They candidly discuss the importance of human connection, the challenges of standing out in a crowded inbox, and why a personal, authentic approach still trumps automation.Key Topics CoveredThe AI Pitch Flood:Liz and Barrie commiserate over the overwhelming volume of robotic pitches podcasters and journalists now receive—many clearly generated by AI and lacking the human touch. Barrie advocates for real connection and shares why personalized storytelling is more important than ever.Tech vs. Authenticity:Barrie explains the limitations of using AI to discover podcasts or media contacts, noting that up-to-date databases are still critical for PR professionals. She highlights where AI is useful (outlining, jump-starting ideas), but why it can't replace good writing and real research.Quality Over Quantity:The conversation stresses the value of targeted, genuine pitches over mass, generic outreach. They touch on “vanity marketing,” and why strategic relationship-building and reputation matter more than sheer visibility.Navigating PR in a Polarized World:Liz and Barrie discuss how businesses can get caught in controversy—sometimes intentionally—and the risks of trying to be “everything to everyone.” Barrie provides advice on aligning PR strategies with your true brand and audience. The Power of Boutique PR:Barrie shares insights on the benefits of working with a small, high-touch PR firm versus a large agency. She reveals how personal relationships and deep understanding of a client make for the most successful campaigns.Common PR Misconceptions:They debunk myths about “overnight success” media placements, set realistic expectations about timelines, and discuss why integrity and honest feedback matter in a PR partnership.Memorable MomentsThe duo bond over reality TV, travel quirks, and nail clippers in carry-ons amidst PR industry talk.Liz shares a story about a local business whose political involvement impacted her purchasing decisions, illustrating why brand alignment is everything today.Barrie advises business owners to be crystal clear about their target audience and not chase controversy unless it truly fits their brand.Connect with Barrie CohenWebsite: bcpublicrelations.comEmail: barrie@bcpublicrelations.comLinkedIn: Barrie Cohen (search for her for direct messaging)Barrie's agency works with clients across the US, Canada, and internationally, offering personalized PR strategies that get results.Episode TakeawayReal PR isn't just about getting seen—it's about being understood, making meaningful connections, and sharing genuine stories that move the needle for your business. AI might help with efficiency, but heart and authenticity are still what set the best PR pros apart. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Is it your purpose, your vision, your livelihood, or just your job? The terms may not vary all that much on paper but they certainly feel different. With traditional marketing, there was a clear line between marketing and the sales process. You couldn't look at a billboard and buy something, but today, when you look online, it is all mixed together. For entrepreneurs, this can get quite overwhelming pretty quickly. In this podcast episode of IntegratED, Jamie L Palmer talks to Liz Theresa, a business mentor, copywriter, and web designer. Liz has helped entrepreneurs find clarity and uniquely market themselves with confidence for the past 10 years. In this episode of Small Business Connections, Ann talks all about copy with copywriter, web designer, intuitive business mentor and podcast host, Liz Theresa of LizTheresa.com. Liz settles the big question of which is more important: good copy or hot looking website. Right from the start, it was divulged that Liz is from the Boston area. The word wicked flowed out of Liz's mouth and Ann caught it on the spot. Getting to know Liz, she shared the fun fact that she has seen half of the country. Liz's enthusiasm is infectious as they share a few laughs and discuss all things copy related. Let's define copy, it's the words you use to communicate about your business. Liz writes copy about clients when she interviews her clients about their business. Copy matters. You can have a posh website but, if it doesn't tell about you and what your business offers you are not going to reach as many people. Liz helps entrepreneurs launch and build online businesses. Building an effective website begins with your number one call to action and clarity of what you want your website to do. Liz and Ann discuss the importance of conveying the message; what you wish people knew about you. In addition to copywriting and web design, Liz hosts the podcast, Liz on biz. Be sure to check it out and, tell her how you found the show. Every Monday, she delivers 30 minutes of entrepreneurship. Liz started her podcast in 2016, on Election Day (listen to hear why not to do that). The Liz on biz podcast is getting ready to celebrate its 200th episode with the CEO of Hint, Kara Goldin. Liz's Favorite Books Undaunted: Overcoming Doubts and Doubters by Kara Goldin The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear to Faith by Gabrielle Bernstein The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien Ann shared her charity, Burgers and Bands for Suicide Prevention, as we are in need of funds. We are far below the necessary funds this year so, the mission is to raise funds through our virtually hosted event. TUNE IN: APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY | STITCHER Liz Theresa, business mentor and founder of LizTheresa.com, has been helping entrepreneurs find clarity and uniquely market themselves with confidence for a near decade through her strategic website design, intuitive business mentorship, and clever copywriting services. She wants every entrepreneur to rise and be the star of their own business. She's also the creator of Concept to Creation, her flagship branding and web design program and you can download a free copywriting training video from her at freecopyvideo.com. HER BACKGROUND Liz talks about starting out young and making websites as a fun hobby. She tells about one of her first job interviews out of school and how it led to a conversation with her mother where she was prompted to simply go for it and that she didn't need permission. From there she didn't look back and has now been in the industry for over ten years. TRANSITIONING FROM HOBBY TO CAREER Liz tells about her first job working at an insurance agency and how she found herself speaking and working with people in the building. She became the person that people ended up going to for online marketing and it grew from there. She slowly phased into spending more and more time offering her marketing services until she took it full-time. TALKING WEBSITES Liz speaks of the value of really great design but emphasizes the importance of copy and making sure that the language that you are using is put together in the right way. We talk about how your words and copy so strongly impact the vision and outcome of your website in creating a clear roadmap for users to follow and understand exactly what it is that you have to offer. ON GROWTH We discuss how Liz started to grow her business and add members to her team. She spoke to simply being so tired that she knew she needed to outsource. She talks to having that moment in your business where you know you can't go on in the same way and speaks to the importance of still being able to have fun in your business and if you start to lose that it is time to seek help. She focused on hiring out in the parts of her business in the areas that she personally least enjoyed. Liz talks about how podcasting and business mentorship are some of her favorite aspects of her business. We also discuss her least favorite part which is spending time on email. AUTHENTICITY AND BRAND VOICE Liz talks about clients coming to her because they love how she shows up online and are seeking out a way to authentically show up. She emphasizes that copy is connected to everything and talks about how she does messaging sessions where she asks pointed questions that allow her clients to arrive at what makes them different so that over time their brand messaging and mission is clear and easy to talk about. She says that when you stop thinking about copy as “copy” it becomes less scary. She has clients go through an exercise where they write a letter to their best friend and tell them about your business. We talk about other tips or suggestions that Liz has and she speaks to the importance of not being afraid to invest in your business and that there is no magic moment where you're ready and that your business is suddenly legitimized and that if you're ready to take it seriously you should be willing to invest. ON NAVIGATING “THE NEW NORMAL” Liz talks about how people are always willing to spend money on things that they think are important and that you, as a business owner, need to decide that what you offer is still important. She stresses to keep an open mind and not to let your own fears get in the way of what could be. She emphasizes that you need to release your attachment to the outcome and points out that price is not always a true indicator of why people don't hire you, but rather, a lack of education. She speaks to giving people a compelling reason to want and need what you have to sell. We both speak to fear and how it is always so present in business ownership and Liz emphasizes entertaining the worst case scenarios in order to make sure they don't happen. We discuss the natural tendencies for things to not always work out such as a failed launch and how we can learn and grow from those experiences. WRAPPING UP Liz talks about her upcoming membership that she is going to be launching which is focused around sales. links + resources WHERE TO FIND LIZ website free copywriting training on facebook on instagram STAY HAPPY + GET INSPIRED THE CC SPOTIFY PLAYLIST BOOK CLUB reco Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS GET 20% OFF YOUR FIRST MONTH OR YEAR OF DUBSADO WITH CODE THECC20
