It is a privilege to welcome singer-songwriter Lisa De Angelis to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Based in Brisbane, Australia, Lisa is a firecracker, quickly cementing herself as one of country music's most unique, exciting voices today. A Southern Gothic base, hints of Justin Townes Earle, Shakey Graves, and Townes Van Zandt, Sierra Ferrell lashings, and Ennio Morricone dusting make up her signature sound: sweeping, cinematic Americana/Blues-Roots music. Lisa's art and path would always be unconventional – and she only picked up a guitar for the first time in 2017.Since graduating from the Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) 's prestigious Academy of Country Music and playing her first Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2019, Lisa De Angelis has toured with and opened shows for some of Australia's best performers, including Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), Steve Kilbey (The Church), Amber Lawrence, Hayley Jensen, Catherine Britt, and Melody Moko. A mentee of Australian country music heavyweights Fanny Lumsden and the Flood's Kevin Bennett, Lisa's debut and sophomore songs have garnered airplay on ABC Country, CMT, and KIX Country Radio. Last month, she released her third single: "My Sister's Blue Suitcase," which Lisa recorded and co-produced with her partner Paul Bain at their Brisbane private studio. The release comes on the heels of a forced six-month hiatus for Lisa after a lengthy illness in 2022 took the hearing in her left ear. The devasting loss barely slowed her roll, though; Lisa was back touring with Amber Lawrence, playing Brisbane's Ekka, and being accepted into AIR's Women in Music Mentorship Program in the second half of 2022. Scrappy, vulnerable, and heartfelt, "part Judy Garland, part Saturday Night Live comedian," Lisa is currently recording and co-producing her debut album, due for release in 2024. In this edition of The Jake's Take's with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Lisa De Angelis spoke about the stories behind her songs: "Tumblin' Back," "Hunger Pains," and "My Sister's Blue Suitcase." She also talked about breaking into both the Australian and international music markets.

Matt from the duo Sons of Atticus catches up with Rae Leigh on a featured podcast chat about the origin of the band and the lessons, development and exciting experiences they have had since releasing their debut song in 2021. Amongst the chaos of a rowdy bar in their hometown, Matt and Dylan crossed paths for the first time and instantly hit it off with a few beers, tacos and their love for country music. It wasn't long before the two started to write, record and perform the kind of music that inspired them both growing up. Since then, Matt and Dylan have become Tasman Guitar ambassadors, have released a Debut EP, have matching Elvis Presley tattoos and have now released their new single into the world. A song for the road when you miss the ones at home. Sore Eyes depicts the balancing act of a traveller feeling the strain of following their dream while being away from the ones they love most. The duo's short and sharp existence has already seen them support the likes of CW Stoneking, Andrew Farris, and Catherine Britt & Lachlan Bryan's new duo, The Pleasures. In April, the boys made their way to Tamworth to perform across venues for the Tamworth Country Music Festival. July saw them release their single ‘Sad Songs' which was paired with a small tour along the south coast of NSW, teaming up with a local brewing company for the run of shows. Recently, Matt and Dylan travelled to Mackay to open up the main stage of NQ's Rock'n Country Festival. Connect with Sons Of Atticus: Facebook Spotify YouTube Instagram

Absolutely THRILLED to announce new guest, Catherine Britt, to The Story! When you look at modern country music you can identify a diverse range of styles that have evolved from the traditional roots form. From pop country to bush ballads, acoustic folk-leaning songs to rousing country rock and the polymorphic blend of Americana. One Australian artist that can lay claim to all of these strains is Catherine Britt, a songwriter who has already packed a respected and highly acclaimed career into her first two decades as a recording artist. From Newcastle to Nashville, Catherine made the move to the home of country music at just 17 years old. It proved to be a brave decision that gave her immeasurable experience as a musician, insight into the machinations of the industry and a contract with the legendary RCA Records. Upon returning to Australia in 2009, Catherine set about recording her debut full length album Dusty Smiles and Heartbreak Cures, the first of five consecutive albums nominated for Album Of The Year at the CMAA (Country Music Awards of Australia). The accolades didn't stop there. Along the way she has received five Golden Guitar Awards, the CMA Global Artist Of The Year award in 2010 and six ARIA Award nominations for Best Country Album. The critical acclaim for her albums and reputation as a performer has seen Catherine tour and perform with some of the biggest names in music, including Sir Elton John, Don McLean, Kasey Chambers, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Chris Isaak and Keith Urban. Not content with just carving out an enviable career as a songwriter, performer and recording artist, Catherine has also been involved in the wider country music community as a radio broadcaster on ABC's Saturday Night Country show, TV host on CMC's Alt Country program and most recently as the editor and owner of Rhythms, Australia's premiere roots music magazine.Life has a way of throwing curveballs, both good and bad, and the few years have seen Catherine fight and win a battle with breast cancer, give birth to two boys, and leave her marriage.“Over the years being an artist has meant different things to me and I've had different goals. My goal from when I was a young girl was to make money from music which I've been able to do and I'm really proud of. At different points of my life I've felt the pull of wanting to be famous and chasing that dream, living in Nashville and then realising that that wasn't what I wanted to do. It's constantly changing but my ultimate goal has been fulfilled and I can never see myself not making music. It's what I've always done and it comes naturally to me and I feel like it's what I'm meant to do, that and being a mum.”You can find Catherine and her projects here:Website : http://www.catherinebritt.comFacebook : https://www.facebook.com/CatherineBrittFansYoutube :https://www.youtube.com/c/CatherineBrittMusicTwitter: @catherinebrittInsta : https://www.instagram.com/catherine_britt/Apple Music : https://music.apple.com/us/artist/catherine-britt/31726801Spotify : https://open.spotify.com/artist/2U7nIOFSqqsKaBdSIdL0iZ...Go see her at Tellus350 Aug 21st, 6pm! What's the difference between Country music in the USA, and the rest of the World? We get the opportunity to dig into to that idea with Australian songwriter and recording artist Lily Grace, who shares with us what its like to be on the other side of the ocean, and what it takes to break into the home of Country music, Nashville, Tennessee. Naturally gifted, Lily Grace began singing at 10 years of age. She dived deeper into music a mere four years ago, when she was gifted her first guitar at the age of 11. Her determination to self-fund her own equipment saw her busking at local markets, and soon after, attracting her to local cafes, restaurants, events and festivals. With several years' stage experience already behind her, Lily Grace delivers her own storytelling originals alongside a vast collection of popular, crowd-pleasing favorites from contemporary, classics, and country. The emotions of love, determination, kindness, gratitude and pure joy pour forth in every one of her performances. Lily Grace is a sought-after talent, having recently opened for Amber Lawrence and Catherine Britt's ‘Love and Lies Tour' across Queensland, joining Tania Kernaghan in concert, touring with James Blundell, being announced in the line-up of emerging artists for the Gympie Muster and performing at the Groundwater Country Music Festival this year.  An exciting collaboration has been in the making for Lily Grace this year, with the legendary country music artist, James Blundell. The two penned a song together earlier this year, co-headlined a concert on the Gold Coast and recently completed the ‘Annie June' tour, where they took their co-written song to stages across Queensland, following on from its successful release in May. The excitement around the track helped it reach the Top 10 on the ‘Australian Country Radio' chart, #17 on the ‘Hottest Australian Country Hits' chart, #9 on ‘Country Radio Charts', #31 on the ‘Countrytown Hot 50 Music Chart'. A live video stream on country radio program, KIX Live, and with the official music video being played in high rotation on Foxtel's & Fetch CMT TV channel reaching #3 in ‘Today's Top 15', also featuring in ‘Official Top 30', ‘Fresh Country', and ‘Aussie Country'  programs.  Off the back of a successful debut duo release, Lily released her debut solo single in August. ‘Sixteen Wishes' is an uplifting and summery track, which rocketed to #3 on the Australian Country iTunes Chart and #27 on the Australian All Genres iTunes Chart.  Within a week of it's release, it was the #1 streamed and downloaded song for Australian radio airplay. ‘Sixteen Wishes' continues to climb the Official Top 30 on CMT television, currently placed at #21. The future certainly looks bright for this young artist shortly venturing to the Tamworth Country Music Festival with a plethora of gigs lined-up and semi-finalist nominations in 9 categories of the Tamworth Songwriting Association awards.  The Business Side of Music ™ © 2022 Lotta Dogs Productions LLC Showrunner and Executive Producer Emeritus: Tom Sabella Producer and Host (the guy who has a face for podcasting): Bob Bender Co-Producer - Audio/Video Editor (the man behind the curtain): Mark Sabella Director of Video and Continuity (the brains of the entire operation): Deborah Halle Marketing and Social Media (all knowing): Sarah Fleshner for 362 Entertainment All Around Problem Solver (and Mental Health Therapist for us): Connie Ribas Recorded inside an old beat up Airstream Trailer located somewhere on what's left of Music Row in Nashville TN (except during pandemics, then it's pretty much been accomplished VIA Zoom or over the phone, with the exception for those fearless enough to come to Bob Bender's dining room… and there have been a few that have survived). Catherine Joined John on the show, - We spoke about the New Album Release "home Truths" and the Current singe "Me" It’s the singer and the song that makes for truly distinctive and enduring artists. Lots of great songs and some mighty fine singing. Catherine Britt has a voice that instantly gets your attention … but unlike others, it is the craftsmanship of this singer/songwriter who unashamedly boasts a worthy story to tell that truly keeps her audience enthralled. Catherine’s new album is entitled Home Truths. They’re the best truths – direct, personal, and from the heart. Just the way Catherine sings. And after 20 years of being a major label artist this album is also a new beginning. This is Catherine’s first release as a completely independent Australia artist. It’s a decision based on Catherine wanting complete control of her career – and having ownership of her own recording masters and copyrights. That’s something that – now as a parent of two young children – she believes is important – and something to pass on to them. This independence was possibly largely due to the loyalty and passion of Catherine’s fans who have been with her on this ongoing journey of music and song. A crowd funding campaign more than exceeded expectations and was a massive statement of the belief Catherine’s fans have in her, her songs and music Home Truths is significant also in that it was produced by Catherine – and performed by her all dancing, all singing, super talented, and beyond versatile Australian band of smoulderingly good players. It was mixed by Ted Howard and mastered in the USA by Jim DeMain. Also very importantly all the songs on Home Truths were written or co-written by Catherine. That’s the way it is with home truths – they need to come directly from the heart of the person doing the telling. She has lived a life in the world of entertainment most will never experience or dream of. The archetypal Aussie girl from the coal works of Newcastle uprooted herself at 17 years old and moved for six years to Nashville TN (USA) where she gained a deep knowledge of country/roots/folk history as well as touring extensively and releasing top 40 Billboard hits. How did this happen you may well ask. Not every 17-year-old moves from Newcastle to Nashville to pursue their musical dreams. Well, the story is that a certain Elton John (yes, THAT Elton John – not to be mistaken for . . .) heard Catherine during one of his Australian tours in the early 2000s. So impressed with Catherine was Elton that he took her albums back to America with him and helped get a deal with RCA Records. Catherine’s recording career commenced in 1999 when, at the age of 14, she released her first EP followed in 2001 by her debut album release. Since then she has released six more studio albums as well as a Best Of album. Awards? You want awards. Over the course of her career Catherine has collected a host of accolades, a legion of fans and a mantel of awards including the country industry’s highest honours, 2009 CMAA Female Artist of the Year Award, 2012 CMAA Single of the Year, 2013 CMAA Female Artist of the Year Award, 2016 Female Artist of the Year, 2017 Vocal Collaboration of The Year for her celebrated single “F U Cancer” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/2bacr90stonow/message

DittyTV's Insights | Artist Interviews

When you look at modern country music you can identify a diverse range of styles that have evolved from the traditional roots form. From pop country to bush ballads, acoustic folk-leaning songs to rousing country rock and the polymorphic blend of Americana. One Australian artist that can lay claim to all of these strains is Catherine Britt, a songwriter who has already packed a respected and highly acclaimed career into her first two decades as a recording artist. Now, in 2018, a new chapter begins with the release of her seventh studio album, Catherine Britt & The Cold Cold Hearts. Recorded March 2019 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Artist Interview 21, Part 2 - CATHERINE BRITT on Ben Sorensen's REAL Country

Part 2 of a super chat with the very fit CATHERINE BRITT about her film clip I WANT YOU BACK.... Check it out! Some more on Catherine: In 2009 Britt declared, "To make an album that I believe truly represents me as a artist, songwriter and individual means the world to me". That mantra has resulted in a self-titled album, the Newcastle born and raised singer songwriter's fourth, comprised of songs that are either written or co-written by Britt that fully resonates her declaration. One listen will prove Catherine was right to follow her instincts. Recorded in Australia 'Catherine Britt' may prove to be her best and most consistent album yet. It is certainly her most personal, diverse and mature. 'Catherine Britt' was forged in the afterglow of winning the 2009 Female Artist of the Year at the CMAA Awards. Winning the award is what she's been working towards since she first began singing at age 10, but by the time the CMAA Award for her confessional What I Did Last Night was in her hand she knew that she wanted to make changes. Having lived in Nashville for six years it was time to come home. Her entire Music City experience has been boiled down into a clear-eyed and typically heartbreaking three-minute song Call You Back Town that tells how her time in Nashville influenced her decision to return home. After relocating, the next step was making her album and the first call made was to her mentor and first time producer Bill Chambers. He in turn suggested bringing in multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer Shane Nicholson to co-produce. Britt now had the team she needed to fuel her desire. Bill Chambers and Shane Nicholson understood Britt, they knew how to encourage and nurture the talent of an authentic singer songwriter. The team wanted to create a heartfelt album born of love, pain, loss and sorrow and although this feat may intimidate many singer songwriters, Britt was more than ready for the challenge. This aspect of Britt's craft is captured perfectly in Lonely, a late night ballad with an impossibly raw vocal that finds the singer as exposed as the character in the song. It is one of many songs on the album that features Britt's guide vocals which were laid down with the basic tracks at Melbourne's Sing Sing Studio late last year with additional recording at Nicholson's home studio. Her core band was John Watson, James Gillard, Jim Moginie, Chambers and Nicholson. Being surrounded by such experienced and sympathetic musicians, the songs quickly sprang to life and grew from the musical sketches Britt had first played to them. Drawing on contemporary influences such as Ryan Adams, Bernard Fanning, Mumford & Sons, Paul Kelly, Patty Griffin and Lucinda Williams Britt utilised all her musical resources to pen a biographic yet opportunistic album. One of the standout tracks on her self-titled album is Sweet Emmylou, which displays her candid yet genuine vulnerability. The poignant beauty of this song encapsulates Britt's exquisite voice and song writing skill. Sweet Emmylou first surfaced in demo form as a hidden track on Britt's last album Little Wildflower. She had tried to cut it for that album but could never capture the desolation of her home recording. The new recording is a perfect encapsulation of sophistication and high lonesome beauty. Lead single Can't Change A Thing became a hook-laden sing-along. Moginie's Wurlitzer piano features, but he also made an even more left field suggestion of adding ukulele to the track. "Every now and again you get lucky and come up with something that's catchy and fun!" Britt explains. The closing track, Where Do You Go, featuring Nicholson on piano and a bleeding vocal from Britt, was the catalyst for the whole album. Written years ago, Britt had played it to her publisher when she first returned home from the US. "To me it was just another song that I'd written, but when my publisher heard it she said I think you should get back to what you're doing here on this song. Do what makes you passionate and happy and this song is a really good place to start." Britt has stripped back to her roots and unearthed the songs that she had crafted with wide-eyed enthusiasm -- Holy River - as well as collating them with her more mature songs -- Since You Slipped Away -- to develop an album that surpasses all previous professional heartache, and starts a new era in her career. www.CatherineBritt.com REAL Country is interactive!
