Send us a textThis week, I offer you a barefoot sermon from the battlefield of economic memory. A walk from Hamilton to Trump. From Ricardo to Argentina. From Abraham Lincoln's top hat to the red-capped defiance of tariff diplomacy. A retelling of the American experiment through its most potent and most misunderstood weapon: the tariff.I argue here that Donald Trump, however clumsy and chaotic, reignited a long-dormant Hamiltonian flame. Like Lincoln before him, who used tariffs not only to industrialize the North but to bleed the profits from slavery's Southern engine, Trump reached for tariffs not as isolation, but as revolt. The goal was disruption of the quiet exploitation that still oils the gears of the global economy. We begin with Hamilton. In 1791, he laid the blueprint for industrial sovereignty. While Britain imagined America as a spice colony, exporting raw goods and importing refinement, Hamilton saw something else. He saw factories. Foundries. Credit. Fire. His tariffs were not walls, but scaffolds. They wrapped the infant industries of the North in protection until they could stand on their own. Then came Ricardo, bond guru, master of the ledger. He preached comparative advantage, but assumed capital stayed still. That the factory would never chase the lowest wage. That trade was neutral. That power did not intervene. Hamilton saw the flaw long before it became scripture. Ricardo's theory, elegant on paper, became a passport for colonial subjugation. Had America followed it, she might have become another Argentina. Rich in soil. Poor in ambition. Governed by landlords. Exporting the future in exchange for someone else's present.Build the factory. Raze the plantation. Lincoln saw it in cotton. Trump saw it in Asian factories. In both cases, the profit was buried in the poison, and each man, in his own era and fashion, had the rare courage to call it by its name.To strike slavery and build a more enduring republic, Lincoln and maybe Trump, did not reach first for cannonballs or proclamations but rather they reached for the balance sheet. They understood that if you make the ledgers bleed, the system follows. That is their courage.Hugh⬇️ Subscribe on Patreon or Substack for full episodes ⬇️https://www.patreon.com/HughHendryhttps://hughhendry.substack.comhttps://www.instagram.com/hughhendryofficialhttps://blancbleustbarts.comhttps://www.instagram.com/blancbleuofficial⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Leave a five star review and comment on Apple Podcasts!
John 00 Fleming presents JOOF Radio 065 (Tracklist below) I nearly launched straight into a full-power Turbo mix, but all my career I've been a DJ that likes to unfold a story and build to the crescendo of Turbo, and only having an hour mix feels a bit rushed trying to get there. I feel my deeper hypnotic mixes are more suited to radio (that always have a sting in the tail), but fear not I'll be bringing back long extended JOOF Edition marathon mixes and putting them on my/JOOF YouTube channel + lots of other guest mixes, more information to come soon! On guest mix duties, Ormus takes off with an amazing heads-down mix. Guest mix: Ormus (Spain) Tracklist: ---- John 00 Fleming ---- Placebo eFx Feat. There few things that send (marketing) analysts shivers down their spine line the dreaded GDPR. The European archenemy of data people. But why is something like the GDPR even necessary and how can we handle it without burning our fingers? In this weeks episode your host Christian Krug interviews Siobhan Solberg, Data Protection Consultant at Raze on this hot topic. Many people especially in Europe know this: You want to get something signed or book a service or an appointment and you get immediately handed a formular for giving consent to data storage. Let's face it – it's terribly annoying. Since the introduction of the GDPR those consent sheets are everywhere.Interestingly, this wouldn't always be required and was not intended by the regulation at all. This bill was made to protect people's data from misuse and not to annoy them with more paperwork. Unfortunately, some people didn't bother to read it properly or prefer to play it save, as written consent is the fallback solution. But why is that data protection even necessary? Because businesses developed a habit of doing shady things with our data. And some data is so crucial that it's protection is required to keep people save from dire consequences. The not so dramatics things include personalized advertisements. Where this might be ok for adults, young people can be influences more easily and thus require more protection. Also when crossing cultural borders, some data suddenly goes from harmless to life-threatening, if shared with the wrong people. If you live in a very liberal area orientation or ethnicity might not play a role. In certain regions all of a sudden people can face severe consequences if those information is shared all to openly. And to protect people and their data from potential misuse the GDPR was designed. In itself it is nothing bad, and scaring people with huge fines surely didn't help. So if we manage to get better grasp on the potential power of data and see why it should be protected we might see more manageable implementations of that bill.▬▬▬▬▬▬ Profiles: ▬▬▬▬Zum LinkedIn-Profil von Siobhan: https://www.linkedin.com/in/siobhans/Christian at LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-krug/Unf*ck Your Data at Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/unfck-your-data▬▬▬▬▬▬ Book recommendation: ▬▬▬▬Siobhan book recommendation: Pippi Longstocking – Astrid LindgrenThe “UYD” bookshelf at Melena's store: https://gunzenhausen.buchhandlung.de/unfuckyourdata▬▬▬▬▬▬ Where to find UN#CK YOUR DATA: ▬▬▬▬Podcast at Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6Ow7ySMbgnir27etMYkpxT?si=dc0fd2b3c6454bfaPodcast at iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/de/podcast/unf-ck-your-data/id1673832019Podcast at Deezer: https://deezer.page.link/FnT5kRSjf2k54iib6UYD at Youtube:

To close out the month, we have another fantastic mix from Mark Mimmo. This mix is a pulse-pounding journey through breakbeat and modern electronica. Kicking off the groove with deep pads and vocoded vox sample of “Is It Real” and Mimmo's remix of London Grammar's “Hey Now,” the mix sets a tone. Classics sounds like Raze's “Break for Love” in Mimmo's remix sit perfectly with cutting-edge tracks like GUAU's “Eternity” and Colombo's “Feel Right.” The mix explores many shades of the genre, from the bass-heavy rhythms of Desma's “Around Me” to the experimental flair of Fred Again, Lil Yachty & Overmono's “Stay In It.” Underground gems like Kolter's “That Was Fresh” meet mainstream ender in A$AP Rocky's “Fuckin Problems” as an eclectic and energetic blend. Mimmo's mix is both a homage to breakbeat's roots and a look to its future, offering a masterclass in dynamic, emotive curation. ENJOY! Roughly 10 years ago, when I was in my early days of covering film festivals, I was thrilled to get the opportunity to sit down with the team responsible for a movie that spotlighted a group of women who were, and still are, utter forces in film and television. That team? The filmmakers behind Raze, led by prolific stunt performer and coordinator, Zoë Bell.Well aware of her work in Kill Bill, Death Proof, Inglorious Basterds, Whip It, and then some, I was quite eager to see what Bell could do both in front of and behind the lens in new ways. Not only did she headline Raze, but she also produced it and heavily contributed to the development of the story and the action right from the start. It was a significant leap that suggested she'd continue to soar in film and television in a multitude of ways.Sure enough, at the end of September 2024, there we were celebrating Raze 10 years after release, discussing her accomplishments working on blockbusters like Thor: Ragnarok and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and teasing her upcoming feature directorial debut. Bell is a proven unstoppable powerhouse in this business, and it was a treat and honor to get to discuss how she found her craft and voice in such a high-pressure line of work, and how she continues to expand that skill set every step of the way, making a bigger and bigger mark on this industry with her art. The state is moving ahead with plans to tear down and reconstruct Stateville Correctional Center in Will County. The facility was built in 1925, but conditions were described as “decrepit, unsafe and inhumane” by the prison watchdog group John Howard Association. During a Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability meeting Tuesday night in Joliet, Department of Corrections Acting Director Latoya Hughes said Stateville is too far gone to be repaired.
The three hosts represent Pacific, Eastern, and whatever timezone Japan is in as Cass patches in from vacation. Shanghai has birthed some very cool storylines, but the patch preview from Riot steals the show. Neon stonks are sliding precipitously upwards, Iso is also looking like less of a total throw to pick, Reyna gets a strange sidegrade, and Raze and Clove get knocked down a peg. Trouble is brewing at Rito HQ as they attempt to placate the masses who are fuming at the current map pool, lack of a replay system (coming soon since 2020), and the current agent meta. Desperate to curry favor with the playerbase, Riot mixes up the map pool, shows a WIP replay system, and bribes Chase, Cass, and guest Blate45 to shill for their anti-fun Raze satchel nerf (details TBD). After Hunter 1v3 clutches against the rest of the gang, we move on to giving some of the least informed Shanghai takes available, and sprinkle in a healthy dose of bemoaning Riot's pro play structure.Discord: https://discord.gg/n5eP3XxzuGSubreddit: www.reddit.com/r/drunkvalorantpodcast

1 By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept When we remembered Zion. 2 We hung our harps Upon the willows in the midst of it. 3 For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song, And those who plundered us requested mirth, Saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion!" 4 How shall we sing the LORD'S song In a foreign land? 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget its skill! 6 If I do not remember you, Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth-- If I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy. 7 Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said, "Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!" 8 O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed, Happy the one who repays you as you have served us! 9 Happy the one who takes and dashes Your little ones against the rock! I am so thankful and grateful for your prayers for our current trip to Amman Jordan. We had a safe and long flight here with our wonderful team. We arrived last night around 5:30 pm and went directly to the GPPD Relief Center about 35 minutes away where we will be staying for the entire time here. We met with the Pastor of the Grace Church and went to our rooms for some rest. This morning we had breakfast with the team in Jon's apartment and Kristi Robers gave us a wonderful and very helpful devotion from Joshua 5 called “Lectio Divina”. After that we had the opportunity to go across the street to the Relief Center and minister to over 25 Syrian women refugees in the first group. Kristi share her heart in a very moving way as she shared God's love and hope with them. Jonathan also shared a wonderful message with them. Afterwards, they all received a large bag of food items and another bag of cleaning supplies. We immediately received another group of over 25 Syrian women refugees. Anita Geiger share her testimony with them and assure this group also of God's love for them during this difficult time of their lives. I was also about to share a few minutes with them about living a life that has meaning and value despite the conditions we might be going through! After I finished, they asked Jonathan how old I was. He asked them how old they thought I was and many of them replied that I was probably around 95 years old! Wow!!!! We all had a good laugh about that! We really felt like we connected to them and heard that they made many positive comments to our translator as they were leaving. They also receive the same relief items as the first group. We met with the pastor of Grace Church and his wife and children for lunch together. They shared their journey of faith that brought them to Amman and how the Lord always marvelously has provided for them. It was very moving and inspiring! I wish everyone could have heard it that is reading this blog. Today, we also want to begin our chats on Psalm 137. Psalm 137 was probably written by a Levite after he had returned home from Babylon with the remnant in 536 B. C. Twenty years later, Babylon would be destroyed. It appears that the psalmist was with a group of former exiles (note the "we" and "us" in vv. 1-4), recalling some of their experiences from their time of captivity in Babylon. Many of those memories opened old wounds and were very painful! But from this encounter with the past, the psalmist learned some lessons about the human memory, himself, and the Lord. You will notice that the words, "Remember" and "forget" are used a total of five times in these nine verses. This chapter will help us to learn to deal with our bitter memories God's way so we might find healing for the bitterness they might have brought into our lives. We are ministering to precious refugees here in Amman this week who have tragic memories and a very painful past for the most part. Please keep us in your prayers as we share God's love and His Son with them! God bless!
This episode dives deep with Sara McElroy, a self-proclaimed ex-hustle devotee, to uncover why we cling to toxic jobs and the impact of knowing it's time to quit. We'll discuss practical strategies for preparing for your departure, so you can confidently step away from misery and towards a future aligned with your values. The pandemic has pushed women worldwide to their breaking points, forcing them to re-evaluate their priorities and well-being. While many are embracing the "new normal," a nagging feeling persists: it's time for a change. But how do we transition from the ingrained hustle culture to a path of brave exploration? Sara McElroy Bio: Sara McElroy is a former marketing officer and the Wall Street Journal's poster girl for pandemic career burnout, and a two-time member of the Great Resignation: class of 2021 and 2022. Following a stress-induced shingles diagnosis in early 2021, Sara decided to hit the reset button on her life; she quit her hard-won CMO job and trekked to Peru's Sacred Valley to reset her frayed nervous system. When she returned, she relocated from the buzzy metropolis of Atlanta to the beach in South Florida for a new job and a fresh start. But she once again encountered deeply ingrained cultural issues in her new role, and ultimately, she walked away again. Finding herself in the company of millions of other women who also set unfulfilling jobs ablaze during the Great Resignation, she returned to her journalism roots and began to explore the stories, breaking points, and defining moments that led women to seek greater opportunity mid-pandemic. These conversations became the genesis of Raze to Rise – an organization created to amplify women's voices from the Great Resignation and inspire others to blaze new trails in their own careers. In this episode, Dan sits down with marketer, author, and two-time resigner turned bonafide career transition master Sara J. McElroy. Sara's journey looks a lot like the picture of success: academic achievement followed by a steady rise in marketing and ultimately to a CMO role. But in the midst of the Great Resignation, her battles with overwork, toxic workplaces, health crises, and sexual harassment all led to two resignations, a spiritual awakening, personal empowerment, and a mission to help women find their voices and take charge of their careers. Now, as founder and CEO of Raze to Rise, she's on a mission to “uplift the voices of women from the Great Resignation across diverse walks of life, industries, functions, and career stages” and empower women to “make bold career moves.” She and Dan cover a lot of ground as Sara challenges conventional, “rational” career choices and argues that emotions, intuition, and physiology have a massive role to play in making life-changing decisions. Here's a taste of what you'll learn about through their conversation: How and when to manage your career. Career management is a mindset and an inside job. The most important times in your career before making the leap. Career transitions can be messy and it's necessary … the Messcessary. The life experience that prompted a life change. The unlikely gift of Shingles. Getting off the grid can often be the best thing. Most professionals need more than a weekend to plot their next moves. The critical role sexual harassment played in her life choices. Seeing the connections of random events. Forward-thinking themes that came from the pandemic, especially for women. The value of self-discovery and the role it plays in balancing life. We can have a plan, but until we experience it, we don't know. Missing the senses of when it's time to move on. How to learn and leverage body signals. The danger of internal capitalism. Notable Quotes: “The moments of our careers that are most impactful are the ones that are coming in the in-between, not the big moment of turning in the resignation and walking out the door.” (4:26), Sara. “I just had the idea that if I just follow the playbook, that perfect life playbook where you climb the ladder and chase the fancier titles and fatter paychecks, and everything will work out.” – (9:01), Sara. “I went off to Peru and began reconnecting with the parts of me that weren't just lost over the last couple of years and even childhood.” – (13:01), Sara. “The lather, rinse, repeat of our current lifestyle keeps us really stuck.” – (14:40), Sara. “Valedictorians by in large don't become leaders.” – (19:44), Dan. “Sexual harassment is not a style.” – (25:22), Sara. “I felt like I could not be the only woman who was getting mired in the spin cycle of being burnout, overwhelm, toxic culture.” – (32:20), Sara. “Designing a fulfilling career is an inside job.” (34:27), Sara. “The expression listen to your gut is more than just a metaphor.” – (36:35), Dan. “Our bodies are hardwired for experience of joy and bliss.” – (42:55), Sara. “We are built to move through all of the things we're facing in life through our senses.” – (45:19), Sara. “In a professional world, you're kind of like a brain, floating around in an apparatus that allows you to execute what you need to do.” – (50:40), Sara. “We have been taught to ignore the signs that things are not working for us.” – (51:27), Sara. “Disease is the last attempt to get our attention when we're doing things that are not good for us.”- (51:27), Sara. “We have the ability to feel into what we think is good.” – (54:44), Sara. “It's also important to meditate.” (1:01:08), Sara. “When consequences are larger and bigger and weighs on you, you really need to tune in and listen.” – (1:07:00), Dan. “Sometimes your employer is unable to give you what you need to grow.” – (1:10:00), Dan. She emphasizes the significance of the in-between moments in one's career and how they can shape the direction and decisions for the future. 00:07:52 - Sarah's First Resignation and the Need for a Reset Sarah talks about her first resignation and how it came after experiencing physical and mental health issues due to overworking. She decided to take a pause and went on a wellness retreat in Peru to reconnect with herself. This reset led her to make significant changes in her career and personal life. 00:12:47 - The Great Resignation and Finding Resilience Sarah discusses the concept of the Great Resignation and how it has impacted many people's career decisions. She shares her hospitalization and estrangement from her family, leading to feelings of worthlessness and a need to prove her value. 00:18:07 - The Pressure of Being a Valedictorian, Sara and Dan discuss how being valedictorian can create pressure and expectations. They explore the idea that valedictorians often become followers rather than leaders, as they excel at working within a structured system. 00:22:51 - The Lack of a Life Roadmap, Sara and Dan reflect on how the traditional notion of a life roadmap no longer applies in today's ever-changing world. She wants to share the raw, messy, and inspiring stories of women to create a playbook for designing a fulfilling career. 00:35:17 - Designing a Fulfilling Career, Sara believes that designing a fulfilling career is an inside job. Rather than solely relying on external factors like job title and salary, she emphasizes the importance of self-discovery, intuition, and listening to our physiology to find greater fulfillment in our work. 00:39:37 - The Unforeseen Path, Sara shares how her book took an unexpected turn, allowing her to incorporate more of the ups and downs and unexpected twists of her own journey. She emphasizes the importance of paying attention to our emotions, body, and intuition to determine if something is not working for us. 00:50:59 - Ignoring Emotional and Physical Signs, Sarah points out that we have been trained to leave our emotions and bodies at the door in the professional world.
