We're doing something a little different this week! We met with our friends Courtney and Stefanie from They're Terrified & Tipsy podcast and discussed the Zodiac movie from 2007. On the night of June 4th 2020, police were called to the home of 26-year-old Chantel Moore to do a wellness check. But what should have been an encounter to ensure her safety and well-being, ended in the murder and death of the very person the RCMP were called to protect, adding more scrutiny to be raised against police brutality and the systemic racism towards Indigenous people. This is the case of Chantel Moore. Canada has a very important day coming up on September 30th: Truth and Reconciliation Day. This was made a federal holiday on June 3, 2021 after the horrifying discovery of 215 unmarked child graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. In the summer of 2019, a nation-wide manhunt broke out in Western Canada, searching for Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky, two teenage boys who were on a killing spree. The case of Candace Stevens is about a small town murder of a young Indigenous woman from New Brunswick, whose body is found on the side of a dirt road. Initially, police weren’t naming any suspects. Ben Tyner was a 31-year-old True American Cowboy from Laramie, Wyoming. Full of life and adventure, Ben accepted a new job to manage Nicola Ranch in Merritt, British Columbia. In November 2018, he packed up his horses and dogs and made the move up north. It would only be three months later when Ben’s horse would be found in the backcountry 15 miles from his ranch, dressed in full tack... but Ben was nowhere to be found.
