Revealing his new book Not Less Than Everything: One Man's Quest for Spiritual Enlightenment, published by Clovercroft Published September 26, 2023), August Turak reveals his stories as a member of the original team that launched MTV: Music Television and a successful hi-tech entrepreneur, Turak had what most people consider to be "the life." But he was not happy. This is the inspirational true story of how Turak overcame crippling depression and despair through a daring quest for life's ultimate meaning and purpose -- a search for transcendence.   Although his stories are wildly entertaining and often comical, Turak wishes to address the individual and collective absence of higher meaning and purpose afflicting Western civilization. He hopes this book acts, in some small way, as an antidote to that. AUGUST TURAK is a successful corporate executive, entrepreneur, award-winning author, speaker, and consultant. He is the founder of the educational nonprofit the Self Knowledge Symposium Foundation. Turak has lived and worked alongside the Trappist monks of Mepkin Abbey as a frequent monastic guest since 1996. As a troubled young college student in 1971, Turak was seized by the idea that the mystical experience that various religious traditions call Enlightenment, Satori, Nirvana, Samadhi, the Unio Mystica, or Cosmic Consciousness not only exists but might be attainable by him.  This sparked a life-altering quest, as Turak became the first student of a rough-hewn, hillbilly Zen master; the protégé of the founder of the IBM Executive School; the client of a mystical psychologist doing government-funded research with LSD; a member of the original team that launched MTV: Music Television; a successful hi-tech entrepreneur and even a longtime, part-time Trappist monk. This same spiritual roller coaster dropped him off twenty-five years later in a tiny room of a rundown motel in Baltimore, Maryland, deeply depressed, fearing for his sanity, and with nowhere to turn. Or, so it seemed.  After a corporate career with companies like MTV, Turak founded two highly successful software businesses. He has published many popular leadership articles for Forbes and featured in the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Selling Magazine, the New York Times, and BusinessWeek. His book, Business Secrets of the Trappist Monks, uses 1000 years of Trappist business success and his own entrepreneurial experience to demonstrate that the monks are not successful businessmen despite adhering to only the highest ethical values, but because they do.  Turak's inspirational true story, Brother John: A Monk, a Pilgrim, and the Purpose of Life, combines his $100,000 Templeton Prize-winning story with original oil paintings from award-winning artist Glenn Harrington.  August Turak lives on a seventy-five-acre cattle farm outside Raleigh, NC. Reino Gevers is a seasoned pilgrim who has walked twelve different Camino pilgrimage routes in northwestern Spain. His journey began after hitting a wall in his over 20-year journalism career, prompting a complete reinvention of himself. His first book, "Walking on Edge," is a fictional narrative drawn from his personal experiences on the Camino. His latest non-fiction work, "Deep Walking – for Body, Mind, and Soul," captures crucial lessons from the Camino, distilled from interviews and conversations with hundreds of fellow pilgrims and he now reveals his new book The Turning of the Circle.  Reino now dedicates much of his time to workshops, speaking tours, corporate health counseling, and mentoring leaders and achievers. Residing on the island of Majorca, he enjoys hiking, practicing martial arts, writing, and blogging in his free time. Reino believes it is our destiny as human beings to grow and become who we are truly meant to be. Life is not meant to be an easy ride. Trigger points such as divorce, the loss of a loved one, or financial ruin can elevate you to higher consciousness or leave you stagnating in melancholy. Our true calling often lies in the wounds of the past, sculpting us into the human beings we are destined to become. Reflecting on the past, it's clear how overcoming pain and obstacles equips us to fulfill our divine purpose. As an author and mentor, Reino aims to provide the tools that have helped him navigate life's challenges. Many of his insights came from long, solitary walks on the Camino de Santiago. In retrospect, those moments were among the most precious. The role of a mentor, he believes, is to guide, hold to account, and listen. If you feel a deep desire to grow, learn, and achieve financial independence, health, and strength, Reino may be able to assist you. His mentoring program focuses on finding soul purpose, building resilience, and mind-setting. Reino holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of South Africa and has been a trainer for leaders and achievers for the past ten years. He is the author of several books, including "Deep Walking for Body, Mind, and Soul," "Walking on Edge: A Pilgrimage to Santiago," and "Yield and Overcome: How Change Can Positively Impact Our Lives." Having experienced hitting the wall and finding the reset button to change his life's trajectory, Reino left South Africa at 23 to start a new life in Europe. He did it again ten years ago, leaving a well-paid job to start his own business from scratch. The brink of job burnout led him to his first Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, which changed his life. He has since walked the Camino twelve times and incorporates an annual pilgrimage into his life.

Joseph Campbell wrote that the purpose of the heroic journey is to redeem the world. While that would be overstating my accomplishments, I believe it is true that I have helped thousands of patients through my direct involvement in their care. I have helped hundreds of people through mutual involvement in twelve-step recovery. And with this book, I can help thousands more. I believe my story will interest your listeners. I hope many will be encouraged to see how their lives can represent a heroic journey as they respond to whatever challenges they encounter."  I may have written too much, as my instructions were to write a paragraph. When Host Tom Dutta asked Lisa Wilkes about her back story before the interview, she said, "During early adolescence, I developed an eating disorder. I'd been a perfectionist my whole life. Still, that quest for so-called flawlessness has a dark side, especially for women under intense societal pressure to portray a particular image. I knew I was damaging my body, but the addictive side of my brain did not care. Maybe that was subconsciously part of my goal. I found healing through a deep connection to people and animals. It took me over a decade to get to a healthy weight, so I won't pretend this was an easy problem to fix. Therapy helped because it offered a nonjudgmental space where I could be honest instead of minimizing everything or pretending I was okay.  Friendships helped. I turned to friends and family, baring my soul even when that was scary as hell. The first time I confided in a close friend, my hands trembled, and sweat dripped. It was so embarrassing to have this psychological aversion to something as simple and necessary as food. I felt like a failure, but all I received from my buddy was love. She didn't see me as a freak. She viewed me as a brilliant human trying hard to get back on track. And that made me believe maybe, just maybe, I was not beyond hope. Lisa Wilkes is an American author, licensed social worker (LMSW), flight attendant, and animal rescuer. Lisa has spent 13 years in the aviation industry, jetting across the globe and collecting inspiration for her writings. Her debut novel, Flight Path, is a fast-paced romance with serendipitous encounters. This book follows a daydreaming stewardess as she learns to navigate a new terrain: unconditional love. In her second novel, Mid-Flight, Lisa transports readers to 2038. A flight attendant begins to unravel after her best friend is killed in a plane crash. In the throes of unspeakable grief, she uncovers a political ploy to decimate one-fifth of the population. She must risk everything to combat this sinister plan, including her breathtaking new romance. Lisa's writing is provocative and timely, focusing on societal issues and internal conflict. Flight Path's readers will appreciate Mid-Flight's emphasis on hope and redemption, while newcomers to Lisa's work will be drawn to the power of her storytelling.

Like many of you, I'm no stranger to hardship. As a child, I was forced to migrate with my family from the Dominican Republic to New York City, where we faced seemingly endless adversity. My parents were both professionals in the Dominican Republic. In New York, my father worked as a floor technician and my mom in a sweat shop. My father had an accident and became disabled for life. It was only my mom working and we couldn't make ends meet. Some nights we didn't have dinner; my late brother and myself had to go to work as children. This period of time has shaped my life. I am driven to be successful because I promised myself that my family will never experience this again. Between language barriers and culture shock, I found it difficult to find my footing in such a foreign place and yearned for well-intentioned guidance. I worked hard in school and did very well. I started a career in healthcare as an executive. I yearned to impact people's lives in a positive manner everyday. I continued my education and obtain a Masters in Healthcare Administration and now a Doctorate in Leadership. I just published my first book focusing on Leadership Attributes CRAVE (Communication, Respect, Authenticity, Vulnerability and Empathy). After leading hundreds of teams, I found that these attributes are vital for creating great leaders and successful teams. I now coach, train, consult and speak on leadership and leadership development. I have a coaching program designated towards leaders that I provide to individuals and organizations.

The 2008 recession had kicked my ass; mentally, I was down and scared. A call to a colleague looking for work resulted in "leaving it to the universe," setting off a decision in my head to take my life.  While eating my last meal, the universe did call with a job offer. That moment became more than getting back to work; it became the moment I understood my purpose. There aren't too many living heroes in the construction industry. It became my mission positively affect the mental health of the people I worked with. I started to listen to people, connect with them, support them, and it grew into a mission to eradicate suicide in the construction industry."

Chester L. Richards -- Bio  Aerospace Engineer (Ret.), Inventor, Adventurer, Author, Storyteller, Romantic  The philosophy developed by Chester L. Richards, aerospace engineer, adventurer, and inventor (19 patents), has indeed caused him to view all that comes his way as an adventure. Even a visit to the hospital! (Look for stories about these surprisingly entertaining forays into Deep Space Medical soon in his blog, "Stories.")  That attitude took shape early. In college, a bit after those early escapes from being thoroughly roasted by The Great Potato's molten lead flinging tricks, Chester and friend Judy Burns co-authored a spec script for “Star Trek” on a lark. The story, “The Tholian Web,” became one of the series' most popular episodes. A veteran writer advised the young man, “You should write….write your passions.” “But I have nothing to say,” Chester thought. That was the moment he decided the real message was to fill his life with adventures. And he did — adventures in surfing, learning, and performing music, travel to exotic places for river rafting, and his work as a rocket scientist. Along the way, he's always met fascinating characters. He did write — essays (over 50 have been published so far). At the house in Thousand Oaks he and his late beloved Sarah once shared, he brought himself back from the brink of despair by writing the hair-raising adventures Sarah loved, and that continue to occur, though as the author says, he no longer has much hair.  Visit the website for Chester L. I've learned how my grief has turned to joy in the writing, how my pilot and I sacrificed for the sake of our marriage instead of each other, and lastly, how my gratitude grows and sustains me each day as I go forward." Giere offers a uniquely intimate glimpse into the life of a military wife as she tells the story of her fighter pilot husband, Bernie, a Vietnam Veteran who flew 214 combat missions in the war. With soaring love and explicit honesty, she recounts the terror of the Vietnam years and the lifelong sacrifices that affected her pilot's life and death. Giere, a spunky military wife with a keen knack for storytelling, recounts her fighter pilot's eventful Vietnam years through his handwritten letters and moving personal accounts. The harrowing shoot-down in enemy territory, the joy upon learning he had a son, and the loneliness of separation are among the many subjects covered. All the while, Sarajane worked with a local police detective to uncover evidence that brought one of her neighbors to justice. With a knack for detail, she recounts the uncertain years with Pan Am and her husband Bernie's missions with the NY Air National Guard's world-class 106th Rescue and Recovery Wing for 25 years. The love that brought this intrepid couple together during their college years can be felt through the words on every page. Their bond remained strong for 52 years, helping them grasp the courage they needed upon learning of Bernie's ALS diagnosis later in life. In telling their story, she honors her family, which includes the military community and the nation that she holds dear to her heart.   Author Giere's latest book, My Pilot A Story of War, Love and ALS, wraps the entire interview into a spectacular finish.   My Pilot has won three literary awards: The Independent Press Award, The Military Writers Society of America's Silver Medal Award, and the NYC Big Book Award.
