In fact, he's won a number of awards including two for his mentorship to Service Nation Advisory Boards. He writes articles for Contractor Magazine. Before Ed sold O'Connell Plumbing, he was named Service Round Table's Contributor of the Year. Community and giving back are of utmost importance to Ed. After I was first introduced to my next guest, Andrew Biernat, he told my producer, “This guy sounds like me in 24 years!” Which I couldn't help but take as an extreme compliment. Andrew describes himself as an ‘Infectious Energizer,' Christ follower, devoted husband and father, and The Buffalo Bills #1 Fan. Like me, Andrew has a history of alcohol addiction. Unlike me, he celebrates 7 years sober this week. Congratulations Andrew! Andrew shares the story of when he discovered that he was very good at drinking. Then how he realized his new 'skill' led to many missed opportunities and finally how a 90-day pledge to stop drinking turned into 7-years of sobriety and an incredible life journey.Enjoy this deep dive into the topic of sobriety titled 'Man in the Mirror' after the song sung by the late great Michael Jackson. You can reach out to Andrew here:On Linkedin: linkedin.com/in/andrewjbiernatVia his website: podcast.andrewbiernat.com

Episode 12 of Never By The Book features Sylvia Hampel. We're calling this episode, “Me Before (Hashtag) #Me Too.” Sylvia Hampel knows all about adversity and overcoming the odds. At birth, Sylvia was adopted into an abusive home environment. She started working to earn money for her own clothes at age nine, then, shortly after getting her first job in a fast-food restaurant at age 15, was sexually molested by her supervisor. As a result, she found herself pregnant as a sophomore in high school. To escape her abusive home life, Sylvia moved out with her infant daughter, working several jobs to support them. She was able to graduate with her high school class with honors. Her amazing story goes on from there and could easily be made into a Hollywood blockbuster. There’s a lot Kelly dives into in this episode, but it's important to note that just last year, Sylvia sold a company she started in 1995 simply as a way to support her family. When she sold it last August, Sylvia had grown Clearview Cleaning Service to 18 Million in annual revenue with over 500 employees in four states. Sylvia is an advocate on behalf of women entrepreneurs and will be sharing her inspirational story of success through hope, determination, and some lessons learned along the way.
