In this episode, Justin is joined by Jim Johnson to discuss 2 Chronicles 1–20, Philippians 3–4, and Colossians 1–4. Together they explore how Chronicles bridges the Old Testament story to the coming of Jesus, what Philippians teaches about joy, contentment, humility, and living worthy of the gospel, and how Colossians gives us one of the clearest pictures of the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ. They also discuss what it means to belong to Christ's kingdom, how believers should think about death and resurrection, and how the church can pray for its leaders and one another.

You don't need to fear blurry lights in the sky. You don't need to fear disclosure or cover-up or deep-state secrets or alien invasions. The worst they can do is kill the body, and even that has been swallowed up in victory. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in you. The same love that reconciles the kosmos is the love that holds you this very moment.
We are living in a time that wants to drain the color out of everything: from politics to consumption culture to the slow accumulation of fear. Charlie and Brian walk the Four Paths through a single question: what actually holds the center when things fall apart? The answer is not optimism. It is beauty understood as the cosmological balance point of the Tree of Life, the dwelling place of the Cosmic Christ, and the practice that elevates the divine sparks still burning inside the broken shells of the world. This episode is pastoral, practical, and quietly insurgent. It moves from Via Positiva awe through the klippot and nitzotzot of Via Negativa, into the gemilut chesed and brachot of Via Creativa, and arrives at Via Transformativa in time to talk about dancing at protests and why a movement that cannot dance has already lost its way. This Substack is reader-supported. In Revelation 1:9–20 the apostle John sees a glorious vision of Christ in heaven. Listen as Pastor Luke Herche preaches on this passage, helping us to better understand the glory of Jesus, the fear of Jesus, the grace of Jesus, and our service to Jesus. Part of a series on the book of Revelation. From Sunday Worship, March 15, 2026. ------------------------------- Want to go deeper? Take some time to reflect on the sermon with the following questions: When you imagine the scene John describes, which specific image feels the most overwhelming or weighty to you? We often prefer a “plastic Jesus” who is manageable and safe. How does John's encounter with the cosmic Christ challenge the version of Jesus we typically carry around in our day-to-day lives? The One who holds the stars in his hand is the same One who reaches out to touch a terrified man. What does this reveal to you about how Jesus uses his immense power toward those who are broken or afraid? In what ways does beholding the majestic, cosmic glory of Christ actually provide more stability for your soul than a “safer,” smaller version of him? What would change in your Monday morning routine—your stress, your interactions, or your inner monologue—if you truly believed the cosmic King was standing right there with his right hand on your shoulder? ------------------------------- allsoulspca.org All Souls (Urbana, IL) is a part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a Christian, Reformed denomination with historic and theological roots in the Protestant Reformation.

John's Gospel starts at a different scale than Matthew's and Luke's (Mark's just sort of starts with no nativity or infancy narrative). John starts at the beginning of creation with "He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being" (1:2-3). While Matthew and Luke "zoom in" on Jesus and the Holy Family, John "zooms out." What can we make of this difference? What does it mean to have, as some scholars have called it, a cosmic Christ? And, maybe most centrally to the Jesus movement, what does it mean that this Cosmic Christ lived among us in our very flesh and blood? Christmas is almost over, but the questions it raises are not. So, join Jonathan and Seth as they talk about them together. Thanks for being with us! We hope the joy of Christmas carries with you throughout the year. Although we know that Christmas brings with it lots of complicated emotions, we hope joy is the lasting one.
Thank you for joining us for our Christmas Eve service! Today's sermon is "The Cosmic Christ" by Chad Anglemyer.

What does it mean to say that God is not distant, but present in all things? In this episode of Creation's Paths, we explore animism, panentheism, and the Cosmic Christ as ways of seeing the world infused with divine life rather than ruled by fear or domination. We talk about discernment, authority, power, and how the word in changes everything. This is an invitation to learn how to see, listen, and act from interconnection rather than separateness. Thanks for reading! Mother Wisdom, Cosmic Christ and Seven Generations From Now by Teresa Bowen
Join Rolf Jacobson, Caroline Lewis, and Matt Skinner for Sermon Brainwave as they explore the texts for Christ the King/Reign of Christ Sunday (November 23, 2025) - the final Sunday of the church year and Year C. In this episode, the hosts dive deep into what it means for Jesus to be called "king" and how we understand Christ's reign in a world unfamiliar with monarchies. They examine the Gospel reading from Luke 23:33-43, where Jesus is crucified alongside two criminals, asking: What kind of king is this? A crucified king who sees those we overlook and extends mercy to the marginalized. The conversation also explores Jeremiah 23:1-6 and its promise of a righteous shepherd-king who will execute justice, Luke 1:68-79 (Zechariah's Benedictus) and how it bookends the liturgical year, and Colossians 1:11-20's cosmic vision of Christ's reign. Key themes include: * Unpacking the language of "king," "lord," and "reign" for contemporary contexts * The contrast between earthly kingdoms and the kingdom of God * How Christ's reign is realized person by person through tender mercy * The significance of Jesus riding a donkey as a symbol of peace, not war * God's faithfulness in keeping promises to God's people This episode invites preachers and listeners to reimagine citizenship in Christ's kingdom and what it means to live under a reign marked by justice, righteousness, and mercy. What if everything you thought you knew about heaven, salvation, and Christ's power was just the beginning? Get ready to have your understanding expanded. Summary: In this deep dive into Doctrine & Covenants 76, "The Vision," we explore an expansive understanding of Jesus Christ and His infinite reach. Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon experienced visions that revealed Christ's ability to do "exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think," showing His wisdom, marvelous ways, and the unimaginable extent of His work of salvation. We begin by examining how we often underestimate the Savior, discovering that "beside him there is no Savior," yet His mercy and grace extend to bring everyone home except the sons of perdition. The video then unpacks the concept of "The Cosmic Christ," where Joseph and Sidney beheld the glory of the Son, witnessing that by Him, "the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God." Next, we confront the sobering reality of "Perdition and His Sons," understanding the profound loss associated with Lucifer and the specific conditions that lead to becoming a son of perdition. This segment surprisingly reveals God's near-universal plan of salvation, emphasizing that "all the rest shall be brought forth by the resurrection of the dead." Finally, we journey through the three degrees of glory—Celestial, Terrestrial, and Telestial—receiving a breathtaking glimpse into what "heaven" truly looks like, even surpassing all understanding for the Telestial Kingdom. We'll also touch on the profound spiritual experiences that cannot be written but must be "seen and understood by the power of the Holy Spirit." Prepare to enlarge your vision of God's love, justice, and the boundless power of Christ to redeem. 0:00 Introduction and Overview 6:10 Never Underestimate Christ 16:50 The Cosmic Christ 36:28 Perdition and His Sons 52:19 Celestial Glory 1:05:23 Terrestrial Glory 1:13:13 Telestial Glory 1:29:34 What We Can and Cannot Write 1:42:34 One-Liners

In this episode, we honor the journey of Kevin Sweeney, who has a fascinating and unconventional spiritual journey. Once a pastor and now a hospice chaplain and author, Kevin shared his profound experiences, including a life-changing moment while taking mushrooms at the age of 18 that led him to what he believes was a direct encounter with God. We delved into his background, his transition from indifference towards religion to becoming deeply rooted in spirituality, and how his unique experiences informed his approach to faith and pastoring. Kevin also discussed his new book, "The Cosmic Christ and the Concrete Jesus," which synthesizes his mystical experiences and the influence of the black prophetic tradition, illustrating why he still identifies as a Christian despite his unorthodox path. Our conversation was enriching and insightful, revealing the depths of spiritual awakening and the power of love and compassion in our journeys.Get Kevin's Book HERE! For Kevin Sweeney (author, speaker, spiritual director), Christian faith is all about experiencing God, not in having abstract beliefs about God. And the experiences that have kept him a Christian, even after his first dogmatic teachings about the Bible fell by the wayside, have been at the intersection of the great, transcendent, mystical Cosmic Christ, and the real, authentic, liberating, earthly Concrete Jesus. Kevin talks with us about fading back from a front-and-center role as a pastor to being a servant and part of the whole body of Christ, as a writer and hospice chaplain helping people transition into their next phase. And he also talks with us about how tangible, boots-on-the ground liberation theology—particularly Black theology taught by James Cone, Kelly Brown Douglas, and others—has kept him grounded in the understanding that love is real, love is now, and love is active in this world. Jesus isn't here just to save our individual souls, he tells us. Without liberation, there is no Jesus. Listen for this great perspective on how the cosmic vision and real world works of faith can be reconciled into a single cohesive Christian faith. Kevin is the author of the new book, “Cosmic Christ and Cosmic Jesus,” which is available for pre-order and will be released in May 2025. He is also the author of the previous books “The Making of a Mystic: My Journey With Mushrooms, My Life as a Pastor, and Why It's Okay for Everyone to Relax” and “The Joy of Letting Go: How One Thing Has the Power to Change Everything.” He is also the host of “The Church Needs Therapy” podcast, and co-founder of Imagine Church in Honolulu. After a four-month series on Jesus' harsh sayings what are my final takeaways? I work through why Jesus was a first-century shock-jock, how in light of Jesus love can be tough, Jesus' axiology, why He was a man's man, how amazing it was that Jesus was not snared by the anxiety of those around him, and why—when it comes to my faith—I am "Curious Eddie." I also unpack what the progressive Gospel says today about Christianity and how the notion of a "Cosmic Christ" is more of a nod to religious pluralism than it is harmonious with the Gospels. In the show's cultural reflection I both explain why I resist Christian-ese bumper stickers and describe the utterly historical, massive, cultural shift that is underway since the presidential election. What does that cultural shift say about the Church, say to the Church, and what opportunity is now facing the Church? Come laugh and think with me.

With just 29 days until Election Day, I'm keeping my mind off of polls, horse races and general catastrophizing by pivoting this podcast to the climate crisis. The centerpiece is the 26 letters of "Climate Change A to Z" written by Elizabeth Kolbert and illustrated by Wesley Allsbrook - "H Is for Hope: Climate Change from A to Z" https://a.co/d/bREBnLb . I give a snapshot of the letter - and interpret it through the emerging experience of the Cosmic Christ. Let's vote early and encourage others to vote. And let's be in faith - not fear - as these next 29 days unfold. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/presence/support
