No other podcast has this! https://economist.com/TOE This is a podcast all about parallel universes, and whether we have any right to believe in them. David Wallace, professor of philosophy of science at the University of Pittsburgh and a leading defender of the Many Worlds Interpretation, joins Professor Emily Adlam, his former student, for a rare joint conversation. The central fault line: Adlam argues no one living inside a many-worlds universe could ever rationally confirm the theory describing it, since Everettian probability may undermine the evidence used to support quantum mechanics itself. Wallace disagrees, but takes the challenge seriously. From there they range across the nature of the wave function, relational quantum mechanics, QBism, and scientific intersubjectivity — two sharp, collegial minds disagreeing productively about what kind of universe we actually live in. Wilson is tereggestel. In this episode, the network-topologist-turned-gravity-theorist explains her "Gravity from Entropy" action, which treats matter and geometry symmetrically through a geometric quantum relative entropy (not the horizon entropy of Verlinde or Jacobson). She details why it reduces to Einstein's equations at low energy while predicting a dynamical, always-positive dark energy term (the "G field"), how it may avoid black hole singularities and reproduce the area law without invoking holography, and why she believes understanding the brain may be harder than understanding quantum gravity. This episode is a little bit different as we combine This Little Piggy and WATP. Yesterday I went on Chad Zumock's show with Bob Levy and by most accounts, it didn't go well for Chad. We start by seeing how Kevin Brennan is dealing with his guy showing up unprepared and getting embarrassed. Chad seems to think it went fine. Wild! Pat Dixon and Moody both join the show as we do a deep dive into Steel Toe's week, starting with his retarded assessment of my debate with Chad. Aaron won't let me come on his show and debate him which is somehow a win for the Toe? We also watch him miss goals by a lot and Moody breaks the news of a brand new restraining order against him from Kayla Rekieta. Yikes! Chip Chipperson breaks character to laugh with Jim Florentine about Artie Fletcher. Opie has a new friend, Be A Man, who is a total cornball. But don't worry, Opie has a crazy story about taking his dog out to poop in the middle of the night. He's fired up about it. We finish with your voicemails. What does it mean to investigate the "nature of reality"? In this episode, we break down the term across philosophy, physics, mathematics, cognitive science, and theology: exploring questions of metaphysics, fundamentality, reductionism, and grounding. We also touch on a conversation with Slavoj Žižek and why the question of why the universe follows laws at all may be the deepest question of all. Send us Fan MailGoeiedag al ons VARS-vriende. Die neuroloog se laaste woorde was: "Sy sal net 24 uur leef." Maar God is goed - en groter as enige mediese vonnis. Jesus het my aangeraak nadat daar vir my gebid is. Daardie 24 uur is nou 46 jaar later. Ek loop. Ek doen alles self. Toe swig SA Rugby.

In his first-ever podcast, on ideas he's pursued since 1972, Mannheim lays out conformal gravity: a theory built on Weyl symmetry rather than Einstein's equations, which explains galaxy rotation curves without dark matter, tames the cosmological constant, and fits the accelerating universe without fine-tuning. With longtime collaborator Carl Bender, he also resolves gravity's infamous "ghost" problem using PT symmetry instead of Hermiticity — suggesting the graviton may not even exist as a particle. Plus: null pointer exceptions as computer science's Meinongianism, why AI struggles with fictional facts, and why three competing theories—descriptivism, Meinongianism, and abstract realism—each come with a steep philosophical price tag. I hope you enjoy. No other podcast has this! https://economist.com/TOE This is a podcast all about time: depending on how you look at it, that's either unnerving or exhilarating. Professor Simon Saunders — Emeritus Fellow at Merton College, Oxford, and one of the most celebrated philosophers of physics alive — goes deep on what time actually is, why special relativity demands a block universe, and what any of this has to do with the Many Worlds Interpretation. Why doesn't space inherit the paradoxes of time? What's really missing from the block universe picture (and is it the same thing missing from quantum probability?) Saunders argues that Bell inequality violations aren't evidence against locality but evidence for Many Worlds, presents a novel derivation of the Born rule from a single physical postulate, and sketches a quantum version of Leibniz's monadology as a possible path through the mind-body problem. No other podcast has this! https://economist.com/TOE This is a breaking podcast. We're premiering a new paradigm for quantizing 4D gravity here first, without strings. Neil Turok — inaugural Higgs Chair at Edinburgh, former director of Perimeter Institute, and 2026 Fellow of the Royal Society — believes quantum gravity may not require strings, extra dimensions, or a multiverse. The key: a 1970s theory called quadratic gravity, long abandoned over two seemingly fatal problems. Turok and Bateman argue both problems dissolve — one by reinterpreting a classical instability as ordinary gravitational expansion, the other by a subtle tweak to the Born rule that allows quantum states of negative norm without ever producing negative probabilities. One quiet assumption, Turok argues, underpins decades of string theory's necessity. Drop it, and the whole case for a multiverse unravels. Neil graciously gave me a sneak peek at his and his PhD student Sam Bateman's new research. Bleeding edge! I hope you enjoy. The “Salmonberry Do-Over” Over the last three months, most of my hiking training has been comfortably aerobic, with 68% of my time spent in Zone 2. I added some steady effort in Zone 3 to help build endurance and strength on the trails. Higher-intensity work was kept to a minimum, making up just a small portion of my training. Overall, it's been a consistent and balanced approach focused on building a strong endurance base. , Avg Cadence:60Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-running-jackal--500980/support.
I sat down with Dr. Courtney Conley and what she told me stopped me cold…your walking speed can predict dementia up to seven years before the first cognitive symptom appears, which is why scientists are arguing it should be added to blood pressure and temperature as the sixth vital sign. We got into the mechanism behind it: BDNF, hippocampal neurogenesis, and why 4,000 steps a day can cut dementia risk by roughly 50% and I walked away convinced this is the most under-prescribed medicine of the 21st century. Today's funny podcast is basically what happens when sleep deprivation, trivia questions, and pesto sauce collide headfirst at 70 MPH.The gang kicks things off talking about The Boys, confusing CGI timelines, and whether anybody actually understands what's happening anymore in prestige television. Rafe is emotionally spiraling over loose plot threads, Moon checked out seasons ago, and somehow the conversation becomes less coherent from there. Which honestly feels impressive. Then it's time for another chaotic round of Match Up With The Morons — the game where confidence matters way more than intelligence. Moon and Learn square off in a trivia battle featuring fireworks origins, Roman numerals, and the single most dramatic pesto-related answer reveal in modern broadcasting history. There's also an alarming amount of discussion about the attractiveness of the green M&M. Which… yeah. That tracks for this show.Highlights include:Moon accidentally stumbling into the correct pesto answer like a drunk raccoon finding a winning lottery ticketLearn reverse-engineering Roman numerals in real time while actively losing her sanityAn unexpectedly passionate debate over the rarest M&M colorRafe emotionally describing Japanese math-rock like he's reviewing perfume commercialsKing Scott confidently remembering the year Coca-Cola launched as if he personally attended the ribbon cuttingAnd just when everyone thinks the show can't possibly derail harder, somebody on the text line claims Oklahoma borders Mexico. At which point the entire room briefly experiences collective brain failure. This episode of the funny podcast has everything:CGI confusion. Toe jams. Sexy sangria commentary. Mount Rushmore debates. Teddy Roosevelt “in the crevice.” Babushka lore. And enough incorrect geography to get the entire show banned from a middle school classroom.Honestly, this might be one of the most accidentally educational episodes we've ever done. Assuming your education was delivered by raccoons fighting behind a Waffle House dumpster. If you love a funny podcast full of sarcastic chaos, weird news energy, pop culture confusion, and friends aggressively roasting each other for nearly three hours straight, congratulations — you found your people. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Kevin Jackson Show, where we take today's headlines, flip them over, shake out the loose change, and somehow still come up richer than the people running the country.Let's start with a little aviation eulogy. Cue the soft violin, maybe a single overhead bin creaking in the distance…Spirit Airlines… is gone.Flatlined. Toe tag. Curtain call at 30,000 feet. Now Spirit wasn't exactly the Ritz-Carlton of the skies. Nobody ever said, “You know what would really elevate this anniversary trip? A middle seat on Spirit with a guy eating tuna out of a Ziploc.” No. Spirit was the airline equivalent of a gas station hot dog… you knew what you were getting into, and yet somehow, it still surprised you.It was cheap. It was chaotic. It was… honest. And yes, it had a reputation. You'd go to the gate and it looked less like boarding a plane and more like casting for a reality show titled “Who Packed Their Entire Life Into a Carry-On?” Fights at the counter? Legendary. Viral before viral was even trying that hard. But here's the question nobody in power bothered asking: Did people fly Spirit because they loved it… or because it was the only thing they could afford?See, Spirit wasn't just an airline. It was a pressure valve for the middle and working class. It was the difference between “I can visit my family” and “I'll just FaceTime them and pretend my Wi-Fi froze when it gets emotional.”And now? That valve is gone. And somehow, in the twisted funhouse mirror of modern politics, this is being celebrated. You've got Elizabeth Warren out there practically popping champagne, calling this collapse a “win for consumers.” A win. That's right. Because nothing says “victory” like 14,000 people updating their résumés while ticket prices quietly double in the background. That's like burning down a grocery store and calling it a diet plan.Let's rewind the tape a bit.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Want to live longer, sleep better, and feel sharper? Start walking. Dr. Courtney Conley is here to show you how to make every step pay compound interest.Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1322What We Discuss with Courtney Conley:Walking isn't optional cardio you bolt onto your week — it's a core biological input on par with breathing and sleeping. Courtney Conley argues we've engineered it out of daily life, with the average person logging just 4,700 steps a day, running what amounts to a slow systems failure on the body. The longevity sweet spot is 7,000 to 8,000 steps per day, not the famous 10,000 — that number was literally a marketing campaign for a Japanese pedometer during the Tokyo Olympics, with zero science behind it. Past 10,000 to 12,000 steps, the benefits plateau hard.A 10 to 15 minute walk within 30 minutes of eating is a metabolic cheat code. Muscle contraction pulls glucose out of your bloodstream alongside the pancreas — sit after a meal and you're only using half your blood-sugar regulation system, which is brutal news for anyone with insulin resistance.Your toes are a longevity marker hiding in plain sight. Toe strength declines before grip strength, correlates with glucose levels, and predicts falls as you age — and the foot loses sensitivity so dramatically that by age 80 it takes 75% more pressure to stimulate the same sensory receptors as it did at 50.Start with a five-minute "micro walk" — that's roughly 500 steps, and for sedentary folks under 2,500 daily steps, that tiny addition meaningfully decreases all-cause mortality. Pair it with a post-meal walk and a "relationship walk" with a spouse, kid, or friend, and you've stacked metabolic, mental health, and social benefits into one ridiculously simple habit. And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! When was the last time you allowed yourself to truly be curious? What if, instead of rushing to pick a side, we asked more questions to better understand our neighbor? These are just a few of the questions Joe and author Britney Winn Lee discuss on today's episode of the podcast. Britney wrote a fabulous book entitled: "Sacred Curiosity: Wondering Our Way Toward Wholeness". In it and in this episode, she shares insights and learnings about what a world might look like if we all leaned in more with curiosity instead of rushing to pass judgement. It's a fantastic discussion, enjoy! About Briney Winn Lee Britney Winn Lee is an author, nonprofit professional, and seminarian who writes to make room. Living in Louisiana with her creative husband and big-hearted son, Lee works bivocationally as the Grants Outreach Coordinator for the United Methodist Foundation while also publishing numerous books, including The Boy with Big, Big Feelings, Rally: Communal Prayers for Lovers of Jesus and Justice, and Good Night, Body: Finding Calm from Head to Toe. With a BA in religious studies and a master's degree in nonprofit administration, Lee has worked for over a decade in faith- and justice-based, creative community-building. About 'Sacred Curiosity' Curiosity slows us down, tunes us in for transformation, pushes past shame, activates awe, and rewrites with hope. What if our most accessible resource for healing and transformation is ready and waiting to be harnessed? When everything feels gray and hopeless, curiosity emerges as an unexpected path back to color and life. Sacred Curiosity explores how the simple practice of remaining open to wonder can become a powerful force for personal and communal renewal. Make sure to check out the Dtalkspodcast.com website! Getting dressed isn't just about clothes, it's emotional, it's personal, and it's one of the most powerful tools we have to step into who we want to be. So how do we actually use it?I'm joined by Erin Walsh, the stylist behind some of the most iconic women in Hollywood, Anne Hathaway, Selena Gomez, Mindy Kaling, and the mind behind Anne's unforgettable Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour.Fresh off last night's New York premiere, Erin walks us through what it actually takes to build a press tour of this scale, the Easter eggs, the Valentino Rockstud comeback, the meta moments, and why every look comes back to one question: how do you want to feel?We also get into Erin's CREATE method from her upcoming book The Art of Intention, and how the same tools she uses on red carpets can transform how any of us get dressed every single day.In this episode, we get into:What “intentional dressing” really means and how to actually do itThe 3-word rule Erin uses with every clientHow to find your style “superpower” and lean into itWhy clothes are emotional, and what to do when your closet feels like a strangerHow to get out of a style rutInside the Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour: the references, the collaborations, the chaosThe Valentino Rockstud comeback and why it actually worksHow Erin handles real-time criticism on the biggest carpets in the worldWhy fashion is moving back toward joy, from Matthieu at Chanel to Selena at the Golden GlobesThe “supernova” mindset Michael Kors gave her 20 years agoWhat's actually in a stylist's toolkit and the brands she swears byHer go-to jeans, white tee, and blazer, and where to shop each oneThe fastest way to elevate any outfit instantlyPre Order The Art of Intentional Dressing: https://a.co/d/00MdJuwSTimestamps:00:00 Intro, intentional dressing and why clothes are emotional02:00 Three words: the rule Erin uses with every client04:00 The “good bag” moment and dressing from feeling06:00 Why aesthetic quizzes fall short without emotional connection08:30 Finding your style superpower10:30 Owning femininity as a power move12:00 Getting out of a style rut13:30 What to do when you hate your outfit halfway through the day15:00 Color analysis, trends, and what's actually worth your attention16:30 Inside a first fitting with Erin Walsh18:00 Dressing through body changes with compassion20:00 “Breaking the shell”: vulnerability and style22:00 The CREATE method (Clarity, Ritual, Editing, Alignment, Truth, Expansion)25:00 Handling real-time criticism on the red carpet27:00 Why joy is the future of fashion (Matthieu at Chanel, Selena at the Globes)29:00 The “supernova” mindset from Michael Kors29:30 Inside the Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour31:30 Planning a global press tour at this scale33:30 The Easter eggs: the runway office, the blue Chanel sweater, the bangs35:00 Valentino in Japan, Balenciaga in Korea, Susan Fang in China37:00 The Valentino Rockstud comeback38:30 Toe cleavage, heels, and why flats don't work for her40:00 Final stops: New York and London40:30 The stylist's toolkit: what Erin travels with41:30 Her go-to jeans, tee, and blazer brands42:30 The fastest way to elevate an outfit43:00 OutroLet's Get DressedYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@livvperezInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/letsgetdressedpod/Newsletter: https://substack.com/@livvperezLiv Perez Instagram: www.instagram.com/livvperezTikTok: www.tiktok.com/livv.perezShopMy: https://shopmy.us/livvperez Hosted on Acast. Professor Aephraim Steinberg, winner of Physics World's Breakthrough of the Year in 2011, is that species! For basically 30 years, he's been measuring aspects of physics that others wouldn't touch: Bohmian trajectories, Heisenberg's disturbance bound (he showed it was wrong), even where the photon is inside the double slit (which most textbooks will tell you is impossible). His lab measured negative time — and it keeps reappearing across completely different experiments, stubbornly suggesting it means something. For much of history, many mathematicians—following thinkers like Aristotle—viewed infinity as a never-ending process rather than a completed object. In the late 19th century, Georg Cantor revolutionized this view by treating infinite sets as mathematical objects that could be compared and studied. His work showed that not all infinities are equal, and that there are infinitely many different sizes of infinity. While his ideas are foundational in modern mathematics, some philosophical schools, such as finitism and ultrafinitism, continue to question whether infinite objects meaningfully exist. In this talk, she breaks down how rethinking the foundations of math could change the way it's taught and understood—and why it might redefine what math even is.
