We chat with #HollerNation and Bethy Allen, co-founder of Socially Distant Fest (https://facebook.com/groups/sociallydistantfest), a collective of artists, musicians, painters, and other talented people sharing their gifts live on the Web since the pandemic. Over 170k members strong, Socially Distant Fest showcases music, art, yoga, meditation, tarot readings, even pickle art and rollerskating in a closet. We also play a great round of Feud to give away CAMO Energy Shots (https://camo.energy), decide whether to kill a rando for $10,000 by the press of a button, and what others think is sexy that we don't. And Gracie and Nathan forgot about the turkey in their oven. #AfterSpoiler, the turkey was delicious. #ToeBoners #Holler #CAMOEnergy

Is there something in your life that's been driving you crazy for a while? Some situation at work that you find yourself venting to your spouse about every night at dinner? Or maybe a recurring conflict with your partner or your kids that never seems to be adequately resolved? Do you find yourself ruminating over a problematic situation every time you have a moment alone in the car?In this episode, Dr. Bethy Campbell and I are sharing a 4-step process that can help you exit that complaint loop and actually move toward positive change. Bethy is a clinical psychologist, a marriage and family therapist. The technique that we're talking about today is taken from her book on Helping Skills, a book that would be a great resource if you are in a situation where you're frequently called upon to provide guidance and emotional support. But this absolutely an approach that can (and should) apply to your own knotty situations.Key TakeawaysComplaining has its place. When done constructively, it can help us acknowledge and process pent-up feelings, and encourage self-awareness and self-compassion. Repetitive, non-constructive complaining–in addition to wearing out our friends and loved ones patience–increases our stress and hinders problem-solving. Reorienting the language we use to talk about the problem can help us see more possibilities for resolution or change. If you don't have a trusted partner to help you reflect, journaling or recording voice memos can help you spot and reframe unhelpful language. With chapter 14 Bethy and Katie decide Reep is probably the main character. Also, we meet some heavenly birds, Isaiah 6:1-7 is deeply discussed, and we practice fourfold reading.
Bethy is moving across the country! It is very exciting, but she is so busy that we need to slow our episodes to every other week instead of once a week. We'll keep this pace up for the rest of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and then get back to you about our plans. Thanks for understanding!
Katie and Bethy dive into the pros and cons of invisibility, debate how old Reep is, and decide that great minds don't actually think alike. They also read Psalm 27:11-14 and practice four-fold reading.
In chapter 6 Eustace is transformed both inside and out and with this context in mind Katie and Bethy discuss his appalling loneliness, the valiant Reep, and Lucy's deep kindness. We also take a look at Psalm 115:1-11 and try out a reader's theater. Feel free to join the conversation by emailing us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
With chapter 5 of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Katie and Bethy compare the storm in this chapter to one found in scripture, see some growth in Eustace (but not much), practice Ignatian Spirituality, and take a look at Mark 4:35-41.
Katie and Bethy discuss Caspian's clear-eyed confidence, the plethora of biblical references this chapter holds, and the complications of morality. They also practice fourfold reading and take a look at Isaiah 61:1-3. To join in our conversation please email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
With chapter 3 of The Voyage of The Dawn Treader, Bethy and Katie discuss the horrific slave trade that is found in the Lone Islands, discuss the often quoted but seldom fully examined Jeremiah 29, and practice one of our best havrutas ever.
As we take one last look at Prince Caspian as a whole, we wonder if it is all about preserving old ways, or rebirth, and we discuss Peter's logic and Edmund's leadership. We also read Deut. 26:1-11 and Jer. 31:1-4 with the themes of story, war, dance, and trees in mind, and practice florilegia. Bethy's main takeaway is the power of memory and Katie's is the reminder that things don't have to go the expected way. Thank you so much for joining us in our exploration of Prince Caspian! We loved it and can't wait to get started with The Voyage of The Dawn Treader on August 24th! Join in our conversation by emailing us or sending a voice memo to fornarniapodcast@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you!
With the final chapter of Prince Caspian, Katie and Bethy wonder how it can be that God and the world are actually affected by prayer, discuss Reepicheep's new tail and the taste of tree chocolate vs. gravel, read Luke 14:11, and practice florilegia. Katie's microphone is on the fritz - sorry about that! We'll be getting her a new one for the coming season.
This two-part chapter sends Bethy and Katie all directions in their conversation - from heads rolling away from Peter's sword, to imposter syndrome, to women and men being honored in such different ways, to a river in chains! They also read a section of Isaiah 55 and practice a virtually bridge-free PaRDaS. We'd love to hear from you! Our email address is fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
Katie and Bethy have way too much fun with chapter 13's pedantic posturing and attempt to mimic it as a sacred practice. We also talk about Narnia's calendar, thank you notes, and Lewis' surprising theme of laughter at the expense of others while also taking a look at 1st Timothy 4:12.
With Chapter 12 of Prince Caspian Katie and Bethy discuss how Lewis writes of battles, how very different this chapter is compared to the rest of the series, and how Bethy has packing anxiety. They also dive into the fruits of the spirit from Galatians 5:19-26 and practice Ignatian Spirituality.
We return to Prince Caspian and our regular episodes this week! Katie and Bethy are thrilled to be recording together again and with chapter 11 they discuss wine, weddings, what Susan's fears could be, and the meaning behind gift giving. They also read John 2:1-11, and practice Lectio.
As we wrap up our little season of minisodes Bethy reads one more poem as well as a C.S. Lewis quote on love. Feel free to email us a fornarniapodcast@gmail.com
This week, we welcome back our most famous Hollywood guest, the incomparable Bethy Squires! In this year's report, Bethy brings us up to speed on news concerning the mysterious business of Disney, such as electrifying developments in Florida zoning laws, post-pandemic park decline, and the sexual habits of Babu Frik.
This week we have two messages - one from Chris and one from Bethy's mom! To send us your own message, feel free to email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
We say au revoir to our Francophone era with IRMA VEP. Official Assayas fanboy Thomas gets Bethy deep into Irma, and Bethy gets Ben Collins (THE NIGHT HOUSE, nu HELLRAISER) into the Situationist International. A real brainy one! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We are entering wedding season and therefore minisode season too! Bethy explains what the plan is for the next two months and then reads a poem she wrote this week. Here's the link to Katie's wedding registry if you'd like to send a gift her way as she starts her marriage with Manoj! (To be very clear, you are loved, but this is NOT an invitation to the wedding, just an invitation to support them with their registry... Thanks for understanding!) https://www.zola.com/wedding/katieandmanoj/registry
Katie and Bethy discuss trees dancing as well as some difficulty in a ballroom dance class, how awesome Lucy's time with Aslan is (He is just the BEST!), how much bravery it takes to relay an unwelcome message, and the beautiful details in chapter 10 of Lewis' Prince Caspian. We also compare this chapter with 1 Sam. 3:1-11 and practice Florilegia. Join in on the conversation by emailing us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com.
Mohanad Elshieky (IM SORRY podcast, FULL FRONTAL) joins us for part 2 of moviebarpod's inadvertent journey to France. Thomas and Bethy are divided on this one! Come for the debate, stay for the obseqious fawning over Patton Oswalt. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
With chapter 9 Bethy and Katie dive into injustice, trusting our plans verses trusting God's plans, practice PaRDaS, discuss dieting, and read Proverbs 3:5-6.
Bethy and Katie memorize an epic Edmund moment, discuss what kind of ruddy good looks the Bible may be referring to, and Bethy works on choosing her theme for the coming year of life. They also check out 1 Samuel 16. Shoot us an email at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com - we'd love to hear from you!
With Prince Caspian Chapter 7 we explore the idea of Caspian being ready for his leadership role or not, question if Bethy is a fawn, discuss Lewis' opinion of war, and help Katie with some financial questions. We also read Exodus 17:15-16 and practice Ignatian Spirituality. Thank you Danny Parker for our lovely logo and Salt of the Sound for our exquisite music!
We're back to our normal recordings and we are thrilled!! Along with Deut. 6:20-25, and PaRDaS, Katie and Bethy take a look at Prince Caspian chapter 4, talk about the importance of remembering history and asking questions while expecting answers. We also discuss how different the flavor of this book is and what a shining example we see in Caspian.
Once again we're coming at you with a recording from the olden days! With Prince Caspian chapter 2, Katie and Bethy discuss how we come to believe things, the importance of allowing for a change of opinion, and Edmund's love of food. We also practice Ignatian Spirituality and take a look at John 20:24-31.
Welcome to season 4 of For Narnia and For Aslan! With this first chapter of Prince Caspian, we decided to take a trip down memory lane by playing our very first recording attempt ever! Katie and Bethy try out podcasting for the first time with a discussion about discomfort, adventure, growth, and new experiences. As this is our first ever recording, Bethy's sound is not quite right, we cut out a couple times, and there are editing mistakes... to say the least. There's not even music! However, we thought you might like to hear our first attempt anyway. It feels a little like stepping back in time. Enjoy!
Katie and Bethy here to let you know what's ahead in Season 4 of For Narnia and For Aslan! The biggest one is about the first three episodes of the season. See you when we kick off on January 19th and until then, feel free to email us at fornarniapodcast@gmail.com!
There's nothing like listening to bloopers to make you realize how thankful you are for editing! During these Bethy can't remember lyrics, Katie's phone cuts out, and there are many struggles with mispronunciations. It's been a fun season and we're looking forward to the next!
Katie and Bethy finally reach the line “the hour has struck” thanks to Rabadash and his terrible decisions. Together we discuss Katie's youth group, how Jesus interacted with demons, and how awesome it is that Lucy's counsel is followed. We also practice reading for fourfold meaning and read Luke 8:27-33.
Bethy really fell down the rabbit hole! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In another episode, Dad said that everything was going well for his ministry with the Steele Avenue Church of Christ in the mid-1980s. But at home, Dad and Mom were going through one of the hardest and scariest times of their lives. In 1984, tests revealed that their one-year old daughter, Bethy, had Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that was the #1 killer of children and young adults at that time. On top of the overwhelming confusion, fear, and frustration, Dad and Mom had to face the financial hardship that came from multiplying medical bills and trying to buy their first home. When families in the church face this kind of hardship, they turn to their ministers. But where do ministers turn when they're the ones going through hell? Do you want to ask Dad a specific question in a future episode? Email it to bt@btirwin.com. You can follow Dad's cancer treatments at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/travisirwin2
Time for a hazy summer mirage of a movie, PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK. What happened to the 3 girls and their queercoded math teacher on St. Valentine's Day 1900? Iunno. This was Peter Weir's second movie, government-funded, and cool as all get out. We talk bridal veils, influence of Sofia Coppola, and Bethy's meh Australian accent. Crikey! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Clay Keller of Screen Drafts joins us to talk Disney corporate structure, Patrick Warburton, and how on earth Bethy had this blind spot in her Disney catalogue. And also Patrick Warburton. Did we mention Patrick Warburton? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This episode is so money, and it doesn't even know it. Or it does know it, but it's pretending to not know it because it thinks that will help it get chicks? Anyway, this was actually the first WMATB ever recorded. Bethy explores her masculinity, Thomas plays a game, and we all learn a lot about what the names of the characters are in the movie SWINGERS. This one is special, y'all. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Welcome to Watching Movies at the Bar, a podcast about bar movies and movie bars. In this lil teaser, Thomas and Bethy create the podcast's format before your eyes! We hadn't discussed what the podcast would be about until this moment, so you are really getting in on the ground floor. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Welcome to my next episode of searching for truth, this week I talk with Bethy. Her story immediately caught my attention when she explained she met her Birth Mother. I could relate to her longing to see her Birth Mother from an early age. I like Bethy only had one thing in mind growing up and that was to meet out Birth Mothers. It was a desperation. Bethy like myself knew she was going to find out the truth one day. And we did! I found out my Birth Mum was dead, this news I believe was my number 1 trauma. Bethy met her birth mum 18 months before she died. Through meeting her Bethy met the father of her first three children and her abuser for 9 years. Oh so many twists and turn in this interview, it really is perfect for searching for truth. In my eyes everything is connected and this interview portrays this perfectly especially when you hear the positive outlook on life that Bethy now has :-) FOLLOW ME ON FACEBOOK ➜ http://facebook.com/visibleconnections If you would like to hear a snippet of this interview why not listen to the trailer here: https://anchor.fm/donna-joseph9/episodes/Searching-For-Truth--How-Finding-Birth-Family-Led-to-Abusive-Partner-And-Domestic-Abuse--Was-it-Worth-it---TRAILER-engk5h Also connect with me by email: searchingfortruthdj@gmail.com
As an adoptee I know how sensitive this area is.... You have no clue what's on the other side.. You just know you need to go there. Until now I'd not spoken to anyone that had the same longing as I did for their Birth Mother.. Bethy and I have our unique stories with one thing in common, we were both adopted and longed for our Birth Mothers. This interview / discussion touches on the emotions around being adopted and how it felt growing up desperate to know our Birth Mothers identity. My discussion with Bethy goes deep... Truth is, you never know what you're gonna find. .. In this interview you hear the story of how Bethy through finding her birth family found her abusive partner to then ultimately finding herself.
