This podcast episode of Mostly Superheroes is a resource to provide a guideline for watching / reading Star Wars titles in the timeline order according to Star Wars canon. The term ‘Star Wars canon' refers to the collection of Star Wars media considered officially canon by Lucasfilm. We quickly reveal all canonical titles in this podcast episode and explain where those titles fall in the greater Star Wars story being told from the beginning of time to the very end. We will focus on the TV and Film as it is what we all experience most, but we will still highlight some book, video games, and reveal the overall Star Wars timeline. We are by far not the first to do this and we leaned heavily on the following resources to produce this episode. Join Mike as he takes a short trip to St. Louis, MO and one of the coolest shops around! Mike got a hot tip from Campus Comics Cast co-host, Shaad, about a hip comic shop practically in our backyard. That shop is Apotheosis Comics and Lounge, and if you thought going to comic shops couldn't get better, wait until you go to one with a bar serving your favorite beer or seltzer! Apotheosis Comics and Lounge is in the heart of St. Louis on South Grand Blvd., a beautiful and historic part of the city. It's locally owned and has a wide selection of current comic books, trade paperbacks and graphic novels, not to mention a great selection of local beers, cocktails and wines along with coffee and soda. And if you feel like it, you can have a pickup game of darts or come to one of their frequent comedy shows and game nights. The owner, Martin, is a busy guy...he's not only a successful business owner, he's heavily involved in the community, and still has time to be a comics fan! Martin has a gift of gab that made interviewing him an absolute pleasure. You are going to love the story he tells about...but wait...let's not spoil it. Let's just say it was worthy of being featured on a podcast called Dumbest Criminals. The next time you're in the Gateway City, take a trip to 3206 South Grand Boulevard and treat yourself to some comics and a refreshment at St. Louis' Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Shop, Apotheosis Comics and Lounge! Then join Mike and his Campus Comic Cast collaborators, Scott and Shaad, as they review OGN Cosmic Detective, by Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt, and David Rubin. Apotheosis Comics and Lounge is at 3206 South Grand Boulevard, St. Louis, MO, (314) 802-7090, online at https://shopapotheosis.com/, and on social media at https://www.facebook.com/ApotheosisComicsSTL/, Instagram.com/apotheosiscomics/, @ASTLComics on X. The email address is hello@apotheosiscomicsstl.com. Thanks to Martin at Apotheosis Comics and Lounge for sharing his time with me and the great recommendation (not to mention the great stories)!

Fans want baseball's caretakes to take care of the game they love, argues The Sporting News baseball writer Ryan Fagan, a stack of baseball cards nearby and a work stoppage all around. With Major League Baseball's lockout entering its second weekend, two baseball writers meet at a local St. Louis comic book shop to open some baseball cards and talk about the precarious spot the game and the card industry find themselves in, both on the brink on significant change, and possibly not for the better. Fagan joins St. Louis Post-Dispatch baseball writer and Best Podcast in Baseball host Derrick Goold to talk about the goals of the owners and players in the stalled negotiations for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The two writers discuss changes to the draft, to the on-field rules, and to the economy of baseball that could rise from a new CBA. They also discuss baseball cards -- best designs, favorite individual cards -- and the similarity between the game on the field and what's happening with wax packs as Topps, after 70 years of making cards, is on the verge of being replaced by Fanatics. This episode was recorded on location at Apotheosis Comics on Grand Boulevard in St. Louis. The Best Podcast in Baseball, sponsored by Closets by Design, is a production of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, StlToday.com, and Derrick Goold. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
For Martin Casas, owner of Apotheosis Comics, community has been at the forefront of his entire career. After years in politics, searching for leaders who could put on the cape, he decided to go directly to the people. Apotheosis opened in 2017, and since then has served as a spot for comic fans young and old, whether they are newcomers or connoisseurs. But for Martin, it's always been about more than just a business. he adopted St. Louis as his new home, and has dedicated years to bringing the community together however possible. The combination bar and comic book shop is the epitome of that philosophy. It's not only a gathering place for people of all ages, but Apotheosis hosts reading events for kids, organizes food drives, and Martin is always looking for however else his business can lift St. Louis up when it needs a hand. When COVID hit, they had to completely change their model, but the community they'd welcomed so openly came to them. Through social media, business grew so much that they'll be opening a second location this month on Cherokee Street and Jefferson, in the location where Foam used to be. Martin joined us to talk about the growth of comics and graphic novels in pop culture, building a business on beliefs, and what it's like to put on the cape- even as a small business owner. For comic book fans, a big date is just around the corner. August 14th is Free Comic Book Day, and Apotheosis will be ready for customers of all levels of comic fandom. Then a week later, their new location will have its soft opening. Head down to Cherokee and Jefferson to check out the new space, and maybe discover something new to fall in love with.

Martin Casas has had an unusual career: he worked in politics for years, starting as a White House intern, then supporting the campaigns of Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, and most recently St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. But in recent years, he’s opened comic bookstore, Apotheosis Comics and Lounge. Apotheosis is an explicitly social-justice oriented bookstore, a community venue which seeks to use comic book stories to promote social change. James speaks with Martin about how superheroes have inspired and supported social justice movements through the decades.

As another Star Wars movie speeds toward the galaxy this month, fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival — while non-fans may be yawning over the premiere of yet one more big-budget action flick. But regardless of one’s feelings about Star Wars, Marvel or other modern myths that dominate pop culture, self-described “superfan but also a critical fan” James Croft argues that these persistent hero narratives overlap with the real world in powerful ways. “We can learn so much about ourselves and about our culture,” Croft has said, “by exploring how heroism is portrayed in movies like ‘Star Wars’ – including how notions of what heroism is, and who can be considered a hero, have developed over time.” As the outreach director for the Ethical Society of St. Louis, Croft plans to dig into this topic at a free event Thursday evening at the society. In this episode of the talk show, he joins Sarah Fenske in studio alongside Martin Casas, owner of Apotheosis Comics & Lounge, which is sponsoring the hero-focused event.
St. Louis based comedian Phillip Cornell joins the podcast to discuss how sometimes telling truth may have a lot of blurred areas, and when miscommunications come into play, can lead into a situation you never expected in the first place.
