It's weird how many songs the Beatles have that aren't "hits" but are still universally loved. It seems everyone knows and loves "I've Just Seen A Face," despite never being a single and never appearing on the big compilations. Maybe it's just one that's found a way to sink its' teeth into anyone who's ever known the rush of new love. Maybe it's just one of those classic Paul melodies. Maybe it's the kind of country, kind of rock, kind of acoustic line it seems to walk so well. Maybe it's all of those. Either way, it's an absolute gem.Joining us this week is Jack Petruzelli, producer, songwriter, musician, and founding member of The Fab Faux, in addition to his work with folks like Rufus Wainwright, Joan Osborne, and more. He joins us to talk about what makes the Fab Faux work (they're probably the best Beatles tribute around, no wigs or costumes needed, just A-list players). We take a trip across previous rankings to question my sanity, while also discussing the upcoming Magical Mystery Camp (June 24-27), an all-inclusive, once-in-a-lifetime music vacation experience in the heart of the Catskills, exploring the music of The Beatles via performances, workshops, songwriting clinics and more! You can join the Fab Faux, Peter Asher, Joan Osborne, Laurence Juber and more, along with Beatle authors (and former RTB guests) Robert Rodriguez and Jerry Hammack, Ken Womack, and more in the Catskills for a Fab time! President Trump’s attempts to freeze federal dollars for “sanctuary” jurisdictions were thwarted in court last week. Where is the battle headed? The Supreme Court is considering two cases about public education this week. One involves the bar to prove discrimination related to disability, and the other involves state funding for a religious charter school. “Sinners” takes the box office for a second week, sparking debate about originality, biased media coverage, and what its success means for Hollywood’s future. Rufus Wainwright’s new album, “Dream Requiem,” is interwoven with Lord Byron’s poem “Darkness.” It’s partly inspired by Giuseppe Verdi, and is dedicated to Wainwright’s dog named Puccini.
The long-rumored Oblivion remaster was revealed and released on the same day this week, inspiring us to invite merritt k and Anthony Abatte for a chat about five other games that surprise-released on the same day they were revealed. Break song is Instant Pleasure as performed by Rufus Wainwright. Vidjagame Apocalypse theme by Matthew Joseph Payne.
On this special episode, Little Kids, Big Hearts host Todd Loyd chats with award-winning composer, lyricist & performer Lance Horne

Rufus Wainwright is a difficult artist to categorize at the best of times. As a musician, he's recorded pop songs, folk music, operas and stage musicals. But his new album, “Dream Requiem,” is a little different, even for him. It's a religious work inspired by a range of subjects, including a poem by Lord Byron, the music of Giuseppe Verdi, and his beloved late dog Puccini. He also managed to recruit Meryl Streep to narrate the project. Rufus joins Tom Power over Zoom to talk about the different influences behind “Dream Requiem,” his upbringing in Quebec, and how this project really mourns the death of the American Dream.

Gabriella Ferri - Sempre – (music Franco Pisano, lyrics Mario Castellacci 4. Dodo Hug & & Solis String Quartet – La statue du bronze (Eric Satie) 5. Rufus Wainwright, Marta Wainwright & Anna McGarrigle - Talk to me of Mendocino – (1998) (music+lyrics Kate McGarrigle)

There are always some central pillars to a great party playlist - songs that just work. One of those is the Joan As Police Woman song Holy City. The song is always an instant hit at parties, guaranteed to elicit excitable inquiries as to “who is this?”. That instant reaction. The song is a #1 hit in my family - one of those multi-generational family life tracks. But if Holy City is instantly likeable, with a great beat and a strong poppy hook, it's somewhat uncharacteristic of Joan's music, which is mostly the opposite: seductive slow burns that take their time to become loved. It's what Joan herself refers to as the eternal quandary of a life making alternative and original songs in today's music business. “A lot of people are just really busy and they don't have time to figure out what this incredible new music is that might require 10 listens until you're hooked”. Then again, after some time away from Joan's music, it was another of her singles that I was immediately drawn to, the smouldering, unhurried jazzy ballad Full Time Heist, from her new album Lemons, Limes and Orchids. This song, written as a cynical ode to one of life's chancers, is my song of 2024 and enters into the canon of my all time favourite songs. That's two for Joan and makes her increasingly one of my very favourite artists. Joan is the ultimate collaborator - entirely comfortable with creating in the moment no matter who she works with - and some of her collaborators have been bona fide music royalty, including Tony Allen, Rufus Wainwright and Damon Albarn (and also David Sylvian although their recording sessions have yet to see the light of day - something I only discovered after my chat with Joan). But an effective collaborator as she is, Joan makes her own records, literally. Right from the start her 2007 debut Real Life was entirely self-funded, subsequently shopped around to labels that would be willing to take it to market. She had a little bit of help for her first E.P. from - of all places an independent record shop in Derby, England. Indeed, store owner Tom Rose of Reveal Records created his own label just to get Joan's first songs on the market. Tom happens to be Joan's manager to this day. Going back through the catalogue, it is striking just how high the quality of Joan's solo output is, most notably her stunning Sophomore record To Survive (2008), the ultra-cool collaboration with Tony Allen and Dave Okumu The Solution Is Restless (released during the pandemic in 2021). And now Lemons, Limes and Orchids - yet another creative high water mark for an artist whose songs have a classic, timeless quality. The obvious question is how does such an uncompromising, singula artist even survive in today's content-flooded music business?“I practice daily to avoid the whole ‘compare and despair'. Keep the focus on myself and make the best music I possibly can and then I'm a happy person”. If she is happy, we should be too - and lucky to have her making such wonderful music. At trial and at sentencing, Lorenzo's many surviving victims testified against him, including the impactful statements made by Albert Perkins, who Lorenzo kidnapped and assaulted in February of 2000. The testimony and eventual plea deals made by both Schweickert and Lorenzo would provide great insight into their MOs and victimology. On this week's show, the hosts chew over Nightbitch, Marielle Heller's (Queen's Gambit, Can You Ever Forgive Me, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, MacGruber), fourth feature film. Amy Adam stars as “Mother,” a former artist who has given up her creative pursuits to care for her infant son full-time — a transition so taxing, that she begins dissociating and transforming into a dog at night. And while there's a lot to like here (it's an adaptation of Rachel Yonder's magical realism novel of the same name, for example), does the film ever achieve lift-off? Then, the three rip Black Doves to shreds, Netflix's latest espionage show starring Keira Knightly, Sarah Lancashire, and Ben Whishaw that has far too many plot holes to name (although, Stephen does try to.) On this week's show, the hosts chew over Nightbitch, Marielle Heller's (Queen's Gambit, Can You Ever Forgive Me, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, MacGruber), fourth feature film. Then, the three rip Black Doves to shreds, Netflix's latest espionage show starring Keira Knightly, Sarah Lancashire, and Ben Whishaw that has far too many plot holes to name (although, Stephen does try to.) Mindy and I talk about her excellent new album "Quiet Town" and other topics like being Geminis, Neilson Hubbard (who produced "Quiet Town"), Susan Ashton, writing sad songs, reading the comments, breaking the rules (and how it paid off). "Unbreakable Heart" The Texas-born Amber Martin has no regrets. The singer/songwriter has lived quite a life and it's one that found her moving coast to coast in the name of art. But geography aside, Martin moves relentlessly forward and doesn't look back with revisionist repentance. She'll tell you all about that, so let me fill you in on the other stuff. A brilliant and powerful singer with precise phrasing and improvisational smarts, Martin is a force of nature, her live shows punctuated by comedic tales, observational stories and a classic cabaret sensibility. Her career has a lot of highlights, so let me give you a partial list: She opened for Joan Rivers, sang with Sandra Berhnard, recorded with the Scissor Sisters, performed on Broadway, had several solo art residencies and starred in the live variety show Cassette Roulette with the Tony Award winning John Cameron Mitchell of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The follow-up to her AM Gold album, Martin's Unbreakable Heart is a wicked blast of classic country played with reverence and playful fun. From Devil Came Down The Dancefloor to I Want You To Be A Real Man, Unbreakable heart is played with precision, heart and a lively wink. The album features Mitchell, Rufus Wainwright and Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters. A writer, a singer, a choreographer, and a dancer, Amber Martin is also a fabulous conversationalist. We had a blast and I think you will, too. www.ambermartin.org www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

Trump's bizarre 39-minute music listening party looked like Walking Dead the musical. Leonard Cohen and Rufus Wainwright sent a cease and desist to the Trump campaign for spinning their song "Hallelujah" during the sway-break at the end of the so-called town hall. Polls show the race is tight but Vice President Harris holds a slight lead. VP candidate and Handmaid's Tale fan-boy, J.D. Vance blathered he felt bad for Usha, his wife who is Hindu, for dragging her to Christian church. Dementia Don crapped the bed, and most likely his Pampers, during yet another interview where the sickly, orange-faced-felon couldn't articulate policy points. Texas senatorial candidate Representative Colin Allred wiped the floor with his opponent Temu-Wolverine Ted Cruz during a debate. There was a big early voter turnout in Georgia. The northeast U.S. has been attacked by some of the worst mosquitoes ever. Fascist AI bots have flooded Elon's X with pro-GOP propaganda and the Russians continued their pro-Trump disinformation campaign.
VP Harris' holds a radio town hall with Charlamagne Tha God as she works to boost support among Black voters. Plus, Trump speaks at the Economic Club of Chicago where he was pushed to defend his ideas on tariffs. And Rufus Wainwright slams Trump for using his recordings at a campaign rally. Steve Kornacki, Dave Weigel, Errin Haines, David Drucker, Dan Nathan, Mark Zandi, Rufus Wainwright, Tim Miller, and Basil Smikle join the 11th Hour this Tuesday.
2 - Are there any men left to persuade for the Harris campaign? Or is their message too far gone from the average man, not just “incels” like the left-winger wants you to think. 205 - Jim Dillon tagged into a State Congressional race for his brother, and now he has been spending taxpayer money on christmas things and a Twitter controversy. What will it take to wake city Democrats up and not vote for the people who continue to perpetuate the same issues. 215 - Dom's Money Melody! 220 - Winner? 225 - More on Joe Concha, Kamala Harris, and whether her plagiarism will affect her election status. 230 - Who is Rufus Wainwright? Tom DiBello, Montgomery County Commissioner, joins us to give an update on how last night's rally went. How is the election integrity efforts in the county going? Can we stop the “Mister Softee” ballot harvesting truck? 250 - Lightning Round!
12 - Trump didn't freeze, Kamala. 1205 - Martha Raddatz doesn't care because she's holed up in her big DC estate. 1215 - Side question - something strictly suburban 1220 - Even Charlemagne tha God has questions about Kamala's policies in a new Trump ad. 1235 - Congressman Mike Waltz joins us today. How is his new book and where do all the proceeds go for it? Mike argues for more veterans in our Congress due to the fact that no matter what aisle they are on, they believe in this country. How insane is the border and Kamala's policy to allow inmates to have taxpayer funded transgender surgeries? 1250 - Taking your calls on the Trump rally and response from left-wing media. 1 - Scott Presler could not be more excited today. Scott touts the new voter enrollment numbers that heavily favor the Republicans thanks to his own work. He's not even just encouraging people to vote, he's getting them to bank their votes early! Is Scott Presler bigger than Taylor Swift here in PA? Who is Scott voting for? Who has better hair, Scott or Taylor? 115 - We play audio from a woman being affected by the gangs taking over her apartment complex in Aurora. 130 - The lovely Harris Faulkner joins the program and expresses her joy and optimism in the state of Pennsylvania. Which votes are Donald Trump not going to get? Harris explains the crowd that will never go for him and how Kamala is preaching the option of “freedom” to those voters. How is the interview with Trump tomorrow going to go? More on Kamala's faults and word salads. 145 - Which pie is the superior pie? 150 - Dan time, pie time. Jocelyn Si of Walt Disco and guest co-host Jason Earle (of The Marinade” podcast) join me in discussing “Poses” from Rufus Wainwright. Plenty of other discussion including finding one's voice in college, getting ready to tour with OMD in the states (in 2025, not in 2024), Bronski Beat, Nepo Babies, Death of Venice, welcome moments of horns, and "In A Graveyard" is I think the best Billy Joel song not written or sung by Billy Joel. Prove me wrong.I won't guarantee that you'll like the album. It was a slow burn for me. This one takes time to grow on you and, I get it, sometimes we don't have that time to invest in an album that maybe you're only marginally interested in.
