Although Nancy felt passionate about her previous professions, she desired more from life and wanted a career that worked with, rather than against, her blindness. She obtained her Life Coaching degree from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. Our inspirational guest, Luca Patuelli, was born with Arthrogryposis, a rare neuro-muscular disorder that made walking very difficult. Since he was 7 months old, he has undergone a total of 16 surgeries to support his body. As a teenager, Luca still found ways to be physically active, from skateboarding on his back to using outrigger skis to support his legs. Unfortunately, at the age of 17, Luca had a surgery that took away his ability to skateboard, but another door opened: the world of breakdancing (BBoying). Since then, he has found a home through the BBoy community, dancing across the nation with his team of all-stars, the Ill-Abilities. Our first caller Erica was seeking advice on how to stop over analyzing her conversations at work and sharing less to her co-workers. Nancy told her that it is okay to be emotional about subjects she cares about and to find a way to articulate when she is speaking as to why she feels the way she does. Emotions can be a strength and Erica can use her feelings to shed light on situations she is passionate about. Our inspirational guest Terry Healey was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma at the age of 21 which started as a minor diagnosis but became serious after 6 months when he began experiencing tingling feelings in his face. This led to a serious surgery that causes disfigurement to his appearance. Terry had to focus on what was on the inside rather than the outside. Listen to hear how Terry re-gained his confidence and embraced who he was. Our last caller Hormoz needed advice on how to stay focused when completing a task. Nancy suggested that he creates a to do list of everything he needs to get done and crosses off assignments as he does them. Our first caller Emily started high school this year from home and needs advice on how to balance her work life with her personal life. She is having a hard time separating the two from one another. Nancy advises Emily to remodel her room by getting a night time comforter and a day time comforter that creates two different emotions. She also suggests that Emily should try to do work outside or any other place she gets wifi that isn’t in her room. Nancy says that it is important to change the elements of her routine to switch it up and improve her remote learning schedule. Our inspirational guest, Jay Shiftman struggled with mental illness and substance abuse. Initially being diagnosed at 11 with ADHD his therapist prescribed him multiple prescriptions. Over his teenage years into his twenties, he felt he was being miss diagnosed and overmedicated. After two suicide attempts and being checked into a treatment facility, he started his journey in getting off medication. Listen to hear how he was able to use a step down detox method to get off drugs and reclaim his life. Our last caller Austin was looking for advice on how to remain positive while struggling with self-image. Austin explained to Nancy that he is insecure physically and mentally. By being persistent and leaning on her family members support, she was able to function and speak again.
