It was one year ago today that April Imholte aka April Anderson aka The Scrimp appeared on The Steel Toe Morning Show with her noodle-man husband Aaron Imholte. We've got a yellow brick road of dummies to check in on, so let's get to it! Hit the LIKE button! ...

Another weekend and another grin for the Toe! Aaron takes heads to his basement broadcasting base to rally up another 8 goals for the week to keep his charade of a life on track just one month out from his second court date for felony harassment of a young lady by releasing her saucy photos without her permission. We watch our favorite radio pro meander through more ideas for his show while keeping grounded in the failure of today. April Anderson, once Imholte, has been tweeting suspiciously all weekend and it has the internet speculating again. Is this even April? Is Nick screwing with everyone again? What is going on? ...
Patrick has been trying to ge his StreamDeck to work for over an hour, and it's still not working. So get ready for a lot of yelling and lots of blocking. Seriously, you're blocked! April Imholte has court today, but a bunch of fans crashed it and upset the judge which could mean no live court hearings over the internet for April in the future. Nick Rekieta might sell Patrick that charcuterie fridge that's sitting in his bedroom. There's a new apple around, but Nelly has nothing to do with it. Patrick forgot how to golf and it's a big embarrassing thing. Aaron is above eating butter but not above eating dog food? How does this man reconcile his life? Aaron has a new girlfriend to lie to him about how he's winning on the internet and it could be awesome! ...
Welcome to the Love, Honor, and Asperger's Podcast, April Anderson sits down with author Mark Jordan to discuss his experiences living with both autism and ADHD, a combination known as AUDHD. From his challenging childhood marked by bullying and cultural differences to the revelation of his dual diagnosis later in life, Mark shares personal stories that highlight the complexities of neurodivergence. He explains the daily struggles of masking, navigating relationships, and the endless search for dopamine, all while using humor and insight to shed light on the ups and downs of life on the spectrum.
It's Friday, and that means the goal pretty much takes care of itself! Aaron Imholte from the Steel Toe Morning Show is still trying to misdirect you like a street magician, wanting you to focus on the crimes of his ex-wife April Anderson and vlog-lawyer Nick Rekieta. He''ll even talk some trash about his old friends Geno and Kiki if necessary. He needs you desperately to forget that his wives both agree that he is an abusive monster who's allegedly physically assaulted at least one woman. He's also back to his old Mooby math tricks, wanting credit for lowering the goal temporarily less than he promised to lower it permanently months ago. We've also got a resurgence of our old friend Crazy Joe, and this time he's taken to TikTok to cringe out a whole new group of victims! ...

The walls are closing in on Aaron Imholte from the Steel Toe Morning Show, a failing racist hatecast he runs out of his basement in Minnesota. After losing his wife April Anderson to another man and running his once-mid show in to the ground at the expense of his personal life, he now faces mounting allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife, and he is frantically trying to discredit both his friends and his ex-wives as they possibly prepare to bring legal action on the midwestern zilch who can't stop running his mouth with lies on a daily basis. Watch today as he tries to smear the woman he once loves, and attempts to silence his friends with threats of legal action that he made up out of thin air. ...
Aaron Imholte is spending the holiday weekend trying to bond with his parents after years of estrangement because of his recent ex-wife April Anderson, and maybe after a weekend of hot dogs and sparklers the neglectful dad will feel comfortable enough to put his arm around his own daughter. Aaron continues to try to distort reality by banning detractors and preventing anyone from mentioning his domestic abuse allegations. There's some other nuts to catch up with if we have the time, and who knows what kind of tangents Papa Patrick will lead the flock through this fine Friday. Aren't you excited about the potential? It's a free-for-all Friday so bring your attitude, questions an favorite topics to the table if you want to rattle the cage! ...
Aaron Imholte has been accused of domestic violence by April Anderson, formerly April Imholte, in court documents that leaked over the weekend. Aaron is in full sweep mode, trying to bury and cover the accusations with many different versions of cope, including calling his ex-wife Ashley Larue a liar, making up alternative timelines to distance himself from the incidents, and much more. Now he's using the only daughter he knows the name of, Charlotte Imholte, to cover for his abuse and shield him from the same wrath he's been heaping on to others for months. Watch as Aaron tries to thread the needle of being exposed as a womanizing abusive partner and balancing his lies, ex-wives tempers, and a mounting court case against the noodle-armed Minnesota misogynist. ...
Failed Minnesota broadcaster Aaron Imholte is back streaming this morning, trying to distract his listeners from the fact that he's an aggressive control freak that physically abused his ex-wife and continues to manipulate her psychologically from the cockpit of his scam dungeon. Watch as Aaron tries to thread the needle of calling the mother of his children a liar, the recently divorced wife an exaggerating saboteur, and so much more. Of course, now that the allegations are against Aaron and his abuse of April Anderson, he wants to move on and not talk about it anymore. Aaron would like it if we could all put this in the past and revisit it when something bad comes out about others instead. Will Mooby be able to pull another fast one on his pay pigs? Will they continue to support a womanizing psychopath with a history of laying hands on the weaker sex? ...
Patrick tries to get in to some other topics as we sit and wait for some expected bombshell from the Nick Rekieta and Aaron Imholte love triangle with Minnesota egg-trash, April Anderson. What is expected to come out next? We don't know but it's supposed to be really big and shocking news. Planet with a Palate is back and she wants to show off her boy to the channel while using her air fryer. Angie Arum has finally released her re-recorded podcast where she cuts the hair of nobody wannabe comedians around the Vegas area from her budget high-rise above the strip. Let's watch as a comic who can't "cut it" attempts to create a show where her dud personality merges with other boring failures from around the comedy flop scene. Celebrate the fat wit NLO on this magical Tuesday! ...
Another week means another week of milking the drama and trickle of news out of the Rekieta household for sympathy and righteous indignation over at the Aaron Imholte homestead. Watch another morning of Johnny K-legs sighing through the same old cope and whine from his buddy Mooby as he laments the fact that his hotwife is gone for good. A midwestern man cannot let go of his emotional reaction to losing his woman, and we shall all watch as he wrecks his own life as a result. Mathew Poster is one of Aaron's only cohosts left, and after making his quit his own Savage Thoughts podcast, has Mooby revealed his unintentional plan to keep a stable of beaten-down insecure nobodies to cosign his nonsense on a daily basis? NLO thinks so. Come speculate with us! ...
Another day and another win for the toe! Johnny Kobbles was back today and cannot make it more clear to Aaron that he doesn't have any forks left to give about his stupid ex-wife and her drama. But that will not deter Aaron from going on and on and on and rehashing all the dirt. New theories arise about the intents of April Anderson and Nick Rikieta since the arrest. Kiki aka Keanu C. Thompson is losing her mind on her show, not that anyone would notice. Let's dive in to this weird pseudo-comedian slash wannabe chuckle-chaser and ask ourselves what this woman is up to, and more importantly why. ...
Patrick has migrated the studio over to a new computer, attacked the problems head on, and is ready to come back live and see what isn't working. Aaron Imholte has gone full throttle on alighting his few friends about his past, and we are here to shed some light on the truth. Will Aaron Imholte ever be able to let April Anderson go, or is the small-town Minnesota failure of a father destined to waddle in a pity puddle for eternity? Let's laugh as he lashes out at the latest drip from the Rekieta Law lolcow lollipop. Let's see who saying what, what makes sense and what doesn't, and just what everyone's motives might be. Saddle up, simpletons! It's time to ride! ...
It's Monday and there are some fantastic things to recap from the weekend! Stuttering John, who used to be a mentally-disabled diversity hire at The Howard Stern Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, visited Las Vegas and tried to hunt down Patrick and serve him a piece of his mind. Or did he? Patrick breaks down the game film and gives his side of the confrontation. Keanu is back on Steel Toe today, badmouthing people and agreeing with nonsense to please her main man, Aaron Imholte. Let's watch two big brains break down the nick Rekieta and April Anderson situation for the nineteenth time with absolutely no evidence or truth behind it. How did Aaron Imholte celebrate Father's Day with his three children? Did the one he never wanted feel included in the fun? Let's find out! ...
The host of Steel Toe Morning Show, aka Charlotte Imholte's dad, aka the most soupy-skinned man in Minnesota, is back at it again. You won't believe what we have this pasty pudge falling for this week. Aaron can't wait to destroy his former love, April Anderson, before she even turns in an application at the local factory. The rumors keep swirling and the trolls continue to play Mooby like a fiddle. Keanu Thompson joins this morning for another full-on cope session where Aaron continues to gaslight Keanu about their own friendship. Watch one of the most awkward pairs in the world as they keep trying to "do a show." The numbers keep falling and the goals are not being hit over in Steel Toe town. Patrick wants Stuttering John to come by his house when he comes through Vegas. He will be waiting. And if John doesn't come, at least let his mom know that Patrick wants a slice of that old hair pie's goofy gash! ...
Aaron Imholte has enjoyed a week of swimming in the deep with no natural predators, bragging about his live views and continuing to run his mouth to his own detriment. There will be a day of reckoning where all of the stories and insane pseudo-bragging that Aaron continues to do about his druggie wife April Anderson and his former leather daddy Nick Rekieta cause him some life strife. But he can't see the forest for the trees, and Aaron is hell-bent on controlling the narrative and trying to make sure everything is portrayed as another win for the Toe. Patrick is back to help settle the proverbial hash of this Minnesota mush mouth. And did we mention that the kids are involved now? This can't miss! ...
We finish our watch of Aaron Imholte telling the most saucy Steel Toe sexy time stories with Nick Rekieta and his wife, along with his ex-wife and super-spun sidepiece April Imholte aka April Anderson. The Minnesota mind warp continues, as this morning the search warrant circumstances were made public, and Aaron is over the moon about being the center of attention once again. It seems the Steel Toe program and April's ambiguous role as the family's live-in caretaker are at the center of the arguments for intervention at the Rekieta household. Wont' some please think of the children? Steel Toe brings useless whiny cripple Johnny Crutches back on the show to add nothing as the Steel Toe show begins its steady decline back to the beg-cast we know it to be. ...
Aaron Imholte has found a way to make his show get half of the views it did a year ago - start trashing his wife and ex-partner April Anderson. Watch as the once-discreet radio man proceeds to spill all the dirt he can about his alleged druggie ex-wife and her proclivities for other men's skin rods in her hair holes. But those are just rumors. Watch as the most easily-fooled smooth brains fall at Aaron's feet, praising his recent honesty and renewed energy towards his program. People who cursed Aaron days ago are now becoming Toe Bros unironically, outing themselves as easily-distracted patrons of this podcasting cesspool. Why is everyone currently trying to bend reality to make Aaron a good guy? How can the display of basic parenting decisions make people forget about the core narcissist that is at the center of the human goo we call Aaron Imholte? ...
BREAKING: Nick Rekieta and April Imholte aka April Anderson have been arrested in Minnesota with narcotics and guns and children! Lives are on the line! It's an MLC for the ages! Hey Tio! MLC is good again! Kevin Brennan is in a spiral after his handler and tech boy Adam fled from the program a couple months ago. Dipping deeper and deeper into dementia daily, Kevin struggles to hit his own former numbers and is now being dominated by streamers like Tookie Soup, Tuesday's at 9pm ET on the BeDabbler network. Chad Zumock sits in a corner and bounces and yells while Mooby regales KB with tales of his once-adored wife, who has now become a footnote of a cohost and the butt of almost every joke on the current edition of Steel Toe. Watch as a man with nothing pretends to have it all, an old man with no knowledge or the situation at all fails to ask any good questions while diddling away on his phone, and a short Cleveland middle loses steam and decides halfway through the show that he's just happy to be here. Also, Melton sucks, right? ...
Nick Rekeita is being accused of having some heavy involvement in the breakup and ruining of one April Anderson, formally April Imholte of the Steel Toe Morning Show. A dumb factory worker, abducted by a weak-minded selfish mad and forced to try to do something she had no business doing - radio. Did a steady supply of better bones and nose candy have anything to do with the ultimate downfall of Aaron Imholte? Did Ashley Larue demand that a drug-fueled April couldn't be around her children? And where did the VIP packages go? We may never know! ...
The fascinating story of a Minnesota wanna-be radio man who keeps torching his life over and over again marches forward. Watch as a weak man with an even weaker constitution continues to spew details about his crumbling life, from the wife he let become consumed by narcotics and be passed around like a finger trap for the pleasure of a friend. Watch as a man struggles for relevance and identity in a world he's not sure he belongs in. What is Aaron Imholte? Is he a hard-edged radio god that pulls no punches when it comes to dealing with hate? Is he a family man that does the right thing when faced with hard moral questions? Is he a single ladies man who can't be tamed? No. He's a lost man approaching forty who has yet to learn basic life lessons and find a personality that works for him. ...
Aaron Imholte has ruined April Anderson, the simple Minnesota farm girl he plucked from a factory while cheating on his pregnant wife. And now that April's prime years have been sucked away, and her innocence and self-esteem have been pummeled by the internet and her once-loving husband. Did drugs and copious amounts of dangerous unprotected sex with swingers cause April to run for the hills? Only time will tell, as Mooby lets his resentment fester and leak out through his narcissistic holes. The beginning of the end has been sweet so far, but Mooby's pride and narcissism are just ramping up and it won't be long until he starts trashing his former blonde princess. ...
Good morning! It's Monday and that means we've got an entire new week of exciting single cope from Aaron Imholte. Watch as he carts in his favorite cripple to regale with stories that are sure to make April Anderson feel less-than, and will surely make his children cringe one day. Patrick has some announcements about Hackamania for those who can't make it out to Vegas next week. Plus Patrick finally find out what a Kevin Scampoli is, and he gets lots of warnings from listeners about what a whack-job the guy is. Patrick is not concerned with the mental illness of strongmen. Seems like a him problem. ...
Aaron Imhote has tossed April Imholte to the wolves, letting her start her life over and reclaim her once-promising future in the stark Minnesota landscape. April Anderson is out looking for work, wondering where the next chapter of her life will take her. But will the habits and hauntings of the past make things difficulte for her to forge ahead? You decide. ...
Patrick is recovering from a headache that could choke a donkey. That doesn't mean anything. Don't overthink it. Let's check out the latest version of MLC and try to figure out what this show has become. It's the last day of April and we need to make our nut. There's four squares left on the wall and daddy needs to hit the goal! Stuttering John and Kate Meaney are on a fantasy world where Patrick is about to get arrested for some imagined crime at any moment. John is wasted and has seems to have pink eye from wiping with his hands before snacking. We check out the imagined new jobs for April Imholte aka April Anderson now that she's out of the Steel Toe business. ...
A new theory has emerged in the April Anderson saga as we try to uncover what happend that led to the downfall of the marriage and on-air partnership at Steel Toe Morning Show. Aaron marches on with his show, without a plan or the confidence to admit it's not going well. If there were a prize for constantly changing your panic to confidence and vice-versa, Aaron Imholte would win hands down. And where is April Imholte aka April Anderson from Litchfield? Is she running around town trying to get hired while rumors of drug abuse and sexual impropriety swirl? Or is she locked away in a facility, sucking down Suboxone like a used-up witch? The winds of Minnesota have not been kind to this simple and very racist couple. Why is Aaron running around town singing and dancing and flirting openly with other women? Does Kiki want to be in the middle of this tumultuous relationship? ...
The dream comes crashing down just as fast as it began. In an unceremonious and barely-watched Members Only stream on Sunday night, Aaron admits that April will not be returning to the Steel Toe Morning Show, and she may be interested in rejoining the job force, if she can keep her alleged meth habit in check long enough to fill out an application and sniff her way through an interview. What will April do now that her legendary broadcast career has come to an end? Why is Moody rolling with it like this is the plan all along? Is Aaron Imholte actually undergoing some sort of self-reflection that will result in him being less of a narcissist? Will that change be enough to hold on to his failing marriage and April Anderson's ruined radio career. ...
It seems like the STEEL TOE MORNING SHOW gravy train of LOLs will not cease! Aaron Imholte kicks off his day with another "two scoops" of cope. It must be getting tough to roll out of bed with bruised ribs and a bruised ego, and let's not even talk about the sore o-ring. Let's watch as Mooby already tries to force April Imholte aka April Anderson aka Mama's Little Woods Angel back on to the show to open a package. Wielding a sippy cup around for no reason, and clinging to it like a blanket, let's watch as Aaron Imholte tries to decide whether today is a good day or a bad day for the ol' Steel Toe. ...
It's Wednesday and Patrick isn't supposed to be here, but today's Steel Toe Morning Show is simply too good to ignore. Aaron seems to be coming to terms with something the keen-eyed fans have speculated for awhile - April may never come back to the show. He seems to be laying the groundwork for a big pivot in the show, dreaming about big changes, studio redesigns and new cohosts to bring in a fresh energy. In Mooby's mind, it's only a matter of time before April Imholte aka April Anderson moves back to mama's permanently and leaves Aaron holding his limp broadcast stick all alone in the basement. ...
It's Monday, and the Dabbleverse at least seems to be calming down over the last weekend. evin is very bugged by Ray's rejection of his demands and cannot seem to get over being hurt by one of his best baby boys. Steel Toe Morning Show is in a tailspin after what seems like a weekend of separation of Aaron and April Imholte. Will she save what's left of her salvageable years and get out of this toxic relationship and lifestyle, or bury her head in the sand and tap out, refusing to fight back against a man who is clearly using her up as fast as he can? Only time will tell! This morning we wonder what life must be like on April Anderson's farm with her mama and papa scrimp. Does she want to run back to her simple life in the woods? ...
It's been an odd week, but it's hard to focus on much more than the goings-on of Steel Toe and the disaster that is April Imholte aka April Anderson coming to the realization that she is trapped in a life that isn't what it seemed just a few years ago. Rapidly approaching 30, stuck taking care of children that are not hers, performing tasks for a job she doesn't comprehend, and not being allowed to seek a more fulfilling purpose outside the home that could bring stability to their financial life. The wedding rings are off. The tears are flowing. April is collecting a salary from her parent's home while Aaron tries to keep in all together for the loyal few who still don't see the train wreck is coming for these midwestern mopes! ...
This week has been an amazing one for the Steel Toe Morning Show. After weeks of speculation about April Imholte aka April Anderson being on some kind of hard drugs that are wreaking havoc on her mind and body, her husband has continued to hide her from the show audience while she cries, or recovers, or copes, or looks for a job, or gets off the smack, or heals her open sores, or finds other men to turn her out for quick fix. We can't be sure. Is April engaged in tons of sexual hobbies with stacks of men? Is she on some kind of hardcore narcotic? Why is she bouncing from on the show to off the show in these big emotional swings? What is Mooby covering up? And more importantly, how is he winning again today after taking down the insane cry-fest he performed Tuesday night? ...

Aug. 6, 2023 ~ Pastry chef April Anderson talks to host Ann Thomas about opening a second location of her bakery, Good Cakes and Bakes, in Downtown Detroit.
Welcome to the Love, Honor, and Aspergers Podcast. Today, host April Anderson is joined by Lisa, to discuss her neurotypical marriage and how she broke into the world of Aspergers, since it so often goes in reverse. Her first marriage was to an older man. It was neurotypical and a lot of the glue holding that together was the amazing sex. They were also great friends, and had fun together. We shopped for antiques, refinished furniture, and played tennis. But it was not an intellectually stimulating relationship and after about four and a half years they amicably divorced. Lisa also notes that he had a better relationship with her horribly narcissistic personality-disordered and abusive mother than he had with Lisa because he'd lost his mother at a very young age.Lisa met another neurotypical man, fell in love, and started a family. He saw her through near death from misdiagnosis kidney cancer and a disastrous partnership with a businessman. The building they owned burned down, all the security cameras were turned off, and the partner was the last one out of the building. Her husband was helpless to help Lisa, and that guy got away with everything and bankrupted them. Six months later, her husband got a stage-four cancer diagnosis and ended up passing away in their home. Her third relationship was vastly different from her first two. He had more degrees than a thermometer, one of them in psychology. He could fly an airplane, was in the military, ran a finance department, and was a treasurer of an organization. He was so clever, but he couldn't hold a conversation, read a room, or read a person. It is a fact that disagreeable people, male or female, make a lot more money than those of us who roll over and are people pleasers. Autistic men will spend shit tons of money on themselves, and then withhold everything. Money is an abstraction for human energy they can use to demonstrate love and withhold love. Lisa started walking on eggshells because she felt all wrong. The relationship became toxic because she became toxic to him. She had reached her breaking point, and that's when they started discussing strategies on where to go from there. She is working on herself now, and when she moves out, she believes they will remain amicable.
Welcome to the Love, Honor, and Aspergers Podcast. Today, host April Anderson is joined by Michelle Carbone to discuss life changes after an autistic marriage. Michelle met her husband when she was 21, and the majority of their marriage was good. However, they did run into trouble with meltdowns, gaslighting, and even verbal abuse. It wasn't until after she left her marriage that her family and friends started to tell her about the things they were noticing that she couldn't see for herself. She was working as a travel agent, and Covid put a huge strain on their relationship. That's when she realized she'd married someone exactly like her sister. Michelle's sister struggled with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) growing up, meaning Michelle had to walk on eggshells most of her life. She felt like that was what she was reverting to in her marriage when her husband would tell her what she thought of things instead of asking. He would never listen, and she wasn't allowed to be her authentic self. She was very fortunate that their separations and divorce was amicable, and they are still able to interact when needed. After she left her marriage and the travel agency, Michelle needed to make some changes. She worked on her boundaries, started a new career, and is in a new relationship. A big thing is self-trust and self-love, and just because you might have lost it doesn't mean you can't get it back.
June 28, 2023 ~ Co-Owner and Pastry Chef at Good Cakes and Bakes April Anderson talks to Paul W. about her local business that is selling homemade pastries and desserts at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Welcome to the Love, Honor, and Aspergers Podcast. Today, host April Anderson is joined by long time friend, Louise, who is another lucky person to have entered into an Aspergers marriage.April and Louise discuss their personal experiences with their partners, and the red flags and challenges of being in an Aspergers or narcissistic marriage. April met Louise on an internet forum many years ago after becoming so fed up and discouraged that no one in her life seemed to understand what she was going through in her marriage. She was told it was normal, that all husbands are like that, despite her knowing something was wrong. After meeting Louise, she couldn't believe there were other people out there experiencing the same things she was. One thing both women learned early on in the forums is how exhausted women were. It's stressful and taxing to have to explain every single thing to your partner, and constantly watch what they're doing. Marriage to someone with Aspergers is difficult due to dealing with a lack of communication and empathy that neurotypical partners were never trained to handle.

April Anderson shares a challenging encouraging message that all are called -there is no excuses in the kingdom of God! We are in this together and very powerful
April Anderson sought a career in the rapidly expanding craft beer brewing industry and landed at the right place at the right time with the right people. California provided a perfect environment to learn the trade and provide her expertise to rapidly move up the ladder in the craft-brewing scene, but family and personal issues brought her back home. April has come into her own as the master brewer at Rockbridge Vineyards and was there to help guide the creation of their brewery alongside their winery, where she is producing some delicious craft beers in the Shenandoah Valley.

On March 19, 2021 a volcano erupted in Iceland that captured the imagination of people from all over the world. It also changed the lives of April and Martin, independent filmmakers living in an apartment in New York City. Like many of us they were coming out of a long winter dealing with covid - 19. This eruption spawned an idea for their next film. They decided to travel to Iceland to film the eruption and gather stories from the remarkable people who live with the joys and challenges of volcanic eruptions right in their own neighborhoods! Find out how April and Martin created this powerful film. You can find out how to watch the film at fireandiceland.com. I would love to hear your reactions to the film. You can leave a comment on our website or email me at info@natureguys.org.
The weekly news as per usual and then a interview with April Anderson, who is the Director, editor, and cinematographer of the documentary “Fire & Iceland”. https://fireandiceland.com/documentary
April Anderson is the Director, editor, and cinematographer of the documentary “Fire & Iceland”, a beautiful collection of the eruption and insight from locals about the impact of the eruption and living on an island with so much volcanic activity. April and her husband are the creators of www.artasair.com, which showcases various artists and aspect of culture. I recommend checking out their site to see other documentaries and work they have done over the years. See the “Fire and Iceland” Documentary for Free on March 20th, 2022 To cap off “Eruption Week”, I'm hosting a free watch party of the “Fire & Iceland: Art, Culture & Chasing Lava” documentary on Sunday, March 20th, 2022 on my YouTube channel. This is a one-time free showing on my channel because I will delete it afterwards. If you want to watch along with me, you must be at the premiere of it. Normally, you must pay for the documentary, and you can watch it at any time by purchasing it on Vimeo or Prime Video. To be notified of the time and to get the link, sign up for my newsletter. Can explain a little bit about the Art as Air project? What inspired you to make the Fire & Iceland documentary about the Geldingadalur eruption that started on March 19th 2021? There is a guy in the documentary that went to the eruption 67 times. How many times did you go? Instead of basing the documentary around the volcano itself, there is a much wider focus on Icelandic people and the “volcanic culture”. Different perspectives, like from members of the Icelandic Search & Rescue teams, geologists, artists, even Valur – who is editor in Chief at the Reykjavik Grapevine, is in it, as well as local people. Why was it important to capture that culture here? What impact did the eruption have on you as a creator and person? Was there anything in the documentary that surprised as you looked back over footage or while you filmed the interviews? Do you have any favorite behind the scenes moments while shooting? What is your favorite Icelandic word or phrase? Share this episode If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a review or rating on whichever platform you are on. March 19th, 2022 marks the one year anniversary of the start of the Geldingadalir eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The eruption lasted six months and, according to scientists, is the longest eruption of this century in Iceland! To commemorate this momentous occasion, I am hosting “Eruption Week” on the All Things Iceland YouTube channel and here on the podcast. The Eruption Week Schedule https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gujgzJRf0UThroughout this week, I will feature interviews that I did with two creators who documented the beauty, power, and impact of the Geldingadalir volcanic eruption. The first interview to be published is with Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove. He is a professional photographer from Belgium that has resided in Iceland since 2016. He recently published a book called “New Earth: A Photographic Journey of the Geldingadalir Eruption.” Not surprisingly, the images in it are stunning. While there is not a lot of text, what he does write is captivating and takes you along on the journey he embarked on to document the volcano during the forty-four visits that he made. The second interview is with April Anderson. She is the cinematographer, editor, and director of the documentary “Fire & Iceland: Art, Culture & Chasing Lava.” This documentary is visually stunning and gives amazing insight into Icelandic culture and mindset about living on an island with such volatile nature. On this edition of Parallax Views, arising from the aftermath of the Watergate scandal the media watchdog organization Project Censored was founded in 1976 by Dr. Carl Jensen of Sonoma State University to "educate students and the public about the importance of a truly free press for democratic self-government". For over 40 years it has sought to shine a much needed light on issues like censorship, junk food news, news abuse, and critical media literacy. In addition to producing documentaries and a weekly radio program on these important matters, Project Censored publishes an annual yearbook which attempts to collate the top censored news stories and media analysis of the past year. Joining us to discuss the latest yearbook in this series, Censored 2020: Through the Looking Glass, is Andy Lee Roth, the associate director of Project Censored and coordinator of Project Censored's Validated Independent News program. The conversation begins with a discussion of Project Censored's mission. Andy Lee Roth references the work of the 20th century Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Walter Lippman in this regard and his famous quote arguing that journalism should, "Tell the truth and shame the devil." From there we delve into how Project Censored decides what stories will go into the annual Censored yearbook and fills us in on the Project's Validated Independent News program. Andy then shares with us the poem that opens up Censored 2020 and explains why it used in this edition of the annual yearbook. Then we discuss the Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass motifs that inform the book. Roth explains how these motifs seem prevalent in an age of fake news and media distortion. This brings us into a discussion of fake news and some of the possibly problematic solutions being offered to combat it. From there we discuss some of the chapters contained in Censored 2020: Through the Looking Glass starting with April Anderson and Andy's report on coverage of LGQBTQ+ issues in the age of Trump. We then talk about the annual "Media Democracy in Action" chapter which includes contributions from transparency advocate Russ Kick, Kathyrn Foxhall of the Society of Professional Journalists, and others. Andy and I then discuss a few of the stories included in the top 25 censored stories section of Censored 2020. In particular, Andy tells us about the upsetting story of flawed investigations into sexual assault at Children's Migrant Center and the more positive story of new programs that are making school food systems more equitable. We begin wrapping up the conversation by discussing the state of journalism and the media ecosystem today, specifically in light of the recent collapse of Splinter and Deadspin under G/O Media. Andy and I chat about what the future may hold for journalism in the years ahead. And, as always, we try to end the conversation on a positive note in these precarious times.
