U.S. Postmaster DeJoy loves Big Oil, but Postmaster DeJoy also gets schooled. And Ubuntu climate change heroes!
Taylor Conroy has done a little bit of everything; from being a firefighter, a bodybuilder and a successful real estate entrepreneur to using psychedelics for growth and helping more than 200,000 people around the world through his social enterprise "Change Heroes." This is a different episode than Derek usually does. You will get to hear him and Taylor get into the "5D Plain," fulfillment, using psychedelics for expansion and what is going on in the world today and why it is such a great and interesting time that we are living in. If you are curious about what is beyond our "3D world" and how you can tap into it something potentially beyond it...this is your episode!
Afternoon News host Kathi O'Shea discusses climate change with Trevor Tanaka, one of 100 young climate activists featured in "Stone Soup for a Sustainable World: Life-Changing Stories of Young Heroes"; the new book by author Marianne Larned.
There were two stories that I came across this week that I feel should accompany the last episode on how Climate Change is messing up the planet. Listening to a story on Climate Change could be demoralizing, but there are other stories that could provide hope. Those stories are about people who inspire us to do better or help us understand how to do things better. The first story I discuss is about Greta Thunberg as she arrives in New York after sailing across the Atlantic at the age of 16-17 to participate in UN talks on Climate Change and hopefully inspire people in the US to take more action against Climate Change. The second story is about a friend and colleague, Dr. Brett Fevaro, who recently took a road trip with his family in their Tesla to show that people COULD go on road trips and find charging stations. Two Stories I Referred To In This One: 1) https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/cheap-driving-electric-vehicle-1.5260631?fbclid=IwAR26oLh56gZNyrl1HIAdGCemSCXOkcJwokoWj_OoxaN58yIxKe0RKsMwSJQ 2) https://www.theguardian.com/environment/live/2019/aug/28/greta-thunberg-sails-into-new-york-waters-after-crossing-atlantic-live-news?page=with%3Ablock-5d66def88f08ea59f447ad9e Both stories provide hope for me. Jairek Robbins was born in Santa Monica, California. He is a decorated performance coach and lifestyle entrepreneur who has applied his innovative methods to living a life of adventure, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship. At the age of twenty-three, Robbins was awarded the Congressional Award Gold Medal from the United States Congress. By twenty-five, he gained international renown as the creator of a revolutionary approach to maximizing personal performance that accelerated organizational success for a wide range of businesses. Robbins's personal journey has included circumnavigating the globe on a ship, helping build schools and houses in multiple countries, cage diving with great white sharks, encountering silverback gorillas in Rwanda, and working as a volunteer in underdeveloped regions. He supports a number of charities and nonprofits, such as the Change Heroes and the Pencils of Promise Foundation. He is also the author of the book Live It!: Achieve Success by Living with Purpose. Favorite Success Quote “Life supports that which supports life” – Anonymous Key Points 1. You Must Give Before You Can Receive Today, many men focus only on getting. Getting the latest car, getting the biggest house, or getting the hottest girl friend. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a focus on giving. Jairek believes that for anyone to be truly successful, they must approach all areas of their life with a giving mindset. When you focus, first and foremost, on adding value and improving the world around you, personal success is an inevitable byproduct. When you make your business plan, ask how you can give value to the people you will be serving. When you start a new workout, ask who you can inspire to achieve optimal health. When you start a new relationship, ask how you can have a positive impact on your new friend or significant other. No matter what you are doing, always ask how you can give value to others. Life is too damn short to be selfish. 2. Focus First on Intrinsic Goals Jairek believes that one of the biggest mistake many people make when setting goals is that they focus first on extrinsic goals rather than intrinsic goals. Meaning that they focus on goals more about others than themselves. For example, many of your reading this probably at one point in time, had the goal of graduating college. For many of you, this goal was set only to please your parents and not because it was something that you truly cared about. Here are some examples of intrinsic versus extrinsic goals: Intrinsic: Going to college because you want to learn as much as you can and enjoy your field of study Learning a new instrument because you enjoy practicing and making music Getting fit because you care about your body and want to take care of yourself so that you can perform optimally Starting a business because you are passionate about something and want to share your gifts with the world. Extrinsic: Going to college because you don't want to disappoint your family. Learning a new instrument because you think girls will like it Getting fit to impress others Starting a business because you want to make a ton of money Always focus on goals that are about what you want from your life rather than what others want. Following a path because it is what friends, family or society tells you to do is a sure ticket to a death bed full of regrets. 3. Create Many “Whys” For Your Goals Once you have found and set goals that are intrisic and motivate you for the right reasons, you must create a compelling list of reasons to achieve those goals. An old personal growth saying is that “Reasons come first, results come second.” You will not achieve anything of measurable significance unless you have reasons that anchor you to your purpose during hard times. Jairek recommends taking your biggest goals and writing down five new reasons to achieve them or “whys” every day. If at the end of the year, you cannot find at least five solid, reasons that send chills up your spine just thinking about them, chances are, you are pursuing the wrong goals. 4. Focus on Fulfilling vs. Pleasurable As old and cliche as it may sound, Jairek is a huge proponent of living your life in a way that is fulfilling in the long run versus pleasurable in the moment. When Jairek was in school, he used to go to bed at 10 p.m. almost every night so that he could wake up and kick butt at school and business. Even though this wasn't fun at the time, he is now one of the leading voices in personal growth, wildly successful in his business, and fulfilled in his family life. Even though choosing growth in the moment is rarely fun, it will always, always pay off in the long run. So next time you are faced with a decision between short term pleasure and long term fulfillment, ask yourself what kind of life you want to be living 10 years from now and the answer should be clear. 5. Live It All of the personal growth information, all of the seminars, podcasts and books in the world will not change your life unless you are actively living what they teach. The reason that Jairek titled his book “Live It” is that the information he teaches is only useful if you are applying and living our what he teaches. So go out there and take action, don't let another day pass where you put off taking action on your dreams for any reason. Grab life by the horns and wrestle it to the ground. Achieve the life of your dreams and go Live It!

Taylor Conroy is the co-founder & CEO of two social enterprise startups: Change Heroes and Journey333. Before diving into social enterprise, Taylor was running a successful real estate business. After a life changing trip to Uganda in 2009, Taylor came back to Canada, sold his business and launched Change Heroes, a SaaS company serving the world's most innovative and dedicated nonprofits to engage people in giving through personal video. Change Heroes has since helped thousands of people to bring friends together from over 80 countries to fund projects including schools, libraries, girls scholarships, anti-trafficking work, and more in 14 countries for over 200,000 people. Seeing the growing desire millennials have for wanting to affect change and travel, Taylor saw a huge need and recently launched Journey333, an experiential impact travel company that exists to shift humanity by systematically shifting 1% of the North American millennial generation to become truly empathetic, altruistic, and connected by 2025, while providing adventure, purpose, and community to their community of millennial participants. Taylor is also a sought after speaker who has presented around the world to over 100,000 people. He regularly presents at the United Nations in NY, and has lectured on social entrepreneurship at Harvard, Princeton, NYU, Cornell, and Stanford. He has studied meditation with Zen monks in Japan, surfed the longest wave in the world in Peru, filmed documentaries in Cambodia, Uganda, and Ecuador, become a yoga teacher in Costa Rica, run with the bulls in Spain, travelled to 35 countries, and explored every continent on earth. Taylor joins us to share his story, what motivated him to launch socially minded startups, some of the impact his organizations have had so far, some of the challenges he’s had to overcome in the social enterprise space, how he’s worked with corporate partners like Disney and DHL, and much more!

This is an interview with Taylor Conroy, founder of Change Heroes. In it, we discuss how contribution can lead to more fulfillment, as well as everything behind building schools around the world with Change Heroes. One of my goals this year is to build a school in Ecuador. I'm working with Change Heroes to make it happen and I'm reaching out to YOU for support to raise $10,000. This will build a small school in Ecuador that will impact at least 1,000 children! Please watch the video and the campaign that I've put together. If you feel that you've benefitted from me in any way, whether it be through my blog, videos, or me taking the time to help you - and you want to repay me somehow - then I'd really appreciate any contribution that you can make. You can contribute whatever you want - it doesn't haven't to be much, even a 1-time donation of $10 can make a big difference! Thanks!
