(Snippets from an Interview by Caroline Brown of "This Crazy over 40's Life Podcast") - Part 4- On-Demand Programme Link - https://mailchi.mp/bb2a7b851246/kairos-centreSomething shifted during Covid-19 lockdown. Many women enticed to use phones, computers and tablets during lockdown, crossed their own "values" boundaries, as it seemed reasonable to do so (in the unusual circumstances of lockdown). The problem: Once crossed and their brain experienced the novelty, naughtiness, daringness and thrill of seeing a partner on the other side of the screen - went back for repeat. With repeat, came "normalising". With normalising, came further encroachment. Many women have become addicted to sex and/or porn, but either do not know it, accept it, in denial, reject the notion or head buried - you choose which one! Oh no - don't be angry and upset with me. This might be the start of you reclaiming your life.Shall I push on, undaunted? "In for a penny, in for a pound, hey".For others, romantic novels (Fifty Shades of Grey is now somewhat tame) - they have gravitated to "Romance": as the safe search word on Netflix, Apple TV and Amazon Prime. Those movie viewings (with a bit (no - a lot) of spice) is now normalised night cap viewing with a cup of.... before bed. "Just my way of chilling and winding down. "I deserve"; "no harm done". (Oh - by the way - that sounds like the men's (similar) journey into porn! After all - "I'm not doing anything different to what lots of others watch and are doing"; "this is mainstream TV viewing, not a porn site"; "just a tonic before bed".Very British. At least it isn't sex before breakfast - which is not very British!!Which quote do you use - to justify?(Oh dear. Nancy Pearcey joins Dr. Mark Turman to discuss the rise of secular masculinity, what makes a “good” man versus a “real” man, how Christianity makes men less misogynistic, not more, why young men are struggling, and how Christians can reclaim manhood. Show notes: Nancy Pearcey discusses why she wanted to write on masculinity, sharing her story of meeting Francis and Edith Schaeffer, converting from agnosticism, and her experience with an abusive father (3:01). She reflects on the history of masculinity, the growth of toxic masculinity during the Industrial Revolution, and why modern women seem to hate men (11:26). Pearcey talks about why she wrote the Toxic War on Masculinity, which delves into the ideas of Christ-like and secular masculinity (19:61). They reflect on the dangers of nominal Christianity, why dedicated evangelical men have the best marriages, but Christian-in-name-only men create the worst marriages (36:44). She says, “nominal Christian men can take the secular script and then sort of baptize it, and the end of actually living worse than secular men.” She provides a multitude of research demonstrating that men becoming evangelical Christians makes them less misogynistic (52:31). She closes by reflecting on the current landscape, how men are falling behind women in all areas, and how true Christians can reclaim masculinity in a healthy way (56:09). Show Notes for Episode Twenty-Five of seX & whY: Global Health and Pandemic Responsiveness Through a Sex and Gender Lens Host: Jeannette Wolfe Guests: McKinzie Gales – Fellow at the CDC and co-lead for Phase I of the multi-agency SAGER IOA project aimed at facilities' better collection, analysis, and use of sex-disaggregated data and gendered data for outbreak response. Emelie Yonally Phillips – Global Health consultant specializing in Integrated Outcome Analysis Definitions IOA - Integrated Outbreak Analysis SAGER - Sex and Gender Equity in Research The IOA concept started in earnest in 2018 during the Eboli outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo after it became clear that more real time, comprehensive on the ground data was needed to best manage outbreaks in an efficient and effective manner. The larger picture concept is that the IOA model sets up a system for increased interagency data sharing that included more comprehensive information about: How infections spread How individuals access health systems and how patterns might evolve over time How local sociocultural norms, behaviors and expectations, impact an outbreak response and community recovery The IOA - Creates a more holistic response to outbreaks along the entire pipeline from prevention to treatment. It creates a model that puts lots of partners at the table including major players like Unicef, WHO, CDC, Doctors without Borders in addition to local governmental agencies and boots on the ground health care providers. Examples of data that may be exchanged include: Surveillance data Health information systems data Programs data Community data Timeline event data Goal is to create an accessible stockpile of comprehensive data that is unique to a specific outbreak which can be used to drive more efficacious and timely interventions. Including a SAGER framework in an IOA model ensures that sex and gender related information is being collected and considered in outbreak: Prevention Detection Management/Treatment Response Four phase project Phase 1: Literature review - how is sex and gender being considered in outbreak response Phase 2: Participatory engagement in real time projects that are using an IOA model and identifying what is already known about site specific sex and gender differences in tools/programs. Developing survey of response actors looking at their current understanding about sex and gender and how they are or are not collecting needed information and/or analyzing and using it to guide interventions. Create workshops and small groups to address challenges identified in survey, enhance education and brainstorm on how to overcome recognized barriers. Co-create practical recommendations and strategies to more systemically integrate sex and gender into the outbreak analysis process. Phase 3: Collate Phase 2 responses from several different outbreaks to develop a larger SAGER IOA model that can then be flexibly applied to future outbreaks. Phase 4: Pilot testing in different outbreaks Evaluating responses and further modification Great resources Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof More information about the SAGER Guidelines Link to previous podcast with Dr Shjrin Heidari who was one of the fundamental drivers of developing the SAGER Guidelines.

Casey Erin Clark sang at the Tony Awards a few months ago: a dream come true for a Midwestern girl who grew up singing in church and starring in school musicals. But it may not have happened if she had landed the Broadway role that she thought was her ticket to the big-time. After earning a degree in fine arts, Casey came to New York City to try to make it on Broadway. After making her off-Broadway debut, she soon found success when she landed a role in the cast of the 25th anniversary national tour of Les Miserables. A few months after the tour ended, Casey was in final callbacks for the show's highly anticipated Broadway revival. It was the role she was made for; she could feel it. But she didn't get the part. And that's when Casey began to realize that she might just have another calling. So many women believe they're bad at negotiations because it's not a skill they've ever been successful at building. Not because they haven't sought out the knowledge and advice, but because the advice they were given was not gender neutral. That's right. Negotiation is a highly gendered skill, and that needs to change. Kathryn Valentine founded Worthmore Negotiations after having a bad experience with negotiations while she was in college. She had an amazing internship where she'd completed her tasks in a fraction of the time allotted. However, when it was time to present her project, she was told that she wasn't a good fit for the company. Why? Because she'd tried to negotiate like a man. This experience led her down the path of researching more about this issue overall. Come to find out, women really do need to negotiate in a different way in order to be heard, respected, and compensated. Listen as Kathryn shares the three main principles women should keep in mind as they're negotiating, her 9-step framework for helping her clients become amazing negotiators, and some fantastic resources to get you started. This is a jam-packed episode filled with thorough research and data as well as actionable strategies to get you going on your negotiation journey. Are you ready to lock in your next big compensation package? Show Notes: [02:46] What led Kathryn Valentine down this path to helping women with their negotiation skills? [06:13] Negotiation is a highly gendered skill and research shows that the advice women get is holding them back. [08:03] Learn some of the first steps women can take in order to increase their negotiation skills. [09:34] The three sources you should use as you're benchmarking the value of a role. [12:30] What are some of the most common mistakes women make when they enter that salary and benefits conversation. [15:29] Do women give up on negotiations too soon? [17:16] The three main principles of negotiating as a woman. [20:11] A demonstration of these principles in action. [21:52] Learn the 9 steps she takes her clients through to help them negotiate better pay and benefits in their jobs. [27:31] Have there been any impactful moments along the way that have stuck with Kathryn? [29:25] Kathryn shares one last piece of advice for all of our Women Worldwide community. Her very first entrepreneurial experience was at the age of 12 when her father asked her to close a real estate deal. Talk about being thrown into the frying pan! She graduated college at the age of 18 and spent the next 5 years in corporate America hearing leader after leader ask the same question, what is wrong with Millennials? Why can't we recruit them and why can't we keep them? The research shows that the generation in question was less in relation to millennials and more with Gen Z. Listen as she shares her insights and what recent data shows about the needs and wants of Gen Z and what leaders should do to attract this dynamic new generation. Show Notes: [01:03] Welcome back to the show and another amazing guest. [03:10] Meet Hannah Williams and learn more about her entrepreneurial journey. [06:16] How she got into what she does today. [07:50] Why she wrote a book about her research and who it is for. [10:31] What is Gen Z looking for and how should leaders go about recruiting them? [13:08] 62% of Gen Z goes to friends and family for job opportunities. [15:33] Are leaders shocked by the new data? [16:50] One practical tip for leaders and businesses everywhere. [19:38] Gen Z'ers are looking for authentic connection and content. [21:41] Hannah shares one of her AHA moments. If you've listened to the show for long, you know that I am an avid reader. I am constantly reading multiple books and learning so much about the world and business. Which is why I like to stop and share what I'm reading with you when I'm able. During this election there was so much talk of “Lincoln's Party” that I decided I needed to learn more about President Lincoln. I grabbed With Malice Toward None by Stephen B. Oates and was fascinated by our former president's life and trials and how he managed to lead our country in a time of huge change. I also love to learn about ways to create a more powerful mind. I grabbed Maximize Your Potential Through the Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy because I'd previously read, The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy and I love the way he approaches becoming more mentally aware. Listen in to hear all of my recommendations. I have read so many books this year so far, but this list is by far my favorite. I try really hard to read different kinds of books so that I'm not always stuck in business mode and this year I've definitely accomplished that. What are you reading? Women Worldwide goes on vacation. Have a wonderful summer! Show Notes: [01:09] I am solo again and I'm sharing all the reading that I've been doing. [02:02] In light of the election, I decided I needed to learn more about President Lincoln. [02:54] I've loved reading about how to Maximize Your Potential Through the Power of the Subconscious Mind. [03:51] I've also been reading Poor Charlie's Almanac to learn more about the wisdom behind finance. [05:51] One of my favorite books that I've read in 2021 is the Digital Pivot. [07:35] A quick shout out to several other books that I thought were really good. Links and Resources: With Malice Toward None by Stephen B. We need to communicate with empathy and purpose. Easier said than done! Thankfully, episode 13 of the Informational Interview 2.0 podcast will provide you with practical tips and guidance. Deirdre Breakenridge, CEO of Pure Performance Communications, developed a model for communications called FEEL: facing your Fears, engaging with Empathy, using Ethics and good judgment and unleashing the Love of your mission across communication channels for genuine engagement to build unbreakable bonds. Deirdre's work now focuses on using this proprietary model in her work as a consultant. The “L” of the FEEL model - love of your mission - can be challenging for many, especially students and younger professionals. Deirdre shared that “things are going to change throughout your career. We all grow. What we think success entails at age 20 might be different by age 30 and in your 40s. But what is one thing that you really love to do and is a problem you are solving that people would pay for, yet you would do this for free.” To find this mission, Deirdre advised that you: Tune in to yourself. Don't be distracted by external forces. Be wary of naysayers. You can take the FEEL First Test at this link. In addition, Deirdre shared that there are many ways we can innovate in our own careers by networking with other individuals. Conversations alone won't suffice; you need to truly and actively listen. For example, based on the learning from the conversations during her research project, she is now in the process of authoring a new book entitled Answers for Ethical Marketers. She encouraged others to also create content as part of their career journeys. “When you do this, you learn, grow, expand your horizons and meet new people. You also open up yourself to new opportunities.” To be more effective at content creation and develop clarity around career goals, Deirdre advised that you closely follow the work of other professionals. “If you find a professional who is inspiring and you like their content, think about what they are doing. Look at their website, blog and social media channels. Engage and share their work.” By doing this, you then have a foundation in place and can potentially reach out to try setting up an opportunity to connect for a phone call or meeting. You can learn more about Deirdre's work at her blog, connect with her on LinkedIn and listen to her podcast Women Worldwide. The Informational Interview 2.0 Podcast is brought to you by the Global Innovators Academy's "Interview an Innovator" course experience and by Career Path Writing Solutions.
It all started in a bar in Costa Rica. That's where Marissa Fayer, a medical engineer, learned that women were dying of breast cancer at an alarming rate in the country's remote regions. "I knew I had to do something. I knew I was in a position to do something. I knew I was fortunate enough to have access to high-tech medical equipment." She just had to figure out how she could save these women's lives, not just in Costa Rica, but around the world.

Host Travis King of the Community Builder Podcast talks with Claire Wasserman about gender dynamics in business, how to effectively network, and the unexpected ways you can impact others. Episode Highlights: Even before she began Ladies Get Paid, Claire worked in recruitment and was already thinking about what influenced people to accept a job offer and to stay in that job. Investing in women is crucial for the overall economy. Claire created an even with a town hall format for women to discuss what money means to them, with an open forum for women to share their situations rather than attempting to provide generic advice. She created a Slack group for the women in attendance to continue the conversation, and it grew to a website, to a coaching company. When you do work to found a company on your own, it's potentially as valuable as going to business school. Claire suggests finding your “portal person,” or a person in your network who sits at the intersection of a lot of people you could potentially connect with. When reaching out to your portal person to ask for something, also think about what you can offer to them. Consider whether it would be more beneficial to you to learn by working for someone else and get paid rather than immediately starting your own company where the ultimate success or failure depends entirely on your learning curve. To grow the company, Claire and her business partner started an ambassador program to train women to run similar events in their cities. Grassroots organizing provides similar tools to grow a community, like toolkits to run events in your own area. Many women involved with Ladies Get Paid are running for office and starting political-related businesses because they know they have a community of like-minded women behind them; one major example is now-Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. 3 Key Points: A major factor to the success of a startup is avoiding indecision. Don't ask to pick someone's brain, but ask specific questions instead. Look to political campaigns and grassroots organizing for methods to grow your events related business and community. Tweetable Quotes: “What I'm good at is starting something but not necessarily growing it... So I knew I was on the right path, but I needed someone to illuminate the path a little more so I could get there quicker, and that's when I realized I had to find a partner.” –Claire Wasserman “A small thing you do can end up having a huge impact on another person, who in turn impacts even more people.” –Claire Wasserman Resources Mentioned: Claire Wasserman: https://www.clairewasserman.com/ (Website), https://www.instagram.com/clairewassermanxo/ (Instagram), https://www.linkedin.com/in/clairewasserman/ (Linkedin) https://www.ladiesgetpaid.com/ (https://www.ladiesgetpaid.com/) Travis King: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travisking1 (Linkedin) http://communitybuildershow.com (communitybuildershow.com) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
