We are finally back after a long hiatus! We moved to a new location in January and have been searching high and low for the perfect, dedicated group of role-players to have on our show, and we've finally corralled them all together for a campaign set in the classic D&D setting, Eberron. Eberron was originally released as a 3.5 D&D and setting back in the early 2000's, but it has gotten a new life in the 5th edition rules setting with the release of the Wayfarer's Guide to Eberron. Kerry and Kristy Cutsforth go over their thoughts after running/playing in a mini-campaign of Trudvang Chronicles and give their own recommendations and suggestions for those new to the game. Also, we talk a bit about what we plan to work for our show in the future (hint, there are talks of Eberron...)

Fiasco is inspired by cinematic tales of small time capers gone disastrously wrong – inspired by films like Blood Simple, Fargo, The Way of the Gun, Burn After Reading, and A Simple Plan. You’ll play ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it will probably all go south in a glorious heap of jealousy, murder, and recrimination. Lives and reputations will be lost, painful wisdom will be gained, and if you are really lucky, your guy just might end up back where he started. FIASCO is an award-winning, GM-less game for 3-5 players, designed to be played in a few hours with six-sided dice and no preparation. During a game you will engineer and play out stupid, disastrous situations, usually at the intersection of greed, fear, and lust. It’s like making your own Coen brothers movie, in about the same amount of time it’d take to watch one. In this week's episode, after hightailing out of a party that Cannibal Death Cult was playing at, our group of kids nearly ran over a strange boy without a jacket during a snowstorm. They tracked him down through the forest and there were flashlights and gunshots. Joel gets launched against a tree when he threatens the boy, this kid is really weird. They got back to the truck and were being chased by roided out and mutated pitbulls. We left off last episode at Lance's house, with a loud banging on the door in the dead of night....who is out there and who is this mysterious kid? Why are some members of the town wearing mysterious bandages on their foreheads? Listen to find out! Game Overview from Renegade Studios: "In Kids on Bikes, you'll take on the roles of everyday people grappling with strange, terrifying, and very, very powerful forces that they cannot defeat, control, or even fully understand. The only way to face them is to work together, use your strengths, and know when you just have to run as fast as you can." Buy Kids on Bikes RPG: www.renegadegamestudios.com/kids-on-bikes-book We are setting our game in a small, middle class town in Colorado in the year 1985....the town is far enough away from Denver to have very little going except for skiing, which the town depends on for their lively hood. Ruby Weaver's family owns a older ski-resort with a giant fiber-glass penguin that was built in the 1950's and is really starting to show its age. Recently, a new ski lodge opened in town and her family is currently struggling to make ends meet and compete. Also, the town is infamous for a statue in the town square made for the notorious alleged cannibal, a pioneer (who is less famous than the Donner party)named Alfred Packer. Also, the town is trying to get over the bad publicity following a string of murders that have taken place in the town over the last few years. GM- Jason Valetta Players: Kristy Cutsforth (Ruby; brother died in a tragic accident, she thinks he was murdered. Used to try to be popular and hang in his circle, but now she's alone a lot and is channeling her anger into playing keytar in Joel's metal band.) Kerry Cutsforth (Joel; tall scrawny metal kid who has a reputation as a drug dealer after taking the fall for his friend Lance.) Danny Gilitzer (Steve; a popular cross country skier, friend of Ruby's dead brother. A social chameleon, he's just trying to figure stuff out.) James Shannon- (Lance; a young provider, he is working for the city to make ends meet so he can be his little brother Pete's guardian. Sells drugs as a way to pay the bills). Our coterie finally locates Grace Maloy, Slater's teenage sister who inadvertently became part of a Setite blood cult going under the disguise of the Appalachian Pentecostal Baptist Church. They were holding some kind of reformative hiking retreat that really was a cover for breaking down these women mentally and physically so they can move onto to the mysterious phase 2. They locate the other part of the Black Spiral pack they fought earlier along with Grace and another, mystery werewolf in lupus form, chained up. Will Grace be able to handle all this supernatural stuff and will she be able to trust Slater enough to help her escape? We are playing the 3rd edition of Unknown Armies, a game about humanity, where obsessed people go after what want they want and work together as a cabal. The characters will get thrown in supernatural events far above what they are ready to handle and their actions will have lasting consequences. This is the last episode before we have a brief hiatus from the game as our GM will be in the process of moving to his amazing new house. We will back after a brief interlude and in the meantime we will be playing Trudvang Chronicles, so stay tuned for that! Before our hiatus, we find out why Odelia disappeared and one of our own falls victim to the dark and dangerous occult underground that our cabal has gotten mixed up in. Everyone is in way over their heads and we haven't even begun to solve the demonic mysteries over at Morningstar Solutions. Will our cabal survive long enough to figure out why there is a movie that shows horrific alternate realties or will they become yet another casualty of the the cosmic forces of Unknown Armies? This is our first official game of Coriolis: Third Horizon! The mechanics are player focused and use an easy d6 dice pool mechanic where 6s equal successes. In this episode, we meet the crew of the Scheherazade (a junk ship from the planet on the Reachward Rims, Yastapol), captained by Afsha, a young 17 year old pilot who takes on a colonizing mission in order to improve her ship. In this episode, after having his costume shop broke into and having a very suspicious cop hanging around the shop, claiming that other stores have been broken into (when they haven't), Julius is on edge. Julius and Odelia were trying to distract a doctor so that their companions, Gabriel, Steve, and Elgin could break into his home and steal a valuable book. A month has passed since our troupe has become one of the Kindred and this episode covers their downtime activities in the interim as well as setting the scene for the racial tension brewing in the city over several unarmed black citizens getting shot and killed for very basic traffic violations. In my version of Chicago By Night, I changed the gangs featured in the Chicago By Night books from the Crips and Bloods to the Mickey Cobras and the Gang Disciples because, if you do any research into gangs in Chicago, the Crips and Bloods actually weren't as prominent in this area as were these other gangs, institutions in the city since the late 40's. Also, we find out what Lodin does to retaliate against the Anarchs and we find out that there may be a mole within the group who tipped the Sheriff off to the location of their meeting. I'm bringing you a review of a game that we will be starting up for the podcast in August, Trudvang Chronicles; a game from Riot Minds Games, a Swedish based company who has rebooted this system that has been around since 1982! They first acquired rights to what was formerly called Demons and Dragons and revamped the setting to become a mix of Scandanvian, Nordic, and Icelandic folklore. The artwork is beyond evocative and beautiful and setting is an incredibly unique take on the fantasy genre with with a dark and mysterious edge, so if you want a break from Dungeons and Dragons, check out my review on why you should play Trudvang: Chronicles! Purchase Trudvang: Chronicles: https://www.riotminds.se/product-category/trudvang-chronicles/ Note: I was sent the books for review purposes and to play on our podcast, but I'm not being compensated in any way to review or promote the game. I simply enjoy it and actually reached out the company because I want them to get more exposure in the U.S.!

Chicago, Illinois is one of the more prominent cities in the Classic World of Darkness. First detailed in Chicago by Night, the city served as the signature city not only for Vampire: The Masquerade but for the rest of the World of Darkness to follow. In our Chronicle, all the player characters are starting out as humans (we are using the Bootcamp Storytelling method); this is a "day in the life" episode where we get to know the locals who hang out at the Cabezon Cafe in Greektown. We have a pretentious sculpture student named Johnny Graves who is hot for teacher; a grizzled beat cop named Officer Lynch, who has an informant named "Shiny Willie"; Charlotte is a "Girl Friday" at her paper, The Chicago Tribune who rides a sweet Indian bike; Attila is a member of the Hells Angels' that runs drugs throughout the midwest; Slater is a computer hacker who swears he's being followed; Sunshine is deaf and is the owner of the Cabezon Cafe who gets an ominous note; and Sandra is a social worker trying to avoid the burnout of a thankless job while helping those in her community. In this episode, Charlotte gets caught up in the burgeoning anarch movement happening in Chicago and must decide if she will become a vampire before Sheriff Balthazar and his Archon, Grady, break into the room, more than likely killing her (as she's the only human around). Sunshine gets invited aboard The Spirit of Chicago (a yacht on Lake Michigan) for a high roller game of Black Jack by the mysteriously dark beauty, Isabella Giovanni. To her horror, she finds out what has happened to her mother and her brother as she is trapped onboard with no one, but two powerful vampires, caught between their rivalries. No one throws a party quite like a Toreador party. Johnny, having been newly embraced by Alyssa Morgan, is being tested by his sire at Annabelle's monthly Toreador gala. The party happens on a tranquil and beautiful autumnal September evening in Chicago's Osaka Gardens. Sharon Payne (a party planner/floral arranger) has been tasked to create this lovely event, complete with hundreds of paper lanterns and "entertainment" including the graceful ballet of recent embracee, Daniella Ayes, a Brazilian beauty who is a professional ballet dancer for the Chicago Ballet. Annabelle is horrified when her boy-toy, Bret Stryker, strips off his clothes and tries to provide the crowd with his own brand of erotic entertainment. Michael keeps trying to ruin his ex's party....Nero plays an exquisitely dark and dreary tune that shifts the mood of the party, and Johnny has been charged with digging up dirt on Annabella to prove he's worthy of being in the Toreador clan. Bear with us, we had some technical difficulties and lost 1 1/2 episodes due to my cat Tucker sleeping on our laptop and also due to garage band crashing during the first hour of this week's game. But, I give a recap, so you won't miss out on any of the story stuff. Sorry about that guys, but we managed to capture the Addams brothers, two mortal brothers who have started up their own cabal in their basement and have no idea they have invited two Tremere vampires to join them in their occult dealings. After this game, we will be jumping forward a month in time so the vamps will learn the basics about their clans and the Kindred condition and will be forming up their coterie and joining in a on a Brujah rant! Stay tuned for more oWoD to come....I will be sharing the player's downtimes over on our Patreon if you want to see what they get up to in a month in Chicago as new vampires.
Castle Falkenstein is a steam-age, Victorian fantasy role playing game that was a cult classic from 1994, originally written by legendary game designer, Mike Pondsmith. The game is getting somewhat of a reboot over at Fat Goblin Games with new supplements and books written by my friend and fellow game designer, James Gray! We will be testing out some "shocking" new fangeled dice mechanics which may upset some Castle Falkenstein purists (only cads and scoundrels play dice), but I think the dice mechanics will definitely bring a new audience to this evocative steam age, Victorian fantasy game. As of the release date of this podcast, the dice mechanics are still being written up and haven't officially been released yet, but they will available soon. Make sure to follow Fat Goblin Games over on Facebook for updates. Also, we still do make use of the Fortune Deck with poker chips in different colors representing the various suits and determining how many dice you can roll based on your specific ability score. Each player also gets two major arcana cards at the beginning of the session that create dramatic twists and turns in the story (using the Second Tarot Variation: An Alternative Fortune Deck for Castle Falkenstein). This game is set in New Orleans in 1876 and our Dramatic Characters are all members of the Theosophical society, a society heavily involved in Spiritualism, Science, and Philosophy and founded their leader, Helena Blavatsky. The setting involves dark subject matter, such as the murderess Delphine LaLaurie and race relations in the South post-Civil War, so keep that in mind before listening to the podcast. If you want any of the house rules I am developing (including an alternate healing option) and a Character Sheet designed by the hosts (Kerry and Kristy Cutsforth), and want access to the Character Creation episode, please consider supporting us over at our patreon account, we'd greatly appreciate it!
