Welcome to Cryptic Soup, your after-dark podcast. In this week's episode, join Thena and Kylee for the story of Dellen Millard and Mark Smich. Dellen was cold and calculated, thinking he was going to get away with a triple murder. Laura Babcock was listed as a missing person, Tim Bosma was missing, and Wayne Millard was a suicide. Dellen was innocent right? Just someone who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, because he wasn't sloppy enough to make these kind of mistakes… or so he said. Episode 319: In the first two parts of our Shadows of Deception series, we delved into the abysmal depths of depravity exhibited by Dellen Millard and Mark Smich through the heinous murders of Tim Bosma and Laura Babcock. With Millard and Smich already incarcerated for their previous atrocities, a new investigation was launched into the 2012 death of Dellen's father, Wayne Millard, a wealthy aviation businessman. Initially presumed to be a suicide, the circumstances surrounding his demise came under intense scrutiny after his son's sensational arrests for the Bosma and Babcock murders. After their investigation, authorities arrested Dellen Millard and charged him with the first-degree murder of his father. This shocking twist cast a sinister shadow over the already grim narrative, painting Dellen Millard as a far more depraved criminal than initially realized – one willing to extinguish even the life of his own flesh and blood. It appears that Dellen Millard is a cold-blooded individual who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. Episode 318: In the previous episode, we explored the shocking murder of Tim Bosma and the subsequent trial that brought two killers to justice. However, their trail of violence did not end there. In this second installment of our three-part series, we delve into the tragic case of Laura Babcock, 23, whose July 2012 disappearance from Toronto was eventually attributed to Dellen Millard and Mark Smich. We'll learn a bit about Laura's life and examine the circumstances surrounding her vanishing and the painstaking yet unsuccessful search efforts to uncover her remains. You'll hear disturbing details that emerged during the trial for her murder, shedding even more light on the twisted dynamics between Millard, Smich, and their unfortunate victim. This episode serves as a prelude to the final chapter, where we'll explore the most shocking revelation of all, that Dellen Millard also killed his father, Wayne, for his money. Episode 317: Tim Bosma, a 32-year-old family man from Ancaster, Ontario, went missing in May 2013 after taking two men for a test drive of his truck. The two men were later identified as Dellen Millard, a 27-year-old heir to a Canadian aviation empire, and Mark Smich, a 24-year-old drug dealer and aspiring rapper. This case would expose the disturbing reality of Millard and Smich's cold-blooded violence and web of deceit. The investigation into Bosma's disappearance was just the beginning of uncovering the harrowing events surrounding Millard and Smich. In 2012, before Bosma's murder, they had killed Millard's 23-year-old ex-girlfriend, Laura Babcock. Later that same year, they shockingly took the life of Dellen's father, Wayne Millard. As the details of the Tim Bosma case unfold, the stage is set for the equally horrific events of the murders of Laura Babcock and Wayne Millard to come to light in parts 2 and 3 of this true crime series. The disturbing stories of these two killers, Dellen Millard and Mark Smich, reveal a chilling trail of devastation left for the families and communities impacted by their callous acts of violence. Dellen had it all going for him but him and his new friend find each other in the crossing of paths and decided that they wanted to steal a truck. This would all lead to murder, and then the discovery...of more murders! Murder And Millionaires - Listen To The Case On Dellen Millard and Mark SmichKURIOUS - FOR ALL THINGS STRANGE
This week on WDDD? Sarah brings us the second and final part of these tragic and pointless Canadian murders. The Millard family were known in Toronto for their wealth and family-owned aviation company, Millardair started by Carl Millard in 1963. 60 years later, their legacy is besmirched but not forgotten. While the Millard name may no longer be known in connection with aviation or business, it surely rings bells for locals when it comes to one particular serial murdering rich boy. Part 2 of this story touches on Dellen and Mark's depraved plan to cowardly lure and thrill-kill a young family-man with no enemies and everything to live for. The realization of which leads to the discovery of yet another senseless murder! Never underestimate the lengths an evil, rich man-child and his henchman will go to purely to entertain themselves. TRIGGERWARNUNG: Gewalt an Frauen O Canada, o Canada. Who's charter rights matter more in this country? In the case of Dellen Millard and Mark Snitch, it's going to be in the news all week and if you listen to the parents... if people like that have no hope, why should their daughter's killers have hope? The courts tell us they must have hope, which is why in part the killers are appealing their case this week to get their convictions tossed out, as well as their stacked sentences. Alex touches on this, as well as other topics of the day, on today's episode of the Alex Pierson Show. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Toronto police is scaling back its overtime deployment of officers on the TTC; a panel of judges in Ontario's highest court is hearing Dellen Millard and Mark Smich's appeal of their murder verdicts; and, here's how Peel police recovered a sacred ceremonial headdress after the Jeep it was stored in was stolen by car thieves.
Dellen Millard and Mark Smich are two of the world's biggest fuck boys, and unfortunately cold-blooded killers. Dellen, better known as "Dell", had everything in his life served to him on a silver platter and never bothered to finish much of anything. Mark Smich lived a life carrying out petty thefts and selling single cigarettes outside of a high school he no longer went to. The two of these assholes crossed paths due to some catastrophe in the stars and decided that they wanted to steal a truck. Their plan of doing so would lead to murder and an investigation that would uncover several other mysterious deaths.Thank you to the vivacious David White for research assistanceReferencesAlamenciak, Tim. 2013.
Welcome to the four-part miniseries on Canadian serial killers. In part 1, we'll be discussing Dellen Millard, who was not your typical serial killer. Dellen had a loving family, lots of opportunities and was wealthy growing up- but all that didn't stop him from becoming a murderer. If it wasn't for his arrogance and a few missteps he may have gotten away with it all and maybe even continued to kill. This is the story of a man who eluded capture by police until he already took the lives of three innocent people and how pure evil can truly come in any form. Marcus Aurelius once wrote, “A man's worth is no greater than the worth of his ambitions.” Most of us want to aim high in our lives, chase our sparkliest dreams. Today's story focuses on a man who had big ambitions—and unlike most of us, he was born into the kind of wealth that could have opened just about any door in the world for him. From the time he could talk, his parents made sure he knew he was their little golden princeling, a chosen one entitled to take the world by storm—shoot through life like a comet. He could have become anything he wanted. But what he wanted to be was a killer. Why are we hearing so much controversy surrounding Taiwan and China's anger over US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan? What is China and Taiwan's relationship like and could we see a similar situation to Russia's invasion of Ukraine? Guest: Dr. Charles Burton, Senior Fellow, Centre for Advancing Canada's Interests Abroad, Macdonald-Laurier Institute - Why would a journalist agree to speak with Dellen Millard who, along with Mark Smich, was convicted of murdering Laura Babcock and Tim Bosma? What does a killer have to gain by speaking to the media? Scott gets answers to these questions and more with the help of Adrian Humphreys. Guest: Adrian Humphreys, Reporter, National Post & Host, The Mob Reporter - There are a lot of people who look back at the original Woodstock music festival through rose coloured glasses. This was so much so that there was an attempt to do it again in 1999 for what's become infamously known as Woodstock '99. What went wrong? Was the original Woodstock really that good? Let's open our history books and take a look back in time with Alan Cross. Guest: Alan Cross, Music Historian & Host, The Ongoing History of New Music
Tim Bosma disappeared in 2013 after leaving home with two men to test drive a truck he was selling online. Police eventually charged Dellen Millard and Mark Smich with murder. Not long after, they discovered this wasn't Millard's first time killing. National Post reporter Adrian Humphreys followed the story for years, including interviewing Millard in prison. He reflects on the systemic failures that saw Millard evade justice for years, and how the Bosma family changed his own outlook on life. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Spoiler Warning: This is the 3rd (and final) episode of a mini-series. Listen to Episodes 40 & 41 first. A serial killer now convicted of 2 murders in the first degree is looked at as a possible suspect in his father's death. 71-year-old Wayne Millard was found dead of a gunshot wound in November 2012. His sudden death was initially ruled a suicide; until his son, Dellen was arrested for the murder of an Ancaster man, Tim Bosma. In this episode, we'll discuss the murder of Wayne Millard and explore the “why” behind Dellen Millard's motives to kill. Spoiler Warning: Listen to Episode 40: The Murder of TIm Bosma first. Here we have another instance where an adult goes missing, and police write it off as a runaway situation. 23-year-old Laura Babcock was last heard from in early July 2012 and family and friends knew she wouldn't just walk off. Despite their efforts to file a missing person report and interview the last-known person to speak to Laura, they were unable to find her. But then in May 2013, the last-known person to speak to Laura was arrested for the murder of Tim Bosma. This is the story of a “bubbly” daughter, sister, friend, and dog-mom that hit a rough patch in life and turned to someone she trusted for help. How police made assumptions about that rough patch and didn't follow through to find her. And how those assumptions ultimately led to the murders of 2 men. Dellen Millard and Mark Smich were arrested for the murder of Tim Bosma; and it was only then, that police looked into Laura's disappearance.
