WELCOME BACK TO THE PODCAST! It has been quite some time since we have had some consistency on this podcast (and in life in general, amirite?). I hope you are doing as best as you can, and even though quarantine is still haunting all of us, sending y’all some good ass energy. This episode is just an introduction to us. You will get to know a few random facts about us on this episode, like who would Leslie would have on her talk show and what kinda music D had on his iPod in high school. It was a molcajete of things man, we were really tryna give y’all a few ounces of who we are and we hope you dig it! SEGMENTS OPEN VENT: On this segment we open up about anything and everything, if we want! We will be discussing the different things that either irked us or made us feel hella good! Whatever goes on this segment, it’s an uncensored space to vent about anything you would like. The vent is always open in the Sala. Today Leslie talked about some of the hurtles we all jump over when talking to lowkey ignorant family members talkin out their ass about racist shit on social media. Good shit Leslie. Tell em how it is! Daniel talked about Adele and how she pulled up on the internets with bantu knots and Jamaican bikini top…. Mess! She rly went all out when she could have chilled at the resort. Sorry about that but please follow DJ Agana and @fewandfarwomen to continue to see similar content of Bay Area women in the graffiti scene (and worldwide). LA SALA: Get comfortable cuz we will be chillin here during most of the episode. La Sala is our virtual living room and we are out here talking about anything and everything we wanna talk about. Every time we have a specific topic or two and will find ways of relating to each of you in some way shape or form, at least we hope so, lol! Good energy only in our Sala, honest shit with uncensored conversation. You love to hear it! In this Sala its just gonna be random questions about us going back and forth. Quite the vibe. LA GAVETA: Everyone - at least everyone being us - has had a gaveta (aka, drawer) where we keep random shit that kinda doesn’t fit anywhere else. And thats exactly what this is. I KNEW YOU’D COME BACK FOR MORE, LOL. On this episode of the podcast we have Sessle Sarpy joining us all the way from New York City. (Idk bout y’all, but I am seeing a trend here, lots of NYC guests…) Sessle Sarpy is the Creator/Founder of The Afro Latin Diaspora. He is a 25 year old artist, model, and now activist born and raised in Dallas, Texas to an Afro Cuban mother and bi-racial Creole father of Sicilian, Spaniard and African decent. He turned to activism when he faced hardships and discrimination in the modeling industry based on his skin color and identity. He built his organization 2 years ago through Instagram, which was dedicated to raise awareness on Afro Latinos, while educating and rebuilding Self Love targeting specifically young black women. His page went viral many times due to his unapologetic ways in fighting against anti-blackness in Latin America, while also making it fun and educational, which lead to the growth of his team and organization. With his platform he hopes to affect change in redefining how the world is exposed to the presence of blackness in Latin America. Do yourself a favor and go follow the IG page @theafrolatindiaspora for more. Its a team of 3 Afro-Latinx educators and creatives out here helping everyone come to accept this identity for themselves and for those around them. WELCOME TO ANOTHER EPISODE OF PlotTwist!!! WE ARE BACK FROM OUR TINY LITTLE BREAK WE HAD. DIQUE MEDIA had a little end of summer/get yo life on track break so that we could hit y’all with some more energy and more life. On todays episode of the podcast I joined my friend Mara Watkins (@MusingsofMara on IG) and we spoke about a number of topics. During the interview we talked about consistency and being authentic. Sometimes on social media we tend to be one sided and only share what we want others to see (I am guilty for that). Mara answers some of the listener questions such as how she stays active in her sorority after college and how she landed her full-ride scholarship to law school at UNLV. Dimelo Daniel: - Atlanta Braves players Acuna Jr being held by Ozzie Albies. #ToxicMasculinity - White women calling the cops on black people. #BBQBecky #PermitPatty #Starbucks Stat Chat: - #MenAreTrash - Would you rather have someone ask you out by — sliding in the DMs VS In person? - Is it wrong to refer to women as females? - Once a cheater, always a cheater? It Goes Down In The DMs - Mara Talks to us about how her DMs are looking. Are they spicy? Or are they regular DMs from friends? AND tell a friend to tell they cool auntie, uncle, and auntle (that’s the genter neutral term for aunt/uncle… I guess “tix” could work in Spanish, lmao!!) TODAYS GUEST: Iron Glove Productions. The crew (Dominique Nieves, Amilcar Javier, and Kelvin Grullon) join all the way from the Big Apple in NYC to talk about their experiences of “acting while brown.” We had many different discussions and lots of listener questions. I AM SO SORRY FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY BROWN HEART if I did not get to them…. Although we did however answer many of them because that is just how the conversation went. Dominique Nieves is a Nuyorican actress, writer, producer, director and founder of Iron Glove Productions. As a filmmaker she aims to highlight imperative social justice issues by challenging audiences to examine unique perspectives. She has garnered prestigious awards as a filmmaker and her films are screening at major festivals including HBO's NYLFF. IronGloveProductions.com for tickets. SIDEBAR: There’s a little love story involving Dominque and the following guest… Anyway carry on... Amilcar Javier (also a part of Iron Glove Productions) is a New York City based actor training with Shae D'lyn at Humanity Studios. He is passionate about drama, comedy and improv. In addition to his career in film, television and theater, Amilcar is also a software developer. That’s a PlotTwist you weren’t expecting. Enough of the love doves, furthermore, Kelvin is a Latino actor from New York City who is honored to have launched his theater career in the one-man play The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, a show in which he plays 10+ characters from Junot Diaz's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. He's also known for the leading roles in the film A Nice Guy (Dominican Film Festival, HBO's NY Latino Film Festival), the TV pilot Guap, and has been featured on Mitú and MasMejorTV with Room28 Comedy. He received his actor training at Humanity Studios, where under the guidance of acting coach Shae D'lyn, he developed a strong acuity for playing impassioned leaders and tragic heroes. I for real hope yall enjoyed the interview portion, although I know it got a little lengthy, we just couldn’t stop talking. The vibe was real, or maybe we just like talking about ourselves? WELCOME BACK TO THE PLOTTWIST PODCAST !! I know it has been a minute since my episodes went up but we are back for another season but this time we are taking it to the next level… AIIIIIIIIIGHHT. On episode one we have Jazmine Danielle of Queendom Cultivation joining us to talk about crystal healing and wellness, mercury retrograde, and what her brand is all about (including the background to her name) Whats Your PlotTwist: Jazmine mentions to us about how she shifted gears after graduating from grad school and was then laid off from her job. Confusing right? But she was resilient and bounced back and that is when she formed Queendom Cultivation her business she now does full-time, and (in her words) “it has never let [her] down.” The Stat Chat: Thicc Vs Slim Rihanna. THICCANNA wins. On my Instagram stories, every week I have polls everyone can participate in. 93% voted for Thicc Rihanna aka Thiccanna. We came to the conclusion that she is living her best thicc life. Who would you rather cuddle up with, T’Challa or Killmonger?: Jazmine was a little caught in the middle but in the end definitely says T’Challa. I however said his bumps all over his body might be little massage… If you’re the little spoon so it could work out. It Goes Down In The DMs: Nothing but professional business and affirmations from her customers. Listen in to see what she has to say about how her level of respect about her business has helped for the clean DMs. Jazmine is very approachable and shows nothing but unity and love so if you do become her future customer, don’t be afraid to slide in there and motivate her and have her keep pushing as an independent entrepreneur. MERCURY RETROGRADE IS WELL OVER AND WE ARE BACK WITH THE CONCLUSION OF SEASON 1 BEFORE SEASON 2 COMES THROUGH AND SWEEPS US UP. On this conclusion episode I decided to give y’all the 10 things I have learned while podcasting on behalf of the 10 episodes that were released in this season. Its so weird that season 1 is officially over. finitooooo. I thought it was never gonna end (in a good way) but we are on to bigger and better and badder things, the 3 B’s baby. here are the 10 Things I Have Learned While Podcasting: 1. no time like the present: why wait for things to perfectly fall in our lap? get your dream, vision, brand, ideas out there before your spark dims down. 2. its okay to say no: I think we are all programmed to think we have to say “yes” to so many people we know or might think we know. protect your emotional and mental labor that went into your work and take time to think about what you are giving out to others. this goes for anything in life. see how they move before you give more and more. 3. being an independent creative is exhausting but fulfilling: Okay, this one is kinda self explanatory. if you are a one person show, you will get tired out. but again, when ppl rock with it and compliment it. IT FEELS SO GOOD. 4. its okay if people don’t rock with your work//ride your own wave: everyone has their own taste and if you don’t meet theirs thats fine. they still admire your hustle. 5. believe and have passion in what you do: you gotta give birth to passion before others have passion for you and your work 6. you don’t fail anything if you try it out: if you haven’t ate sushi, you can’t tell me you don’t like it. 7. have fun: uhhhh, don’t be whack, don’t be lame. smile and laugh at your mistakes. 8. the 3 C’s (criticize, complain, compare): DON’T DO IT. pep talk your way into success. 9. keep expectations low, but quality as high as you can: one can only give his, her, their best and nothing more. 10. timeliness and organization: colored people timing… its something I have GOT TO CUT OUT. don’t we all?? AND THERE ARE MANY MORE TO COME: ** disclaimer: no shade to white ppl who are for real allergic to peanut butter and other things mentioned, lmao i still think y’all are allergic to hella random things, like grass and sun. anyways, thank you for listening. ** --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplotwist/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theplotwist/support
** Warning: NTSFW, to say the least ** Today on @ThePlotTwistPodcast we have Alex aka Picasso Gutierrez on the mic talking to us about his WORST VALENTINES DATE, what the most he spent on a Valentines Day. We learn a little bit about how it could be being Latino in the corporate world in the Bay Area. SOMETIMES our passion might not bring in the money at the moment, so then we are led to find a “real job” that does pay the bills and leave our passion on the side. This is what Picasso is doing but still keeping a focus on his artwork and brand. The PlotTwist in this episode is how he had to shift from a freelance lifestyle to a corporate mentality. REMEMBER, it is perfectly fine to follow your passions, but it is also okay to chase the money for the time being to stay above water. @itsjustatalk joined us on this episode and we had some everyday hilarious conversation with Picasso. “What would you do if you found out where adppted?” We talk about a little too much to even write about, so tune in stay for the whole time. Its a goodie. —————————————————————————— PlotTwist is a podcast where we talk about topics left unspoken by POC millennials.
