An interview with Dr. Hadiya Green, Founder and President of Healthy Healing Community. But for me, the coaches who I adore the most and I find are great coaches are the ones who can take someone and take them to the next level. They can adjust their plan and still attain that goal at the end of a person's personal best, in addition to what may contribute to the team. And so I think, an attention to detail, an ability to gauge and meet an athlete where they're at, the ability to understand what an athlete brings to the table both physically and mentally…Dr. Hadiya GreenBeginnings of youth coachingGreat coachesMeeting athletes where they are Being your best athleteBenefits of youth sportsTips for good coachingImpact of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth sports participation https://www.movetolivemore.com/https://www.linkedin.com/company/move-to-live-more@MovetoLiveMore

No matter what, they are going to be proud, one. Two, let's just go be passionate and be the person you are on the court.” 47:02“That's where the resilience comes in. You know what? Punch me six times, and I'm gonna get up seven.” 48:40“You're in a tough situation, but let's find a way that even right now we can find a way for you to grow even when it's really tough.” 1:00:47“When my serve is on, I can beat anybody, and it doesn't matter who it is.” 1:16:06“I feel like a lot of the times, when I'm playing my best, I act a certain way on the court. I want to be the one that's going to help me win the most.” 1:26:38“Everyone's not always going to be on the top of their game all the time. But it's no matter what, one, you believe in that person. And two, you're going to do whatever you can do to try to make that person succeed and still be successful. Because if they win, you win in both parts.” 1:32:14“I think the biggest part of building your brand is being consistent.” 1:36:38“Always go. Always try. Because trying is a beautiful thing and you never know if you don't try.” 1:37:37 Guest Bio - Evan Cory began his professional beach volleyball career in 2020 after graduating as an All-American from Lincoln Memorial University. During his first year in 2020, events were hampered by the COVID-19 outbreak, nevertheless, Evan raised his national ranking from 247 to 97 with limited opportunities in tournaments. In 2021, his true rookie year on the AVP, he won 3 of the 4 AVP Next Gold Events across the country and qualified for 2 of the 3 AVP main draws. He finished with a career-high 9th in the largest tournament in the United States, the Manhattan Beach Open. Evan once again raised his ranking drastically in 2021, as he went from being a fringe top 100 player to being a top 30 player on the AVP Tour. Outside of the statistics, Evan is recognizable by his blue nose and fiery attitude which is quickly making him a favorite amongst fans. During the offseason, Evan has gotten plenty of extra opportunities to interact with fans across the country, as he has participated in many volleyball camps and trips which include the Better at Beach Volleyball Camps, South of the Border Vacations, and Volleyball Vacations. Janet uses her platform to grant wishes for children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and supports other philanthropic activities throughout communities. She recently created INPact Academy which includes the DRIP Program, Youth Coaching and Life Skills Programs, and speaks with many audiences from a variety of stages on the power each of us has to "Be A Drip that Rips and Not A Drop That Plops," showing students and adults that the choices they make casts an intention to an outcome. What excites her most, are the stories she hears and shares in interviews with kids, adults and families throughout the world on the positive INPact they are making through kindness, compassion and connection.Janet lives in Long Island, NY with her husband Jack, and their children, Michael, (20) and Katelyn (18) and has blended a beautiful family as a stepmom of 3 (now adults) and is a proud "GraGra" of 3 grandchildren. Janet grew up with a passion to work with children and received a BS in Elementary Education and a Master's in Business. She truly believes that we are all here on purpose for a purpose and is excited to see all teens unwrap their personal gifts and continue to share them with the world through the new experiences they create and encounter. This interview is extracted from a Facebook live I did with Janet within my private group: Youth Leadership Development.Be careful what you wish for, the power of the thought. Janet describes how what you think about you bring about. Through her summer camps she has seen the transformation of kids developing from being shy to more outgoing and confident. This prompted her idea to use these experiences to create a difference in the world. (I love Janet's energy and enthusiasm, don't you?)In 2014 Janet hosted a week long Pasta swim - yes, swim in 400 lbs of spaghetti!!This was inspired by the loss of Robin Williams and the role of a doctor that he played in the movie Patch Adams where he treated the patient, not the disease. It was from this program that Janet created the "Drip program" which works on the basis that when you a drip falls it creates a ripple effect of energy that can be felt world-wide.Energy creates dopamine in the brain which makes you feel happy and this energy is then released into everything you do. The drip creates this positive energy.Kids have so much power in them and today's youth truly are going to be the ones who will change the world. They want to be seen, heard, and know that they matter. This led to the INPact academy. The energy was growing and becoming contagious. Janet shares some amazing examples of what kids have done to help give back to others by using the drip effect to create massive ripples. One kind act has a compounding effect so make a conscious effort to follow this every day. It is important that we continue to encourage this thought process as kids become teenagers so that it becomes a habit that will be taken into their adulthood. The negative drip, is the drop that plops. When a drop plops into sludge it cannot ripple. There are always going to be those people who drop rather that drip so we need to be intentional about maintaining the drip effect.A drip can be a small act, even something as innocent as a smile which we all can do. Even when wearing masks at the moment a smile shows in your eyes. You can connect with Janet on Facebook or through her website.Contact me if you would like to chat more about how I can help you to maximize your potential and do what you love to do every day.We are here to Develop Tomorrow's Leaders Today and we need your help to make this dream a reality! Travis Daugherty has been a coach for over 20 years and worked with thousands of athletes of all backgrounds, ages, and ability levels - plus the parents that came with them. Throughout that time, he also served as a speaker and development leader for Higher Level Sports, a father-son basketball camp my dad founded and directed throughout the Midwest. He recently authored a book- The LENS. Travis' explanation of the book: "Studying, writing, and developing this game plan have given me a chance to clarify for myself the sports parent I want to be. I hope it will help you clarify who you want to be, too. And even though nobody's perfect in this area, I do hope each of us can see clearly that there's no greater opportunity to prepare our kids for success than the one we have through sports. It's about building teams and achieving peak performance. Team warm-ups A little bit of static stretching is OK, but focus is warming up the muscles through dynamic stretches. Foam rollers are inexpensive and a great tool Teaching Skills Constant blocked practices vs. random variable drills The memory and skill sticks better when allowing the athlete freedom to think during a drill vs. predetermining for them exactly what they should do Fun Games to teach skills HORSE - They play horse-like game, but use letters LAX. First player makes shot, then everyone follows. Mental toughness Mental toughness cannot be turned on/off. Weave it into your practice plan. Every task/drill need to incorporate it. How do you relax? How do use imagery? Have deliberate discussions throughout practice. If 50 to 80% of the game is mental - are you practicing it? How to measure your success when coaching young athletes.
At younger ages, athletes are more malleable and absorbent to coaching. It is a crucial time during which the true potential of an athlete can be realized, or possibly repressed. Coaches have an enormous degree of influence on their athletes during this developmental period and the effects of an inexperienced coach at this phase are often overlooked. In this podcast, Dr. Bhrett McCabe and MindSide Mental Skills Consultant, Meighan Julbert, MS discuss coaching during the formative years of tomorrow's elite athletes and the importance of effective coaching in youth sports.

Standards is a much more palatable word than rules 3 important standards for coaching: 1 - Standards for yourself 2 - Standards for your workplace/coaches 3 - Standards for your athletes Key 2 - Your Methodology/Philosophy What do you believe in? How do you believe in achieving this? Key 3 - Great coaches adapt To the unexpected. They are calm, controlled. Adapt to the generation you are working with: Listen better. Discipline. Communicate in their style: they want short bursts of information (they are the Twitter-generation.) Key 4 - Have great energy It all starts with you. You have to exude passion. People should look forward to seeing you. Key 5 - Interpersonal skills Respected. Likability. We are in the people business who play sports. Key 6 - The fundamentals Great coaches have teams that are great at fundamentals. Daniel Coyle in The Talent Code: 'Mastering the mundane.' Steve has a rule that the coaches don't coach their own kids, they share those duties so that no one has the stress of trying to coach their own child Parents You must set the expectations with the parents A parent meeting is a no-brainer Make sure you've let the parents know your background, especially if you're a volunteer coach Set expectations for playing time - is it all equal? Coach the parents on how to cheer - if they give conflicting messages it is very confusing to the kid. 'Cheer to inspire instead of cheering to instruct' Players Ask the players 'Why are you here?' Discuss their philosophy and the philosophy the team is going to have Create some glue to pull them together: A team name (that is different than your given team name) A team song A team cheer (Boston Celtics' championship team used 'Umbootu') Self-confidence - Unleashing fearless players Coach doesn't talk about winning with his players. He does talk about it with his coaches, but not with the players. A kid should never feel like it was their fault the team lost a game. Teach the kids: 'Always be surprised when you miss a shot (or strike out, or miss a tackle.)' "Fail miserably, but learn from it, then be surprised when it happens again" Don't use conditioning as a punishment. 'The harder you work in practice, the funner the games are.' You want the players to believe that their conditioning has a distinct purpose and challenge them to bring their best to it. Best team builders For basketball - takes 5 players on one side of the gym and 5 on the other, then puts 17 basketballs in the middle, and asks them to pass the balls and get all the balls going. It's great because they fail miserably at first and laugh about the struggle, but usually by the end of the year they start to get it The One that got away Listen to your assistant coaches and give them specific assignments during games so you can all catch different things going on Best borrowed/stolen idea 'If you're teaching 12 year-olds, and you treat them like 16 year-olds, they will play like 14 year-olds.'
