We're doing something a little different this week! We met with our friends Courtney and Stefanie from They're Terrified & Tipsy podcast and discussed the Zodiac movie from 2007. They're Terrified & Tipsy is a comedy podcast that recaps and heavily judges a different scary movie each week. We love us some Mark Ruffalo, RDJ and Jake Gyllenhaal! This movie was LONG so you get a full 90 minutes with us today! You can also get to see us in action for the first time ever
It was just like any other work day in Oshawa, Ontario when a plumber was called to a rental home to fix a clogged drain. After locating the blockage, he began to snake the drain. But what should have been a quick fix, turned into hours. It wasn't about how it was taking so long; It was about what he was pulling out. The unknown substance was so disturbing, the plumber called 911. Because he believed what he was pulling out…was human flesh. On the night of June 4th 2020, police were called to the home of 26-year-old Chantel Moore to do a wellness check. But what should have been an encounter to ensure her safety and well-being, ended in the murder and death of the very person the RCMP were called to protect, adding more scrutiny to be raised against police brutality and the systemic racism towards Indigenous people. This is the case of Chantel Moore. Canada has a very important day coming up on September 30th: Truth and Reconciliation Day. This was made a federal holiday on June 3, 2021 after the horrifying discovery of 215 unmarked child graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. In just 4 months, 1836 total unmarked graves have been found. And combined with the 3,213 children who died according to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, that makes the total over 5,000. In the late 90s, a strange man appeared out of no where in London, England. In 1987, Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg were young and in love. The high school sweethearts decided to leave their hometown of Victoria, British Columbia, to go on a quick road trip to Seattle—and that's where everything went wrong. Both of their bodies were found miles away from each other in different cities in Washington. With no apparent motive, zero suspects, and very little evidence, the case went cold for THIRTY years. Until... in 2018, forensic genealogy revealed the first person of interest in the case, and police moved in fast on this man to prove he was the murderer. There are so many twists and turns in this tragic case, and Chelle and Lisa discuss it all on Whose Crime is it Anyway? Long before the days of Paul Bernardo and Robert Pickton, a predator lived amongst us prowling the streets of Vancouver's suburbs, luring children into his car with promises of work and money. None of these innocent children knew their fate when they closed that car door. They were now in the clutches of pure evil. In a span of 8 months, this monster had killed 11 children until he was finally caught. In the summer of 2019, a nation-wide manhunt broke out in Western Canada, searching for Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky, two teenage boys who were on a killing spree. The murders were random and appeared to be crimes of opportunity, with no apparent motive or reason behind them. Claudette Osborne was in danger. And after making several desperate phone calls to her family and a disturbing voicemail, she went missing. But this isn't the only tragedy the Osborne family has suffered...Not only are all the women in today's episode Indigenous, they are ALL related. This week's case is a stark reminder of the ongoing epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada AND the United States. It’s a race, identity and gender based genocide that cannot be ignored. A recent inquiry found that Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be murdered or to go missing than members of any other demographic group in Canada. With our podcast, we try to shed a light on these cases because they don't receive nearly enough media coverage and are extremely underrepresented and underacknowledged.
