Episode 262: In early March of 1946, John Dick, a 39-year-old streetcar conductor in Hamilton, Ontario, disappeared. Weeks later, five local children found John's torso on the city's outskirts — his head and limbs were missing. Suspicion soon fell on John's wife, Evelyn, who was arrested and charged with the murder. The pair had had a whirlwind courtship and had been married only months before John turned up dead. During the investigation, police discovered the body of a newborn encased in concrete in Evelyn Dick's father's attic. At her trial, evidence emerged of her volatile relationship with her husband, multiple extramarital affairs, and allegations of other criminal activities, including involvement in the alleged murder of her child. Despite her claims of innocence, Evelyn was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Her story was not close to over. Sources: 1947 CanLII 12 (ON CA) | R. v. Imagine: You're a kid again, playing in the nearby woods out in the middle of nowhere. As your friends tumble through the weeds of a small stretch of land off the escarpment, you find what you believe to be a decapitated corpse of a pig. This would be the dark and terrifying reality of 5 children the day of March 16th, 1946 on the outskirts of Hamilton Ontario. Shocked, and with no explanation, this corpse turns out to be the torso of a man named John Dick. With much more to uncover, this would be a crime that would ripple the town of Hamilton through the ages. This is the case of the Black Widow, Evelyn Dick.

When children found the torso of a missing man - John Dick - in Hamilton, Ontario, they quickly focussed on his estranged wife Evelyn Dick. What they didn’t expect was to find another dead body in the attic of the home she shared with her mother. The axe murder of a woman and her infant grandson in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray in 1944 was a little close to home for one of our podcast community.

In episode 3 of Season 3, we will discuss one of the most sensationalized criminal events in Canadian history. Evelyn Dick (aka The Torso Killer) was a stunningly beautiful woman who basically grew up in a society where her looks would get her whatever she wanted. Even in the end, there was something about her that kept her from really serving time for her crimes. At the age of 24/25, she murdered and mutilated her husband...leaving only his torso on "The Mountain" (at Niagara Falls). What investigators discovered in her home though; was just as disturbing. She ended up not serving time for her estranged husband's death AND only 11 years for manslaughter of her second victim. So, who was the second victim? And what happened to her once she was paroled? IF alive today, she is 99 years old.Check out our website: https://www.naturevsnarcissism.com to find sources, merch, and much more!

In Episode 12 Season 2, Holly and Gemma cover two tales of Black Widows (the ladies not the spider, because Holly nopes out of anything spider related). Holly starts off with the tale of the 'dull normal' Evelyn Dick and Gemma talks about Mary Elizabeth Wilson who totally liked an alternative lifestyle. In this episode, Taylor and Trey can't stay on topic to save their lives. Trey's suggestion of discussing women who kill their abusers went flying out the window when he chose to cover the story of the infamous Evelyn Dick, a woman who had more men than Imelda Marcos had shoes. Taylor, however, chose a topic to fit the prompt, and discusses Brigitte Harris. A true heroine of the people. Honestly, both stories were chosen so they could say the word "dick" a LOT. But really, are you surprised?
