Claire Pedrick saw a post on LinkedIn about the notes or no notes dilemma. It was written by George Warren and there was lots of conversation. We invited George to continue the conversation here at The Coaching Inn. We talk about the balance between being present with and the need to capture important information. The diverse perspectives on whether to take notes during sessions, the impact of notes on trust and connection, and the importance of reflective practice. Listen to personal experiences and insights, emphasising that there is no right or wrong approach, but rather a need for awareness and intention in the use of notes. This conversation discusses the vulnerability inherent in coaching, the ethical considerations surrounding note-taking, and the importance of being present Takeaways Notes can serve as a tool for reflection, but may also distract from coaching presence. Trust and connection are crucial elements in the coaching relationship, influencing the decision to take notes. The act of writing can sometimes hinder the flow of conversation and engagement. There is value in being imperfect and allowing for forgetfulness in coaching. The relationship can be enhanced by clear contracting around note-taking. Coaches are encouraged to trust their instincts and allow sessions to unfold naturally. The power dynamics of note-taking in professional settings. The role of insurance and ethics It's important to stay in sync with thinkers' journeys. Curiosity and humility are vital in coaching conversations. Over the past couple of weeks there has been a very public and brutal bringing down of the Australia head cricket coach, not only from leaks to the media from within the playing group and the back room staff employed by the national team, but from further stories being aired every day from many news organisations. Exactly what the supposed problems within the closed walls of the Australian cricket team are is difficult to nail down as the information that is being aired seems incomplete and sketchy at best, just that there are disagreements with the coach and his methods. As the team heads towards an attempt to annex the T20 World Cup and then look to retain the Ashes, these ructions all look to be coming at a fairly inconvenient time for Australian cricket. So let's have a discussion, purely analytical, and without any real evidence, as to what may be driving this malcontent in the several groups of the Australian cricket team, and what it all means both in who REALLY has the power in the Australian cricket setup and how that could impact the coming months. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/metalcavern/message

The value of behavioral coaching continues to show up as the top "value-added" service provided by financial advisors. And, while it's no surprise to advisors that have been working with emotional human beings on an emotionally-charged topic like money, studies also show that over 80% of advisors DON'T actively promote this value to clients or prospective clients. In this episode, Brendan helps financial advisors understand what clients think about behavioral coaching, think about whether they should be actively promoting the value, and reveals the ways to communicate it most effectively. At younger ages, athletes are more malleable and absorbent to coaching. It is a crucial time during which the true potential of an athlete can be realized, or possibly repressed. Coaches have an enormous degree of influence on their athletes during this developmental period and the effects of an inexperienced coach at this phase are often overlooked. In this podcast, Dr. Bhrett McCabe and MindSide Mental Skills Consultant, Meighan Julbert, MS discuss coaching during the formative years of tomorrow's elite athletes and the importance of effective coaching in youth sports.
