGEBpd284 To Check out my website Girls Chronically Rock at https://www.girlschronicallyrock.com Thank You, Keisha Greaves, Business Owner Girls Chronically Rock, LLC Check out my t-shirt line at www.girlschronicallyrock.com IG @ girlschronically_rock Facebook @GirlsChronicallyRock Girls Chronically Rock Podcast @ https://anchor.fm/keisha-greaves www.instagram.com/girlschronically_rock www.twitter.com/girlschronical1 www.facebook.com/keishagreaves www.linkedin.com/keishagreaves --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/keisha-greaves/message
