Here we go with another Tuesday. Some rain possible this morning…hopefully if it does rain, it'll dry out by the time I have to mow the lawn this afternoon. We started the show this morning with the latest news on the flooding in the Milwaukee area this past weekend, including Governor Evers declaring a state of emergency. Also in the news this morning, President Donald Trump is deploying the National Guard in the city of Washington to take over for the city's police department, a nationwide recall on a hand soap, Oktoberfest tickets are on-sale now, and a wild video of a passenger boat in Hawaii crashing into shore. In sports, the Brewers just won't stop winning, week 2 of the NFL preseason begins on Friday, the schedule & bracket for the Little League World Series is out, the College football AP Top 25 has Texas at the top, and the UFC is moving to Paramount! Elsewhere in sports, Skip Bayless reviews "Happy Gilmore 2", and the Vikings have a new male cheerleader this year and people on the internet are not happy. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight and we also let you know what's new on New Release Tuesday. Plus, a late-night announcement from T-Swift! No Grant Bilse this week as he's on a fishing trip. But no worries, he'll be back next week to tell us all about it. A very cool story about a couple of lifeguards at a public pool in Ohio who left their posts to save a possible drowning victim at a nearby creek, and another incredible story about a groom who learned sign language before exchanging his vows. After attending several different music festivals over the last few weeks & months, Brian & Jean looked at an interesting list of some of the strangest things found left behind after a music fest. And the latest NFL sensation isn't a player, but rather his mom! In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a wedding DJ that was walking around in a very interesting outfit, a man who "accidentally" shot his wife & then stopped for a beer on his way to bring her to the emergency room, a guy who survived two days with a crossbow bolt stuck in his brain, a scary study about A.I. and what it really thinks about us, and a #FloridaWoman who stopped to help an injured opossum & got killed by another driver.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Fr. Anthony Amato is the Pastor of St. Peter's Parish in Clifton Springs, New York. He was ordained as a priest in June of 2017 by Bishop Salvatore Matano of the Diocese of Rochester, New York. In Today's Show: I've heard Father Ripperger say that it is a sin to pray with Protestants. Is that true? I try to get all of our family's cooking salt blessed, but I realize that sometimes food that has blessed salt in it gets thrown away (or given to our pets as scraps). Is this sinful? Do you know or have you heard of anyone in the 7th mansion from St Teresa of Avila's writings where they have entered spiritual marriage with God? Why are so few seemingly able to reach such heights? Are we too attached to worldly things and lack trust in God? Where can I find the prayers that are said during Mass so I can follow along? I'm a new convert! Should I be concerned when my priest writes or professes overtly political messages? I was reflecting on my teenage years and how I often disobeyed my parents and caused them much worry. I have confessed those sins, but wonder about acts of reparation? My folks are deceased. Is the sin of curiosity a mortal sin if it involves impurity? Like if you went somewhere knowing you'd see someone wearing immodest clothing? I see a lot of different views on the end times and a lot of the Protestant views seem unbiblical. The Catechism's teaching is also somewhat unclear and leaves room for interpretation. What do you think? Even though I've been baptized, I'm concerned there may be spiritual consequences from my grandfather's Freemasonic oaths or affiliations that need to be addressed. Would you recommend that I speak with my parish priest or diocesan office about this? Is there any time that a Catholic would be allowed to attend a Protestant Church? For example, to attend a wedding or baptism of a friend who is not Catholic but has invited someone who is a practicing Catholic? My Protestant friend says that Jesus is the one “Mediator”, as He said that no one comes to the Father except through Me. My friend says that is why we Catholics should not pray to the saints. How should I respond to that argument? Recently we attended a mass in which the priest spent a lot of time outside the sanctuary, such as walking around to tell stories and jokes prior to the opening prayer, moving around the church while delivering the homily, coming down to the congregation to hold hands during the Our Father, and shaking hands with nearly every attendee during the sign of peace. If priests know that such practices are prohibited, why do they continue to do it? In this episode of The Olympia Standard, we dive into the debate over who and what deserves a statue on Washington's capitol campus. As the state grapples with the future of its Marcus Whitman monument, we explore the deeper meanings behind public memorials, the myths they enshrine, and the process (or lack thereof) for removing them. From the racist legacy embedded in the Whitman statue to the forgotten controversy over Governor John Rogers, we argue that it's not only okay to take statues down, it's sometimes the most historically honest thing we can do.

Avian Influenza and what you need to know. Plus snake bites have been on the rise, what you need to do in case of an emergency and records have been broken in the fishing world. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 240 Avian Influenza: 2 Types Of Viruses There are two types of virus: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI): Virus strains are extremely infectious, often fatal to domestic poultry and can spread rapidly from flock to flock. Low Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (LPAI): Virus strains occur naturally in wild migratory waterfowl and shorebirds without causing illness. LPAI can infect domestic poultry with little or no signs of illness. Avian Influenza: The Signs In Birds & Poultry Sudden, unexplained death Decline in water consumption Decreased egg production and depression in layers Purple or dry combs Quieter than normal Frequently laying down Swelling around eyes Procedures For Wild Birds The primary carriers of avian influenza A are waterfowl, gulls, terns and shorebirds. Avoid direct contact with wild birds and observe them only from a distance. Wild birds can be infected without showing symptoms of the infection. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently believes that the public health risk from the current HPAI outbreak is low. They advise avoiding direct contact with sick or dead wild birds. Individuals should also avoid transporting sick or dead birds. Do not handle dead wild birds. Avian influenza surveillance and testing in wild birds is being done by USDA APHIS Wildlife Services and North Dakota Department of Game and Fish. Please report wild sick and dead birds at https://gf.nd.gov/wildlife/diseases/mortality-report. Wild bird avian influenza questions can be directed to 701-204-2161. Reduce the attractiveness for wild birds to stop at your place by cleaning up litter and spilled feed around your domestic poultry housing. When should you move wild bird carcasses? While handling and transporting carcasses is not advised, there may be some cases where it is required to minimize transmission of HPAI and continue normal activities. This would be especially true to limit contact with domestic poultry, or if fields need to be worked in preparation for planting, etc. Handling According to the CDC: “If you must handle wild birds or sick or dead poultry, minimize direct contact by wearing gloves and wash your hands with soap and water after touching birds. If available, wear respiratory protection such as a medical facemask. Change your clothing before contact with healthy domestic poultry and birds after handling wild birds, and discard the gloves and facemask, disinfect footwear, and then wash your hands with soap and water.” Disposal It is critical that carcasses are disposed of properly to reduce the risk for transmission to domestic flocks and other wildlife. Numerous cases of mortality in eagles, hawks and owls have occurred as a result of scavenging on dead bird carcasses. For this reason, moving carcasses to new areas and discarding them on the landscape should be avoided, as this may unintentionally contribute to more cases. Acceptable disposal options for wild bird carcasses include: Move carcasses to the edge of the field. Burial is acceptable for small numbers of birds. Be sure to bury carcasses four feet above the water table with four feet of cover. If possible bury birds in clay soils. Burn carcasses. Be sure to check if you are under a burn ban prior to burning, Dispose at an approved municipal solid waste landfill. Please contact the landfill to determine disposal protocols. Carcasses must be double bagged. Bags must be disinfected before transporting to the landfill. Be sure to use a disinfect registered for use against AI, https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/antimicrobial-products-registered-disinfection-use-against-avian-influenza Following disposal be sure to disinfect the vehicle used to transport the carcasses. Stay calm and still: Minimize movement to slow the spread of venom. Remove jewelry and tight clothing: Swelling may occur, making it difficult to remove these items later. Keep the bite area below heart level: This helps slow the venom's circulation. Wash the wound: Clean the bite with soap and water. Cover the bite: Apply a clean, dry dressing. Take a photograph of the snake (if safe): This can help medical personnel identify the snake species and determine the appropriate treatment. Don'ts for Snake Bites: Don't assume the snake is harmless: Always treat a snakebite as serious. Don't try to catch or kill the snake: This can lead to further bites. Don't use a tourniquet: Tourniquets can cause serious complications, including blood clots and potential amputation. Don't apply ice or cold compresses: This can damage tissue. Don't cut into the bite or try to suck out the venom: These practices are ineffective and can be harmful. Don't take pain relievers like aspirin or ibuprofen: These medications can interfere with the treatment of snake venom. Don't give the person anything to eat or drink: This can interfere with medical treatment. Don't try to identify the snake if it's not safe to do so: Safety comes first. State Record Fish In Connecticut A new state record has been set for the largest freshwater fish ever caught in Connecticut. In May, angler Rafal Wlazlo landed a massive 45-pound, 8-ounce Common Carp at Lake Lillinonah, making it the heaviest freshwater fish recorded in the state. According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Wlazlo's catch now holds the official title for the largest freshwater fish in Connecticut history. Wlazlo, owner of Carp Angler, noted that carp fishing is hugely popular in Europe and is gaining traction as a niche yet growing sport in the United States. Prior to this record-breaking carp, the largest freshwater fish on record in Connecticut included a 29-pound Channel Catfish, Lake Trout, and Northern Pike. Clean Coasts Urges People To Dispose Of Waste Responsibly When Visiting Clare's Beaches by Clare FM
It was the kind of headline that slices through the noise—a whisper that turns into a roar: Rex Heuermann has been charged with a seventh murder. Seven victims. Seven lives erased, but now, after 24 years, one of them—Valerie Mack—was speaking, at least through the cold, calculated evidence, and the weight of history was pressing in on a community that had waited far too long. On a gray December morning in Riverhead, inside the sterile confines of a Long Island courthouse, Rex Heuermann stood before Judge Timothy Mazzei. The room itself seemed to hold its breath as he shuffled forward, his towering frame casting shadows over the courtroom floor. His face was an unmoving mask of indifference, though the tension in his rigid stance betrayed the cracks. The prosecutor's words sliced through the air like razors: Valerie Mack, 24 years old, a Philadelphia woman who disappeared in 2000, her body dismembered and dumped in two separate locations—first in Manorville's desolate woods, then, 11 years later, near the cursed stretch of Gilgo Beach. Two crime scenes, two decades apart, yet connected by the macabre calling card of a man prosecutors now call a “meticulous predator.” Her case had gone cold, one of hundreds boxed away in a police department overwhelmed by unsolved tragedies. Until now. The Breakthrough Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney spoke with grim finality. This wasn't speculation—this was DNA, hard science brought to life by advancements that didn't exist in the year Mack vanished. “Justice delayed is not justice denied,” Tierney intoned, his voice reverberating through the chamber. The evidence that had once been incomplete—a cruel teaser of closure—had been rendered irrefutable. Yet when Judge Mazzei turned to Heuermann and asked for his plea, the response came swift, a hoarse defiance that echoed into the silence: “Your honor, I am not guilty of any of these charges.” Bailiffs glanced nervously at the crowd, but no one made a move. How could they? For the families, the friends, and the community that had lived under the pall of these killings, the wounds weren't just reopened—they were torn asunder. People who had endured years of unrelenting questions—“Why?” “Who?”—were now met with a man, flesh and blood, denying it all. And that denial stung as sharply as the crimes themselves. Valerie Mack: A Forgotten Name Resurfaces Valerie Mack, prosecutors stated, was more than just a headline. She had been someone's daughter, someone's friend. A young woman with dreams of stability and escape, dreams that ended somewhere between the harsh grit of Atlantic City's streets and Long Island's darkened woods. By 2000, Atlantic City had already become a graveyard for the desperate, where survival was not guaranteed, and trusting the wrong person could be fatal. Mack was swallowed by that darkness. Her torso appeared in Manorville, a remote and wooded area in Long Island where few passersby venture. Eleven years later, as investigators combed Gilgo Beach for more answers, the rest of Mack's remains surfaced. The discovery confirmed what everyone already feared—this was not an isolated act. This was a pattern. The Hard Drive and a Chilling Playbook In the basement of Heuermann's Massapequa home, investigators reportedly found documents that prosecutors describe as plans for the murders. A step-by-step blueprint that prosecutors now claim details the planning, the process, and the aftermath of his crimes. Documents included instructions detailing dismemberment and concealment of identifying features, which prosecutors argue demonstrate premeditation. Other notes outlined quiet execution—checking weather conditions and finding isolated “staging areas.” The planning didn't stop at the kill. It outlined a careful escape—“Change tires. Burn gloves. Dispose of pictures. Set an alibi.” Cold reminders to refine and perfect. Prosecutors described the documents as evidence of a methodical process that evolved over time, reflecting deliberate and calculated actions. Prosecutors stated that the documents included references to works by John Douglas, a former FBI profiler, as part of their evidence linking Heuermann's interest to serial killer psychology. This wasn't idle reading, they said. This was practice. The courtroom's chill deepened with every revelation. You could feel the collective dread—a realization that this wasn't the spontaneous savagery of a man who had lost control. This was someone whose control defined the act itself. Valerie Mack's murder, according to prosecutors, fit perfectly into the grim framework. Jessica Taylor and the Expanding Pattern Jessica Taylor, another victim in this tragic case, was a 20-year-old sex worker who disappeared in 2003. Her torso was discovered in Manorville later that year, and subsequent searches uncovered additional remains near Gilgo Beach in 2011, connecting her case to the same haunting pattern. Prosecutors noted that her tattoo had been deliberately mutilated, likely to hinder identification. Her arms, her head—gone. And yet, years later, the expanded search of Gilgo Beach led to her skull and hands, further tying her story to Mack's, and now, to Heuermann. A Community Holds Its Breath Outside the courthouse, the scene was tense. Reporters gathered with cameras rolling, while families of the victims arrived in hopes of hearing answers and progress in the case. There was no answer. Not yet. For now, January 15 looms. Prosecutors will return with more evidence, more connections, more dots strung together. But for the families, answers won't erase the hollow space left behind by those 10 victims. As Suffolk County braces for what comes next, Long Island watches—listening, waiting, and wondering if the shadow of Gilgo Beach might ever truly lift. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? As Suffolk County braces for what comes next, Long Island watches—listening, waiting, and wondering if the shadow of Gilgo Beach might ever truly lift. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Mots-Clés : raisons, immoralité, motif, douilles, cartouches, fatales, Déni, Defend, Dispose, déposition, référence, livre, publié, Etats Unis, dénoncer, méthodes, honorer, demandes, indemnisation, clients, auteur, augmenter, profits, paiement, actions, poursuites judiciaires, coût, Europe, attitude sidérante, drame humain, horrible, fait divers, faiblesse, âgé, vulnérable, alertes, critiques, abus, excès, taux, refus, autorisation préalable, assurés seniors, soins, corrélation, direct, automatisation, processus de décision, établi, intelligence artificielle, travail, police locale, profil.
