This episode of Attack the Backlog is all about Bowser's Fury, the additional content included with the Switch port of Super Mario 3D World, where Mario gets his very own harem of pussy(cats) while also getting his Powers Rangers in super-sized battles against kaiju Bowser in extra large Cat Mario form, all of it set in a moderately-sized open world as opposed to being level-based like your more traditional Mario game. I should have realized this sooner, but with Bowser's Fury, I finally realized something I should have realized long ago: I'm just not that into open-world Mario games.

It's a spicy one! Someone named Jon was on this episode. Claimed he'd been here before. We were too tired to argue so we just let him host. James is getting into spooky season with some Dead Space. This “Jon” character played Rollerdrome and Sifu. Angie's found her new spirit animal, Cat Mario, in Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. We also dive into some news. Some might say CD Projekt Red's a bit overambitious with their new project schedule. And you can start earning rewards with PlayStation's new Stars program. Everyone thinks it's lame. Jon thinks it's cool because he's a fanboy. We're not sure we'll have him back. This week we're reviewing one of the biggest Switch games of 2021: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury! Does this collection check all the right boxes or is it too ambitious for it's own good? We're also discussing our favorite examples of the trope, Loyal Animal Companion. Cat Mario - 2 oz. Vodka - 1 oz Peach Schnapps - 1/2 oz. Grenadine - Top off with Orange Juice- Garnish with a cherry The Weekly Trope (1:04:49) Loyal Animal Companion - The loyal, lovable, non-human friend. The cat hasn't got our tongue as we share impressions of Bowser's Fury and the Ring Fit Adventure end game, plus dive into Nintendo's performance in sales and... fast food?
Before we dive into more spoiler-y talk of Bowser's Fury, first we have to eat our vegetables. Neal got a bunch of Crash Bandicoot-flavored cookies in the mail while John started a TikTok for Nintendo World Report. After that talk goes on for way longer than expected, the pair cover the upcoming slates of Nintendo Switch Online games (one of them is directed by the co-founder of Skip, Ltd.!) as well as two new releases: the indie game Blue Fire (3D Hollow Knight sorta?) and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (out on PS4 but coming to Switch later this year). Then, they talk all about Cat Mario and how Bowser's Fury is a low-key masterpiece. 00:01:57 - NWR gets a TikTok! 00:05:33 - Crash Bandicoot Cookies and Activision Talk 00:12:45 - New Nintendo Switch Online Games 00:26:24 - Blue Fire 00:33:11 - Ys IX: Monstrrum Nox 00:40:43 - Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Spoiler Talk 01:01:18 - Closing Thoughts Connectivity has joined Twitter, so be sure to follow @ConnectivityNWR to be up to date on any announcements. Joe's been playing Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Switch and reminds us all why it's a game a lot of us missed on Wii U but shouldn't this time around. Jesse has been playing new horror game The Medium and lets us know if it lives up to expectations. Plus, Cardy has played Nuts, a squirrel surveillance game that is rather pleasant. Also, we discuss the weirdest things we've ever buttered. Why not tell us yours? Remember, if you want to get in touch with the podcast, please do: ign_ukfeedback@ign.com.

What? Another special edition of Nerds Without Pants? You lucky ducks! This time, Angelo joins Julian for a look at what Nintendo had to show off, as well as a bunch of other stuff that you'll want to hear. Angelo gives his thoughts on what was shown yesterday, and voices his caution and concerns for both the Xbox One and the PS4. He brings up some great points, but Julian is still gung ho on his PS4 preorder, but admits that Nintendo showed off some amazing games at their Nintendo Direct. Both of the guys think Mega Man is cute, secretly want to be Cat Mario, and fantasize about owning a Kuribo's Shoe. Then Angelo stirs the pot by bringing up Final Fantasy XV nee Versus XIII. He didn't listen to yesterday's special, which means you get to listen to Julian rant once again about his issues with the newly christened FF game and his hatred for Tetsuya Nomura's designs. To quote the tenth Doctor: "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."
