Science Of Sales Podcast (for Rural)

This week we talk to my good mate Richard Alderton who is an expert in Adaptability Coaching. Richard is a former CEO of DeLaval TetraPak and worked with GlaxoSmith Kline, Boots and now advises the NHS on adaptability. We talk about how traditional change management doesn't change anything and why adaptability works (focussing on the software of people) when change management doesn't (the hardware of management). Richard shares his 3 step process for adapting: curiosity, courage and velocity as we all try to manage this VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world we live in. He also teaches you how to manage but more importantly overcome the two biggest barriers and emotional expressions when we face change: fear and anxiety. This is a good one to end on for 2022 which has been one hell of a rollercoaster and get set for 2023. This week and last week on The Business Couch with Dr. Yishai, I had Jared Seide, founder and Executive Director of Center for Council, a nonprofit organization that trains groups and individuals to promote wellness and resiliency, to foster compassion and to build community. Our Insight Sunday conversation was so expansive and deep, that we had a three-part series so we could share the full depth and breadth of lessons from Jared. In part one, Episode 209, Jared talked about how to reduce and prevent overwhelm and burnout, even in some of the most difficult, tragic, or trauma-filled spaces. We also talked about how to turn an unhelpful “power dynamic” into an “empower dynamic,” and how to be authentic, professional, and still share with boundaries. In part two, Episode 210, we talked about how to create an environment, a culture, and a dynamic that fosters win-win-win problem-solving in ways that maximally meet the needs and goals of both leadership and workers. We also talked about how leaders can cultivate a style of leadership that generates the greatest return and productivity from employees. In part three, Episode 211, Jared shared lessons learned in working with law enforcement organizations on how listening and providing critical resources can change the experience, judgment, and outcomes in high-stress situations. At the end of our conversation, Jared asked me “how do we create a compelling case for prioritizing compassion in business?” So today, that's exactly what I'm going to be talking about. You'll hear stories, research, and perspectives on the value and impact, plus communicating it in ways that are more likely to be received, heard and responded to.  Research Links:https://searchengineland.com/the-cost-of-bad-communication-is-skyrocketing-what-cmos-need-to-know-380456https://www.hrcloud.com/blog/8-employee-engagement-statistics-you-need-to-know-in-2021#hhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/johnkotter/2011/02/10/does-corporate-culture-drive-financial-performance/?sh=3cd2c6b27e9e This episode is brought to you by Adaptability Coaching. This week on The Business Couch with Dr. Yishai, I had Steve Sims, known as “The Real Life Wizard of Oz.” Seve is an entrepreneur, speaker, and author of “Bluefishing: The Art of Making Things Happen.” Steve became widely known – a secret turned open secret – as the guy to call to make impossible magic happen. On Insight Sunday, Episode 187, Steve shares the mindset changes he made that moved him from construction worker to founder of the world's leading concierge firm creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences for corporate execs, celebrities, professional athletes, and private clients – including Sir Elton John, Richard Branson, and Elon Musk. We also talk about learning to ask the right questions to get the answers you need and the role of emotions – such as aggravation and curiosity – in his success and in successful entrepreneurship. On Story Tuesday, Episode 188, Steve shares a huge mistake he made when planning and attending Ferrari's 50th-anniversary party in 1997 and the lesson he learned became the cornerstone of his personal brand, his personal values, and his business success. If you haven't yet, go back and listen to episodes 187 and 188 to learn from a branding, development, and marketing whisperer who carved out a personal brand as the go-to person to create one-of-a-kind, never-happened-before-and-may-never-happen-again experiences for some of the most wealthy, classy, and private people in the world. At the end of our conversation, Steve asked me to share my thoughts and insights on shifting from being in a business mindset all day to being a family man – and vice versa – because entrepreneurs are constantly faced with switching between work and family. Going from one to the other on a dime can be a big challenge, and the demands of entrepreneurship and family can be overwhelming and tough to navigate. So today I'm talking all about how you can learn to transition to and from work, into family time and out of it, so you can be there for your family and continue growing your business. I'll give you a step-by-step process to improve your transitions and explain the principles that are based on research and practical application. This episode is brought to you by Adaptability Coaching.
