What can survivors who are feeling overwhelmed, depressed and traumatized do to recover, and how can friends and family help? It's important for survivors to know that they can regain a sense of power over those triggers, and that the most natural response is to push away the triggers. Self-care isn't about turning off those bad feelings, but feeling those feelings so that they can subside naturally. Last night I realized I have been shrinking myself, dimming my light and accommodating people for my entire life for so many reasons but one stood out and snatched my ass up. My name is Terricina L. Jackson however people never knew how to pronounce my name. I was given the nickname “Terra” to accommodate people who refused to take the time out to learn my name let alone me. It dawned on me that it sent a very detrimental message to my child self. I remember knowing exactly where my name fell on the attendance list to prevent people from saying my name incorrect I'd raise my hand and say, “Terra Jackson” because the shame was unbearable. Hmmmm I can still feel what that felt like. It made me feel like I had to adjust myself so that other people were okay despite how it made me feel. Terra was a character created for other people's approval as a child. That behavior spilled over into my adulthood. Last night, I vomited up that yuck literally and figuratively. Today, I reclaimed my power. Don't call me “Terra” my name is Terricina. Can you relate? All new podcast this evening at 6pm est. Let's talk about it!!! Tune in this evening for a new episode of “The Sacred Space,” where myself and Craig Samuels embark on a journey of uncovering the secrets that kept our families sick and yours too. We're "Healing Dysfunctional Families." Craig is a life & mental wellness coach, author and speaker. Y'all cannot afford to miss this. Craig has changed my life in one short week. You can grab a copy of his best seller, "My Mother's Guilt, My father's Sin: The Death Of Innocence" available on Amazon. My Mother's Guilt, My father's Sin: The Death Of Innocence, is a recapitulation of the trials of growing up in an African American environment of dysfunction causing trauma. It is a skillful rendition of a real life situation that is all too common yet seldom discussed. A picturesque portrayal of a troubled family is what the author has presented while also showcasing a mournfully beautiful pen, accompanied by a powerfully consuming vivid imagery of domestic realism. Craig Samuels has produced a script that allows the reader to experience hope amid dire circumstances that dimmed but never snuffed out the light of his existence. Aside from the pages being replete with words of wisdom, it is also highly therapeutic and encouraging. You will not be disappointed. https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-Guilt-Fathers-Sin-Innocence/dp/0998829544/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=My+Mother%27s+Guilt%2C+My+father%27s+Sin%3A+The+Death+Of+Innocence&qid=1558022481&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thesacredspace/support

Tune in this coming for a new episode of “The Sacred Space” with special guest Malika L. Anderson The balance is HER. In 2012 I was diagnosed with 4th stage Lupus and end-stage kidney failure. I went into a series of the most difficult events of my life. Traditional non-natural solutions that were not working. I took matters into my own hands as I started to heal myself with homemade potions, herbs, and nutrition. I lost all my hair in chemotherapy, created a miracle potion, and grew it back 10x stronger and longer in record time (it's available too!). My family has been into herbal diets, nutrition, and holistic healing for 4 generations. I also come from a rich family line of teachers and healers and master gardeners, so I have a diverse understanding of natural products. I started Her Balance because of that understanding and from the influence of my mother. The rich matriarchal legacy continues with me, and I plan to teach as many people as possible. It is my desire to help women with natural and holistic beauty, wellness and healing products. It's not just about beauty, but also about wellness. It's about taking care of ourselves, loving ourselves and healing ourselves from the inside out. Everything that we create is handmade and custom blended. ALL NATURAL, ORGANIC and HOLISTIC. We work with organic farms locally to pick, grow, and resource from around the world with awesome distributors, many of which are from Africa. We hope to continue to encourage women to live authentically and balanced in their natural beauty. Her Balance is about restoring that balance. Thank you for joining us on this journey. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thesacredspace/support

Tune in TONIGHT as we discuss The Self Care Healing Journey After Surviving Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence with Nadejeh Minerva. Good self-care can be especially difficult for survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. However, self-care is an important part of the healing process and can help make the impacts of trauma more manageable. Nadejeh is a current student at Hampton University. She created #MSIB in part because of the loss of her cousin Danielle and grandmother Minerva. Her second reason is because as a survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence she understands the toll it can take on a woman's mind, body, and spirit. She wants every woman to thrive the way she as, but understands it's not easy to do alone. The #MyStrengthIsBeautiful Campaign first began as an idea in 2016 to founder Nadejeh Minerva. #MSIB took effect in 2017, building its way towards its goals and mission. #MSIB was started to empower women everywhere who have been affected by sexual assault and domestic violence. The organization is meant to empower the emotional, physical, mental, social, and professional development of a woman, and will eventually open its arms to assist men as well. #MyStrengthIsBeautiful's mission is, to change the way survivors are viewed by the world and the way they view themselves. This will be done through workshops, seminars, large scale events, and everyday outreach. #MyStrengthIsBeautiful believes that every young girl and woman deserves the chance to fulfill their purpose in life, and together it will be possible. www.instagram.com/msibforever https://www.msibforever.org --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thesacredspace/support

Meet the Founder Learn more about our President and Founder, a proud Boston Native Christian with a heart of gold! After receiving an offer to move to Georgia to be a live-in nanny for a family, Ms. Tré quickly realized that it would be up to her to make sure current family clients in the Washington, D.C. metro area were able to continue receiving the quality care she had gotten them accustomed to. Prior to her move to Georgia she gladly found quality associates to continue working with the families in her absence. Once in Georgia Ms. Tré decided to work towards creating a company that would provide care at large events to hopefully encourage more employees, staff and/or consultants to attend. Over time more families would ask her to help with supplemental in-home care for their loved ones, and so Mommy's Day Off was formed with 2 sectors, family and corporate. Ms. Tré is still a Freelance Nanny, and anyone that knows her will tell you that her passion for what she does shines bright with every encounter having to do with MDO. When you've been drowning in an endless cycle of work, taking care of others, managing a growing inbox and juggling a packed calendar, nothing sounds better than a sitting on the beach with your “out of office” on and a cocktail in hand, am I right? A vacation (or staycation) can do wonders for your well-being. That's a no-brainer. As appealing as zoning out completely might be, a mindful travel experience can be an even more powerful form of self-care. When you are truly present in a new place, engage with locals, and immerse yourself in the experience, you'll actually end up feeling happier and more fulfilled than if you ignored the world from your beach towel for a week. Why self-care is more important than ever. In today's context, self-care refers to how we take care of our mind, body, and spirit. It helps to prevent burnout, re-center ourselves, and protect our well-being so we're better able to show up for ourselves and others in our lives. Have you heard of the oxygen mask practice? The one about putting on your own oxygen mask before helping others? I remember when Oprah turned that airline safety protocol into one of the first mainstream calls to self-care. Now I imagine her shouting “You get a mask, you get a mask, everyone gets an oxygen mask!!!!!” There's a reason the obsession with self-care is growing. We live in a world that requires it.
